November's Blowing Out Of Here

This Morning's Webcam Shots - NNW
Mornin'!  Hey, November... this is it! You've done us proud as we begin to really close out Autumn.  Winter's in 21 days! It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's just crossing the horizon as the sky is once again magnificent with colorful cloud cover.  Can you say purple?  Or, periwinkle, mauve, violet, lavender, plum, mulberry, orchid, lilac, iris... should I continue?  It's just breathtaking this morning and is now beginning to turn into golds and oranges as the sunrise is happening so spectacularly thanks to those morning clouds.  The winds are another story entirely out of the S-SE at 20-25mph +gusting.  They're making the seascape change with each passing minute as the clouds are being moved around right before our eyes.  These very stiff winds will be picking up even more believe it or not.  Expect a partly sunny / partly cloudy start to the day with clouds taking over the sky and bringing rain showers by late morning becoming steady rain this afternoon.  Temps will be around 60° with S-SW winds at 25-35mph +gusting up to 50mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy and still windy.  Temps are going to drop to the low-30s as the winds shift from out of the W-NW at 20-30mph +gusting up to 40mph.  Tomorrow... sunny and much colder with temps in the low-mid 40s and those W-NW winds staying checked in at 20-30mph +gusting.  Friday... mild (50°), sunny and calm winds.  As for the upcoming (December) weekend... Saturday will be mild (60°), rainy and windy as Sunday will be partly sunny with much calmer winds and temps in the low-40s.  November always seems to quickly fly on by and this year's no exception.  Until next year November... see ya on the other side!

Monday Monday

This morning's webcam shot - NWW
Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up there but dealing with cloud cover and doing incredible colorful things during her sunrise this morning.  The sky is breathtaking as it was yesterday and the day before.  Winds are out of the West at 10-15mph.   A couple forecasts mentioned patchy fog this morning, but so far, nothing in that regard.  We had some serious rainfall yesterday but only for a couple hours.  We're watered nicely as the island's damp and full of  moisture.  Today we'll dry out as it'll be partly sunny / partly cloudy and windy with mild temps in the upper 50s and NW winds at 15-20mph +gusting.  It won't be a great hair day and I'm sure will feel much colder than 58°.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-30s and North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy with temps in the upper 40s with light and variable winds.  Looks like rain on Wednesday and sunny on Thursday.

Lovely Day Down The Shore

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still dark and cloudless outside as the sunrise isn't happening for about another hour.  The New Moon is tomorrow and since it's almost invisible in the very black, clear and dark sky, the stars are the main "star" of the show this early morning.  Breezes are barely there out of the NW at 2-4mph.  It's going to be a beautiful autumn day down the Shore.  Expect sunny skies, temps in the low-mid 50s with light and variable winds.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the low-40s and W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... same as today.  And, Thanksgiving... just about the same as today and tomorrow with some clouds in the mix.

Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 28° in Wildwood NJ.  The last blog I posted with temperatures in the upper 20s kicking off the early morning was March 8, 2021.  One good thing is that there's no breeze this morning and no windchill.  It's hard to believe that 9 days ago the morning temp was 66°. Winter continues to tap on the island.  It's a quiet, still, crispy morning with frost covering everything.  Ms Sun just crossed over the horizon.  It'll be a nice day with abundant sunshine, temps near 50° and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Winds will begin to pick up later today changing things and making it feel much colder out of the SW at 10-20mph and by tonight... 15-25mph +gusting.  Temps tonight will be around 45° with a windchill of 37° and it'll be clear and starlit.  Tomorrow... much like today with sunshine, temps around 50° and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Thanksgiving in Wildwood appears to be a repeat of today and tomorrow... plentiful sunshine and temps in the mid-50s.

Very Crisp and Blustery Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  Windchill is 27° with the very blustery W-NW winds at 22-27mph +gusting as high as 35mph.  Ms Sun's up and shining through the mostly cloud-free sky.  It'll be sunny today with temps near 40° but it'll feel like the upper 20s with the winds.  There's a "gale warning" posted today (until 7pm) with the W-NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting occasionally of over 40mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the mid-upper 20s with NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow...sunny, high of 46° and W-SW winds at 10-20mph and clear and very windy again tomorrow night.  Tuesday, the winds check out and it'll still be clear and sunny with temps in the mid-upper 40s.
High Tide: 4:54PM
Low Tide: 10:42AM
Ocean Temp: 57°
Sunrise: 6:47AM
Sunset: 4:43PM
Just an FYI: A Gale warning means that the Atlantic Ocean Waters due to the strong winds today, will cause hazardous seas which could reduce visibility and capsize or damage vessels. Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course and/or secure the vessel for severe conditions today.  It could be worse... in the last 24 hours, parts of New York (Hamburg, Buffalo, Orchard Park, Niagara Falls) got pummeled by some record-breaking snow fall (from lake-effect snow).  Hamburg NY has over 6' of snowfall!!! Unprecedented!

Mornin'!  Happy Veterans Day!  Thank You to all our Veterans who have served our country.  That includes my wonderful husband!  This one's especially for you!  Love you!
It's 63° in Wildwood NJ.  It's 16° warmer than yesterday morning at this time.  We're under thick, gray cloud cover yet Ms Sun's trying with all her might to peek on through.  Humidity's 96% with a dewpoint of 62° making it feel very damp outside.  You can actually feel the moisture in the briny, sea air... almost like fog or mist.  The rain is supposed to be coming today.  It probably won't begin until later this morning (80% chance).  The breezes at the moment is out of the SE at 5-8mph and that's going to change big time.  We'll begin feeling the effects of this Coastal Storm (formerly Hurricane Nicole) for a bit.  Expect a rainy day with temps around 67° and S-SE winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... cloudy and windy with 70% chance of rain, temps in the low-60s and Southerly winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... kicking off Saturday with rain showers, then becoming partly cloudy with some sunshine beginning late morning/early afternoon, temps in the mid-upper 60s and West winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Sunday... cooler with morning clouds giving way to sunny skies, temps in the low-50s and still very blustery NW winds at 15-25mph.

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds

Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun just crossed the horizon in the clear, morning sky.  Breezes are light out of the E-NE at 3-5mph.  The ocean's roar is incredible this morning.  I can hear it even with all my windows closed.  What's weird is that there are no clouds above insulating the noise coming from 6+ blocks away.  I say "6+" because if you walk to the beach from my house it's 6 city blocks but then you get there and then add about another 500 yards of beach, making for quite a bit additional traversing through the sand to get to the ocean.  It's a nice walk.  This morning it actually sounds like the roar of a busy rush-hour highway near by.  And, all I can guess is that it's a very rough ocean by the sound of it.
It's going to be a little of this and a little of that today in the weather department.  Expect a mix of clouds and sun with temps in the mid-upper 60s and E-SE winds at 5-10mph. The clouds will increase as the day develops.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, a 20% chance of rain showers, temps in the upper 50s and SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... rain (70% chance) with increasing winds and even a chance of a thunderstorm later in the day.  Temps will be mild... mid-upper 60s as those S-SE winds will be ramping up to 20-30mph +gusting.  The rains will continue into the Friday overnight right into Saturday morning along with those very gusty stiff winds as they have no intention of checking out.  Temps will stay somewhere in the 60s.  Sunday... temps will be in the low-mid 50s with partly sunny / partly cloudy skies and still very breezy. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Nicole (now an official Hurricane) is pounding Florida (this time hitting the West coast) as I type. She's the first hurricane in 37 years to hit the Coast of the US in the month of November.  I doubt that global warming will stop anytime soon. I can say with certainty... not in my lifetime.  God bless everyone in the path of Hurricane Nicole.  We will be feeling her presence here along our coast with rain, winds and of course a very angry ocean and more beach erosion in the next couple days.

Chilly Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  "Brrrrr" is about all I can say this morning!  It's cold outside with a bit of a windchill... feeling like the upper 30s happening at the moment.  Breezes are stiff out of the E-NE at 15-20mph +gusting.  We're enjoying some Autumn weather now baby!  It'll be partly to mostly sunny today with a high of 57° and blustery E-NE winds (the first half of the day) at 10-20mph.  By later this afternoon, the winds will simmer down to 8-10mph.  Tonight... mostly clear with a few clouds in the mix and a high of 53° with E-NE breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with clouds in the mix, high near 65° and Easterly breezes at 5-10mph.  We're going to feel the affects of this Tropical Storm Nicole currently hammering the west coast of Florida.  It has yet to be called a "hurricane" but is already doing major damage as it pummels the coast.  It's fast moving and widespread and by the time it checks in along our coast (Friday and Saturday), it will have converged with a storm currently hitting the West Coast of the United States.  For Friday... expect a steady, soaking rain both day and night with a high of 68° and S-SE very stiff winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Saturday... rain in the morning with sunshine by the afternoon and still very blustery with temps in the mid-60s.  Sunday... mostly cloudy (peeks of sunshine), high of 50° and NW winds at 15-20mph.

Full Beaver Moon Today

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  What a difference a day makes!  It was only a matter of time until Autumn came back.  Ms Sun's shining with N-NE winds at 15-20mph +gusting.  At around 4:50AM, I made it for that lunar eclipse this morning (briefly) as I witnessed the earth's shadow just blocking the full moon giving it that red-orange glow in the dark, clear, starlit sky.  I then returned to the bedroom and curled back under the blanket after my quick visit and cold visit to my back porch.
For today's weather... sunny with a high of 59°, winds out of the N-NE at 15-25mph with higher gusts possible.  Tonight... clear skies, temps back into the mid-upper 40s and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... intervals of clouds and sunshine with temps in the upper 50s and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  There's another potential hurricane "Nicole" with its sites on Florida right now.  There's a Tropical Storm Watch and A Storm Surge Warning -  posted for the East Coast of Florida.  Today's Full Moon isn't helping either that's for sure. Today's the day for those folk to get into "preparedness mode" as tropical storm conditions are expected in areas in Florida and Georgia beginning early tomorrow. A dangerous storm surge is expected along much of the east coast of Florida and portions of coastal Georgia.  This weather system will affect us this Friday and Saturday with wind and rain.  Although a windy day today here in Wildwood, it's a perfect day for a walk to the Polls to cast your vote!  It's Election Day!

A Spring Beginning - An Autumn Ending

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood NJ.  It's quiet except for the sound of the surf crashing the shore (6+ blocks away) thanks to the thick cloud cover over the island.  It feels kind of warm outside with breezes out of the SW at 9-12mph.  All windows are still open as the sea-breezes waft through the house.  That's totally out of the norm for this time of year. But, no complaints here!
It'll be a cloudy to partly-cloudy start to the day with Ms Sun shining by late this morning.  Temps will be near record high in the mid-70s.  Winds will be out of the W-NW at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear with much cooler (seasonable) temps around 45° and North winds very stiff at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... much cooler and normal with sunny skies, and temps in the upper 50s with N-NE winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  The Full Moon is tomorrow and we'll probably have another lovely moon rise tonight.
I completely forgot to mention that tomorrow morning (very early) we're going to have a total lunar eclipse turning that big ol' beaver moon into a red blood moon as it slowly becomes covered by the shadow of the earth (3:02am to 5:17am est).  The next lunar eclipse is March of 2025.

It's Eastern Standard Time!

Mornin'!  Happy Sunday! We're back to Standard Time.  If you forgot to turn your clocks back an hour and catch an extra hour sleep this morning, then your timing is off.
It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and doing her best to shine through the hazy clouds along the horizon.  Breezes are gentle and lovely and currently out of the S-SW at 6-8mph.  Everything's saturated and dripping wet with morning dew. Including the inside of my neighbor's car as he left all the windows and sunroof open overnight.
We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with temps tapping 70° again (we got up to 72° yesterday).  Winds will be out of the South at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear and moonlit with temps in the low-60s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with clouds in the mix and a near record high of 74° and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tuesday... a much cooler day as it'll be sunny with temps almost tapping 60°.  And, it looks like a dry week ahead at least until Friday when rain is on the weather menu.  Not a big fan of Standard Time as the sun will set before 5pm today.  I am a fan of a good Moonrise though as a Full Moon is Tuesday and we could very well see a decent moonrise at the horizon later today if the clouds cooperate.

Adios Daylight Savings Time!

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear with some hazy, misty conditions right along the coast.  Ms Sun isn't going to be seen on her appointed sunrise time (7:30am) due to the clouds right along the horizon completely blocking her.  The sky is pretty though with all kinds of pastels kicking off the last day of Daylight Savings.  Breezes are light out of the South at 3-5mph.  Like yesterday, everything's soaking wet from the overnight dew.  Expect another beauty today with sunshine along with some clouds in the mix, temps tapping that warm 70° and Southerly breezes at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy early with increasing clouds overnight and temps back down to where they are now (around 62°).  Southerly breezes are sticking around at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... more clouds than sunshine with temps around 70° and stiffer breezes from the South at 10-20mph.  Monday... partly sunny (lots of clouds in the mix) with warmer than normal temps again... tapping 70°.  This weather may be unseasonably warm but if only it was like this throughout the entire year... I'd be first to sign up!  See ya on "Standard Time"... don't forget to turn your clocks back an hour for that extra hour of sleep tonight before turning in!

TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood NJ. It's clear with Ms due up in about a half an hour.  Breezes are light and variable.  It's another one of those aromatic, briny, wet mornings.  No rain... just clear, dark, starlit skies (some sprinkling of clouds here and there) and drippy outside from the overnight dew settling in on everything.  In fact, in one of the web cams this morning, you can actually see all the moisture in the air swirling around as a light mist. I can hear the ocean's roar load and clear too and that's from 6+ blocks away from the beach!  A lot going on for the senses first thing today that's for sure... it's all fantastic!
It'll be a mostly clear start to the day as it becomes mostly sunny this afternoon.  Note that most forecasts are reporting that mist/fog and reduced visibility at times could settle over the island this morning before Ms Sun begins to dry us up.  But, for the most part it should be a sunny day.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 60s with E-SE winds at 5-10mph.   Tonight... mostly clear with some clouds as temps drop to around 60° and S-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 60s and Southerly winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... mostly cloudy with temps possibly tapping 70° and light and variable winds.  Reminder: Standard Time begins tomorrow night when we turn in.  Happy Friday!

"Second Summer" Days Keep Comin'!

Taken from the deck of the CapeMay-Lewes Ferry
Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's over the cloudless horizon and turning everything gold.  Breezes are perfect out of the E-NE at 5-10mph.  The air is bursting with brine and the seagulls are laughing somewhere in the distance.  You couldn't ask for a more beautiful autumn morning down the Shore.  Plus, it'll be another "10° above average" day today.  Expect plenty of sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 60s with E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... a few wispy clouds join in, possibly even misty/foggy conditions will develop over the island as temps drop back into the mid-50s.  Tomorrow... sunshine again with some clouds in the mix, those higher than normal temps (upper 60s) and E-SE breezes at 5-10mph.  For the weekend, these warmer temps will continue through til Monday with Saturday being the sunnier of the two weekend days.

Lovely Hump Day

Mornin'!  Happy Hump Day and Go Phillies!  It's 56° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining over the island.  Breezes are out of the North at 8-10mph.  It'll be a mainly sunny start to the day with clouds beginning to appear in the sky by this afternoon.  We're going to have unseasonable temps coming up starting today as we'll be warmer than normal and in the mid-upper 60s along with a nice breeze out of the NE at 10-15mph.  Tonight... considerable cloudiness as cloud cover begins decreasing on the overnight.  Temps will drop to where they are now (mid-50s) with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... sunshine, temps in the mid-60s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  At this time, the weekend's looking like Saturday will be sunny with temps in the 60's and Sunday will be cloudy with temps in the mid-60s.  I'm seeing that both days are supposed to have nice breezes with no blustery, windy days on tap.

Welcome November!

Today's Webcam Shot - North Wildwood

Mornin'!  Well, Hello November! It's 61° in Wildwood NJ.  It's calm with barely a breeze out of the SW at 4-6mph.  Ms Sun has risen but the horizon clouds are locking her in and keeping her from shining at the  moment.  It's making for a spectacular, colorful, morning sky though.  We had some nice steady, light rainfall overnight and we've been watered nicely.  The air is cool and fragrant with trees and plants freshened along with the marsh and ocean's briny aroma filling the air.  It'll be a mostly cloudy start to the day with clouds early then peeks of sunshine by early evening.  There is a 15% chance of another rain shower this morning but for the most part, it'll be just a partly to mostly cloudy day with temps in the mid-upper 60s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear, moonlit sky with temps in the low-mid 50s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... a mix of sun and clouds with temps in the mid-60s and N-NE winds at 5-10mph.  So, just for the record, November brings with it some cool stuff you might want to mark your calendar for...

November 9th: Planet Uranus is visible to the naked eye (very early pre-dawn sky)
