Happy Halloween!!!

Mornin'! Happy Halloween!  It's 55° on the ol' porch thermometer.  It's clear and quiet with nothing in the line of breezes.  There's a note of fishy-ness as the aromas of the sea and bay are predominate in this early morn stillness.  It'll be mostly cloudy again today with temps in the high 60's. Winds will be out of the South 5-10mph.  Tonight...30% chance of rain showers and looks like it will hold off until after trick-or-treating takes place.  Here on the island, Halloween in celebrated by going to "Trunk or Treat" areas for the kiddies rather than knocking on the empty, quiet neighborhood homes.  Vehicles are parked and decorated and hold buckets of all those sweet goodies!  There's a couple locations.  One, is near the Elks Lodge (where their annual haunted house set up) at Old New Jersey Ave. and 1st/2nd Aves. as well as Wildwood Crest Pier at Heather and Ocean Aves.  Enjoy!

Normalcy returns

Mornin'!  It's 58° in Wildwood.  I'm back!  Actually I returned late Monday night from my Key Weird (West) week's vacation.  I checked off a Bucket List item by taking part in my very first Fantasy Fest.  It'll most likely be my first and last but I'll admit I was extremely happy to have had that experience. Chances are pretty good that it was probably (key word: "probably") a "one and done" but ya never know!  Yesterday was an extra day off as the unpacking, laundry, grocery shopping, doctor's appointment etc. was checked off the things-to-do list as I began slipping into normal mode.  While away we celebrated a year anniversary of Super storm Sandy.  It's so hard to believe it's been a year.  We just finished having the last of her damage corrected as our back door and framing were all replaced prior to going away.  I also heard we had quite a cold snap while in Florida as the temps here were tapping the 30s.  Luckily we came home to comfortable, autumn weather.  It was lovely here on the island yesterday.  Today...clouds are supposed to roll in as it's officially being called a partly cloudy day with a 20% chance of a rain showers in the morning.  Winds will be light from the W-SW at the start of today and shift to the S-SE later all at 5-9mph.  Temps will be in the low-mid 60's and if Ms. Sun doesn't show herself, I'm thinking it could feel a wee bit chilly.  I'll be taking a sweater or jacket along with me today as I return to work and some real normalcy.

Bon Voyage!

A typical Key West street
Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood.  The sky is clear.  The bright moon is shining.  The winds are howling.  And the sun's-a-rising!  It's still dark and starlit, but the sky is beginning to lighten along the horizon's direction as daybreak's less than an hour away.  Brilliant, blue sky will be the main attraction today as the Fall temps stick around...mid-60s today.  The ferocious winds will be slow down by late morning.  But, for now they're out of the NW at 20-25+mph.  Ok...so here I go again...today's the start of my 10-day vacation as hubby & I jet off to Key West for our first Fantasy Fest experience.  We're definitely Key West savvy, but the Fantasy Fest will drop our jaws more than once this upcoming week I'm sure.   I'm packed (including some Halloween embellishments included) and ready.  So, my blog's going to be on vacation as well.  No laptop or notebook going along with us as I put everyday life on the back burner for a spell.  I will be journaling...both daily handwritten entries as well as (very interesting) photos but South Jersey will be the last thing on my mind next week.  I've included one of my main forecasts that I check daily when researching weather forecasts for my blog in the event you want to catch up on the upcoming week's weather.

Just an fyi...Key West's upcoming week's weather...Sunny, hot, humid (mid-upper 80s) with 10-20% chance of tropical rain showers 3 out of 6 days. And, here's the link to the KW webcams...you just may see me on one of them! http://www.floridakeyswebcams.tv/

Mixed Bag

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood.  At the moment, the sun and clouds are battling it out!  It's very bright over at the horizon yet clouds are covering the sun that's doing its best to break out.  It'll be mostly overcast and cloudy today with peeks of sun.  Temps are heading into the mid-upper 60s as the winds are wifting (I mean wafting) in from the SE-E at 13-15mph.  Tonight though...the winds will be ramping up at 20-25+mph as a cold front approaches bringing with it rain showers.  Tomorrow...a tad chillier but the clouds should be gone for the most part.

Penumbral Eclipse tonight

Mornin'!  It's 59° in breezy Wildwood.  Winds are out of the W-NW at 18-22mph with some gusting and will stay there all day.  Yes...bad hair day up ahead.  The sky is clear as the October Full Moon is lighting the island.  Ms. Sun will be rising in over an hour and shining down as it's going be a mostly sunny day.  Temps will be in the low-mid 60s and not sure if we'll see the 70s. All forecasts point to the 60s today. Tides will be higher due to the Full Moon so watch the rising waters and minor flooding.  Oh, and we're going to have an eclipse this evening.  It's called a Penumbral Eclipse as the Earth will cast a faint shadow on the Full Moon around the SW/lower half of the moon tonight at 7:50pm.  The weekend's looking ok as tomorrow looks a bit more cloudy with Sunday's weather much like today's.

More of the same

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood.  It's repeating the last couple mornings...you know the drill...dark, quiet, fragrant, still.  There's once again some cloud cover mostly over the area of the ocean yet you can see stars in the clearings straight above.  Sun's due to cross the horizon in about an hour.  It'll be partly sunny/partly cloudy today with temps tapping the 70s again.  We got up to 72° yesterday afternoon with sun finally shining after being gray and chilly mostly all day.  Today, we'll see more of the sun so say the forecasts I've checked.  It should feel warmer.  But, tonight a low pressure system will clip our region bringing rain showers.  Breezes will begin to ramp up a bit later too.  First, from the W-SW and shift to the S-SW at 10-15mph.  For the most part...looking like a nice Fall day down the Shore.  Oh...the tides are increasing as the Full Moon is in 2 days and the streets have begun to flood just a tad.  It's salt water seeping up so don't drive through those waters if you want to be kind to your vehicle.

Clouds are checking in today

Mornin'!  It's 61° in WW.  The sky is clear and brilliantly star lit as I looked straight above my head, however as I looked toward the ocean the sky was filmy and covered with clouds (not a star visible in that direction).  No breezes at the moment allowing the fragrance as well as the sound of the surf to fill my senses (my personal favorite). There will be a mix of clouds and sun today although by the sounds of 3 forecasts I've checked, all say we'll see more clouds than sun and in fact we may see no sun at all.  The Jersey coast is apparently between 2 systems as one from the West (approaching cold front) is headed our way as the other is hovering just off the coast.  We could see an isolated shower or two (10% chance).  Temps will be in the high 60's.  Breezes will be from the E-NE initially and shift from the E-SE by this afternoon all at 8-10mph.

Next Up...a Nice One!

Mornin'!  It's 56° in Wildwood.  The cloudless, starlit sky is amazing this morning.  The moon is bright as it will be a Full moon in 4 days.  There's a light breeze off the ocean giving a bit of a chill not to mention a wisp of ocean fragrance to the morning.  The sun's due up in just over an hour.  Temperature will be in the mid-upper 60's with sun shining all day.  Winds will out of the NE all day at 15-20mph.  Overall...it'll be a beautiful autumn day down the shore!

I'm Back!

Mornin'!  It's 58° in Wildwood.  I'm back after having a relaxing, lovely weekend away at our oldest longtime friends' home 4 hours away near Reading, PA.  Luckily we left the winds, rain and seashore chill for blue sky and warming sun for a couple days.  Shows what 4 hours apart can do for weather.  At the moment in Wildwood... it's currently cloudy with very light breezes.  The sunrise was obscured this morning with these heavy bad boys filling the sky.  We're supposed to see the sun today though as it'll be partly sunny/partly cloudy (your choose) with temps in the mid-upper 60's and breezes out of the NE at 14-18mph.  Tonight...back into the 50s under clear skies.  It's good to be home although the suitcase is once again empty awaiting the repacking for Key West a week from today!

The "Punch" continues

Mornin'!  It's 65° this Friday morning.  The Nor'easter is still packing a punch as the winds continue to wail at 25-35mph sustained + gusting out of the you guessed it...E-NE.  It's raining sideways.  A Coastal Flood Advisory is posted again.  Chances are we may see a thunderstorm or two today as well.  It'll be rainy and windy today and throughout the weekend I'm sorry to say.  I'm hitting the road for a little holiday weekend get-a-way (Harrisburg area) and getting away from these relentless freight-train winds which will continue throughout today, tonight and tomorrow and possibly still be kicking up Sunday.  I'll be taking a "blog break" as well as our friends and I prep for our trip to Key West for the Fantasy Fest in 10 days!!!The rain is expected off and on the weekend as well.  Oh...the Hydrofest in Wildwood Crest was postponed this weekend.  Nothing yet on the Cape May Wine Fest.  It's a "good book"weekend while the Punch of this Nor'easter continues.

Advisories and Warnings Posted

3rd & JFK - North Wildwood
Mornin'!  "Whew" is the first word that comes to my mind this early morn.  Wildwood's in the midst of a Nor'easter.  The gale force winds have been relentless since yesterday afternoon.  At the moment, they're wailing and loud and shaking things up...my house for one.  The canvas awnings, trees and outdoor plants have been getting slammed since early last evening.  It's 60° in Wildwood under cloudy, rainy and extreme windy conditions. Nor'easters like to shake things up a bit and this one's no exception.  We've already begun to see some serious beach erosion here.  Gale Warnings are posted as Winds are out of the E-NE at 25-30mph sustained +gusting.  Winds-are-a-howling and moving down the street sounding much like a freight train.  No tidal flooding at the moment, but from 11-4 today a Coastal Flood Advisory will be posted.  The bad news is...it's continuing throughout the entire holiday weekend.  Oh well...Mother Nature always has the last word!

Gale Warnings

Mornin'!  It's 62° in WW.  It's still dark this early morn with winds blasting in from the NE at 30-35mph w/gusting (reports of 40knots).  A couple potted plants were overturned on the back porch this morning.  The clouds are breezing around the clear, starlit sky and will eventually take over most of the sunshine and could bring the rain later  (40% chance of showers today with 100% chance tonight).  It's not looking too promising for sunshine today or for the rest of the week including the weekend for that matter.  Seems to be rain in the forecast for days ahead.  Today, the gale force winds will steal the show as it'll be without doubt a bad hair day.  Temps will be in the mid-60s and tonight back down into the mid-50s as it rains down.  I'm keeping an eye on the weekend as it's not only a long holiday weekend but it's the Cape May Wine Fest (one of the best Fest of the year if you like wine that is).

Mornin'!  It's 56° in Wildwood.  The sky is clear and starlit.  Obviously the air's cooler than it's been and feels more autumnal.  It's nice actually.  Great sleeping weather as it felt too comfy to get out of a cozy bed this morning.  It'll be partly to mostly cloudy today as we get underway with clouds rolling in along with a 20% chance of rain showers.  Winds will be out of the NE at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow looks like there could be a bit more rain in the forecast.  Tonight...temps drop back into the 50s with clouds sticking
around.

Mixed Bag

Mornin'!  It's 69° under clear skies this starlit, breezy, humid morn in Wildwood.  There should be a nice sunrise today.  Today's a mixed bag as it'll be sunny and pleasant the first half of the day and by dinner time...the winds pick up (S-SE at 20+mph) bringing with it clouds and rain and scattered thunderstorms (60%) chance.  Could be cloudy and periods of rain off and on right up until Thursday as a couple forecasts I've checked reported the possibility of rain throughout this week.  Remains to be seen I guess.  I'll just keep reflecting on a what a beautiful summer-like weekend it was!  Who knows, there could still be some more Indian Summer days left under Mother Nature's sleeve!

Keep enjoying the calm before the storm

Mornin'!  It's 66° under starlit skies. It's calm as breezes haven't entered into today's picture yet.  They're coming though.  It'll be in the mid 70's and mostly sunny with breezes commencing from the South at 15-20+mph.   I'll say one thing, yesterday was off the chart with very warm summer-like conditions; sweat on the brow for sure.  At least until late afternoon when the dense fogged roll in right off the ocean cooling things down instantly and chasing most of us off the beach.  It is "fog" season as the Spring and Autumn seem to bring with them some thick, chilly, fog which is very neat.  Today...I'm thinking the breezes will keep the wet brows at bay.  For the most part, a nice day down the shore.  Enjoy as the rains are coming and will check in tomorrow throughout overnight on Monday into Tuesday.

The Jewel still sparkles

Mornin'!  It's a balmy 68° in Wildwood as the Jewel of all seasons continue this first weekend in October.  That temp is what my back deck thermostat reads and that's what it reads on August mornings for the most part.  We're in the thick of a pleasant Indian Summer as of late and it's just perfect on the island. The last of the stars have just disappeared this early morn.  Ms sun's due up in less than an hour however, there's thick cloud cover along the horizon making today's sunrise shot even more interesting.  Skies are clear for the most part though.  No breezes as it's very calm and quiet.  It'll be sunny with breezes off the ocean (East) at 8-10mph and temps in the mid-70s.  Tonight...back into the 60s and tomorrow almost a repeat of today except breezier.  This weekend on the island is jammed packed with events.  Check yesterday's blog.

And the great weather keeps on coming!

Mornin'!  My grandbaby is 2 months old today! It's 67° on yet another clear, starlit morn in WW.  There's not much in the line of breezes either.  Just a quiet start to another gorgeous day down the shore.  It'll be sunny with temps once again tapping the 80° mark.  Breezes out of the SW at 6-8mph.  The weekend's looking pretty much like a continuation of this week!  There's still a lot happening on the activity calendar for the weekend.  Morey's Fears Terror on the Boardwalk; Fall Thunder with Motocross races on the beach; Seafood Festival on Atlantic Ave.(Wildwood) ; NJ Beach Buggy Classic Surf Fishing Tournament; Ride To Rebuild as the Bikers once again help out with a fundraiser for the Children's Fresh Air Home (North Wildwood); and The HydroRest (Speedboat) Races (Wildwood Crest).  And, let's not forget it'll be some very pleasant beach days!  Life is good in WW!

Mornin'!  It's 66° in balmy Wildwood.  Once again, the sky is clear and starlit.  There's no breeze.  It's quiet.  I should just cut and paste yesterday's blog entry.  Same old; same old.  I'm not complaining as the island's enjoying some perfect Indian Summer weather this entire week.  So far, it's looking like it'll continue right into the weekend.  The Sun's due to rise in a half hour or so.  It's looking like another beach day as temps tap the 80° mark with breezes light from the N-NE and shifting later from the E-SE all at 5-8mph.  Although it's a sunny forecast, there's some cloud cover today.  Some forecast say "light, high" clouds mixed with sunshine.  All in all...another lovely day down the shore!

The Jewel's still sparkling!

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood.  The Government shut down has affected my weather blog!  The following link is one of the weather forecasts I check from time to time to compare with local forecasts and when clicking on that link I have bookmarked here's what I got...http://governmentshutdown.noaa.gov/ .
Hopefully the folks managing the government's weather computers are finding their way to our coast for some quality "down the shore" time while off from work.  We're having perfect Indian Summer weather as of late.  It's currently a beautifully, clear, quiet (no breezes), starlit morning in Wildwood.  The sun will shine in less than an hour with temps hitting the 80's as light breezes will wift (I mean waft) over the island from the West at 9-12mph.  No rain in sight as this lovely, blue sky weather continues.  Also, the New Moon is Friday (higher tides than usual).

Hallo Oktober!!!

Mornin'!  Happy October!  It's 58° in Wildwood.  Once again, the sky is dark and beautifully starlit.  Seems when the island has turned off its lights and becomes empty and quiet, the sky becomes vast and black as the stars seem to shine more brightly.  No breezes this morning as it's very still and quiet.  Sun will shine all day as temps are heading to the low-mid 70s.  It'll be a typical Indian summer day as we welcome the start of another new month.  Breezes will be out of the West at 10-12mph.  The weather's been quite sublime in my opinion as this time of year sparkles...you know...The Jewel!
