Auf Wiedersehen September, Oktober's knocking!

Mornin'!  It's 56° this morning.  Wildwood's become quiet again except for the sound of the surf and waves crashing.  Love when I can hear that so clearly at 6 blocks away. The sky is clear with twinkling stars.  The scientific name for the twinkling of stars is stellar scintillation (or astronomical scintillation). Stars twinkle when we see them from the Earth's surface because we are viewing them through thick layers of moving air in the earth's atmosphere.  The sun's due up in a little over an hour.  It's supposed to be like yesterday with a mix of clouds and sun.  Breezes will be out of the N-NE at 8-10mph.  Temps in the high 60s.  Looks like September's taking her final bow quietly and peacefully!

Last Sunny September Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood.  The sun's almost up as the sky is clear and cloudless.  It's quiet and hardly a breeze with the aroma and sound of the ocean as this morning's backdrop.  Beautiful start to the day...doesn't get any better.  It'll be another nice one this last Sunday in September as temps tap the 70s while the sun sticks around for yet another day.  It was a little weird yesterday with no-so-expected-rain coming down in the early morning darkness but the sun took completely over and continues to hold it's ground for today as well as the next couple days.  Today's breezes will be off the ocean (E-NE) at 12-14mph.

Rain or Shine?

Mornin'!  It's 61° and wet in Wildwood.  It's cloud covered and lightly raining (where did this come from?) this quiet, dark Saturday morning.  It's not supposed to be raining according to all the forecasts.  Good day to turn over and cuddle under a cozy comforter.  Say that fast 5 times.  It'll be (or supposed to be) partly cloudy/partly sunny today with temps tapping the 70s again. Breezes coming from the N-NE at 15-20mph and a possibility of a brief shower later in the day.  Who knows what will happen?  There was no rain in this morning's forecast.  I was actually thinking this weekend could hold some beach days.  Isch don't zink zo now.  But, it all remains to be seen.  The sun can be just waiting its turn and if not, a little rain can't hold me down.  Lot's going on this weekend in Wildwood as the island's ramping up a bit once again.  Gotta love it!

Beautiful weekend for the last weekend of September

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood.  The sky's clear.  The breezes are hardly there.  It's another fragrant morning down the shore.  It's looking like a keeper today.  It'll be sunny and mild with temps barely tapping 70°.  Breezes will be light out of the NE at 10-13mph.  Tonight remains clear and back into the mid-50s.  Tomorrow...looking like a repeat of today.  Sunday...could be a repeat of tomorrow. Once again, the weekend events are accompanied by beautiful weather.  And, events we got...The Olde Time Italian Fest at Fox Park is this weekend, The Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Survivors Event is this weekend,  Ed's Funcade Haunted Treasure Hunt is this weekend, Thunder on the Beach Monster Truck races is this weekend, Pennsauken Surf Fishing Tournament is this weekend; Wild Thang 12 (PT Cruiser Expo) is this weekend, and Morey's Souper Sunday Closing Day & Chili Cook-off is this weekend! Wildwood's got it all this last weekend of September! The fun just never stops.

Mix of Sun and Clouds with thick Marsh aroma on the side

Mornin'!  It's 58° this early morn in Wildwood.  The sky is partially cloud covered; no breezes; and very fragrant out there (it's actually just plain stinky).  I'm not complaining though...love that "marsh" aroma.  It is mullet season as the autumn fishing season is upon us and that apparently is ideal bait and is probably what is giving the air that aroma...ew ew that smell.  Anyway...it's mild out and will be today as once again the clouds and sun battle it out and temps tap the mid-upper 60s again.  Breezes will eventually blow in off the ocean at 8-10mph from the E-NE.  The weekend's looking less cloudy with bright vivid blue skies and sunshine.

Hump Day!

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood.  The sky is perfectly clear and starlit.  There are no breezes.  It's as quiet as can be.  There's one other house on my street with inhabitants.  It takes some minor adjustments when the island becomes sleepy for the next 7 months but it's all good.  Today will be another lovely Autumn day down the shore with clouds thrown in the mix.  It'll be partly sunny/partly cloudy with temps reaching the mid-60's.  Breezes will be out of the North initially and by later this afternoon switch from the NE at 3-5mph. Perfect hoodie or sweater weather today or not.

Crisp and Clear

Mornin'!  It's 50° in WW this clear, somewhat starlit morn.  The stars are fading as fast as I'm typing as the horizon's lightening and looking like it's about to welcome Ms. Sun.  It's a crisp, clear, beautiful morning down the shore; very quiet and serene and fragrant.  It'll be a repeat of yesterday as the sun will shine all day with temps tapping the mid 60s. Breezes will wift (I mean waft) in from the NW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...clear and back into the 50s.

Happy Birthday Alison!

Mornin'!  Happy Birthday to our youngest child!  Just had a wonderful weekend at the Shore with her and her husband and their new baby...our first grandchild!  Words can't describe watching this new tiny life experiencing his introduction to soaking in the sea air and living the seashore life. Nice weekend! It's 51 chilly degrees in Wildwood.  The sky is mainly clear (some cloud cover) with Ms Sun about to rise in less than a half hour.  It's lovely actually as the sea fragrance is in the light early morning breeze and is seeping through any windows that are cracked opened.  It'll be a nice day this first Monday of Autumn.  Temps will be in the mid-60's with sun pouring down all day and breezes from the N-NW at 10-15mph.  I've got my eye on next weekend which has Indian Summer written all over it!

Sayonara Summer!

Mornin'!  It's 64° this partly sunny/partly cloudy first day of Autumn and last day of the Irish Fest.  There's a breeze coming from the NW at 15mph and is expected to ramp up a bit 20+mph today.  Forecasts I've checked say a sunny Sunday with mild temps - low 70s.  Looking good today as well for this first week of Autumn.  Clear tonight heading back down into the 50's.

Good to Go!

Morning!  I made it for a morning blog as it's almost noon.  Been busy with Irish prep...soda bread, ham/cabbage/potatoes and why not...more jello shots!  Been a nice Irish Fest weekend so far. First time our little grandson is making his seashore debut.  He's doing beautifully as he's soaking up the salt air and seabreezes.  A little sand in his toes and he's in...hook, line and sinker!  It's perfect weather for him too as the sun's shining; no humidity and light breezes (out of the South at 12-15mph). It'll be tapping the mid-70's with sun and breezes all day.  Tonight the breezes will be ramping up out the SW at 20-25mph +gusting.  A cold front will be bringing rain overnight.  Tomorrow...rain to start, then more sunshine.  It's all good!

Pure Loveliness!

Mornin'!  It's 63° this morning in Wildwood.  The sun's shining.  The breezes have yet to appear.  It's a lovely summer morning at the Shore.  Although there's only today and tomorrow left of summer.  There's a lot happening on the island this weekend as the weather's looking like it'll cooperate nicely.  The North Wildwood Irish Fall Festival is this weekend; the Wildwood Classic Car show is this weekend; and the Wildwood Crest Seafarers celebration is this weekend.  We're partying at the southern end of the Jersey coast!  It'll be nice today as the sun stays checked in with temps in the low-mid 70's and breezes out of the SE at 7-10mph.  If we see any rain it'll be Saturday night into Sunday morning.  That's "if".  Today...pure loveliness!

Harvest Moon Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 54° this last Thursday of Summer.  It's quiet and still outside.  No breezes, yet fragrant with the aroma of the ocean as the stars twinkle in the last of the moonlit darkness.  The sun's due to cross the horizon within the hour as the cloudless sky is lightening as I type.  It's going to be a lovely day down the shore as the weekend creeps in.  Today is the official start to the North Wildwood Irish Fall Festival. (The Golf event is today and the Boxing Bouts are tonight).  The weather will be cooperating as the sun's checked in for most of the weekend.  The temps will just about hit the 70° mark as breezes will be light today initially coming from the W-NW and shifting from the South this afternoon all at 5-8mph.  The harvest
moon becomes full in less than an hour.  Looking good today and for tonight...the sun will set as the moon rises...something to see!

Guess what day it is! WooHoo Humpday!

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood.  The sky is starlit and clear with light breezes.  It's a nice, crisp, seashore morn and a great day to be on the beach for today's sunrise (6:40a.m.).  It'll be another lovely Autumn day at the shore and a nice one for sure!  Sun's gonna shine all day with breezes light from the NE-E at 5-8mph.  Temps will be in the high 60's and maybe just tapping the 70° mark.  Looks like this pattern of weather may repeat right up until Sunday! Talk about the Luck of the Irish!

Clear and Breezy

Mornin'!  It's 55° this very windy, starlit morn.  The aroma of the sea is in the air as the bedroom window curtains look like they're pinned to the backyard clothesline.  Such great weather.  It'll be sunny today with temps in the mid-upper 60's (perhaps tapping the 70s) with breezes calming down at 15-20mph from the N-NE.  I think they're 25-30mph w/gusting at the moment.  No rain in sight until perhaps Sunday.  The Irish Fall Fest is looking dry (so to speak).  The Moon is 96% full and will rise today over the horizon at 5:49p.m.  The Harvest Full Moon is Thursday (6:59p.m.rise).  I enjoy this preview to the Season change so much.  Just wondering where all those porch plants are going to go when I bring them inside.

Wet Monday

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood under a partially clear sky.  This last week of summer begins with a forecast with rain in it.  There's a 30-40% chance of rain today beginning later this morning as the doppler's showing some activity heading our way. http://m.weatherbug.com/NJ/Wildwood-weather/local-radar/doppler-radar?cid=14
It'll be tapping the 70° mark with clouds and rain in the forecast.  Breezes will be out of the W-SW initially and shift from the N-NW at 11-14mph.  The rest of the week looks much dryer with no rain in the forecasts to write about.   The temps seem to rise a little each day this week leading us into the North Wildwood Irish Fall Festival.   Today's though...looking like a wet one.

1st Weekend with that ol' Autumn Feel

Mornin'!  It's 56° yes...you read that right as there's a bit of a chill in the sea air this morning.  Ms Sun's just about over the horizon as the weekend starts out with a nice taste of Autumn.  It's clear and crisp with no humidity.  It'll be like that all weekend as temps will barely tap the 70° mark with sunny skies and no rain in the forecast.  The moon is getting fuller as it's full next Thursday (the tides are already a bit more higher than usual).  Today's breezes will be out of the NW at 15-20mph. Tomorrow will be pretty much of the same except the breezes will be out of the SW. Great weather for our first responders!

Storms heading out on Friday the 13th

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood.  We're currently under damp, humid, cloudy conditions as the storms from last night have left us in their wake.  It'll all change today though as after a possible morning scattered shower or two (30% chance), the rest of this cloudy/rain system will head out to sea and the blue sky returns.  It'll be partly sunny today with temps in the more comfortable range...mid 70's.  Breezes will be out of the NW at 10-15mph.  This weekend's Firefighter Convention is having nice weather as it's looking sunny with Saturday's temps   getting down into the 60's giving us some sweater weather and a nice taste of Autumn. It's ironic that vast amounts of area Firefighters with all their apparatus and equipment are in Wildwood this weekend while the Hurricane Sandy injured coast of Seaside Heights' (our northern neighbor) boardwalk burned to the ground last night.  There's no end to the damage of what fire and water can do. Somehow I guess it makes mankind more resilient.

Mixed Bag

Mornin'!  It's 72° this mostly clear, starlit morn in Wildwood.   There are some clouds in the morning sky which should make for a lovely sunrise due up in a ½ hour or so.  It's looking like a mixed bag in the weather department today as rain and/or thunderstorms are a 30% possibility later this afternoon and 60% chance tonight.  Temps will creep up again today into the mid-80's as the humidity still hangs around  for yet another summer day.  Breezes begin from the SW at 15-18mph and shift tonight from the NW (probably bringing the storms). Wave action is good today...4 footers!

A Tad Warmer

Mornin'!  It's 71° this cloudy, breezy (South at 8-12mph) early morn.  It's looking a tad warmer than yesterday as temps will hit the mid 80's today.  It'll be partly sunny once these clouds blow out of here.  It'll be the same as yesterday with another 10% chance of  rain showers.  Yesterday around 4-5pm it did cloud over with dark ominous clouds and out to sea they went with not so much as a drop of rain falling.  Breezes are from the South and will switch up later (early evening) from the SW.  Tomorrow...warmer still.

More of the Jewel

Mornin'!  It's 61° in Wildwood.  It's quieted down (The Harley folk have checked out) and cooled off nicely as yesterday's jewel really ramped up and became warm enough that turning the air conditioner on was considered more than once.  Glad we refrained as the seabreeze-is-a-blowing-in this pleasant, almost chilly morning.  Ms Sun's just about over the colorful horizon and there's that lovely breeze making for the start of another jewel-like day at the Shore.  It'll be mostly sunny with some clouds thrown in the mix as there's a 10% chance of some scattered rain showers.  Temps will be in the low-mid 70's with breezes coming from the E-NE at 10-12mph.

Mostly Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 69° this cloudy morning.  The seagulls seem to be enjoying themselves this early morn. In fact, all the birds seem to be chattering happily. There aren't much in the line of breezes but it feels very comfortable outside.  Temps are supposed to get up into the low 80's as breezes wift (I mean waft) in from the W-NW (insect repellent kinda day) at 10-13mph.  It's supposed to be mostly sunny (once Ms Sun gets through this cloudy mess) and overall dry for the most part today.  There's a remote chance (20% chance) of an isolated shower today.  Keep your eye on the sky (or doppler).

Lady Luck's with us this weekend!

Mornin'!  It's 65° this sunny Saturday.  Ms Sun will be providing the mild, warm feel to one of the Jewel's of the Season.  Lucked out with a lovely weekend; albeit noisy with Harley Davidsons.  The beach is probably the best place to be as the Bikers can't be heard there.  Just saying...if you're looking for "quiet"..just a suggestion.   As this lovely day bestows itself upon us, temps will be up in the mid-upper 70's as breezes will be from the W-SW (keep the green head fly repellent close at hand).  Tomorrow...looking like a repeat of today.

Light Sweater Weather

Mornin'!  It's get this...59° in Wildwood.  The cool, autumn air is upon us.  It really feels like the first day of school weather.  It'll be just tapping the 70° mark today.  You read that right...it may not come out of the 60s today.  My bets are on the low-70s as Ms Sun will be shining brightly in that vivid blue, seashore sky.  And, she's still providing some heavy duty warmth.  Breezes will be out of the N-NE at 8-11mph.  Tomorrow looks pretty much the same and Sunday perhaps a chance of rain.  Today though...light sweater weather or maybe not.  Oh...and it's great Harley weather!

Another Lovely Day at the Shore

Cape May Vineyard
Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood.  A good bit of a morning dew on everything outside this early morn.  Could be a frost on the pumpkin kind of morning a couple months from now.  Don't want to jump the gun though as it's still feeling summer-like and
mild, a bit humid with no breezes and quietness all around.  Not even a laughing gull this morning.  It'll be another "jewel-like" day at the Shore as Ms. Sun's checked in all day and temps will just about tap the 80° mark.  Breezes will be out of the W-NW at 13-15mph and by dinner time shift from the North ramped up a bit at 20-22mph.  Tonight...back into the 60's with starlit skies.

The Jewel is here!

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood.  The sun's just about over the horizon and what breezes are out there are not enough to mention.  It's very still and quiet.  It's as though someone turned off the tourist switch...streets are empty, no one's around and the season is over.  Just like that...well, at least until this weekend when the Harley's have all roared to the Shore.  Talk about the calm before the storm!  There's some weather beautiful, calm weather up ahead...it'll be less humid with temps barely tapping 80°, no rain, blue sky, lots of sun and light breezes (W-NW at 9-10mph) as this is what we call the "Jewel Season".   For a brief 4-5 weeks,Wildwood welcomes the "Jewel" which is hands down the most perfect weather of the entire year.  Today is a preview.

Back to School Days

Mornin'!  It's 73° under clear, starlit skies.  It's still a bit humid, but there's a light breeze which takes some of that mugginess away.  The first day of school will be partly cloudy/partly sunny as it looks like the last day of cloudiness and any chances of rain are forecasted.  There's a 20% chance we could see a thunderstorm or rain shower this morning as well as this afternoon.   Yesterday was an even higher chance of rain yet Wildwood had haze and sun with a brief sprinkle of rain in the early afternoon and turned out to be a really nice day and evening at the shore.  Great night for a sail!  So, I guess today remains to be seen.   Temps will be in the low-mid 80's as the N-NW breezes will be at 12-16mph.   Tonight...a little clearer with less clouds.  Beginning tomorrow, the next 4-5 days are looking bright and sunny and less humidity.  Perfect weather for motorcycle traveling!

Happy Labor Day!

Mornin'!  It's 74° in cloudy Wildwood.  Happy Labor Day!  Happy September!  I totally forgot that yesterday was September 1st and never mentioned it in yesterday's blog.  I'm slipping.  It's amazing that here it is Labor Day once again as the summer fades right in front of our eyes.  The vacation population is beginning to fade as well as the island once again becomes mine.  From the first or second week of June until now the island belongs to the visitors and vacationers.  For the next nine months...the locals.  It's why I moved here although hanging with the visitors was and is a lot of fun.  Today's forecast is a typical Labor Day forecast....rain.  It's cloudy and humid and very still with no rain at the moment.  Breezes will pick up just a bit out of the S then SW at 7-10mph.  Temps will increase into the low-mid 80's as rains should commence any point in time.  Not sure about outdoor bbq's today...so I'm pulling out my crockpot for the bbq'd brisket. Tonight...a bit cooler and tomorrow much like today.  The cool front and much more pleasant weather
won't be checked in until Wednesday just in time for the Harleys.

Labor Day Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 74° this cloudy morning in Wildwood.  The sun did make an appearance but the clouds took over her grand entrance.  I think they'll be competing for attention all throughout the day although the forecasts I've checked say "mostly cloudy".  Not only are the clouds going to be checked in, but so is the humidity.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80's as the chance of scattered thunderstorms increase and by late this afternoon...a 30% chance of isolated rain showers/thunderstorms.  Tomorrow...50%.  Breezes won't be as bad as yesterday coming from the S-SW, then just the South beginning at 10-15mph then ramping up just a tad at 15-20mph by nightfall.  I'm going with a beach day but an early one so get packin'!
