Warnings and Advisories Are In Effect As September Bids Good-bye

Mornin'!  It's 58° in Wildwood NJ.  It's chilly, gray and breezy with winds out of the E-NE at 20-25mph.  I've got a lot to unpack for this morning's blog.  First thing's first... adios September!  It was an awesome "jewel" of a month for the Jersey shore as the weather this month has been perfect.  Not so much for Florida as all my thoughts and prayers are constantly with that battered and horrifically abused beautiful state.  I can only imagine what that must be like to have everything you own obliterated with nowhere to turn and have a perfect beautiful weather day. That's what's happening in Sarasota and Ft. Myers at the moment.
Not so much for us as we're about to feel the very outer edges of Ian.  Expect these morning winds to gather intensity out of the E-NE at 25-35mph +gusting.  Rain will be developing by late morning/early afternoon (70% chance).  Temps will just about tap 67°.  Tonight... 100% chance of rain with temps in the low-60s and E-NE winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  1-2 inches of rain are expected.  There's a coastal flood advisory posted as local heavy rainfall most likely will be happening.  Tomorrow... more rain (100% chance) and wind.  Temps will be just tapping 70° with NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Again... heavy rainfall is possible.  Sunday... rain likely (70% chance) with temps in the upper 60s with E-NE winds at 25-35mph +gusting. Monday... 50% chance of rain and Tuesday... 40% chance.  There's a small craft advisory in effect along with gale warning in effect along our coast today into tomorrow and Sunday.  8-10 foot seas are posted with advisory.  Rip Currents: High risk which means life-threatening conditions in the ocean.  Don't think about going into to the ocean with such dangerous conditions.  I just saw that The Race Of The Gentlemen is still a go this weekend as it's rain or shine.  However, the Italian Festival... has been canceled.  Until next year... see you in September!  I can only hope October treats us as kindly.

FOOTNOTE at 3pm: I just heard that all the weekend events beginning tomorrow: Race of the Gentleman, The Italian Festival, The WildwoodCrest City Yard Sale and the Fishing tournament have all been canceled due to the stormy weather conditions.  Nothing has been rescheduled.  It's currently raining lightly with extremely windy conditions which are supposed to worsen.  We're strapped in and hunkered!

Blustery Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 80% with a dewpoint of 50°.  We've got winds this morning making it feel like a very chilly morning.  Winds are out of the North at 15-20 with gusting of 25+mph.  It'll be cool today with a  mostly sunny morning as clouds begin filtering in making it a partly sunny afternoon.  Temps will in the upper 60s with NE winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clouds checking in temps in the mid-upper 50s and NE winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... gray and windy as we'll begin feeling the effects of Ian with a Nor'easter (thank God not a hurricane) on our doorstep.   Showers may be developing by the afternoon with temps in the mid-upper 60s and E-NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Chance of rain is 40%.  As for the weekend... Saturday: 90% chance of rain, windy (East winds at 25-30mph+gusting) with 1-2" of rainfall possible.  We're talking the good possibility of flooding on the island along with beach erosion.  Sunday... 70% chance of rain and also winds, high near 70°.  Monday... 50% chance of rain and still very windy. Even with all the destruction and damage from Ian, I'm happy to report that all my peeps in Florida are alive and well albeit some had minor flooding with some property damage (tree in a pool) but all are alive and well.  Thanks be to god.

A Lovely Autumn Hump Day Here

Mornin'!  It's 56° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 74% with a dewpoint of 49°.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly with NW breezes at 8-11mph.  Looking like another lovely autumn day down the shore with mostly sunny skies, temps around 70° and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy skies becoming partly cloudy after midnight.  Temps will drop to where they are now... mid-50s and North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sun and some clouds, temps near 70° and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Beginning Friday, we'll begin to get rain as it'll be raining for the entire weekend as well as Monday and Tuesday.  All those rainy days ahead will be the last remnants of Hurricane Ian but will be more of a very nasty Nor'easter for us. Expect winds and rains with coastal flooding and beach erosion as this storm seems to want to move slowly.  As for those in the trajectory of this monster now along the west coast of Florida in the Naples/Sarasota area, (a Category 4 hurricane possibly becoming a Cat 5), all eyes are watching and praying as this historic storm is about to pummel and destroy everything in its path.

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got low humidity with partly cloudy / partly sunny skies and breezes out of the W-NW at 9-11mph.  Ms Sun's trying her best to shine over the island this morning but this cloud cover over the sunrise seems to be the victor at the moment.  It'll be a partly cloudy start to the day with clouds clearing out as the day progresses and the sky eventually becomes sunny.  Temps will be in the mid-70s with W-NW winds at 5-10mph. Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 50s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps around 70° and NW winds at 10-15mph.

I just wanted to say something about what happened in Wildwood over the past weekend.  As I lay in bed last night and tried to fall asleep, I couldn't help but note the silence outside.  The deafening quiet brought me to tears as I couldn't help but think of those grieving families that tragically lost their loved ones here this weekend due to a needless assault by a reckless driver crashing into the crowded street in a "not" permitted rally.  Wildwood's been my happy place my entire life.  I decided to move here from Philadelphia nearly 20 years ago.  Never in those years as well as vacationing here my entire life have I been afraid here.  Until this past weekend.  Beginning on Friday, an unwelcomed car rally (h2oi cars) began their malicious takeover of Wildwood.  All the other (annual and very crowded) Festivals and Shows planned as scheduled were making for a very soon to be extremely crowded weekend here. Aside from that, the noise alone from his threatening invasion of vehicles made what was endlessly deafening but so disruptive with not a minute of peace from the deliberate sounds of rapid gunfire and revved up engines to sirens blaring making our streets like war zones hours on end.  Hundreds of cars drove recklessly around our streets throughout the days and into the morning hours with no respect or regard to anyone else living here or visiting this resort.  In fact, I heard that like me, many were afraid to leave their homes or businesses. This senseless act of murder and injuries (I also heard someone was stabbed) proved how overwhelmed our police department was as backup from miles away had to be deployed.  Disturbing the peace was putting it mildly.  Many of us have been left saddened and somewhat broken.  I've never laid in bed before listening to the aftermath of stillness and silence of my neighborhood as I cried myself to sleep. Wildwood was in the thick of this horrific, scary crisis that somehow has alter our lives.  I pray for the families of those young victims.  I pray it never happens again here in my quiet, safe place.

New Moon Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  It's lovely start to the day with sunshine and sea breezes out of the SW at 15-20mph.  We could get some rain today as there's 30% chance of rain and/or thunderstorms.  We'll see a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 77° and S-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tonight... 80% chance of rain and by midnight, the sky begins to clear.  Temps will drop into the low-60s with W-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... except for a few afternoon clouds, it'll be sunny with temps in the mid-70s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  The New Moon is today and it has the same effect on the high tides as the full moon.  If it does rain during the high tide tonight, we could see tidal flooding on the island.  Be aware of where you drive or park especially in those low-lying areas on the island.  It's also "High" risk of rip currents which basically means it's too intense for even the best of swimmers.  If you see someone in danger, call 911 as there are no lifeguards posted on the beaches this time of year.

Happy Birthday To My Daughter!!!

Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood NJ.  What a difference a day makes!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqw1wFUsNZo (sung by Diana Ross).
It's sunny with very low humidity and winds out of the N-NW at 20-25mph +gusting.  It feels like 50°.  I'm wondering what all  my tropical houseplants are thinking as they blow around thanks to the gusty winds while they're out on the porches and decks. I guess it's time to bring them all back into the house.  I'd say it's on the cool side this morning. Thanks to these strong, relentless winds, we're under a "Gale Warning" until 2pm this afternoon and a "High Rip Current Warning" until tomorrow.  So, what this means is the north winds will be creating havoc on the seas which could be up to 10'.  Winds that strong impacts vessels in the seas which could capsize or damage boats.  Mariners should stay in port, seek safe harbor, or alter course due to severe conditions.  As for the Rip Currents: our beaches are unguarded and the surf could be anywhere from 8-10' and extremely rough with that under current pulling you relentlessly away from shore. Stay out of the water!  Now, with all that said... it's going to be a busy, crowded, festival-full weekend.  We've got a festival or event in every town on this island.  North Wildwood's Irish Festival begins today, Wildwood's got the Classic Car Show happening at the same time along with Wildwood Crest having their annual Seafarers Festival.  There will be a lot of folk back here on the island most of which haven't a clue about Gale Warnings and dangerous Rip Currents.  If in danger, call 911.  This is really serious.  Wildwood had 4 drownings in an 8-day span in the very beginning of the Season due to unguarded beaches and unknowing folk.
So, with all that said, it'll be a lovely Autumn day with plenty of sunshine, temps in the mid-60s and N-NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting (aka: bad hair day).  Tonight... a few passing clouds, low near 50° and N-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... some clouds in the mix in the morning, giving way to sunny skies in the afternoon with high near 70° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... mostly cloudy, high near 77° with S-SW winds at 15-20mph.  And, last  but not least... A very Happy Birthday to my youngest; my daughter Alison.  This blogs for you my Sweet!  Love you!

Autumn's Here And The Cool Breezes Are Coming!

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 90% with a dew-point of 69°.  Breezes are out of the S-SW at 15-20mph.  Ms Sun's up as well as cloud cover.  It's a beautiful orange sunrise with Ms Sun doing all she can to shine in the partly gray sky.  The "Autumnal Equinox" is a 9PM tonight making it officially Fall beginning today.  Today's weather will be partly sunny this morning giving way to partly to mostly cloudy conditions with rain on today's forecast.  There's an 80% chance of rain beginning late this morning with temps tapping 80° and SW winds shifting to the NW at 15-25mph.  By this afternoon, there's a 60% chance of rain.  Tonight...  the rain clouds should be checked out but bringing low temps... low 50s and N-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Time to open the windows and feel those refreshing Autumn breezes!  Tomorrow... lots of sunshine but windy with a high of 66° and N-NW winds at 20-30mph.  The weekend's looking okay with Festival weather with Saturday being partly sunny and breezy with a high of 70° and Sunday looking partly cloudy with a high of 75° and still on the breezy side.   It's offically "Goodbye Summer" and "Welcome Autumn"!

Last Day Of Summer

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 86% with a dewpoint of 58°.  Breezes are barely there out of the N-NE at 3-5mph.  Ms Sun's coming as she's on the rise as I type.  It's a lovely morning out there and will be a beauty today.  It's the last day of Summer.  And, it'll feel like Summer with some Autumn sprinkled in.  Expect yet another sparkling jewel, sunny day with temps in the upper 70s and just about tapping 80°.  Winds will be out of the NE shifting to the South by early afternoon at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear, temps around 70° and S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... the first day of  Fall looks to be possibly wet with 75% chance of scattered rain showers and even some thunderstorms thrown in the Autumn weather mix.  It'll be warm with temps near 80° and windy with West winds at 15-25mph.  At this time, the weekend looks nice with mostly sunny conditions and temps anywhere from 70° - 78°.  There's a "New Moon" on Sunday which has a strong pull on those tides making for much more swollen high tides.  It's going to be a jammed packed weekend here. It's the Irish Fall Festival in North Wildwood, the Classic Car Show in Wildwood and the Seafarers Festival in Wildwood Crest.  And, it looks like the weather will be cooperating.  Another Wildwood weekend up ahead for the books.  First thing's first... get outside today and enjoy this summer finale!

A Couple More Summer Days Left This Week

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 82% with a dewpoint of 67°.  Breeze are out of the NW at 8-11mph.  It's a lovely summer's morn out there with only 2 days to go until Fall.  It'll be warm day today with plentiful sunshine, temps in the low-80s with W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the low-60s and N-NW at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... sunny except for some afternoon clouds, temps in the upper 70s and N-NE winds shifting to the South at 10-15mph.  After tomorrow... beach days will be at a premium as Thursday looks like it could be wet with  a 60% chance of rain and Friday looks cool and autumn-ish (high in the upper 60s) and breezy.  Saturday looks like it'll be cool and breezy as well but it's too far out to forecast the weather in my opinion.  We'll check back tomorrow (the last day of summer).  I'm sure that "summer feel" will still be in our weather line-up when it becomes officially Autumn but for these last 2 days of summer... we're in!

Last Weekend Of Summer!

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 78% with a 58° dewpoint.  Ms Sun's up and shining down on the island.  Breezes are out of the NE at 2-4mph.  There is a haze in the sky (much like yesterday) and it's not due to the humidity or clouds.  It's smoke from the approximately 94 fires in Idaho, Montana, Washington, California, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado that are happening right now.  All that smoke is wafting right over us.  No... there are no climate change issues.  Not to our United States.  We're sinking fast whether you believe it or not.
It's the last weekend of summer!
Autumn is Thursday.  And, it'll be another beauty today with plentiful (hazy) sunshine, temps in the upper 70s and SE breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the low-mid 60s and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... sunny with temps around 80° and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... sunny, temps around 80° with SW winds.

More Beautiful Weather For Wildwood

Mornin'!  Happy Friday! It's 58° in Wildwood NJ.  We haven't had that low of a morning temp since Thursday morning of Memorial Weekend.  Humidity's 78% with a dewpoint of 48°.  Ms Sun's up and shining and breezes are barely there out of the North at 2-4mph.  It's cool and crisp and clear and perfect for making a batch of scones which are making my home smell like Britton's Bakery (which is now closed for the season).  But, talk about comfortable, fantastic sleeping weather!   I've had all the windows opened this past week allowing all that sea air into the house. The island birds are everywhere happily chirping and squawking.  Much to be grateful for this morning as the "Jewel" continues to sparkle today. Expect abundant sunshine, low humidity and a high of 78°.  NW winds will 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the low-60s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... a repeat of today with E-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... the same as tomorrow.  I hit the beach yesterday for a few hours (it was barely inhabited) and quite awesome.  There are no longer lifeguards on duty.  However, there is beach patrol driving back and forth throughout the day keeping an eye on things.    Also, yesterday the flies were biting due to the NW winds and will probably be back today so remember to pack the insect repellent.  I saw one couple relaxing in the distance and each held a fly squatter batting the hell out of themselves.  Those biting greenheads can certainly drive you off the beach as beach-goers give up and get off the beach due to those hungry little creatures. Take caution if heading to the beach today.  And, ending on a good note...you should be fine over this weekend as the breezes will be on our side.

It's outta here for at least until the weekend (Sunday or Monday).  The windows are once again opened wide!  Breezes are out of the NW at 8-11mph.  Ms Sun's shining.  It's a beautiful, cool, summer morning as we're down to a week left until Autumn checks in.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with temps in the upper 70s and winds out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear and dry with temps where they are now (mid-60s) and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... same as today... low humidity, temps in the upper 70s and North winds at 10-15mph.  As for this coming weekend (which is the NJ State Firefighters Convention), looking much like today... sunny with mild upper 70s temps and thankfully low(ish) humidity. The Firefighters are going to have a nice one!

Kicking Off With Stormy Weather - Ending With Beautiful Evening Skies

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 97% with a dewpoint of 72°.  It's thundering and lightening right now with a very light steady rain.  There's a "Special Marine Warning" posted at the moment regarding our coastal waters until 7am.  It would impact small craft that could be damaged in this brief storm that could create strong winds and high waves.  I know I wouldn't want to be out in the ocean in a boat right now.  This gentle watering at the moment has very gentle winds with it out of the W-SW at 3-5mph.  It'll be a gray start to Tuesday with a 20% chance of rain between 9-11AM. Skies will then turn partly cloudy this afternoon with temps in the upper 70s and West winds at 5-10mph.  It will gradually become sunny this afternoon.  Tonight... partly to mostly clear, temps in the low-60s and W-NW winds at 10-5mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, temps near 80° and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.

Gray Monday

Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 98% with a dewpoint of 74°.  We're in the "wet" mode as everything's dripping from all the moisture in the air.  It's gray as the sky is full of clouds and it's calm as breezes are barely there out of the W-SW at 2-4mph.  Add to that the birds chirping and squawking and you've got that perfect tropical rain forest feel to the thick, heavy wet, air.  It'll be a gray, cloudy and humid Monday with 30% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms.  We could see peeks of sunshine both in the later part of the morning and early afternoon.  Temps will be hovering around 80° with breezes out of the S-SE at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 70% chance of rain with temps in the low-70s and Southerly breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... rain in the morning becoming partly sunny in the afternoon as temps reach 80° again with West winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... a beauty with sunshine, temps in the low-80s and NW breezes. It would have been Freddy's birthday today as he'd be 10 years old today!  We still have an empty spot in our hearts for you.

9/11

Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 84° with a dewpoint of 71°.  It's cloudy and gray with breezes out of the SE at 9-12mph.  It's my wedding anniversary! I woke to the aroma of coffee and bacon that my wonderful husband was preparing as I slept. To have a lifelong partner (we began dating in 1966 and married in '71) such as him requires a novel to express this magical, blessed, existence together.  I've written many, many journals throughout my life and perhaps one day I'll write a book about our life and love.  Our decades together truly is a love story and somehow always involves this island that we've spent the last part of our almost 20 years together.  As children we spent summer vacations in Wildwood with our families on the same street (17th) and never knew it. I often think of the times we possibly passed one another as little kids without knowing it. We honeymooned in Wildwood not to mention spent our summer vacations here as we raised our children with Wildwood's sand in their shoes too.  Happy Anniversary to you honey.  This one's for you.
Like our wedding day... today will be gray and humid along with peeks of sun in the morning and the possibility of rain showers and/or thunderstorms throughout the day and night (100% chance). By the way, it's said that if you have a good rainy day on your wedding day, it's a sign of good luck.  Remember, if you "tie the knot" on a rainy, wet day, that knot is almost impossible to unravel. It certainly worked for us.
Today's gray (somewhat bright) morning will turn to a light rain and by this afternoon around mid-day rain could turn to steady rainfall.  Temps will be in the upper 70s with SE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... showers likely (75% chance), temps in the low-70s with S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... patchy fog to start, mostly cloudy day with 25% chance of rain and mostly cloudy conditions. By the afternoon... 50% chance of rain with 70% chance by nighttime. Tuesday... cloudy morning with 30% chance of showers as it becomes a partly sunny day as temps reach 80°.  Wednesday... picture perfect.

Friday Perfection

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 85% with a 61° dewpoint.  Breezes are out of the N-NE at 8-10mph and Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  It's lovely out there.  According to my records, there hasn't been a 64° morning since Memorial Weekend way back in May.  It's going to be beautiful today with plentiful sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 70s and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... mainly clear, moonlit skies, temps back down into the mid-60s and East winds at 10-15mph.  The Full Moon is tomorrow.  Also, tomorrow's weather looks kind of cloudy as the day begins with partly cloudy skies turning to mostly cloudy skies by the afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-70s with calmer winds out of the E-NE at 4-6mph.  Sunday... cloudy with showers on tap by the afternoon, temps in the mid-upper 70s and S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Sorry to be the bearer of not-so-great weekend weather.  It's supposed to be "The Jewel" this time of year but it's not quite on point.  On other weather news... there's still a "High" rip current risk that remains in effect until tomorrow afternoon.  I wouldn't be swimming in the ocean if I were you.  Dipping maybe; but not heading out to the big breakers.  I'm sure the beach will have some guards on watch for those entering the surf without a clue as to what's going on in there.  Make sure you're in front of a guarded beach.  Yesterday, Ocean City lost a victim to the rip current.  There's also a "Coastal Flood Advisory" posted for those low-lying areas on the island (shorelines, bayside communities and tidal waterways) from this evening until early morning.  Be aware of the areas and the high tide times.  The Flood Sirens were blaring last night thanks to that big ol' Moon.

Beginning Of A Nice Stretch Of Weather

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 92% with a dewpoint of 63°.  We're under gray skies with lots of cloud cover as Ms Sun's up and trying to shine through and brighten things up a bit.  It's acutally a beautiful, colorful sunrise this morning as the clouds add incredible beauty to the picturesque sky.  Winds are out of the N-NE at 10-15mph.  It's cool and breezy.  It'll be mostly sunny today with a high of 76° and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the low-60s and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... mainly sunny with temps near 80° and NE winds at 10-20mph.  This weekend looks great with blue skies, plentiful sunshine, temps near 80° and light breezes.

More Miserable Weather

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 97% with a dewpoint of 69°.  Winds are out of the NE at 20-25mph.  It's misty as everything's wet and damp from the windy, moist sea-air and the overnight rains.  It'll be a pretty miserable day much like yesterday.  Expect a cloudy and windy day with showers off and on especially in the afternoon (60% chance).  Temps will be around 76° with NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  We're having a bit of a Nor'easter.  Tonight... cloudy, a slight chance of a shower, temps in the mid-60s and N-NE winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... a mix of clouds and sun with a slight chance of a shower in the morning, temps near 80°, windy with NE winds at 15-20mph with gusting as high as 25mph.  Friday will be near perfect with sunny blue skies, temps near 80° and NE winds calmer at 10-15mph.  So far, the weekend's looking like Friday's weather... sunny, warm and calm.  There's a Coastal Flood Advisory posted for today as well as a Red Zone for rip currents.  Be aware of those high tide times especially if it's raining hard especially if you are in a flood prone area.  And, do not, I repeat Do Not enter the surf today.  We're in the "red zone" with those rip currents.  My guess is that beaches are closed today.  The surfers probably would disagree with that though.  Full Moon is this weekend and it has a huge part in these very high tides.  Be smart and pay attention to where you drive and park.  Don't drive through salty flood waters!  Also, if the high tide times are 6AM, the back bay (marsh area) is 7AM (always an hour later).

Rainy Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 86% with a dewpoint of 72°.  It's gray and raining lightly with winds out of the S-SE at 10-12mph.  We're heading into a stretch of wet weather.  This is how it's going to go according to two fairly reputable forecasts I depend on.  For today... expect a rainy day beginning this morning.  I'm pretty sure these very light showers at the moment only just began as the streets and sidewalks are just becoming damp.  By this afternoon, horse of a different color as heavy rain will be developing (100% chance) with thunderstorms added to the stormy mix.  In fact, today there's a "flood watch" posted for Wildwood until 8pm tonight.  Temps will just about tap 80° as it'll be humid today (duh) and winds will be all over the place at 10-15mph (beginning from the S-SE, South, S-SW, West, N-NW, North, and ending N-NE by late tonight).  Tonight... 60% chance of precipitation with still a possibility of thunderstorms.  Temps will drop into the upper 60s with N-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... rain (70% chance) becoming windy (NE at 20-30mph) in the afternoon.  40% chance of rain tomorrow night.  Thursday... 20% chance of rain as it'll become partly cloudy with peeks of sunshine.
Remember to be aware of tidal flood today into tonight.  The Full Moon is Saturday and even though it's 4 days away, that big ol' moon has an effect on the tides; especially if we get heavy rains and you're in a low-lying area.  Know those low-lying areas if parking or traversing around the island if it's raining hard during high tides.  Do your best not to drive through flood waters.  The salty water can do damage to the undercarriage of your vehicle.  High ground is along Surf Avenue in North Wildwood, New Jersey Avenue in Wildwood and Seaview Avenue in the Crest.  As for West Wildwood... I don't have anything for you. Be careful out there.

Labor Day

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  Happy Labor Day!  Blog's a bit late as it was (thankfully) a sleep-in day.  It was one of those very restless nights as I tossed and turned wondering if I'd ever fall asleep.  It was one of those mornings that my husband said, "I was going to come up with a mirror to check on your breathing."
It's hazy sunshine outside this morning.  Humidity's at 77% with a dewpoint of 70°.  Winds are out of the South at 4-6mph.  It'll be a partly sunny start turning to a partly cloudy day with temps around 80°.  Breezes will be out of the South at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy with a 25% chance of rain, temps in the low-70s and Southerly breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... rain likely (70% chance) with temps in the mid-upper 70s and S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Heavy, local rainfall is possible.  Wednesday is 50% chance of rain.  And, Thursday the sun shines again with temps in the 80s.  Well, this is it I guess.  The parking is still thick around my street but I guess those visitors are sleeping in as well.  No doubt folks here will be bidding adieu to the summer as most will be leaving Wildwood until next year.  The season's officially over (during the week that is) but the weekends are still going to be happening.  Check the events calendar if you foresee Wildwood in your off-season weekend future!  Happy Labor Day Monday!

Happy Sunday!  Happy Labor Day weekend!  It'll be partly sunny with a mix of clouds and sunshine today.  Temps will be in the low-80s with Southerly breezes turning to S-SE breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy with increasing clouds overnight.  Temps will drop into the low-70s with S-SE breezes shifting to S-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... considerable cloudiness, 20% chance of showers beginning in the afternoon, high around 80° and Southerly winds at 10-15mph.  It's jammed packed here on the island.  Parking's at a premium.  Yet, the beaches and boardwalk aren't that intense.   I did notice the bars and restaurants are chock-full of folk.  Whatever you're up to this weekend... enjoy the fruits of your Labor!

Labor Day Weekend

Mornin'!  Happy Labor Day Weekend!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's back up a bit at 87% with a dewpoint of 64°.  Breezes are barely there out of the NE at 2-4mph.  Ms Sun's up and shining through the morning cloud cover.  The light, see-through clouds look wispy and milky making for a beautiful, colorfully painted pastel sky.  The thick, fishy aroma of the marsh and/or sea is heavy in the still air.  It was the first thing that hit the senses when I stepped outside this morning.  It's on my top-five list of favorite things that I love about living down the Shore.  Lest not forget those seagulls squawking at each other this morning... another top-five thing.
For this holiday weekend's weather... not too shabby.  Today will kick off with a lovely, mostly sunny day, temps in the low-80s and East winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps around 70° and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, temps around 80° with SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps around 70° and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Monday... 20% chance of showers as it'll be partly cloudy, temps around 80° and SE winds at 5-10mph.  Monday night... 50% chance of showers with temps around 70° and S-SE winds at 5-10mph.  So, the Summer Season will basically come to an end after this weekend.  But you know Wildwood, the weekends will continue on until the middle of October with events and things to do and hopefully this nice weather.  It's time for the "Jewel" to shine as the weather cooperates. There's lots happening this Labor Day weekend so get out there and enjoy!  And, before you know it, Memorial Weekend will be upon us once again.

Today's "Marsh" Webcam (note the marsh grass has begun to turn golden)

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  It's got that "back to school feel" outside this morning.  It's cool with humidity down to 79% and a dewpoint of 65°.  Breezes are out of the E-NE at 5-10mph.  And, Ms Sun's up and shining over the island filling my house with bright light.  All the houseplants are happy.  It'll be another beauty down the Shore.  Expect sunny, blue skies, temps around 80° and East winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps back down into the upper 60s and East winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with some clouds in the mix and temps in the low-mid 80s as well as NE breezes.  Sunday... partly sunny/partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 80s with light SW breezes.  Monday... mostly cloudy with 50% chance of rain and temps in the low-80s.

And, it Friday!  It's the "last" of the beach tips!

Friday Beach Tips:
*Stuff to pack for the beach - shoes. Always remember footwear as the beach sand is extremely hot.  That includes the kiddies... always insist they wear footwear.  I pack bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, sunblock, insect repellent (in case the winds shift from the west (land breeze) those "West winds" bring the biting green head flies), first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings just in case), a towel, shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes or wet washcloth, a small trash bag to collect the trash you may accumulate. I always pack my crocheting project as I find crocheting on the beach very relaxing.  Some of my best baby blankets are full of briny, salty yarn!
*When setting up your spot at the beach, give those around you a little courtesy and not set up too close to them.  It's always amazing to watch arriving folk completely unaware of their actions as they begin setting up their umbrella, blanket and chair only inches away from folks settled in.  Most beaches are huge (with the exception of North Wildwood) and there are blocks and blocks of available, open beach space yet it sometimes feels like new arrivals seek out people to sit right next to.  It happens more often than not and I have yet to figure out this strange phenomenon. There's plenty of beach to go round.
*Know your "tide" times.  You can always ask the lifeguard as they will know high tide.  If the tide is at its highest when you arrive, you can set up right at the water line and watch the beach as the water recedes creating a bigger and bigger beach. It takes the water 6 hours to slip into low tide.  It takes 6 hours for the tide to go from High to Low and then turn around and begin to go from Low to High (12 hour total).  The beach tides are one hour sooner than the back bay / marsh tides too by the way.
*Tips for setting up your umbrella: be aware of the wind direction and wind speed.  On a windy day, take those extra steps to secure your umbrella.  Sand screws or sand grabbers are great for securing umbrellas and it's best to dig a hole first before twisting that screw in and of course packing the sand around it.  Also, a bungee cord attached to the umbrella and then to your cooler, beach cart or beach bag works wonders for securing it for those real windy days. It's not uncommon to see umbrellas launched by the winds and more often than not into unknowing folks who are about to be impaled by your airborne, out of control umbrella.  It's inevitably happens while the entire family is in the ocean not realizing that their umbrella flew 2 blocks away.  Oh... when opening your umbrella... always point the umbrella toward the wind as this phenomenon never disappoints.  Most of the time, folks turn their back toward the wind and open the umbrella bringing about an inside out, uncontrolled umbrella giving you lots of air time.
*Beach Courtesy: Begin by teaching your children courtesy at the beach. Teach them not to run or chase one another around someone else's blanket or chair.  Teach them not to walk or run on or close to someone's blanket. I've seen toddlers who take off running onto anyone's blanket in their path.  Wildwood's sand is light and very fine and is inevitably kicked up innocently by those passing by your chair or blanket.  Wildwood sand is fantastic but can be a nuisance if wind-blown all over everything and everyone.  It's always getting kicked up.  Keeping aware of it really helps.
*When shaking out towels or blankets, be conscious of the wind direction and shake away from those in the line of "sand" fire.
*Advice for parents of toddlers on the beach (1-2 year olds)... bring a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will be much more enjoyable with those babes surrounded with toys and snacks in their little mesh, private encampment under an umbrella.  Your babe will enjoy the beach much more when she/he has had some controlled beach time right alongside you.  Not to mention they won't be as sandy while enjoying snacks, lunch, a bottle, a diaper change, not to mention a nice sea-breeze induced nap.  You'll be nearby relaxing and enjoying your beach time while they do the same.  I recently saw a young couple of a baby not old enough to walk, dig a round trench about 6" deep and place a piece of plastic (much like a part of a shower curtain) over the 2-3' wide hole and fill it with the ocean water so the babe could sit inside the makeshift puddle being entertained and cooled off as they played in their own little ocean pool.  It was ingenious.
*If you enjoy music on the beach... remember to pack your headphones.  Believe it or not, the majority of beach folk would much rather listen to the sounds of the surf or perhaps soft conversation; not the loud bass or hip hop profanity blasting next to them from your Bluetooth speakers.  Sorry... but it's something that happens quite often and it sucks.  I've left the beach many times due to loud, obnoxious music. And, sometimes it's coming from 3 different directions as beach-goers compete for who's the best DJ.
*There is "no smoking" on the beach (at least where everyone's camped out).  That includes cigarettes, pipes, cigars and joints.  Wildwood Crest has a designated smoking area by the dunes.  There's also "no smoking" on the boardwalk.  New Jersey has legalized Marijuana and you can smoke it privately on your property but you can't do it in public.  There are no Pot dispensaries in Wildwood.
*For the pooches, there are two dog parks right on the beach.  At 24th and the Beach in North Wildwood and one in Wildwood between Glenwood and Maple on the Beach as well (it's exceptional).  Read the posted rules... no food being one of them.  Dogs must always be on a leash when not in the dog parks. *Feeding seagulls is a no-no.  Eat and snack smartly.  Waving hands when expressing oneself while holding lunch is a magnet for swooping gulls.  Drop just one potato chip and you'll have seagull havoc.  Eat conscientiously under your umbrella or chair canopy.  Seagulls are vultures and are smart and endlessly eyeing beach goers eating habits.  They're relentless in trying to find the opportune moment to swoop down and pluck lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if you have an unsupervised beach bag with chip bags exposed, they'll think nothing of helping themselves to that bag and will share their newly acquired bag of chips with all their gull family and friends while you're in the ocean as 40 gulls enjoy a beach party on your blanket.
*Playing ball, Frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, kite-flying, ladder toss, spike ball, paddle ball, volley ball, Kan-jam, beach darts, you-name-it etc. are not allowed to be set up and played where beach-goers are camped.  Go back by the dunes where the big beach is empty and no one is sitting to enjoy your more active beach games.
*Observe all posted signs and warnings. Beach closures for whatever reason... lightning in the area, rip currents, storms, "surfing only" beaches etc.  If in doubt, just ask the lifeguards.
*Never leave trash on the beach.  Better yet, pick up any that you may see whether it's yours or not.  There are many, many trash and recycle containers on the beach and surrounding areas.  You might as well use them rather than let all that trash make its way into the ocean for the fish to eat or get tangled in. Remember... whatever the fish eat, we eat too.  Plastic is an epidemic.  Speaking of plastic... New Jersey no longer has plastic bags available.  It's now all about bringing your reusable bags to save the planet from those fly-away, take-forever-to-disintegrate plastic bags.
*Lastly, be courteous. Courtesy is key.  Be kind and considerate to all those enjoying this beautiful moment right along with you. It's a lot of fun being at the beach.  Try not to bring those unmindful, mean spirited, (sometimes "vulgar") nasty, moods. We can all take the time and effort to make a really nice beach day even nicer.  It's easy. Happy Beaching!

Happy September!

Mornin'!  Welcome September!  It's beautiful this morning. We've officially entered "The Jewel" as far as weather's concerned in Wildwood. It's 69° and clear with Ms Sun over the horizon shining brightly.  Humidity's low at 77% with a dewpoint of 63°.  Breezes (barely there) are out of the West at 2-4mph.  Expect plentiful sunshine today with a high of 85° and West breezes at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear, temps back into the 60s (around 68°) with Northerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mainly sunny, temps around 80° with E-NE breezes at 10-15mph.  At this time, the weekend's looking partly cloudy both Saturday and Sunday with both days temps in the mid-80s.  There's a slim chance of an afternoon shower on Sunday.  Labor Day as usual comes with thick clouds and showers and/or thunderstorms coming in during the afternoon (50% chance).  Labor Day's always been "iffy" in the weather department as it rains on Labor Day more often than not.  It makes it much easier for those checking out and heading home after they've enjoyed their summer in Wildwood. It's incredibly hard to turn your back on Wildwood when the weather's perfect.  If heading the beach today, remember to pack your insect repellent as the winds will be coming from the "West" which will no doubt bring the biting flies.
