Au Revoir August!

Mornin'!  It's 75° this last morning in August (sniff).  August is one of my favorite months and I'm truly sorry to say goodbye. (September is my favorite month). It's still dark outside this morning with lots of cloud cover and not a star or that nearly full moon can be seen this early morn. There is a light ocean breeze. Looks like it'll be partly cloudy today as temps climb back up into the upper 80s (could even tap 90°) as the humidity creeps back up.  We'll see some sunshine but it'll be a mostly cloudy day.  Breezes will be out of the S-SW at 12-14mph.  One forecast noted a 20% chance of a shower.  Tonight...skies will be clearer as temps drop back into the mid 70s and breezes out of the SW at 10-12mph but remaining humid.  The week up ahead including the holiday weekend looks nice so I'll say it again...if you've picked this 1st week of September up ahead for your summer vacation, seems you lucked out as it's looking like a keeper...keep in mind...September's the "Jewel".

 My Weekly Beach Etiquette tips:
~remember not to leave any trash on the beach or better yet pick up any you see as you leave whether it's yours or not.
~remember to take your cigarette butts (or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air).
~remember to pack your headphones (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music).
~kindly give your neighbors space and careful not to place your umbrella, chair or blanket too close to your beach neighbor.
~give your kids a quick tutorial on "no running on others blankets or towels"
~give your kids another quick tutorial on "not running too close to beach goers to avoid kicking sand on them".
~don't play ball, frisbee or fly kites near other beach goers...beach patrol usually stops you.
~don't feed the seagulls (if possible eat under your umbrella) as these vultures never stop eying up diners and will swoop down and pluck that food right out of your hand creating havoc around your beach area.
~shake towels or beach blankets away from others who are enjoying their beach time.
~follow posted warnings and pay attention to lifeguards.
~(my hubby suggested I include this one)... if you take a call on your cell phone, courtesy would be taking the call away from others like on the back beach (on the dune side) rather than share the call with all those around you.

A "10"

Mornin'!  Last evening, a friend of my daughter's who's been here as our guest this weekend said I should just sign on to my blog this morning and write "PERFECT WEATHER". Period.
Here's more to it...it's 72° and mostly sunny (there will be some light clouds in today's forecast).  No breezes yet.  It feels beautiful outside this morning.  Today will be much like yesterday as the temps rise to the low-mid 80s with an increase in humidity and breezes eventually out of the S-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...some more clouds filter in with temps back down into the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the SW at 17-24mph.  Tomorrow looks breezier and cloudier but with warmer temps.

Lovely August is coming to an end

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood.  It's a lovely summer morning with Ms Sun up and shining brightly this last weekend in August.  No breezes to mention.  The island birds are chirping and cackling and squawking happily in my neighborhood.  It'll be yet another blessing in the weather department.  Sunny with breezes out of S-SW at 7-8mph and temps in the low 80s.  By this afternoon the breezes will have ramped up a bit at 15-20mph.  Tonight...some clouds roll in as the temperature drops back into the upper 60s and breezes wift (I mean waft) over us from the South at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow...almost the exact same forecast but just a touch warmer.

Continuing the Perfection

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood.  The mornings seem to becoming a little cooler.  It definitely has the feel of Fall in the air today.  Once again I could just repeat what I've been posting all week for the weather.  And, it'll be the same for the weekend or at least until Wednesday.  It's currently clear, quiet (no breezes or tree leaves rustling) although I can hear the seagulls in the far off distance laughing.  Ms Sun's due up any moment as she'll be shining down for yet another sunny beauty.  It'll be sunny and warm with temps in the low-mid 80s and breezes out of the N-NW at 6-8mph.  Tonight... back into the low-mid 60s with clear, starlit skies and breezes light and variable mostly out of the NW.  Full Moon's tomorrow and we'll get to see it in all its glory tonight and all weekend!

The Lovely Weather Continues

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood.  It's clear and still a bit dark outside. Daybreak lies in wait.  Ms Sun's peeking at the horizon and will be shining in no time.  It's a beautiful morning with some autumn coolness and lack of humidity in the air.  There's a very light breeze.  I could cut and paste yesterday's forecast into today's as this beautiful seashore weather hasn't let anyone down this week.  It'll continue through next week I'm happy to report.  Today will be lovely with sun pouring down, temps in the low-mid 80s and breezes out of the N-NW at 8-10mph. Tonight...back into the mid-upper 60s and breezes out of the W-NW 10-13mph. A couple seashore tips...pack the insect repellent for the biting green head flies as the West winds do bring them to the beaches and keep aware of the tides (full moon is in 2 days) as you'll see streets with water in them and it's the salty sea water...corrosive to vehicles so don't drive through it!

Lovely Humpday - National Dog Day!

My little Freddy at Ottens Harbor
Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood.  It's dry, clear, quiet, still and a lovely morn.  The seagulls are once again yapping and cackling and expressing their happiness.  Ms Sun's about to rise and shine as the breezes are nothing to note.  We're in the midst of some nice stretch of weather.  Like I said "lucky you if this was your week's vacation in Wildwood."  It'll be lovely for at least the next 6 days.  Temps will tap the low-mid 80s today as the sun pours down.  Winds will start out later this morning from the North at 10-12mph and shift by later this afternoon from the West at 8-10mph and then tonight will be out of the N-NW at 9-12mph.  Tonight remains clear as temps back down into the mid 60s again.  Looks like this forecast will repeat each day right into the weekend.

Morning Clouds

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood. The air temp is just about the same as the ocean temperature.  We just had some nice gentle downpours and for that I'm grateful that I don't have to include watering the gardens this morning as part of the "get ready for work" checklist.  The island birds seem pleased as well as the neighborhood seagulls laughs are everywhere filling the morning stillness. It's overcast and drizzling very lightly with no breezes at the moment.  Ms Sun's waiting in the wings to rise and shine as it'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day with temps in the mid 80s.  There's a 20% chance of precipitation today as we could see anything from a shower to a thunderstorm.  Breezes will be out of the W-SW at 10-12mph. Speaking of breezes, they will rid our island of the heavy humidity later this morning (early afternoon) as a cooler feel is on the way. Tonight...clear and temps down into the low 70s. Breezes will be out of the NW at 5-10mph.  Looks like the remainder of the week right into the weekend will be 5-star. Lucky you if this week was your Wildwood vacation week!

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood.  It's quiet and still with Ms Sun heading on up.  It's going to be a nice one with plenty of sunshine and loveliness as temps climb up into the low-mid 80s.  There is a 20% chance of a passing thunderstorm later today (keep your eyes on the sky). Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...some cloud cover and more of a chance (40%) of thunderstorms including going into the overnight.  Temps will drop back into the upper 60s tonight as breezes are out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.

Plentiful Sunshine Saturday

Beach Scene from February 2015 (I Couldn't Resist)
Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood.  There's a NW breeze wifting (I mean wafting) over the island at 5-10mph and it feels amazing.  All the humidity is out of the air and I hate to say it but there's an autumn feel to the morning...very refreshing.  The weekend's looking amazing with that hazy, hot and humid stuff gone.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with breezes out of the N-NE at 16-20mph.  By this afternoon they'll shift from the North at 9-10mph and by tonight Easterly at 3-5mph.  Tonight the temps go down into the upper 60s (great sleeping weather).  Tomorrow just about the same as today with a little more cloud cover than today.

Mostly Gray Friday

Mornin'!  It's 73° in wet Wildwood.  The "wet" is from last night and the overnight thunderstorms and flooding.  The ol' Flooding Sirens were blaring as all the properties were water front as streets flooded while the electric power kept going off and on.  Unsettling but sleep deprivation is more what those storms achieved.  For now...the sky is overcast and trying to clear out but still mostly cloudy as we adjust to the tropical soggy conditions.  It looks like it'll be "eh" today as the clouds are doing everything they can to stay checked in with a 20% chance of more rain. Ms Sun's in the mix too as she'll probably be peeking out by this afternoon.  Breezes will be out of the NW today at 9-13mph.  Tonight...some clouds still be checked in with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the North.  The good news is the weekend's now looking more pleasant... mostly sunny and warm with less humidity as these storms have cleared the way!

Weather Variations Today!

Mornin'!  It's 76° in humid and muggy Wildwood.  Whew is it thick out there!  Just like yesterday and the day before, we're starting out of the gate with hazy, warm conditions as Ms Sun's crossing the horizon just as I type.  There are some incredible cumulus clouds in every direction and a very light breeze coming right down my street off the ocean and looks and feels so nice.  I've checked four different weather reports this morning and everyone has their own variation of today's weather.  So, I'll try and wrap it up with one forecast.  It'll be hazy, warm, humid and sunny today (at least until midday) as clouds enter into
the mix.  A 20% chance of a stray thunderstorm is possible.  Temps could get up near 90° again but will probably hover around the upper 80s.  Breezes will continue to be off the ocean (SE) at 10-20mph. Tonight...mainly cloudy with even greater chances (80-100%) of a thunderstorm including some flash flooding passing through due to these storms being slow moving. Temps will drop back into the low 70s and breezes remaining out of the SE at 10-15mph.  My motto today...keep your eye on the sky (or doppler...5th one on my Personal Favs List)!

Another Warm One

One of my favorite Gift Shops - Sunset Beach Cape May
Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood.  It's overcast and muggy. No breezes. It looks like we could begin to get some rain with some of these dark clouds but the horizon looks clear as Ms Sun heads in our direction. It'll be another hazy, hot and humid day down the shore with temps getting up into the mid-upper 80s and even tapping 90° along with a chance (20%) of a stray pop-up thunderstorm.  Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...temps back into the low-mid 70s with those S-SE breezes sticking around (5-10mph).  Looks like we'll have one more (including tomorrow) day of this warm, humid haze.  That is until the rains come in sometime later tomorrow and Friday with a slow moving cold front. There's a potential for thunderstorms with heavy rain possibly leading to flash flooding. The weekend...eh.  It's still looking like it could be some rain up ahead but with sun peeking through it all.  You know...not a complete washout.

Hazy, Hot and Humid

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood.  It's warm, hazy and humid.  Ms Sun's fighting that ol' haze as she rises.  It'll be another hot one today as temps tap the 90° mark while Ms Sun pours down.  In other words...a perfect beach day!  Breezes will be out of the South at 9-11mph.  Later they'll pick up shifting just a bit from the S-SE at 18-24mph.  Tonight...temps drop back into the low 70s as a 20% chance of a pop-up thunderstorm has been posted.  Tomorrow looks like a bit of clouds will be checked in the hump day mix. Thursday and Friday look like we'll be in for some rain (60% chance).  The weekend's got some varied forecasts from rain Saturday and Sunday to clouds Saturday and sun Sunday to cloudy days and no rain both Saturday and Sunday.  I'm totally confused and like everyone else will know more as the weekend inches closer.

A Hot One

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood.  Ms Sun's fighting through the summer haze this morning.  The sky's beginning to lighten with colors of corals and pinks.  There's going to be plentiful sunshine again today as the island heats up.  We'll probably tap 90° with no problem.  Winds (none at the moment) will begin out of the S-SW at 10-15mph and shift by later this after from the S-SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...temps back into the mid-upper 70s with breezes out of the South at 15-20mph.  First signs of any rain (showers and/or thunderstorms) is Wednesday night.  Today though...beach day perfection!  Don't forget footwear...that beach sand will be hot!

Sunny Summer Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood.  It's early and the stars are still out.  They won't be for long though as Ms Sun's due up in less than an hour.  It's dark and quiet with no breezes but that'll change. Here's today's scoop...another sunny, summer day with temps in the upper 80s.  Breezes are all over the place beginning from the W-SW at 5-7mph then shifting from the South by midday 7-9mph and again by late afternoon/early evening from the SE at 16-20mph (you know those late "off the ocean" cool breezes).  Tonight...temps down into the low-70s and breezes from the S-SW at 5-10mph.  The tide is on our side today...

Splendid Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood.  Sun's up and shining brightly.  There are no breezes this morning.  It's quiet with the houses all around me packed to capacity.  Everyone seemed to know what to do..."head down the shore" this weekend.  This perfect seashore weather that we've been having throughout this week is going to continue throughout the weekend and right into next week.  Keep the garden hose close at hand if you have any thirsty plants and shrubs outside as rain isn't due up until maybe Thursday.  It'll be sunny today with temps in the low to mid 80s today. Breezes will be out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  Tonight...temps back down into the upper 60s/lower 70s with breezes still out of the S-SW at 15-18mph.  Tomorrow...same as today.  Monday...same as tomorrow etc. etc.

Perfect Summer Day Up Ahead

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood.  The sky is clear and perfect for the meteor showers.  I've already got a couple early morning reports that viewing is on point for catching the show of the year.  Only thing is...best viewing time is 2a.m. to 5a.m. And, stay away from conflicting lights to see the brilliance of the dark, night sky for successful views.
So, we've got another keeper today.  Plentiful sunshine with temps in the low-mid 80s and breezes out of the NW at 5-10mph (pack the insect repellant just in case as the West winds bring the biting greenheads).  Tonight...clear sky with temps back down into the mid 60s and breezes light and variable...North at 5-7mph.  By the way...this weather will continue through to at least next Wednesday.  Good call if this week was your vacation pick...good call! Start of a Beautiful Stretch of Weather

Mornin'!  It's 71° in tropical Wildwood.  We had a nice watering yesterday with some intense showers and thunderstorms right into the early evening.  We're out of the line of fire at least up until this time next week.  It feels a bit humid with heavy air like we're in a rain forest.  It'll surely heat up as we're looking at a sunny and warm day with some awesome beach weather up ahead.  Today will be sunny with temps in the low-mid 80s and breezes out of the NW at 5-10mph.  Tonight...clear (perfect for viewing this week's meteor showers...check yesterday's blog) with temps in the upper 60s and breezes out of the NW at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday...much of the same!

Moderate to Heavy Rains Expected Today along with the opener of the Perseid Meteor Showers

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood.  The rain is pouring down at a nice clip.  My street has quite a bit of water at the curb indicating it's been raining during the overnight while we slept.  It's supposed to be raining steady throughout much of the day (100% chance) with some thunderstorms in the mix as some may be severe.  Strap in as we're due to have some intense, heavy, wet weather today.  There's a brief break late morning before the next round comes over the island and we may see peeks of sun but don't be fooled. And, the new moon is Friday and I'm not sure how much of an effect it will have on the tides and flooding with all the rain expected.  Just be careful out there and take heed on any water you intend to drive through...never a good idea.  Temps will tap 80° with winds out of the S-SW at 15-25mph.  Tonight...scattered thunderstorms during the evening (60% chance) and again..some may be severe. Winds will be out of the West at 5-10mph.  After tonight...we're in the clear with sunny beach weather up ahead at least until Monday!  It should be worth one solid crapola day unless this was your one planned day trip down the Shore.
FOOTNOTE: It's 1:30p.m. and the sun's been trying to come out for about an hour.  It looks like things are clearing up. The local doppler has no rain in sight for now. There's a system over the Harrisburg area which may filter over us later this early evening but the local weather forecasts are saying probably clear later tonight.  So, with that said... get ready for the annual mid-August tradition known as The Perseids, one of the best meteor showers the Earth enjoys each year.  The show peaks this week, as the nights from August 11th through the 14th will offer the best chances to see the bright meteors streaking across the South Jersey sky.
Last year's show was not as brilliant as usual, as The Perseids coincided with the "super" full moon. The especially bright light of the full moon created plenty of natural light pollution, making the normally easy to spot Perseid meteors more difficult to see. This year, we'll have a new moon just as the peak of the Perseids pass.  So as long as you're away from any man-made light pollution(cities and street lights), conditions should be perfect, presuming skies are clear. And they will be, eventually.  So in South Jersey, the best Perseids viewing will be later tonight, as well as Wednesday and Thursday night. Up to 100 meteors per hour can be seen during these meteor showers and 2-5a.m. being the best viewing hours.

Sun & Clouds Monday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood.  It's partly cloudy with some smokey, gray clouds painting the morning sky.  Ms Sun has her work cut out for her but there's no doubt that the sunrise will be another lovely start to the day.  It'll be partly cloudy today with peeks of sun as temps hover around the 80° mark.  Breezes will be out of the SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...more clouds checking in as showers and/or thunderstorms develop late (80% chance).  Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 10-15mph. We're likely to wake to rain tomorrow morning as Tuesday looks like a rainy one; not Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday though!!!

Lovely Sunday for the North Wildwood Flea Market

Mornin'!  It's 65° this lovely morning.  There's a very light breeze as Ms Sun's rising in the cloudless sky while I blog.  The birds are happy. There's lots of chirping and squawking and laughing all around the neighborhood.  It's looking like a beauty today.  Temps will get into the low-80s with breezes from the North at 9-13mph.  Tonight...more loveliness with clouds rolling in.  Temps tonight will be in the mid-upper 60s with breezes off the ocean (East) at 5-10mph.  We could be getting some rain later tomorrow into tomorrow evening.  But, today...a beauty. See you at the giant Flea Market on JFK boulevard!

National Lighthouse Day!

Hereford Lighthouse
Cape May Lighthouse
Mornin'!  It's 72° and raining in Wildwood.  It's the start of a cloudy and mostly rainy day so says all the forecasts I've checked.  We're going to have showers off and on into this evening.  The local forecasts says not as wet as first predicted and we may even see a peek or two of sun. Temps will be in the mid 70s with 70% chance of showers throughout the day.  Winds will be out of the E-NE at 19-22mph.  Tonight...cloud cover begins to drift off to sea as the clearing out begins and temps drop into the upper 60s with winds staying NE at 10-20mph.  The weekend's still 50-50 with Sunday being the better of the 2 days as Saturday's got the stiff ocean breezes as this weather system continues to work its way off shore. Sunday will be calmer and sunnier.  The Hereford Lighthouse is free admission today!

Hereford Lighthouse, North Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood. It's a beauty as Ms Sun's on the rise and the sprinkling of clouds are here and there creating a beautiful morning summer sky. Tonight...showers in the evening becoming a steady rain overnight (90% chance).  Temps down into the upper 60s with those E-NE seabreezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...eh...looking like a possible rainy day (80% chance) and temps barely tapping 80°.  The weekend's looking 50-50 with Sunday being the nicer of the 2 days (Saturday's looking cloudy and windy).

Warm Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood. We had some nice thunderstorms last night and everything's nicely watered.  The thunder clouds put on a terrific lightning show over the ocean but not too much in the line of boomers.  We did get a nice watering as we haven't had rain in quite awhile and the garden's looking perky again.  It's cloudy and still and with thick marshy aromas at the moment with Ms Sun waiting in the wings to pass the horizon and begin her shining down show.  The sun will eventually get through this morning haze and cloud cover and shine down all day today.  It's going to be warm... temps will get up in the upper 80s-low 90s.  No breezes now but the winds will wift (I mean waft) in later from the W-NW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...clear to partly cloudy with temps in the low 70s.  Winds will be out of the W-NW at 10-12 with some gusting of up to 20mph.  Tomorrow's looking less cloudy and less chances of rain than was forecasted (20% chance) and Friday now has "scattered" thunderstorms (50% chance) in the forecast.  The weekend's looking sunny but very windy.  It all remains to be seen.  And, you know what I say all the time..."Keep your eye on the sky or doppler" for any pop-up storms and "Pack the insect repellant" for the NW winds that bring those biting greenhead flies.

Tuesday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood.  It's quiet and still with hardly a breeze.  Ms Sun's on her way and will be pushing aside the hazy clouds.  We're going to have a mix of clouds and sun today as temps get up into the low 90s.  It's gonna be a hot one as the humidity creeps back in.  There's the possibility of scattered showers and/or thunderstorms due in by the afternoon (40% chance).  Winds will be out of the SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...scattered showers and thunderstorms due in before midnight (40% chance) as the SW breezes will still be checked in as temps head back into the low 70s.  Tomorrow...a nice one until showers check back in on Thursday and Friday.
High tide:11:54a.m.
Low tide:5:49p.m.
Ocean temp:75°
Sunset:8:09p.m.
Rip Current:High Risk! (this just changed from Moderate Risk)
A high risk of rip currents, due to the brisk southwest winds kicking promoting a rough surf, means rip currents are more likely to occur.  Dangerous and/or life threatening conditions exist for anyone entering the surf! Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from the beaches, occurring most often at low spots, breaks in the sandbar, or near jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach patrol! And only swim on guarded beaches!

Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood.  It's comfortable outside as the sky is clear and Ms Sun's just passing over the horizon.  It'll be sunny and warm with temps tapping 90° with a little of the ol' humidity creeping back in.  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tonight the clouds roll in with a stray shower and/or thunderstorm possible (20% chance).  Temps should drop back into the mid-70s with S-SW winds at 10-20mph staying checked in.  Tomorrow...more or less a repeat of today with a sprinkling of clouds as well as the possibility of rain in the mix tomorrow night.
High tide:10:59a.m.
Low tide:4:56p.m.
Ocean temp:75°

Rip Currents: Moderate (A moderate risk of rip currents implies that individuals planning to enter the surf should check with local beach patrols first. Be sure to swim within sight of a life guard, and never swim alone or at night.)
My Monday Morning Beach Etiquette tips:

A perfectly lovely Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 74° according to my back porch thermometer.  The Philly meteorologist just said it was 77° in Wildwood.  Sorry...wrong again and the reason why I do this blog.  It's sunny and pleasant with that humidity still checked out.  Thank goodness.  The sky is blue without any clouds.  And, it'll all be staying lovely today.  Temps...getting up into the mid-upper 80s (possibly tapping 90°+ like yesterday) with breezes out of the S-SE at 5-10mph.  Tonight...clear and mild and temps back into the mid 70s with breezes out of the South at 13-18mph.  Tomorrow...eh...looking like a possibility of showers but a couple forecasts said it's not going to happen until Tuesday.  I'll know more by tonight/tomorrow morning.  For now though...pleasant day down the shore and a perfect beach day!

Welcome August!

Mornin'!  It's 73° in sunny Wildwood this 1st day of August.  The sun's up and shining brightly.  The breezes are nothing to write home about as everything's still and quiet.  The seagulls are laughing merrily in the distance welcoming the last month of summer. Life is good down the shore.  It'll be a hot one today with temps tapping 90° but remember it's a dry heat this weekend.  No humidity is expected to check in. We're good to go until Wednesday when rain is due.  It'll be a nice weekend albeit hot.  Today...clear and sunny and hot with breezes off the land W-SW at 10-12mph (in other words...green head flies so pack the insect repellant).  Tonight...clear and down to the mid-70s with those Westerly breezes hanging out.  Tomorrow, much of the same...sunny and hot.
Terrific full "blue" moon last night.  Last blue moon until 2018. You'll see more of that tonight as it'll be rising over the ocean around the same time.
