Hazardous Weather Outlook and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Debbie!

Mornin'! Happy February! I smiling typing that one. Winter's two-thirds over...we're gonna make it. It's 36° in Wildwood this morning. Not much happening out there aside from the ocean sounding incredibly rough. Thick clouds cover any stars in the morning darkness. They're so thick that I can see the beacon of the lighthouse illuminating the sky and doing it's job in my section of the island 2.5 miles away. No white stuff or rain or ice out there at the moment. Forecasters are saying that today could start with icy/slick patches where you'd least expect it. You've been forewarned. The temperature could reach 40° today as the rains come down. Rains will continue off and on until noon tomorrow and could be heavy at times...especially overnight tonight. Temps will stay high and may even reach...50° tomorrow. This will be a rain event for the Wildwoods. I'm typing that with thankfulness as we approach the anniversary of a week of darkness. With that said...should we mention flooding? Flooding will be our issue on the island so keep watchful of the tides. And, don't drive through flood water as it's the ocean and does major damage to the underside of your vehicle. You've been forewarned again. The New Moon is tomorrow and has just as much impact on the tides as a Full Moon. High tide: 6:36p.m.; Low tide:12:35p.m.; Ocean temp: 39°. I forgot to mention that the winds will be out of the NW at 10-15mph. 48 days until Spring. Oh...The Banana Hammock guy and me are raising a glass today for you Deb. Happy Birthday!

you mention the sound of waves today. sometimes I sense an odor that tells me it's about to snow. Ozone? Humidity? Imagination? My flared nostrils remain mute.

You have a good sense of smell!

Some of the chemicals that can be in snow are:

Nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, nitric acid, dimethyl sulphide and sulphate and methanesulphonate. All of these have distinctive odors and the combination is probably what you smell.

good sense of smell, bad sense of sense, good sense of nonsense. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
