Happy Halloween!

Mornin'! It's 37° this morning in Wildwood. It's dark and quiet as the stars are shining brightly. It's always the darkest just before sunrise. Oh...there's frost on the pumpkin! First time we're seeing frost on the island. Funny that it's happening on the morning of Halloween. It'll be sunny with some clouds hanging out and eventually taking over by late this afternoon, early evening. Rain is expected tonight. Forecasters are saying the trick-or-treaters will be home with their treats before rain begins to fall. Temps today will be in the low-mid 50's. Breezes will out of the East at 10mph. High tide: 11:42a.m.; Low tide:6:16p.m.; Ocean temp; 59°; Sunset:6:00p.m. Happy Halloween!

Sunny Sunday and Gale Warnings hanging around

Mornin'! The title sounds like 2 women, although it should be 'Old Man Winter' as he's giving us a sneak preview while he drops by. Brrr....it's 39° in Wildwood this morning. The sun's up and the Gale's are back as winds are blowing at a nice clip coming from the North at 20-25mph with some gusts. Feels like winter. Not sure how ready I am for this very quick transition into the next season. I'm hoping there's still some warmish Fall days left to enjoy. It'll be sunny today with temps in the mid-upper 40's and the Gales sticking around most of the day and evening. Thankfully, the island only received rain (lots of it) and there was tidal flooding, but we got through it unscathed except for the chill it brought along. The chill looks like it'll be sticking around for Halloween tomorrow, except we may get showers for trick or treat time (early evening). You've been forewarned. High tide:10:45a.m.; Low tide:5:17p.m.; Ocean temp:60°; Sunset:6:02p.m.

Unusual October Weather

Mornin'! It's 48° and raining in WW. There's a Coastal Flood Warning posted as an Autumn Storm is touching down as I type. Winds are rip-roaring coming from the NE at 20-30mph with gusting. This forecast is a tough one to write as a wintry mix (I just can't type S.N.O.W yet) is headed this way tonight. There will no accumulation. For today though...rain, gale warnings and coastal flooding is forecasted. By tonight into the overnight...high tide late along with the wintry mix and the cold windswept rain out of the N-NW with 50mph gusts will provide our first dose of Winter in October. Keep in mind, even though the island's included in this Nor'easter, with the exception of the gale warnings and island flooding, my guess is the warmth of the sea will continue to insulated us, keeping the S.N.O.W. far from here. We can only hope. I'm not getting the shovel out yet, but the heater just got turned on first time since last Spring! High tide:9:51a.m AND 10: 58p.m.; Low tide: 4:21p.m.; Ocean temp: 64°; Surf height: 9.5'; Sunset: 6:03p.m. Tomorrow: Sun's back at 7:26a.m.

Chill in the air

Mornin'! It's 41° in Wildwood. There's a chill in the air so the remaining deck Palms need to come out of the cold asap. Check. It's still dark and quiet this chilly morning. Sun's due up in about an hour and since the skies are clear and starlit, one can only assume we'll see Miss Sun rising. The clouds will begin drifting over the island today though and will become mostly cloudy with temps rising into the mid-upper 50's. No breezes yet, but a North wind will begin wafting over us at 10-15mph and shifting from the NE at 15-20mph. Rain begins after midnight. Thus, begins the Coastal Low and/or Nor'easter that's heading right for us beginning tonight through tomorrow night. There's a Coastal Flood Watch posted for tomorrow. Today's more or less the calm before the storm and Sunday's the calm after the storm. So, I'm thinking it truly could be time to consider putting the flipflops away (hopefully just temporarily) and dig out the boots. Ugh (no pun intended). I'm not complaining...as they're predicting snow. It'll probably be all around us, as Wildwood will experience a "rain event" with a chill in the air. So far, no snow as the ocean's doing its Autumn job and keeping us insulated and warmer than the mainland. High tide:9:00a.m.; Low tide:3:36p.m.; Ocean temp: 64°; Sunset: 6:53p.m.

Duck Weather

Mornin'! It's 63°, dry, mild, quiet, and dark this early morn. Sun's due up in just over an hour. But, I don't think WW's going to see much of it due to the morning cloud cover. Hasn't begun to rain yet, but it's on its way as I type. Forecasters are saying 70% chance of showers off and on throughout the day ending later tonight. Temps will stay in the mid-upper 60's. Winds will begin at 15mph out of the W-SW and switch direction later this afternoon out of the NW. The moon's still in the "new moon" phase and could bring tidal flooding. Be aware of the tides and avoid driving through tide/sea water. High tide: 8:09a.m.; Low tide:2:33p.m.; Ocean Temp: 63° (same as air temp); Sunset: 6:05p.m. (getting really early).

Won't be long before the morning has you back in my arms

Mornin'! It's 59°. The sky is just beginning to lighten as Miss Sun's on her way. That certainly brings Boz Scaggs to mind. Regardless...it's going to be bright and sunny in about a half hour. Temps will once again be in the upper 60's today. It'll be dry and breezy with winds out of the SW at 15-20mph with some gusting. Sounding just like yesterday's forecast the only difference being clouds rolling in later today and by this evening...showers begin, continuing into tomorrow. We have a little bit more warmth and pleasantries from Miss Sun for a bit though. High tide:7:51a.m.; Low tide: 1:16p.m.; Ocean temp: 65°; Sunset:6:07p.m. The Tides need to be of focus today as the Sun and Moon (new moon) are lining up unusually and their proximity to the Earth will cause the highest water levels of the year. The highest tides occur during full and new moons when the sun and moon are aligned and their gravitational forces pull together on the Earth's oceans. Thus...The King Tide today. Don't drive through the King's tide waters!

"Nice" Continues

Mornin'! It's 55° this morning as Wildwood greets a new beautiful, autumn day. The black sky is full of stars and just getting ready to move aside for the sunrise that's less than an hour away. It's going to be another really nice day at the shore, albeit breezy a bit later, (NW winds 15-20mph w/gusts of 25-30mph). It'll be mostly sunny, dry and mild with temps in the mid-upper 60's. High tide:6:49p.m.; Low tide:12:46p.m.; Ocean temp: 66°; Sunset:6:08p.m. Just 11 more days until daylight savings time is a thing of the past and we turn those clocks back. While I'm at it...58 days until Winter. That's a hard one to type. I always think that the Winter solstice is simply the beginning of days growing longer; it doesn't seem to sting as much.

Autumn at its best

Mornin'! It's 43° this dark, early morn. Sunrise is due in about an hour. Forecast looks lovely once again as Wildwood will experience yet another lovely Autumn day. It'll be sunny, and mild with temps heading into the mid-upper 60's again. Winds will be minimal at 4-7mph out of the South. High tide:5:57p.m.; Low tide:11:50a.m.; Ocean Temp:66°; Sunset:6:09p.m.

Another Winner. Happy Birthday Jim!

Mornin'! It's 51° this calm, dry Sunday morn. Sun's up and pouring in all the front windows. Coffee's brewed, Sunday paper's delivered, slippers feel warm and cozy and a great weekend was had by all. Nothing beats an Autumn Bonfire by the sea. It's going to be another winner today as the sun will stay with us as will the dry, autumn air. It'll be mild with temps in the low-mid 60's and breezes out of the West at 5-9mph. High tide:5:02p.m.; Low tide:10:52a.m.; Ocean temp: 65°; Sunset: 6:10p.m. Great day for a birthday!

Autumn at its Best

Mornin'! It's 52° this morning in Wildwood. It's bright (sunrise was just about an hour ago) and sunny. Leaves are beautifully displaying their colors (especially along the Parkway). Blue skies prevail on this lovely, chilly morning at the Shore. Breezes are light (5-10mph) and will remain light all day and night. It'll be a calm, clear, beautiful Autumn day. Temps will be in the low-mid 60's; tonight...mid 40's. Awesome night for a beach bonfire (bring gloves!) High tide: 4:04p.m.; Low tide: 9:50a.m.; Ocean temp: 66°; Sunset: 6:12p.m.

Last of the Winds

Mornin'! It's 54°. Sun's on its way as it will be another day of mostly sunny skies. Clouds will be in the mix as well, but it'll be lovely and continue to be dry and mild...temps in the mid-60's. West winds will waft over Wildwood (say that fast 3 times) at 15-20mph; gusting at 25-35mph for the entire day up until the evening. The winds should stay at bay (and I'm not talking Delaware) until Monday, so the weekend's looking good. Pretty much a repeat of today less the winds. High tide:3:01p.m.; Low tide:8:43a.m.; Ocean temp: 67°; Sunset:6:13p.m.

Surf's Up!

Mornin'! It's 66° in Wildwood. Rains are outta here until after the weekend! It's looking like clear skies may be greeting the sun this morning as sunrise is about an hour away. It'll be mostly sunny with a mix of some clouds today as temps reach the mid-upper 60's. We may even see 70° again. The wind will continue making its presence known while it howls over the island out of the SW at 15-25mph and gusting at 35mph. It's not only making its presence known; it's making big waves. Surf's up as waves will be 10'-15' swells most of the day. High tide:1:56p.m.; Low tide:7:33a.m.; Ocean temp: 67°; Sunset:6:14p.m.

Wild, Wet, Windy, Wednesday Washout!

Mornin'! Felt like an "alliteration" with my java. It's 68° this dark, damp, dank, rainy morn on the island. It's looking like a washout this humpday. These light rains are going to turn heavy by late morning/early afternoon. They'll continue into early evening and become lightly scattered showers until a clearing comes later tonight. Let's talk winds...not much to write about at the moment, but they're coming. By late this morning...offshore, ocean winds will be wafting over WW at 15-25mph with gusts of 35-40mph. We're talking a pretty bad hair day. Temps will stay up there though and might hit the 70° mark making things feel a bit humid. A bit humid? Ha..that's a joke! Who are they kidding, rain with ocean winds gusts? It'll feel downright soaking wet, with bad hair! Guess your best bet is a windbreaker with hood up and flipflops. Watch for flooding at high tide. High tide:12:52p.m.; Low tide: 7:42p.m.; Ocean temp:67°; Sunset: 6:16p.m.
Footnote: The sun's out at 3p.m. this afternoon and blue skies are seriously competing with the cloud cover. Oh...no rain and no winds since late morning.

Partly Sunny Partly Cloudy Tuesday

Mornin'! It's 54° in Wildwood. It's still dark and very quiet considering the howling winds the last couple days. Everything outside is covered in morning dew. Let's not forget the island's fragrance which is very predominent this early morn. Looking like the sunrise won't be completely obscured like yesterday. But, clouds are out there and minimal. Speaking of clouds, they'll be thickening and rolling in today; making for a mostly sunny and/or mostly cloudy day. You choose. Breezes will be out of the North at 8-10mph. Temps will be in the upper 60's and may hit the 70° mark. Rain develops tonight after midnight and it looks like a washout for humpday. High tide: 11:50a.m.; Low tide: 6:44p.m.; Ocean temp: 67°; Sunset: 6:16p.m.

Monday, October 17, 2011

Lovely Autumn Monday!

Mornin'! It's 63°. At the moment, it's quiet and barely a breeze wafting over the island in the morning darkness. The sun will be rising in an hour or so and it'll pretty much be a repeat of yesterday as sun and vivid blue skies prevail throughout the day, although some clouds will be hanging out as well. Temps will hit the 70° mark as winds begin to pick up out of the West again at 10-20mph. By this afternoon they'll shift from the South and eventually diminish again as we head into the evening. High tide:11:09a.m.; Low tide:5:52p.m.; Ocean temp:67°; Sunset: 6:19p.m. Today's 22 years since the Loma Prieta earthquake created death, destruction and havoc in San Francisco and the surrounding areas. Thankfully, my sister and friend had escaped injury. It was captured on national TV during the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants World Series baseball game. Scary Stuff. Thankfully Wildwood doesn't get earthquakes...NOT! On...8/23/11...5.8 magnitude right here on the ol' island!

Lovely Autumn Sunday

Mornin'! It's 61° this sunny start to Sunday. Those leaves on the trees out front are moving big time this lovely morning. Winds continue blowing out of the West at 18-20mph with some gusting of 25-30mph. Sun rose about an hour ago and my front enclosed porch couldn't be any brighter with all the sunbeams! Winds will stick around again today as the temps rise to the mid-upper 60's. Looks like a repeat of yesterday and could repeat again tomorrow. Get out there and enjoy this superb autumn seashore sweater weather day! High tide:10:29a.m.; Low tide:5:06p.m.; Ocean temp: 67°; Sunset:6:20p.m.

Gales are back!

Mornin'! It's 58° this crisp, breezy, sunny Saturday morning. It's a lovely Autumn morning at the Shore! It'll be mostly sunny with temps in the upper 60's. Gale warnings are up as stiff winds will be hitting us throughout the entire weekend. Winds will be out of the W-SW @ 15-25mph and gusting to 40-45mph. You talk about "burn" on the thighs when biking the boards! High tide:9:53a.m.; Low tide:4:25p.m.; Ocean temp: 70°; Sunset:6:21p.m.

Friday Mix

Mornin'! It's currently 68° in WW. No breezes to write about but more on that later. Today's forecast will be a mix of sun and clouds with a scattered shower and/or thunderstorm thrown in. It'll be warm and humid for another day as temps rise into the mid-upper 70s. Breezes will begin later this morning out of the South at 10-20mph then by this evening shift from the West and bring along temps in the 50's with more gusty, dryer air. High tide:9:19a.m.; Low tide:3:47p.m.; Ocean temp:69°; Sunset:6:23p.m. So far so good on the weekend weather as it'll be dry with cooler temps, albeit windy and Fall-like for those visiting WW for the Fabulous 50's Weekend and the Lighthouse Challenge. Oh...Morey's "Terror on the Boardwalk" begins tonight as well...talk about fear factor. The Morey's folk have converted Mariners Landing into a "Haunted" Mariners Landing. Remember...Fear is just an illusion.

Between Weather Systems

Mornin'! It's 67° this early morn. No breeze, no fragrance, no rain (although it's misty as everything's dripping wet), and no sounds this very quiet Thursday morning. The (waning) Full moon can actually be seen in the dense cloudy, misty, haze. Temps are going into the mid-upper 70's today and the SE winds at 10-15mph will venture over WW later and stick around. It'll be mostly cloudy with peeks of sun later and less dampness and rain than yesterday as we begin to dry out slightly before the next wet weather system comes through tomorrow. I like the sunny, blue-sky seashore days like most of us do, but there's something to say about these San Fran/London type days too. Love them. Especially with a harvest moon staring down through the dark, early morning haze while the wolves are howling in the distance. Not. High tide:8:45a.m.; Low tide: 3:09p.m.; Ocean temp: Same as the air...67°; Sunset: 6:24p.m. Happy Birthday Rosie!

Wetness in store for Columbus Day

Mornin'! It's 63° in WW this morning. It's still dark outside and lightly raining as I type. Daylight is due within the next ½ hour or so. No sunrise or sun shining today though. Wetness is in store as showers are due throughout most of the day. The local forecasters are saying that west of the island (the mainland) will receive more rain than us...we'll have to wait and see. It'll be cloudy, breezy (breezes out of the E-NE @ 15-25mph with some gusting), cooler (temps won't get out of the 60's) and showers off and on throughout the day. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm preparing for rain today. Watch for flooding on the island. Full moon+High tide=Flooded streets. High tide: 8:12a.m.; Low tide:2:37p.m.; Ocean temp: 67°; Sunset: 6:26p.m.; Full moonrise: 6:27p.m. The sun will be setting almost the exact same time the moon will be rising today and I'm not so sure if the sky will be clear by then. If so, that ol' harvest moon is something to see when it crosses that horizon. The Monarch butterflies are still hanging around a bit...something else to see!

Change-Is-A-Coming with the Full Moon

Mornin'! Vacation's over. I took a full 3 day break from the ol' blog. I don't think much has changed in the "Summer-like" weather department since the last Friday. Good for all of us as this Indian summer has provided some of the most enjoyable outdoor activity time. Not only was the Cape May Wine Fest a complete success, a mini-trip to the mountains and a 5-star beach day was enjoyed as well as this holiday weekend was filled with only perfect weather. It's still mild as it's 61° this early morn. It's dark, quiet and extremely fragrant. The heavy seashore "fishy" aroma is drifting in any opened window of the house as I type...love it. Temps will rise into the mid-upper 70's again today with breezes coming from the E-NE at 10-15mph making it feel a tad cooler than recently (no breezes currently). Milky clouds will take over the blue skies today and by late this evening rains will descend upon the island (looks like a washout for tomorrow). Before the change occurs though, we'll have one more decent, dry, mostly cloudy day at the Shore. High tide:7:38a.m.; Low tide:1:54p.m.; Ocean temp:69°; Sunset:6:27p.m.; Harvest Moonrise:5:59p.m.; Full moon tonight: 9:07p.m.

Five Star Weather

Mornin'! It's 54°, clear, and very still & quiet this Friday morn. The Sun's about to cross the horizon with not a cloud in the sky...just gorgeous horizon pastel colors accompanying the sun's rising. Temps will rise into the low 70's and winds will be gentle and light at 8-10mph from the West to start and will end coming from the East. You know the drill. It's going to be a perfectly beautiful 5-star day. The Monarch butterflies are loving it too. They're overtaking the coast from Stone Harbor to Cape May and Wildwood in between. It's all you see...butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. Just lovely. We're witnessing their 2,000 mile migration journey into central Mexico were they'll spend the winter. They're running late this year as it's usually a September phenomenom but they need favorable winds (north or west) to bring them over our coast as they dine on the dune plants to bulk up for their journey. It's amazing and beautiful so see. I'll be doing a little migrating myself this weekend beginning later today as I head northwest and will return Monday. The weekend blog will be put on hold, but if you cut and paste this 5 Star Weather, it'll take you right through to the middle of next week...enjoy! High tide:5:14p.m.; Low tide:10:58a.m.; Ocean temp:68°; Sunset:6:33p.m.

Wildwood is Warming Up!

Mornin'! It's 54° this dark, quiet, clear morning. Temps will rise into the 70's with an abundance of sunshine throughout the day. Winds are not happening at the moment, but will begin wafting over the island later this morning from the North at 10-15mph, then by this afternoon shift from the West. As this weekend warming trend commences over Wildwood, each day will be a repeat of the day before with temps reaching the 80's by Sunday. No rain in sight until at least next Wednesday. High tide:4:22p.m.; Low tide:10:00a.m.; Ocean temp: 68°; Sunset:6:35p.m. Perfectly lovely weather for the Shore. It's looking like "cattle shoot" time!

More Flipflop time ahead!

Mornin'! It's 59°, clear and dry this early morning humpday. The temperature will begin to rise to the low-mid 70's beginning today. Wildwood will see sunny, mild, more comfortable, summer-like weather for the next week. No rain in sight. Today will be lovely with sun and warmth and NW breezes (10-15mph). The same forecast will repeat pretty much each day for the next 5 or 6 days as temps climb and could reach the 80° mark by the Holiday. I say time to slip into the Flipflops again; or even better...boat shoes!High tide:3:22p.m.; Low tide:8:55a.m.; Ocean temp:69°; Sunset:6:36p.m.

Temps heading back up!

Mornin'! It's 48° again! Chill is in the air in Wildwood this morning once again. But, have no fear...the temperature is heading back up and we'll see the mid-upper 60's today. The sky is clear and we'll definitely see a sunrise today! There will be a mix of clouds and sun most of the day with a 20% chance of a shower or two up until later this afternoon. It'll be breezy today with NW winds blowing over the island at 15-20mph with a bit of gusting going on as well. Another "sweater weather" kind of day perhaps. Tomorrow could be a different story as temps climb back up the thermometer into the 70's and sun will be a-blazing and the socks can be left in the bureau! High tide:2:16p.m.; Low tide:7:47a.m.; Ocean temp: 69°; Sunset: 6:38p.m.

Sweater Weather

Mornin'! It's a bit chill-chill this morning in Wildwood as the porch thermometer reads 48°. Sky is still dark this early morn, but at the direction of the horizon it's brightening a bit and looks partially clear. (may be a good sunrise shot)Looks like it could be a repeat yesterday...mostly clouds with peeks of sun along with chance of showers all day long (50%) with winds out of the West at 9-12mph. Temps will be in the mid-upper 50's. It'll be far from a washout today as we made it through yesterday's gray day without any rain as all the wild weekend activities continued. Now that it's quiet again...I guess a little rain wouldn't hurt; neither would a sweater! High tide:1:08p.m.; Low tide:7:41p.m.; Ocean temp:70°; Sunset: 6:39p.m.

Somewhat Bright Sunday Morn

Mornin'! It's 54 chilly degrees in WW! Feels nice though...still have some windows cracked open enjoying the dry air. Sun's out but has been fading inside clouds as I'm researching today's weather. Breezes are out there too...Westerly at 12-15mph. Seems like a gorgeous Autumn day out there. It's going to be mostly cloudy today as the Sun does everything in its power to shine. We'll see plenty of sun but the clouds are hanging around again and could even provide a spritz or two later. Temps will climb to the mid 60's again. It seems like it will be pretty much a repeat of yesterday and that was a perfect Autumn day on the island. Lots to see and do and the weather complimented all the activities. High today: 12:26p.m.; Low tide: 7:07p.m.; Ocean temp:70°; Sunset: 6:41p.m.

60-40

Mornin'! It's 60° this somewhat crisp, bright, sunny morn. We may even see a low with 49° temps at night this weekend. Autumn colored leaves on the trees out front are blowing in the breeze ever so slightly. Everything's soaked from the overnight rains. (the island had rain along with thunderstorms most of the night). Skies are blue and the scent of sea air along with fresh baked crumb cake is wafting all through my little seashore cottage. Temps are going into the mid 60's today. Clouds will be rolling in once again a little later today and will make for a partly cloudy day rather than partly sunny...so says the forecasters. Never could get that one. There is a chance of showers later this afternoon...30%. Winds will be out of the West at 9-14mph all throughout the day as well. I'm thinking a 60-40 kind-a-day. 60 to the good so get out and enjoy not only the beautiful start of the day but all the jammed packed activities the island's got to offer this weekend. (check Friday's blog) and 40...to the dreary as we may get hit with cloud cover and rain later. High tide:11:05a.m. (could see some flooding due to the new moon); Low tide:5:34p.m.; Ocean temp:73°; Sunset:6:43p.m.
