Nice Ending To June! Until We Meet Again!

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with a light breeze (North 5-10mph).  It's a lovely, fresh morning with the aroma of the sea in the air.  The aroma's in my home too as all the windows have been wide open for the last 4 days. There's nothing nicer than waking from a sound sleep as the sea air surrounded you all night long...very grateful for that.  It'll be lovely today with temps barely tapping 80° with the sun pouring down and breezes switching and seriously picking up from the S-SW at 20-30mph.   Tonight...partly cloudy with a 40% chance of shower and/or thunderstorms developing after midnight with temps in the upper 60s / low 70s and breezes still the same S-SW at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow's looking more grayer than sunny with a 50% chance of scattered showers and temps in the upper 70s.  I'll take it as long as Sunday, Monday and Tuesday continue to look like keepers...sunny and pleasant.  See you next year June!

Friday Beach Etiquette tips~
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any you see whether it's yours or not.     Note trash and recycle containers as The Wildwoods do recycle. (I'm happy to say that I recently saw a gentleman walk a fairly good distance from his beach camp site to a used site left with litter and pick up someone else's trash.  Very happy to witness that as that trash would have been taken out to the ocean by the breezes and high tides!)
~Don't forget those cigarette butts...collect and trash them (or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air). Never stick them in the sand and leave them...that'll be tomorrow's find for the little kid digging in the sand.  Plus, cigarette filters take years to decompose and could be taken to the ocean by the tides giving sea life harmful/toxic cigarette filter tidbits to swallow.
~Remember to pack headphones (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music blaring from your boombox).  Big boomboxes are not welcomed on the beach.
~Kindly give your neighbors space when selecting your beach site. Careful not to plop down in others personal beach space.  Courtesy is key.
~Teach children beach etiquette. Running nearby others and kicking or throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it.
~Playing ball, frisbee, corn hole, and kite-flying etc on the back side of the beach (dune side), not near beachgoers (the beach patrol will usually stop you anyway if you're in the wrong area.)
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express emotion when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls.  Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the beach vultures (gulls) are eyeing beach goers constantly trying to find who's eating and looking for the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times). Once they get you then the havoc begins as 40 other gulls come in for a food fight of your scattered lunch.  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the chips from your bag as well as share your snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~follow posted warnings (closed beaches, rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area etc) and pay attention to lifeguards.
~(hubby suggested this one) If you must use your cell phone on the beach...courtesy would be taking the call away from all the surrounding beach goers and head to a quieter area (dune side of the beach) as again...believe it or not no one wants to hear your phone conversation on their quiet, relaxing beach day.  Happy Beaching!

June's Winding Down Very Nicely

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up along with those milky high clouds but for the most part the sky is clear and she's making her presence known over our island this early morn. No breezes to note.  It'll be another nice one with partly sunny / partly cloudy skies and temps in the mid-upper 70s.  Let's talk breezes...nothing to write at the moment but later...the breezes turn to winds which will get gusty from the South at 20-30mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with some clouds in the mix as temps drop back down into the upper 60s / low 70s with those gusty breezes continuing out of the S-SW at 25-35mph.  For the holiday weekend...it's now looking clear and mostly sunny with scattered showers in the forecast for Saturday night.  It looks like we're good to go with sunshine, low humidity and temps in the upper 70s / low 80s.  Nothing like last year's Tim McGraw rainy extravaganza.

Perfect Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under clear skies as Ms Sun's up.  Very light breezes out of the North at 2-3mph are blowing across the island.  It's another lovely way to begin your day.  It'll be nice down the shore with temps in the mid-upper 70s and plentiful sunshine with breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid 60s and breezes out of the S-SW at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...key word..."breezy".  At this point the weekend's looking 50-50 with Saturday being the nicer day.

Mix of Sun and Clouds

Mornin'!  It's 67° in partly cloudy Wildwood NJ...could make for a beautiful sunrise (in a few minutes).  Not much in the line of breezes.  Love mornings like this...quiet and still except for loud, laughing seagulls in the neighborhood.  It'll be a partly cloudy day (20% chance of a passing spritz) with occasional peeks of sun and temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the West-Northwest at 8-10mph.  Tonight...mostly cloudy with some clearing and a 20% chance of a passing shower.  Temps will drop into the low-mid 60s with breezes out of the SW becoming NW after midnight at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow looks to be much sunnier and warmer.
Oh...at this time, the weekend's looking all over the place with a chance of rain here and there.  It's too unsettled to put anything in writing yet. Plus, who likes talking about rain for a holiday weekend.  It's hard to believe the 4th of July weekend is up next.  Summer's about to fly by!

The Hits Keep Coming (West Winds Wafting In Today Though)

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  No breezes to note.  And, it'll be another lovely, pleasant day down the Shore.  We're looking at plentiful sunshine, temps in the low 80's, low humidity, breezes out of the West at 10-15 mph.  Tonight...a few passing clouds as  temps drop back into the mid-60s with breezes out of the S-SW at 10-15 mph.  Clouds roll in tomorrow with a 20% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm.  We're A-OK today though except for those "West" winds.  For those not aware...the green head flies usually come with the West winds.  Green Heads are dumb, nasty flies that find human blood a delicacy.  I'm never without my insect repellant when outdoors and those West winds are on the weather menu (a fly squatter or rolled up newspaper doesn't hurt either as they're a bit slow moving and can be smacked when they settle down to feast on us humans).

Remnants of Cindy coming to Wildwood

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  It's currently sunny and windy (S-SW 15-20mph) as remnants of tropical storm Cindy is interacting with a frontal system heading right for the Mid-Atlantic States as I type.  We could have some major storming with tidal flooding and damaging winds the first half of today.  The doppler seems to indicate that the worst of it is heading North of us.  With that said...expect some thunder boomers and rain and gusty winds this morning passing over the coast as it heads out to sea.  Winds will be somewhere in the vicinity of 25-35mph w/gusting 40+mph as temps head up to the mid-80s.  Once the storms pass through it'll be a mix of clouds and sun and still breezy West 20-30mph.  Tonight...mix of clouds and starlit skies with temps down into the upper 60s with winds out of the W-NW at 5-10mph. Tomorrow...still looking near perfect...plentiful sunshine, light breezes and temps in the low-mid 80s.

FOOTNOTE: After posting the blog, the rains began to fall.  No thunder or lightning but a nice steady, some-what moderate rainfall is watering the shrubbery at the moment.  Good time to check the Webcams!
ANOTHER FOOTNOTE: It's 10a.m. and we've got blue, sunny skies, refreshing breezes, less humidity and what seems to be a very pleasant Saturday morning.  I'm thinking "farmers market".

Key Words: Cloud Cover and New Moon

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining down with breezes barely there out of the North at 2-3mph.  We're supposed to get periods of "off 'n on" rain showers mostly this morning (90% chance) as this lovely sunshine will eventually give way to clouds. The clouds will be hanging out throughout most of the day and evening as passing showers and/or thunderstorms are all around us.  Humidity's up as temps will be in the low 80s with breezes ramping up out of the W-SW at 18-24mph.  Tonight...mostly cloudy (some clearing) with a chance of a passing shower as temps drop into the low 70s and breezes wift (I mean "waft") over us from the SW at 18-25mph.  By the looks of all the forecasts, tomorrow should be windy with showers mostly in the first part of the day.  Sunday...a "keeper" and near perfect.  Oh... "New Moon" is today...remember much higher tides than usual.  Never drive through tide water!

It's Summertime!

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood.  Happy Summer! Today's the first official day of Summer...the most daylight of the entire year.  Wildwood's under cloud cover with rain spitting down lightly.  Not much in the line of breezes.  The clouds will eventually give way to Ms Sun as we're supposed to have generally sunny skies today beginning by late morning / early afternoon.  Temps will be just tapping the low 80s with breezes out of the W-SW at 8-10mph.  Tonight...cloud cover with a 40% chance of rain showers as temps drop to the low 70s with breezes out of the W-SW at 10-20mph.  Now the weekend's looking 50-50 with Sunday being the sunny/warmer of the two days.  Anything can change though.

Last day of Spring

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  It's overcast and still this last day of Spring.  The island got a terrific watering last evening.  We had some awesome thunder boomers/torrential shearing downpours beginning last evening and staying throughout the early morn.  We should see some peeks of sunshine in the cloudy mix today and there's a 20% chance of an occasional shower as temps climb up into the low 80s with breezes out of the W-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...more clouds than clear skies and a 40% chance of occasional rain showers with winds out of the S-SW at 10-20mph and temps in the low 70s.  Tomorrow, Thursday and Friday look like mostly sunny, warmish days on tap but not so much for the first weekend of summer.  Remember...anything can change...like the seasons...Summer's tomorrow!!!

Mornin'!  Happy Flag Day!  It's 76° in sunny Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note.  It'll be another warm one today (not as warm as the past 3 days) but temps should just be tapping the low 80° with a tad less humidity.  In fact the NE 10-20mph breezes which begin later this morning should keep the island feeling refreshing.  There's a mix of clouds in today's forecast with a 20% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm today.  Apparently, the boomers will be spotty but all around us.  Tonight...mid-upper 60s with more clouds and still the chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm (I'll be typing that a lot the next few days).  Breezes out of the E-NE at 10-20mph.  The weekend's looking like a cloudy/sunny mix with those stray rain clouds surrounding our section of the world.

I was blessed this weekend enjoying my first of hopefully many beach days and it was near perfect. What a lovely way to feed your soul and have a nice reprieve before heading back to work.  It almost felt like the "jewel" of autumn on the beach. The beach was not nearly populated as summer time and the ocean water which is cool and in the mid 60s provided the cool seabreezes which was so refreshing over the hot sand and my hot skin. Even though the ocean temp is still very cold in my opinion, many folks were swimming not seeming to mind the chill. This time next month the ocean should be 10° higher.

Friday Beach Etiquette tips are back~
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any you see whether it's yours or not.     Note trash and recycle containers as The Wildwoods do recycle.
~Don't forgot those cigarette butts...collect and trash them (or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air).
~Playing ball, frisbee, corn hole, and kite-flying etc on the back side of the beach (dune side) not near beach goers (the beach patrol will usually stop you anyway if your in the wrong area.)
~follow posted warnings (closed beaches, rip currents, surf board/boogie board area etc) and pay attention to lifeguards.

Thursday Mix of Sun and Clouds (in that order)

Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny!  It's still (no breezes).  It's fragrant (the aroma of the marsh is heavy in the morning air).  It's chilly (I just slipped into my husband's flannel shirt for some added warmth).  We're having a little cool, pleasant, sunny start to the day.  Unfortunately, all forecasts are pointing to clouds rolling in as temps get up into the low-mid 60s.  Enjoy this first half of a sunny, still day as increasing clouds and winds (NE 10-20mph w/gusting) will be rolling in by this afternoon. Tonight...overcast with temps dropping back into the mid-upper 50s and breezes out of the North 10-20mph.  Tomorrow begins a very nice stretch of warmer, summery weather with plenty of sunshine and mid-70 temps...we're talking right through next week!  If you picked next week for your vacation, you picked well!

Mostly Gray Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 57° in Wildwood NJ.  It's gray and overcast, breezy (NE 10-12mph) and very chilly.  It'll be another one of the gray, chilly days with temps in the low 60s with breezes out of the NE at 10-20mph with gusting.  Peeks of Ms Sun are in "one" forecast for later this afternoon...remember her?  My cilantro, parsley, lettuce, dill and impatients are very grateful for the gray, cool weather.  Not so much for me.  But, I gotta watch what I wish for...summer's officially 2 weeks away and there are places throughout the world having some incredibly, intense heat waves. Thankfully not us. Tonight...even cooler than this morning with temps in the low 50s, mostly cloudly with breezes out of the NE 5-10mph. Tomorrow...they're all saying sunshine!  And, the weekend at this point is looking sunny with temps in the mid-upper 70s!
High tide 7:22a.m. and 7:43p.m. (much higher tides due to Full Moon in 2 days)

Temps will drop into the mid-upper 50s with breezes out of the NE 9-13mph.  Sorry to say...tomorrow (maybe even Wednesday) looks like a repeat of today...more gray.  At this time, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are keepers looking sunny and warm.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's a beauty in Wildwood NJ.  It's 69° with blue, sunny skies and not a breeze to note (E-SE 2-3mph).  It's a perfect morning in my opinion.  What makes it even more perfect is hubby's in the kitchen frying breakfast sausages and his yummy home fries (we call them "daddy's taters").  It'll be a pleasant, Spring day with temps in the mid-upper 70s and sunshine on tap throughout the day (some clouds will drift in later today) with breezes out of the South at 15-20mph.  Tonight...more of those clouds roll in with temps down into the mid-60s and breezes out of the S-SW at 20-30mph.  Late tonight...40% chance of showers.  Tomorrow... expect a good watering...rain likely (80% chance).

Partly Sunny Saturday

View from The Surfing Pig (new dockside outdoor bbq bar) 10th and Delaware
Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Blog's a little late (was out and about on the island late last night).  It's cloudy with a 10% chance of a morning shower.  It's still with no breezes to note.  It'll be partly sunny once most of these clouds clear out. Temps will be in the upper 60s-lower 70s with breezes commencing out of the W-NW at 11-13mph.  This afternoon they could kick up even more out of the NW at 20-25mph but it should be sunny most of the day.  Tonight...clear with temps in the low 60s and breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.

Mostly Lovely Today

Wildwood's notorious "fake" palm trees (they're everywhere)
Mornin'!  It's 63° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with blue skies and a light breeze (NE 3-5mph).  It's a very lovely morning.  Once again the seagulls are laughing all around the neighborhood completing the loveliness.  It'll be sunny throughout most of the day with temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the W-NW at 5-10mph.  There's a 20% chance of an afternoon rain shower passing through but only one forecast is mentioning that.  Tonight...clear with temps in the low-mid 60s and breezes out of the West at 8-10mph.  We're back to a 50-50 weekend with tomorrow being the better of the two days as Sunday looks a tad more cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers late in the day.  I forgot to mention yesterday that it was the start to hurricane season.  It runs from June 1st to November 30th.  The hype this year is that it's going to be worse than usual.  NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) predicts 11-17 named storms developing into hurricanes this year with two-four being "major".  In an average season The Atlantic ocean produces up to 12 named storms, six hurricanes with two being major hurricanes.  Preparedness is key.  That's all I have to say.

Welcome June!!!

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  Happy to see June and I know we're all counting on her to bring us fairer, more seasonable weather than May!  We're kicking off this fresh, new month with overcast skies and calmness (no breezes to note).  The seagulls sound very happy to have some nice weather on tap. Even though we're dry this morning, everything is damp from the sea's moisture blanketing the island.  The outdoor plants couldn't be happier.  These current clouds will give way to sunhine today as temps get up into the low-mid 70s with breezes out of the W-SW at 7-11mph.  Tonight...clear as temps drop into the low-mid 60s with breezes out of the W-NW at 4-6mph.  Tomorrow and Saturday look to have the same forecast as today.  Sunday may have a bit more cloud cover but doesn't look like the washout first forecasted.
