Wolf Moon, Old Moon, Snow Moon, Super Moon, Blue Moon

Mornin'!  It's 21° in Wildwood NJ.  It's windy (NW 18-22mph) creating a 10° windchill.  January's heading out with a bang on her last day.  Not to mention, I just witnessed the Supermoon (closest to the earth that it can be) in perfect alignment with the earth and Ms Sun all happening about 20 minutes ago.  The left upper quadrant of that huge, red-edged moon had a gray indent which was a partial moon eclipse.  I had an exciting moment this morning with that big Super "Blue" Moon (2 full moons in one month).  On the West coast and Canada, those folk (lucky dogs) will see a total lunar eclipse this morning.  I knew it was due early this morning at approximately 6:45a.m. and waited at the second-floor bedroom window as I shouted to hubby to "Come see this moon" as his response was "Take a picture for me".  He did come in and share the moment.  So did the pooch who was lowly growling at the outside dawn wondering what it was that had our undivided attention.  It was awesome to see actually.  What was awesome was knowing what was happening. I couldn't see the alignment but that moon was pretty spectacular even with that gray indent.
So, back to January and our weather...January was kind to us I have to admit.  Even that first week...17" of the white stuff.  I haven't shoveled since as I admit she's been somewhat kind to us.  Today though...she's kicking ass with that 10° windchill as she bids adieu.  It's clear with blue skies but the biting winds are tough.  Everything out there is crispy coated with icy snow.  No accumulation from yesterday's snow showers...just a crust.  It'll be clear, sunny and cold today with temps in the low 30s and winds out of the W-NW at 10-15 becoming South and stiff this afternoon at 20-30mph. Tonight...partly cloudy, low 30s and Southwest winds at 20-30mph. Still sunny tomorrow when we wake with slightly warmer temps (it'll feel like Spring after today).  And, possibly more snow action Friday night.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the higher than usual tides today and tonight due to that Moon...keep clear of flood (salt) water.

The Gray Days Keep On Coming

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note (North 3-5mph). We're still under cloud cover with a wet weather system right over us as it's raining ever so slightly at the moment.  The doppler looks as though this wet weather system from yesterday/last evening is slowly moving out to sea but when you zoom out, there's more of that green/bluish mass heading right for us from the West.  That mass will be our dose of snow today.  Expect less than an inch of the white stuff as it'll probably be just snow showers.  We just might not see any accumulations at all.  Temps will be around the mid-upper 30s with breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  By dinner time the sky will continue to be cloud covered with snow showers but the breezes will have ramped up to 18-22mph out of the NW giving us a nippy wind chill.  Later tonight...things will begin to clear as the clouds and snow showers are out of here and that big Supermoon will finally be showing it's big ol' self.  It'll be icy cold tonight with temps in the low 20s feeling like the teens with the windchill!  Tomorrow...a reprieve...sunshine, back in the mid-30s before again heading into the wet/snowy/cold abyss Thursday night into Friday.

Ugly Monday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly.  It's breezy (winds out of the NE at 18-24mph).  It's cold and raw.  Winter's back! It'll be a wet, cold and raw one this start to the week.  Expect rain showers throughout the day (70% chance).  The temps will drop as the day continues on...low-mid 30s with those NE winds rushing over the island at 16-22mph.  Tonight....low 30s with showers early, then a wet, icy mix turns to snow showers overnight.  Not much in accumulation expected throughout the night or overnight.  But, it'll be wet, cold and windy (N-NE 15-20mph) prepping us for Tuesday.  Tomorrow...waking to more gray, cloudy, cold, wet conditions as it'll be flurrying out there as there's snow in tomorrow's forecast with less than an inch of snow accumulation expected.

Sunday Rain

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly with a breeze out of the S-SW at 10-12mph.  It'll rain all day into tomorrow.  We're in the beginning of a cloudy, gray, wet, weather pattern as we'll probably not see Ms Sun until Wednesday.  Expect rain tomorrow too and by Tuesday as the temps drop we'll probably see some snowfall as this weather system leads us right into precipitation that'll be gray, cold, wintry, and blustery as the white stuff is falling down... less than an inch is forecasted. Today..."Gumbo Weather" as it'll be raining all day with temps around where they are now...mid-upper 40s.  Tonight...upper 30s / low 40s with more rain and winds switching to the NE at 12-14mph.

Blustery Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun just rose and it's clear and quiet with not much in the line of breezes (SE 2-5mph).  They're scheduled to check in though.   It'll be a blustery beauty today with clear, blue sky and highs in the mid-upper 40s possibly tapping 50°.  Breezes will ramp up and it'll become windy with winds out of the S-SW at 18-20mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with clouds rolling in late as temps drop a bit into the upper 30s / low 40s and breezes still out of the S-SW at 20-25mph.  Those late night clouds will be bringing tomorrow's rainy day as well as some "Shrimp, Chicken and Andouille Gumbo"!

Winter Beauty

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear and starlit with hardly a breeze (W-NW 4-7mph).  It's a lovely crisp winter's morn.  The stars are breathtaking this time of year.  I'd say between April and eh...end of September or so, you virtually cannot see the sky this way.  This tiny resort town is extremely well-lit during those months and completely hamper the ability to see the sky the way it is now...black as coal and full of twinkling stars.  Lest not forget that upcoming Full moon...as we're coming up to another Super Moon (2nd this month) and is due in next Wednesday.  Today will be a splendid winter's day with plentiful sunshine in those vivid (almost "royal") blue skies with light breezes out of the S-SE at 5-8mph and temps tapping 40°.  Tonight...clear and bright with temps in the mid-30s and breezes from the South at 13-16mph.  Tomorrow...sunny, high near 50° but blustery.  Sunday...rainy and raw and could very well be the next soup day and I'm thinking "Gumbo".

Chill's Back

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cold out there this early morn.  Breezes are out of the NW at 18-22mph creating a bit of a wind chill.  We're still under cloud cover.  By the way...yesterday only proved to be a gray day with Ms Sun peeking down for less than a half hour around 2pm.  That was it.  So much for a sunny day that was forecasted.  We'll try again today though as it'll start out cloudy but those clouds will eventually give way to Ms Sun (we can only hope).  My bets are on a mostly sunny day today. Temps won't get that much warmer though as we'll barely see 40° with NW winds at 15-20mph.  Tonight...clear with temps down into the 20s with W-SW breezes at 4-7mph.  Tomorrow looks bright, sunny and a bit warmer and Saturday...more loveliness...in the 50s!

Sunny Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with stiff breezes out of the W-NW at 17-20mph.  Even with the wind, it doesn't feel bitter or biting outside this morning.  These heavy dark clouds are on their way outta here as the horizon is golden with Ms Sun just waiting for her chance to rise and shine through all this leftover heavy condensed water vapor.  Speaking of water, we had quite a rainy day yesterday with some heavy downpours (no thunder and lightning that was predicted) and I'm actually grateful for the cleanup. All the outside surfaces seem scoured and freshened up.  Today will be a bit colder with blue skies, temps dropping into the mid-upper 30s, winds out of the W-NW at 15-20mph and plentiful sunshine.  Tonight...clear with temps in the low 30s (maybe even the upper 20s) and winds out of the NW at 13-15mph.  Tomorrow...same as today.  The weekend at this time looks 50-50 with Saturday being the dry day.

Rainy Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloudy skies with winds out of the South at 15-20mph.  No rain. But there's the mist of the ocean as it's one of those mornings that you can feel the weather with the wind and moisture if you close your eyes. A nice facial exfoliation this early morn.  It's going to be one of the gray, blustery, wet days as a major wet weather system with heavy rains is due in a few hours with even possible thunderstorms and is heading right for us.  Temps will tap 50° with winds out of the S-SW at 25-30mph.  By dinner time we could see peeks of sun (maybe even a decent sunset) but we'll still have the stiff breezes.  By evening, the rain clouds should be checked out as temps drop into the low 40s with W-NW winds at 15-20mph.  I saw on the news last night that John Coleman co-founder of the Weather Channel (35 yrs ago) passed away this weekend at the age of 82.  His famous legacy will be weathercasting as an integral part of our culture. A tip of the hat to you Mr. Coleman!  I probably wouldn't be blogging the weather if not for you.

Green (I mean Gray) Monday

Mornin'!  Go EAGLES!!!  We're heading to the Super Bowl!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  We just had a spritz of rain as it's cloud-covered and wet outside.  Breezes are very light out of the SW at 6-8mph.  It's not raining at the moment as the doppler has a section of green (Go Eagles!) that's moved off the coast very recently.  It appears as if we'll have no rain again until this time tomorrow as Tuesday looks like a washout along with thunderstorms.  We're not going to see as much sun as we did this weekend today that's for sure.  Yesterday was mild with peeks of sun along with lots of cloud cover and today's forecasted to have even less peeks of sunshine.  It'll feel mild though as temps tap 50° with Southerly breezes at 10-14mph.  Tonight...cloudy with temps in the low 40s and breezes out of the South at 15-18mph.  Ms Sun will be back on Wednesday!

Go Eagles!

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still, clear and starlit with a side of brininess.  It's one of those mild, winter, dark mornings with the smell of the sea and/or harbor heavy in the crisp air.  It's one of my top ten favorites...right up there with a nice sunrise or a lovely beach day.  The aroma immediately hits the olfactory receptor nudging my memory of being a child sitting in the backseat of the family station wagon with windows down allowing the sticky, summer air in while Dad asked if we could smell the Shore while entering the Tuckahoe area on our long drive to Wildwood each summer. That aroma meant nothing but "great" to me as a kid.  So for today's seashore weather...same as yesterday but with some cloud cover thrown in.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 40s with hardly a breeze out of the W-NW 4-7mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the upper 30s / low 40s.  Breezes will shift a bit around dinner time from the S-SW at 10-15mph and then by bedtime shift from the South at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow will continue to have mild temps and be mostly cloudy prepping us for Tuesday's gray, blustery, rainy day (homemade chicken noodle soup day).  Today though...if it's anything like a repeat of yesterday like they say then we're in for another treat.  I'm not exaggerating when I say it actually felt like there was a glint of Spring in the air!  I took advantage and washed winter jackets and hung them on an outside clothesline. I also took a walk up to the boardwalk to see the Kennel Club dog show and enjoyed some of that great weather.  Oh, and "Go Eagles" (my home team) as we've got the Super Bowl in our sights!!!

Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  We just had a lovely sunrise as it's a beautiful crisp, winter's morn.  No breezes to note but all reports are stating that any breezes that do exist at the moment are out of the SW.  It'll be a sunny Saturday with temps in the low-mid 40s and breezes out of the W-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clear and starlit with temps in the upper 30s and breezes out of the W-NW at 7-10mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same with some clouds thrown in and temps not quite as warm.  It'll feel like Spring today after these last couple weeks.  Balmy weather or not I've got a whole chicken to roast and with some fresh Spring veggies and some noodles it's looking like Homemade Chicken Noodle soup's on the next Soup Menu!

Lovely Winter TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 29° in Wildwood NJ.  Blog's a bit late due to staying up way past my bedtime last night.  It's all good!  I woke to a vibrant, bright sunny morn with no breezes (no wind chill) to report.  Ms Sun's pouring in the house as warm as she can be for the middle of winter.  It'll be the start of a pleasant stretch of winter weather.  Expect plenty of sunshine and warmer temps today and for the weekend.  Today's high will be in the low-mid 40s with breezes out of the W-SW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the low 40s and breezes out of the SW at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow...same but warmer.  And, Sunday...a bit cooler and cloudier, but still mild.  I'll take it!  The visiting "dog show" pooches will too I'm sure!

Sunny and Blustery

Mornin'!  It's 21° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear (line of clouds at the horizon making for a later sunrise) and windy (NW 20-30mph w/gusting) and feels like -7° and is brutal when stepping on that porch to check the ol' thermometer.  Winter's becoming really annoying.  I know it can be much much worse, but still...
Unlike yesterday which was a "Cream of Broccoli Homemade Soup Day" and was windy with snow showers on and off feeling blustery, raw, wet, and icy cold...today will be a sunny, blustery day with temps in the low 30s and winds out of the W-NW at 18-23mph giving us that windchill factor.  Ms Sun will certainly feel warm pouring into the front of my home, but those winds always kick butt when out and about.  It'll definitely be a "scarf around the neck" kind of day.  Tonight...cold with temps in the mid-upper 20s and winds out of the W-NW at 15-25mph.  Leaving on an warmer, brighter note...this weekend will feel balmy with Ms Sun checking as temps climb into the low-mid 40s!  The pooches are going to love that...yes...it's that time of year...The Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show is in town (Wildwood Convention Center) beginning today!  The infamous Boardwalk belongs to the Dogs this weekend.

Cold Gray Hump day

Mornin'!  It's 36° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with misty / light foggy conditions.  Winds are light out of the NW at 5-9mph.  We were supposed to see "the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow giving lustre of mid-day to objects below" this morning but it's just wet from the overnight / early morning mist out there.  Expect the temps to drop as the day progresses as the cloud cover isn't going anywhere giving us a 30% chance of snow showers and temps dropping into the upper 20s.  The winds will begin to ramp up from the NW at 18-23mph by later this morning.  By tonight...clouds clearing but blustery and cold with temps in the upper teens / low 20s and NW breezes at 16-24mph.  Tomorrow...sunny and warmer beginning a stretch of warmer, more comfortable winter temps.  The weekend will feel balmy with mid-upper 40° temps.

Red Sky In The Morning...

Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ.  It's partly clear / partly cloudy with hardly a breeze (East 2-4mph).  The partly cloud covered sky is providing that sound insulator for the ocean's waves crashing loud and clear the minute you step outside.  It's cold and crispy with a layer of frost on everything but the best part is that morning sky which is brightening and becoming every shade of gold, purple, red and pink. The sky is just gorgeous this winter's morn.  That little bit of red sky brings me to mind of "sailor's take warning".  There's a Clipper headed this way tonight, overnight and into tomorrow.  We're talking a fast-moving storm.  This storm will move over the island quickly beginning tonight and it's supposed to give us a couple inches of the white stuff.  Get the shovels back out (hopefully we'll only need a broom).   For today though...mostly sunny with clouds in the mix; temps in the mid-upper 30s; breezes out of the East at 8-10mph.  Tonight...clouds check in with E-NE breezes switching to NW at 9-11mph with temps dropping to upper 20s / low 30s and snowfall beginning around 10p.m.  It'll snow on and off through the night into tomorrow with snowfall likely until 1p.m.

Happy Martin Luther King Day

Mornin'!  Happy Martin Luther King Day. It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with winds out of the N-NE at 15-20mph +gusting. Baby it's cold outside!  It'll be a mostly cloudy (we may see Ms Sun right before she sets much later today) with temps in the low-mid 30s and breezes out of the NE at 15-20mph. Tonight...clouds begin to check out as we'll see much clearer skies, hardly a Moon shining down and temps barely tapping 30°.  Winds will simmer down just a bit and remain out of the NE at 10-15mph.  It's supposed to be sunnier and a little warmer tomorrow.

Winter's Having Its Way With Us

Mornin'!  It's icy cold out there this morning.  It's 18° and feels like 4° with the wind chill.  Winds are out of the N-NW at 18-22mph.  The sky is clear and starlit.  With all that snow gone and the Harbor beginning to thaw, we've got a sunny winter's day ahead of us with temps in the mid-20s and wind chill temps in mid-teens.  The winds will be out of the North at 12-18mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with temps in the upper-teens with a single digit wind chill as breezes will still be hanging around from the N-NE at 10-15mph. Tomorrow...balmy with sunshine and mid-30s for the temperature!

Mix of Clouds, Sun and Colder Temps on Tap

Mornin'!  It's 51° in balmy Wildwood NJ.  Houston, we have meltdown!  No more snow here in Wildwood!  The enormous plowed snow forts are still here in parking lots, street corners etc. and will probably be here until March.   But, due to yesterday's warmish winter temps and fog and mist and occasional drizzle, Mother Nature provided a beautiful consistent, slow meltdown.  We never had the heavy rainfall, flooding or winds that the mainland or Philly got.  It's currently cloudy with howling N-NW winds at 28-35mph.  It should be partly sunny as temps begin to drop significantly for today's 1:00p.m. Polar Plunge in Wildwood.  It's held at the Convention Center at the beach. By then, the temps will barely be tapping 30° with NW winds at 20-25mph as the Crazy Folk stand barefoot on the beach and run into the 35° drink.  Even with Ms Sun trying to break through and shine, I'm not so sure how much we'll see of her or how much warmth she'd be providing an almost naked, shivering body. It is something to witness and quite unbelievable if you've never been on the beach watching a polar plunge in person before. My mind is always blown away by this event.  It's brutally cold for the bundled up spectators! The weather later this afternoon / early evening will have the clouds checked out bringing clear skies and winds from the W-NW at 25-35mph and much colder temps...28-30°.  Tonight...clear and cold (upper 20s) with N-NW breezes at 18-20mph.  Tomorrow...winter's not going anywhere but there will be plenty sunshine.  Temps will be in the 20s and the Northwind still blowing.

Gray, Wet And Possibly Flooded Friday

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  I just put Johnny Mathis' "Misty" on my Itunes program while typing my blog this morning.  A lot of very heavy fog and "misty" conditions out there this morning.  No rain but lots and lots of fog and mist and water dripping and melting everywhere. The snow is leaving us!  By tomorrow...I'm predicting not a piece of snow will be on the island.  It feels damp but not cold and a little breezy with breezes out of the South at 8-11mph.  The breezes will ramp up though as temps begin to tap the low 50s the breezes will be up to 20-25mph out of the South.  It'll be raining throughout the entire day into the overnight.  Some rainfall could be light showers and some could be heavy.  I don't think we'll be getting as much rainfall as those west and north of us.  Tonight...rain will turn to fog again as temps stay in the upper 40s with winds out of the South at 15-18mph.  Tomorrow...rain in the a.m. as cold winds begin to wift (I mean "waft") in bringing very cold wintry temps (low 30s) by late afternoon and mid 20s by Sunday.  Tonight...I'm considering moving the car later and packing the wellies when heading out on date night...just in case we have to walk home to flood waters from higher ground where the car's parked.  One never knows when living on an island as preparedness is key.

Warm Up Continues

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got some cloudy conditions with early morning fog and hardly any breezes to note.  It's quiet with the sounds of plowed snow mounds melting into the storm sewers.  It'll be a partly cloudy day with temps in the mid-upper 40s (maybe tapping 50s) with breezes initially out of the S-SW at 8-11mph and switching later this afternoon from the S-SE at 9-12mph.  Tonight...cloudy with a 40-60% chance of rain (especially in the overnight) temps in the low-mid 40s and breezes out of the S-SE at 15-20mph.  The rain coming on the overnight will continue to rain down (heavy at times) throughout Friday into Saturday.  I'm moving my vehicle to higher ground tomorrow as flooding is a concern with all this snow meltdown and living so close to the harbor.  Plus the New Moon is Tuesday and like a Full Moon...the pull of the moon or lack thereof creates much higher than normal tides.

Lovely Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 30° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear, moonlit and starlit with no breezes to note.  There's still lots and lots of snow out there but a slow-motion meltdown is happening as I type.  When standing outside in the dark silence, I can hear the water running from the snow piles into the storm sewers on the street corners.  In fact, once Ms Sun's up today and things begin to warm up, I'm expecting quite a boost in the meltdown as temps get into the low 40s with lots of these snow piles evaporating right before our eyes!  We're going to have plenty of sunshine, warmer temps and very light breezes out of the East at 5-7mph today.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-30s and breezes out of the SE at 7-10mph.  Tomorrow...even more meltdown as temps tap 50°!  I don't think we'll see the 20s until late Sunday night thankfully.  I still made some homemade soup to warm the bones yesterday...a delicious Minestrone!

Continued Meltdown

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  It's actually feeling much better out there.  We're still majorly snow covered, but thawing is happening. The surface of my street is once again visible!  It's cloudy with those milky/foggy clouds in the sky.  Breezes are out of the West a 8-11mph.  It'll be a nice one today with mostly sunny skies and temps in the upper 30s with W-NW breezes at 12-15mph.  Tonight...partly clear / partly cloudy with temps in the upper 20s and breezes out of the W-NW at 7-10mph.  Tomorrow looks like a repeat of today with even warmer temps (mid 40s).

Sunny Monday (until this afternoon)

Mornin'!  It's 26° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and at'em with breezes out of the S-SW at 15-25mph.  It'll be a mostly sunny day with some cloud cover in the mix.  Temps are rising and will be in the low-mid 30s with breezes out of the SW at 17-30mph.  Heavy cloud cover comes later today into the evening as temps stay around the low 30s and rain develops.  We'll have those winds sticking around (SW 20-25mph) and rain showers tonight (early evening) into the morning tomorrow.  There's a lot of snow here to wash away via rainfall and I'm already thinking of flooding.

Frigid and Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 6° in Wildwood NJ.  Wind chill is -7° with the N-NW winds at 15-18mph.  It's amazingly and brutally icy cold outside.  Of course, I was checking back porch conditions in my slippers and robe for just seconds but how anything can live and survive out there is a miracle (seagulls, ducks, squirrels, birds, rous and cats (yes...cats who are feral and live by the neighboring harbor)!  We haven't seen a squirrel since the storm.  We're still majorly knee deep in the thick of it with deep snow in some spots and still white everywhere (no thaw yet) with those NW breezes that are the killer.  It'll be another sunny day (Ms Sun's due up in less than half an hour) thankfully with temps in the upper teens (although it'll feel like single digit temps) and breezes finally calming down out of the W-NW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-upper teens and breezes out of the SW at 10-12mph.  Tomorrow looks warmer as temps will climb up into the mid-upper 30s (hard to believe I'm looking at the temp as a relief) with a partly sunny / partly cloudy day.

Twelfth Night and The Freeze is Still On!

Mornin'!  It's 10° in Siberia...oops I mean Wildwood NJ.  Today is the twelfth night after Christmas and is the start of Mardi Gras / Carnival season.  The wind chill is 0° as the West-NW winds are still ramped up at 18-25mph w/gusting.  Oh...the winds aren't checking out until tomorrow afternoon.  There's a wind-chill advisory posted until then.  We're covered in a huge blanket of drifting, hard, icy snow.  Lots of digging out going on all over the island but difficult due to the deep drifts, very cold temps, and those annoying, intolerable, blustery winds.  It'll be another frigid sunny day with temps tapping the mid-teens but with the 20-25mph w/35mph gusts out of the West making it feel as low as -7°.  Tonight...clear with temps back down into the single digits (maybe 10°) with winds out of the NW 20-25mph w/gusting.  Tomorrow...sunshine with temps in the low-mid 20s!!!

A Taste of Siberia

Mornin'! It's 10° in Wildwood NJ (Siberia of the east coast).  It's sunny and windy (W-NW 27-37mph) with a wind chill of -5°!!!  It's crazy out there.  Ms Sun's up and glistening on all the snow both laying everywhere in huge drifts and in the frosty, sparkling, twirling, winds.  These incredible non-stop winds will not settle down and give us a break.  Last I heard, we were the winners for snow accumulation yesterday...17" on the white stuff.  What sucks is the drifts...much more than 17" in some spots.  This isn't just pushing the shovel to clear the walkway...it's chop at the top of the drift layer by layer to get to the bottom layer so you can shovel.  I'm just happy to report...no flooding, we have electric, heat, and Ms Sun's shining through the front windows of my entire home at the moment!  It'll be mostly sunny all day but she's got her work cut out for her as the temps won't get any warmer than 18° and along with those intense, relentless, howling winds (25-30mph +gusting)...I'm afraid the wind chill will be between 1° and -1° today down the shore.  Tonight...mostly clear, high of 13°, wind chill of -6°, winds out of the West 25-30mph.  Tomorrow...a repeat of today.  The Asian Noodle soup was delicious yesterday.  We enjoyed it for both lunch and dinner.  I kicked it up a notch by adding wasabi powder, lots of fresh ginger and a shot of hot pepper flakes.  Thankfully, that soup will be available for today and tomorrow!

Doing a Wendy and Jack in the Overlook Hotel today

Mornin'!  It's 28° in Wildwood NJ (feels like 12° with that blasting wind chill). It's been snowing since around 9p.m. last night and we've got a couple of inches of the white stuff depending on where you look (the winds are having their way with where the snow accumulates).  They're intense and howling (in fact that's what woke me this early morn) out of the NW at 30-40mph w/gusting and already creating snow drifting (it's the light variety and blowing everywhere).  It's the start of a blizzard here down the shore as I can't help but think of Wendy and Jack in The Shining.  The coast is experiencing frigid, arctic air with a strengthening Nor'easter bringing blinding snow and gusts of blizzard condition winds all day today. As we hunker down, the coast is to expect minor-major coastal flooding and beach erosion, especially during high tides.  We're also to expect dangerous travel conditions, scattered power outages and bitter wind chill across the entire east coast (wind chill will be below 10° today).  Blizzard warnings are posted until tonight around 7p.m.  The snowfall could be heavy at times as temps tap 30°.  Winds will be out of the NW (even though it's a Nor'easter) at 25-35mph w/gusting as high as 40+mph.  The forecasts are saying that snow accumulation will be 3-6" (we can only hope).  By late afternoon, the heavy snowfall should turn into snow showers and by tonight...the snowfall should be gone and we'll have just those frigid-icy temps with those nasty, biting winds hanging around...low around 17° and West winds at 18-22mph w/35mph gusts. We're hunkered.  Candles are ready.  Ice is made for the coolers.  Vehicles are moved.  Tomorrow...a mix of clouds and sun but very cold with below zero wind chills.  So...today's soup ingredients are in as I'm going with a recipe I haven't tried yet...Asian Noodle Soup.  This one has Pork, snow peas, cabbage, carrots (I'm adding parsnips too)and of course noodles with lots of tasty herbs and spices...green onions, cilantro, parsley, ginger root, and tamari (I prefer this instead of plain ol' soy sauce).  Stay safe all you Coastal folk!  Here's Johnny!

FOOTNOTE: It's 9a.m. and the local weather man (a weather genius in my book) just announced that the coast will receive at least
 12" of the white stuff.

A Nor'easter Has Us In Its Sights

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear, starlit and moonlit with no breezes to note.  In fact, there's no wind chill to report at the moment.  It's just cold as hell.  It'll be fairly decent today as winter days go with mostly sun shining down and temps climbing way up into the low 30s!  Cloud cover will filter in later today.  Winds will also commence later this afternoon from the West first at 5-10mph then switch out of the East at 10-15mph becoming 20-25mph by tonight.  Tonight's temps will drop into the low-mid 20s as a Nor'Easter comes-a-knockin' and brings snow and winds beginning around midnight.  Now would be the time to expect Wind Chills to check in.  During the overnight and into tomorrow expect major winds (gusts of up to 47mph) and 2-4 inches of the white stuff.  Friday...Ms Sun returns but with even bitter colder temps and those stupid winds which have no intention of checking out creating a wind chill factor of biting miserable proportions.  At this time, the weekend's looking sunny but frigid.  If you ever wanted to come to down the shore and see the Delaware bay and all the surrounding harbors frozen...now's the time to do it!  I still haven't decided what kind of homemade soup's on the menu.

The Freeze is Still Checked In

Mornin'!  Our furnace is getting a good workout. It's 17° in Wildwood NJ.  There's an 8° wind chill factor as the NW winds are wifting (wafting) over the island at 15-20mph.  It's clear and moonlit (that Supermoon is shining down and making the island almost look like daytime). The Freeze continues today with temps in the low-mid 20s, breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph and clear, sunny skies.  Tonight...clear, moonlit and cold.  Tonight's temps will be in the low 20s (13° windchill) with breezes out of the West at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...more sun and slightly warmer temps.   Hope all our absentee owners (Shoobies) have shut their water lines (outdoor showers, hoses etc) off.  And, the new norm for setting the house heater thermostat is 60° when leaving your beach home for the winter.  Rest assured...once things settle down and warm up a bit, all those frozen pipes will begin bursting if you didn't drain your pipes or forgot to turn your furnace on and set it on a decent temp.  The emergency workers are finding that 50-55° may not be cutting it in some cases when it becomes this consistently cold.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Happy New Year - Super Moon Monday

Mornin'!  Happy New Year!  Welcome 2018 and  a Super Moon!  It's 9° in Wildwood NJ.  It's breezy with N-NW winds at 18-20mph making it feels like -10°.  We're in it!  Ms Sun's shining brightly.  No clouds in sight.  The harbor's got a layer of ice on it.  There's some leftover snow residue here and there on the island. We're in for a cold one to kick off 2018 and I'm not talking a brewsky.  Temps will barely tap 20° with breezes out of the N-NW 18-20mph so expect a wind chill factor.  Ms Sun's staying checked in until dusk.  Once the sun sets...clouds roll in as temps drop into the teens again and winds out of W-NW will be 16-20mph.  Tomorrow...almost a repeat of today but just a tad warmer.

Some info on that 1st Supermoon of the year (the next is January 31st...two this month)...it's known as the Wolf Moon when the Native American tribes would hear the wolves constantly howling in hunger.  It's the "super" moon because of how big it appears...14% larger than normal due to "perigee" which refers to the Moon's closest point to Earth and "syzygy" which is when celestial bodies line up (as the Sun, Earth and Moon do during each full moon).  This moon has an oval or elliptical orbit, not a "round" one.  At its closest extreme (tonight and 1/31/18), the Moon can be 14% closer and thus appearing 14% larger than other full moons!
Happy New Year everyone!
