Happy New Year's Eve!

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood.  We've got clouds (partial) in the dark, morning sky.  It looks like they could make for a lovely sunrise today as they're drifting at a pretty decent clip toward the ocean.  Yes..."sun"rise!  Ms. Sun's on her way today as we're about to have gradual clearing with a mix of sun and clouds today.  There's is a slight (20%) chance of brief showers this morning, but for the most part it won't be another totally gray, dreary or wet day.  This is the first in 11 days that we won't have a mostly gray, dreary weather day.  Even though the temps have been mild, it's been cloud-covered and "Seattle-like" down the shore for almost 2 weeks.  Temps will stay about where they are this morning...low-mid 50s with NW breezes at 15-20mph.  Tonight...clear with temps getting colder into the upper 30s with breezes out of the NW 9-11mph.  Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday...sunny with mid 40° temps. Nice 2016 kickoff!

A New Year's Eve eve Dreary One

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood.  We're under cloud cover again (what else is new) but dry at the moment. It's much quieter as the winds are light and I can barely hear the ocean crashing. It's supposed to be cloudy and gray all day with 50% chance of off and on showers. Temps will climb up into the low-mid 50s with breezes out of the E-NE at 12-15mph.  Tonight...showers should taper off as fog rolls in and temps stay around the mid-upper 50s.  Breezes will be light and variable out of the E-SE at 7-9mph.  I'm happy to report that starting tomorrow Ms Sun's back and looks to be checked in for a week as it'll look good for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day...and an especially good one for the Mummer's Day Parade in Philly!!! Hopefully, the sun will be adding her warming touch as the temps will be down in the 40s all the while that she's shining down!

Oh What A Beautiful Morning!

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood.  Gordon MacRae's voice singing "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" from "Oklahoma" is in my head for some reason.  The word "terrible" is in place of "beautiful" though.  It's ugly outside. We've got heavy dark cloud cover and just had pouring down hard rain. It's calmed down some and it's actually raining lightly at the moment. We've got noisy "freight train" winds going on coming off the ocean (East) at 15-20mph.  It's loud outside and sounds like I live side by side to rush hour traffic off a highway when in fact it's the wind and surf crashing.  Just amazing.  There's a 100% chance of rain throughout the day today; at times heavy.  Temps will be unseasonable in the mid 60s.  Tonight...possibility of brief off and on showers with breezes out of the N-NW at 12-15mph and temps back into the 50s. Tomorrow...more rain. On a good note...we could very well be seeing sunshine on Thursday plus those higher unseasonable temps seem to be staying checked in this week too!

Start of a Rainy Week

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood.  Brrrr!  It feels cold after 70° temps yesterday.  It's dark, with cloud cover and windy with breezes out of the N-NE at 26-32mph making it feel even more crisp out there.  Don't fret as those 50 and 60 degree temps will be sticking around throughout this week.  Something else about to stick around is rain.  It'll be mostly cloudy with peeks of sun this morning and rain checking in later late afternoon and/or this evening.  Temps will be tapping 50° today but tonight drop back into the 40s with winds shifting from the East at 27-34mph and don't forget those periods of rain.  The rest of the week has rain in the forecast at least up until Friday.  Today...chilly and blustery so once again...hit the coat closet (I can't even believe I'm writing that on December 28th)!

Mostly Cloudy Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood.  We're under cloudy skies again.  Although when I first checked I could barely see some stars and even the Full moon through the hazy, foggy mostly cloudy sky.  Looks like there's a possibility of a nice sunrise if the clouds step aside for Ms Sun for a moment when she crosses the horizon.  Don't get your hopes up too high.
Temps will once again be unseasonable today as we may see upper 60s and even tapping 70° later.  There are no breezes at the moment but SW breezes will wift (I mean waft) in later at 10-20mph.  There will definitely be peeks of sunshine sometime today (probably closer to noon) but there's a 20% chance of a stray shower this afternoon.  Tonight...a 60% chance of showers with temps back into the 50s and breezes out of the W-SW at 15-25mph.  I might as well report that the upcoming week isn't anything to brag about...it's looking like rain throughout the entire upcoming week...at least until Friday.

Happy Day After Christmas!

Mornin'!  It's 56° in Wildwood.  The blog's a bit late due to some sleeping in and holiday company visiting!  It doesn't get any better than that.  Ms Sun just began to shine down through the morning cloud cover.  It's great to see her again as it's been awhile.  It'll be mostly cloudy today with peeks of sun.  There's a 20% chance of precipitation today and into tonight.  Winds are out of the E-NE at 15-20mph.  Temps should stay just about where they are now for today into this evening with winds shifting a bit from the E-SE at a10-15mph.  Tomorrow...more peeks of sun with unseasonable mid 60s+ temps. We're still in that weird, unseasonable weather for our section of the country.  It's all good though!

Merry Christmas!

Mornin'!  Merry Christmas to all!  It certainly doesn't feel like Christmas along the south Jersey shore.  It's an unbelievable, unseasonable 61° under cloudy, foggy, and slightly misty conditions. No breezes to note and it's very still and quiet. It feels mild and nice outside. It's still dark out and with Ms Suns' Christmas hiatus this year and I'm not counting on any sunrise this morning or any of the next few mornings.  We may not even see a peek of sunshine until Sunday afternoon and that's iffy.  Anyway...today on Christmas day it will be foggy and misty until this afternoon when there's a 90% chance of rain showers. Temps will be in the mid-upper 60s.  Breezes will be out of the W-SW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...more rain and ending late (90% chance) with temps back into the mid 50s and breezes shifting out of the NE at 10-15mph.  It's the Full Moon but it's doubtful if we'll see any moon or stars in the sky tonight!  We will see higher tides and minor tidal flooding along with lots of Christmas smiles and happiness!

Merry Christmas Eve

Mornin'!  It's Christmas Eve and it's 61°!  Very strange weather we're having as of late.  I've got windows opened here down the Shore!  It's overcast and mostly cloudy with some peeks of clearing in the cloud cover.  I've checked the radar and it appears a mass of rain clouds is heading right in the coast's direction as I type.  Expect some heavy rain today with downpours (just like yesterday) and of course flooding as the Full Moon is driving the tides up through the streets.  It's still looking like rain for the next upcoming week.  We could see some breaks in the clouds Sunday and Monday but it'll basically be gray, cloudy and a bit rainy till next Thursday. Today will be much like yesterday...a washout.  We had some heavy, steady rains yesterday with street flooding and don't forget the winds.  Let's talk breezes...it's currently breezy out of the S-SW at 20-30mph.  It's one of those days (mornings) when it sounds like your house is on the beach block and the pounding surf is at your front door.  I'm 6 blocks away (not including our extremely wide beach) from that surf.  It's so mild outside right now it feels like a Spring morning. Even the breezes are comfortable (not a bite in those winds). Christmas Eve along the Jersey coast would normally be snowing on a rain event like we're having.  One forecaster said that if all this rain were snow we'd be up to 10" already!  Anyway...we've got us some Portland Oregon weather this week; wet and mild.  Today may tap 70° as it rains into this evening.  Winds will pick up with gusting +36mph.  Tonight...upper 60s with more rain and W-SW winds at 15-20mph.  Santa should have any problems as the tail winds will bring him in!
Merry Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve Eve

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood.  It's damp (no rain though) and misty and foggy with heavy dense cloud cover.  No breezes to note.  The sounds and aromas of the island are intense as you can hear the ocean's roar and smell the surrounding marsh land.  It's quiet and peaceful.  It'll be unseasonably mild today with temps in the low-mid 60s.  It's supposed to rain today (70% chance) with breezes out of the S-SE at 11-13mph.  We may see heavy downpours at times and even hear some thunder.  Tonight...50% chance of rain with temps remaining in the low 60s and breezes ramping up out of the South at 25-39mph.  Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are still looking more on the cloudy/rainy side (slight chance of showers) but not total washouts. In fact...don't expect much sun for the next week as there's a chance of rain in each daily forecast. It's the weird temperatures....mid-upper 60s on Christmas Eve and Christmas day that's certainly the talk of the town this year. Today will be no exception. The Full Moon is Christmas Day so keep those tides in mind as we'll see much higher tides than usual especially with rain in the forecast. Driving through rain water is one thing, but driving through tide water isn't recommended.

It's Winter!

Mornin'!  Winter began at midnight! It's 52°, dry, dark, cloudy and breezy (S-SW 15-20mph).  The sounds of the surf are amazingly loud and clear on my back porch 6+ blocks away from the beach! Rain's likely today (90% chance) with temps way up there like last week tapping (you guessed it) 60° again. It'll be breezy most of the day too...S-SW at 16-22mph.  Tonight...cloudy with occasional light rain and temps down into the low 50 as winds simmer down.  Looks like tomorrow more of the same with thunder and lightning possibly thrown in the holiday mix. Christmas Eve and Christmas day no longer look like total washouts but I'm going with mostly gray days with rain showers for both days and nights; especially Christmas Eve into Christmas Day as rain is forecasted on that overnight for Santa's flight along the coast right into Christmas morning. We may see peeks of sun on Christmas day along with record high temperatures.

"The Winter Solstice" - The Official First Day of Winter

Mornin'! It's 48° in blustery Wildwood.  It's the last day of Autumn as Winter officially arrives tonight right before midnight.  So, enjoy this last day of Fall although it is officially the Winter Solstice.  By the way...daylight begins to grow longer beginning today.  It's currently still dark but clear and starlit with winds stiff and stirring things up out there.  It'll be blustery and gray according to every forecast I've checked.  Temps will get up into the mid-upper 50s with winds out of the S-SW at 22-35mph. We might see peeks of sun mainly early in the day as clouds will dominate the skies beginning later this afternoon.  Tonight...cloudy with a 10% chance of a spritz and breezes pounding the coast from the S-SW at 18-27mph.  I hate to be the bearer of bad weather tidings but it looks a chance of rain all week long in each day's forecast (tomorrow and Wednesday taking the biggest hit of a washout).  Christmas Eve and Christmas look wet but with a less of a chance than mid-week. Speaking of Christmas Day...Full Moon day!

Sunny Sunday and last day of Autumn!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood.  Winter's peeking in this morning.  It's cold and crisp and clear. There's a chilly breezes wifting (wafting) over the island. The stars are still out but Ms Sun's lying in wait as the horizon's beginning to brighten with gorgeous shades of oranges and pinks.  It'll be another clear, sunny day with temps going into low-mid 40s.  Breezes will be out of the W-NW at 14-16mph.  Tonight...temps back down into the 30s as the breezes shift from the S-SW at 13-15mph.  Tomorrow...clouds with higher temps.  Two more days until Winter!

Mostly Sunny Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood.  It's partly cloudy in the starlit sky. Besides the colder, more seasonable temperature, the Winds are the star attraction this morning. Out of the W-NW they're roaring across the island at 33-37mph w/gusting.  It sounds and feels like a high speed train is passing along side my house.  It's cold and blustery.  It'll be like this all day as the winds and clouds hang around with Ms Sun as it's supposed to be a mostly sunny one.  Temps will be in the low 40s.  Tonight...still very windy and clear with temps in the upper 30s and winds out of the W-NW are 28-32mph.  Tomorrow...sunny and a tad warmer and much less winds.

Friday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood.  It's overcast and cloudy with breezes out of the W-NW at 15-20mph.  There's a chance of a shower likely before 9a.m. this morning.  Then, the thick cloud cover will begin to break up and slowly clear out, gradually becoming partly sunny.  Temps should tap the 50° mark while the winds stay checked in.  In fact, tonight the winds will ramp up even more at 29-32mph out of the W-NW as the temps drop down into the upper 30s/low 40s (much more seasonable). The weekend's looking mostly sunny, breezy and chilly with temps in the 40s.

Wet One

Christmas in Cape May, NJ
Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood.  We're under cloud cover with dry conditions at the moment.  Winds are nothing to note.  It's all gonna change though.  We've got 100% chance of a steady rain today with winds out of the S-SE at 17-23mph w/gusting a bit later.  Temps will hover around the 60° mark.  Later into the evening...more rain steady showers (heavy at times) with winds out of the West at 9-11mph and temps dropping into the upper 40s.  This front will be bringing colder more seasonable temps for the next few days and upcoming weekend making it feel like it should this time of year. All forecasters are saying that next week for Christmas we'll have more mild conditions returning with temps in the 60s.  Whatever...it's still 5 days until the Winter Solstice!

Today will be partly cloudy/partly sunny with temps heading up into the low-mid 50s.  Breezes will be light out of the NE.  Tonight...patchy fog with light drizzles.  Temps back into the low-mid 40s with breezes out of the S-SE at 7-9mph.  Still looking like a rainy day tomorrow.

Winter's a week away!

Mornin'!  It's 63 unbelievable degrees!  I couldn't believe how mild it felt when I stepped outside to read the ol' porch thermometer.  It's amazing.  We're having breezy, dry conditions but in the early morning darkness I can see some intense layered cloud cover with cumulous clouds over clouds.  Everything's damp from the overnight rains and morning dew.  It smells nice.  Even with all those various clouds and insulation, I can't hear the surf this morning which is probably due to the direction of the winds (W-NW at 20-30mph).  It'll be partly cloudy and windy this morning with temps in the low 60s.  Ms Sun's supposed to check in this afternoon as the temps drop down into the low-mid 50s and the winds simmer down some remaining out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clear and in the low-mid 40s.  Tomorrow looks like a repeat of today while more rain is on the menu for Thursday.  No freezing temperatures in the near future I'm happy to report even though Winter's officially 7 days away!

Wet and Breezy Monday

North Wildwood Beach - Christmas in July
Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood.  It's still feels mild out there. (Yesterday we unbelievably just about tapped the 70° mark). This morning we have cloud cover insulating us as the sounds of the surf and the waves crashing is loud and clear 6+ blocks away.  There's a sea breeze wifting (I mean "wafting")over the island at 7-10mph.  We may have patchy fog this morning and could possibly see breaks in the clouds as Ms Sun will do her best to rise and shine this morning. The clouds will hold steady and win this one as today looks mostly gray and wet a little later. The temps rise into the mid 60s again. As the day progresses more fog and cloud cover and eventually wind and rain showers check in by this evening (90% chance). Those winds will be picking up considerably out of the S-SW at 28-35 with 40+gusts as the temps will back down into the low-mid 50s. Prepare to have a wet and windy evening.  Ms Sun returns tomorrow though as this unseasonable weather continues!

The Big Story - "The Weather"

Christmas in July Parade - Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's unbelievably 57° in Wildwood.  It's weird out there as this weather we're having is setting new records.  It feels like an autumn morning not 12 days from the Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the year and the 1st day of Winter). Speaking of 12 days...there's 12 days until Christmas which is the next Full Moon. There are no breezes to note which makes it feel even more unseasonable.  With this mild weather as of late, our furnace has been off and with the bedroom windows open during the night, I still found myself sweating during my slumber.  I'm not complaining as this freakish weather is very easy to get used to and like most, I'm enjoying it. Our coast will be back in the 40s by this time next week.  One good thing about returning to the Winter season is it's supposed to do it gradually throughout next week making it not too shocking to our systems.
As for today's weather...it's cloudy and unstirring out there. Everything's covered in dew. You can hear the ocean's roar. You can smell the aroma of the salty marsh. It'll be cloudy with patchy fog to kick off this Sunday.  It should burn off by this afternoon leaving some of those milky clouds.  Temps will be in the upper 60s.  Breezes out of the South at 7-8mph.  Tonight...clouds filtering back in with more of that patchy fog clinging to the island.  Temps down into the low 50s with breezes light and variable (not even noticeable). Tomorrow...80-90% chance of rain (temps will still be in the 60s). Ms Sun's back on Tuesday.

Lovely Saturday

Christmas in July Parade
Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood.  The sky is clear and starlit as Ms Sun's about to rise and shine in less than an hour from now.  No breezes to note yet there is a lovely aroma of the "sea" in the morning air.  There's dew (note it's not "frost") on everything and in the quiet you can hear dripping from all the surfaces.  It'll be yet another lovely day down the shore as temps get up into the mid-upper 60s while the sun shines down and breezes remain light and variable (mostly SW at 5-7mph).  Looks like afternoon clouds will drift in and as the evening approaches temps will drop down into the low 50s.  Tomorrow remains mild but a bit more cloudier than first expected.  Rains are still due in on Monday.

Another Beauty

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood again!  I'm still in disbelief with this end of autumn weather (winter's in 10 days).  When Old Man Winter does decides to make his appearance we're all going to feel like we've been punched in the face with frigid-ness. I'm not losing focus on staying in the moment as it's going to be yet another beauty down the shore. And, I mean "beauty". At the moment it's clear and still starlit with light breezes off the ocean (Southerly) at 5-10mph.  We're having unseasonable warm weather.  Today as well as the weekend for that matter will be no exception.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 60s with Ms Sun pouring down. We might have some patchy (possible dense) fog in the mornings though.  Sunday night will bring in considerable cloud cover as Monday morning will probably be raining.  But the mild temps will stick around way into next week.

The Hits keep on Comin'

Christmas In July - North Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood.  Hubby just got dressed for work and he's going with "shorts" today!  It'll be another beauty...sunny, not much in the line of breezes-NW at 3-4mph and warmish...tapping 60°.  Tonight...back into the low 50s and breezes out of the S-SW at 9-11mph.  We've got gorgeous, unseasonable weather in store.  It'll continue throughout the weekend as each day gets a bit warmer.  We may see some rain Monday.  But, up until then...the weather isn't going to disappoint here at the Shore...enjoy! I'm guessing it's Mother Nature's Christmas gifts a little early.

Lovely Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood.  It's another clear, starlit, crisp morn.  The sea air is strong and the sounds of the surf crashing can be heard loud and clear from my porch 6+ blocks away from the beach.  It never ceases to amaze me.  It'll be another lovely autumn day down the Shore as temps will be in the mid 50s with sun pouring down with a mix of (those milky)clouds in the blue sky.  Breezes will be out of the S at 12-16mph. Tonight...some clouds but mostly clear and starlit with temps down in the upper 40s/low 50s and breezes out of the S-SW at 10-15mph. This lovely Fall weather is staying checked in for awhile...at least through this upcoming weekend!

Nice. Nice. And, more Niceness

Dex in Cape May, NJ
Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  It's lovely outside as it's crisp and a tad wintry.  There are no breezes and the sky...clear and starlit.  The best part...the aroma of "sea" in the air.  Mornings like this are terrific.  It'll be nice today.  The temps will be in the low 50's again with clear, vivid blue skies and light breezes out of N-NW 5-10mph.  Tonight...temps down into the upper 30s/low 40s and breezes still out of the N-NW at 4-5mph. Tomorrow...same but warmer.  Thursday...same and even warmer.  Friday...same and still warmer.  Saturday...you guessed it...same and still warmer yet!  The niceness just keeps on going as we approach Winter (14 days away)!

A Day That Will Live In Infamy!

Christmas in July - North Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  The Philly meteorologist on the little television on the kitchen counter just said it's 34° down the Shore.  Isch don't zink zo!  They never get it right.  It's 41° with no breezes and clear, starlit skies.  Ms Sun's coming and due up in about an hour and a half from now.  It'll be mostly sunny today (could have those milky clouds in the mix today) with temps in the low 50s and breezes out of the W-SW at 8-10mph.  By this afternoon, more clouds in the mix.  By tonight, cloudy with the breezes shifting from the NW at 6-10mph and temps dropping back where they are now...low 40s.  All in all a nice one to kick off the week!  Looks like a chance of rain Wednesday night but other than that...we're doing pretty well with 2 weeks until Winter and this somewhat mild Autumn-like weather staying checked in. And, let's not forget it's 74 years today that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor..."A Day That Will Live In Infamy."

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood.  We've got surfaces that are frosty again this morning as there's a bit of a wintry chill in the air.  Feels about right for the season.  Happy Hanukkah as the week long holiday begins tonight at sundown. So far so good for a lovely first weekend in December.  It'll be another beauty today with abundant sunshine pouring down and temps in the low 50s with hardly a breeze (West at 4-5mph).  Tonight...temps back down into the upper 30s/low 40s with breezes switching direction a bit (SW at 6-7mph) and clear skies. After shopping for this year's Christmas Tree, making some Italian Wedding soup, and decorating the tree, Hubby suggested we grab some hot chocolate and take a drive to Grassy Sound (the desolate marsh road leading to Stone Harbor the next barrier island north of us). So, last night around 10pm we took a drive and pulled to the side of the road to see the meteor shower and what a show! We actually got to see shooting stars in the intense darkness. On the drive back home...we got to see another show as it was obvious my island neighbors took advantage of this mild weather to decorate and display their holiday spirit with lovely decorations. The Season's upon us.  Happy Hanukkah!

Nice December Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 39 crisp degrees in Wildwood.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly as she rose almost an hour ago.  Took a bit of an extra hour of sleep in a cozy, seashore cottage this morning.  Count my blessings everyday for that...the extra hour "and" of course the seashore cottage!  There's frost on everything this cold morn but the sun's taking care of that as I type.  No breezes to note and there will be none today or tonight (variable out of the N-NE around 4-6mph).  That's a very good thing for the Elks holiday beach bonfire in North Wildwood tonight.  The Firefighters manning that bad boy (thanks for that by the way) all evening will appreciate the lack of winds tonight.  Also, the Tides are working on the side of the Bonfire Partiers...as the beach party will be at low tide!
Speaking of tonight...The Geminid Meteors (the shooting stars) have aligned for this weekend's peak of the annual Geminid meteor shower: It's arguably the best meteor display of the year — and it reaches its height during the heart of the weekend, late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
This year, the moon is at last quarter during the Geminids' peak. That means the meteors will have a little bit of competition with that little bit of moonshine during the wee hours. But things could be worse. And the long-streaking fireballs that are characteristic of the Geminids should make an impression despite the moon (which thankfully isn't a Full Moon).
Today's weather will be perfectly sunny with no breezes to note and temps in the upper 40s possibly tapping 50°.  Tonight...clear and starlit with no breezes and temps down into the low 40s (possibly upper 30s).  Tomorrow...same as today!

Sunny TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood.  A bit of a chill in the sea air this morning as breezes are a tad more than light and variable...out of the NW at 15-18mph.  It's clear and dark with a lovely starlit sky.  Ms Sun will be warming things up again today with temps tapping 50° as breezes stay checked in from the NW.  Tonight...they shift a bit from the W-NW at 16-19mph as temps drop back into the 40s.  The sky will be clear and starlit again!  18 days until the first day of Winter!

Sunny & Crisp

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood.  The NW winds are wifting (I mean "wafting") over the island at 28-32mph with gusting making for a crisp start to the day.  It's cloudy (what else is new) but that will change today.  Ms Sun's checking in today for several days (at least until Monday evening) and with the low 50° temps today, it should feel like a nice one.  Yesterday we hit 60° and even with the drearies, it felt mild.  The Winds will be the star attraction today and tonight as they'll be providing some bad hair from the NW and shifting a bit later from the W-NW with 35+mph gusts.  Tonight...clear, starlit skies, upper 30s/low 40s with winds still out of the NW at 20-25mph w/gusting. Looks like we're finally in the clear until the wet stuff returns Monday night.

Another Gray Day

Mornin'! It's 55° again in Wildwood (same as yesterday). No breezes but the sounds of the waves crashing is intense this morning.  It's probably due to the foggy, misty conditions and those heavy clouds insulating the island.  It'll be another dreary one as we'll have clouds and showers throughout the day. Temps will be tapping 60° though.  Winds will eventually be out of the South then SW at 10-12mph.  Tonight...they ramp up a bit out of the West at 20-25mph as temps drop back to you got it...55° as those occasional rain showers continue. Ms Sun's checking in tomorrow for a several days!  Happy Birthday to our Son today this blog's dedicated to you!

Welcome December!

Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood.  It's windy with rain coming down.  At the moment, the rain is light but during the night it was coming down at a nice clip.  There's a 90-100% chance of rain today and it could get heavy at times.  Winds are out of the E-SE at 20-35mph w/gusting as temps go a few degrees higher.  It'll be a wet 1st day of December as clouds and showers stay checked in until Thursday.  We could see at least a ¼ of an inch each today and tomorrow.  Tonight...clouds and rain showers with temps in the upper 40s. Might want to think about getting those Wellies out again. It's a great day for the ducks!

See You Next Year November!

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood.  It's dry and overcast with some spectacular clouds (big puffy cumulous over cloudy sky) in the early morning darkness.  The Winds are still up to their "little nor'easter" (E-NE) 20-23mph and are hanging around all day.  Rains are coming later this morning/early afternoon this last day of November (50% chance) as temps go up into the low 50s.  Tonight...more breezes (Easterly at 20-26mph) and rain (80% chance) and temps in the low 40s.  And, it looks like on and off rain up until Thursday. Until next year...adios November!

Last Sunday in November

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood.  Oh...after being spoiled with some perfectly gorgeous Indian Summer weather it's a bit on the dreary side this rainy Sunday morning.  The gorgeous-ness is over. The rain's are coming down at a nice clip.  The winds are doing a little rendition of a mini "nor'easter" off the ocean at N-NE at 15-18mph with some minor gusting.  Looks like a rainy one and it'll probably not even tap 50° today.  Tonight...cloudy with a small chance of sporadic showers and temps in the low 40s with those N-NE breezes continuing at 15-18mph.  We'll probably wake to clouds with more rain coming in by late afternoon tomorrow and again on Tuesday day and night and again on Wednesday day and night.  We may see Ms Sun on Thursday.  She seems to be checked out most of this coming week.  I've got some lovely reflection on this past holiday weekend with my family and of course that perfect summer-like weather we had!  It feels good to be back in the salt air though!

Abundant Sunshine on Thanksgiving Day!

Mornin'!  Happy Thanksgiving!  Many blessings to be thankful for this year.  It's 50° in Wildwood.  I slept in a bit this morning and the blog's a bit late but what a beauty to wake up to!  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  It's quiet with no breezes.  We'll have abundant sunshine today with breezes light and variable out of the W-NW at 3-5mph and temps in the get this...low to mid 60s.  Tonight...clear and moonlit with temps in the low-mid 50s and breezes out of the SW at 10-12mph.  Tomorrow...a repeat of today! I'll be heading up the road a bit for the Feast and will probably take a break from blogging on Black Friday until things settle down. But, today and tomorrow do have almost exact forecasts!  Happy Thanksgiving! Sono Grata!

Thanksgiving Eve - Beaver Full Moon Day

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood.  The sky is clear and starlit and it looks like we'll see another lovely sunrise just about an hour from now.  The breezes are not much to note.  But, there is frost on that pumpkin again.  Actually last night, one of those pumpkins was broke down and baked for the pulp that made what looks and smells like a delicious homemade pumpkin pie for tomorrow.  But since I've mention frost...there is some outside on the surfaces and vehicles.  It's a bit on the wintry side as we kick off Thanksgiving eve and the most highly traveled day.  It's going to be nice along the coast today with Ms Sun shining brightly and breezes light and variable (off the ocean) E-NE at 8-10mph.  Temps will be in the low 50s.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 40s.  Breezes will switch just a bit out of the E-SE at 12-15mph. Keep an eye on an early Full Moon rise as it's rising just about the same time Ms Sun is setting and you might as well keep your other eye on tidal flooding as that Full Moon always seems to bring us higher than average tides.  Be safe if you're one of those traveling today!

Thanksgiving Eve eve

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood.  Feeling a little like winter out there this morning as there's a little frost the pumpkin!  It's just 28 days until the Winter Solstice (the 1st day of winter and shortest day of the year). Our furnace is once again fired up and heatin' the ol' seashore cottage!
It's clear and starlit with no breezes.  It's very quiet with no breezes to note and you can hear the sounds of the surf crashing six blocks away (not counting our enormous Wildwood beach).  Ah...the crisp, sea air...it never fails to cure what ails ya!
It's going to be fairly nice one today as Ms Sun will be shining down brightly and warming us as the temp taps 50°.  By the way, it looks like Ms Sun is checked in until Saturday as the temps creep up a little each day this week.  Today's Winds will wift (I mean waft) over the island later this morning from the SW at 12-14mph.  Tonight...temps back into the mid-upper 30s with Winds shifting from the North light and variable at around 6-9mph. Full Moon's tomorrow and you know the drill...could be some tidal flooding.

November’s full Moon is called the Beaver Moon because it was the time to set beaver traps before the waters froze over. This Moon was also called the Full Frost Moon.
Also, did you know...The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and rotates on its own axis about once for every 27.3 days as it takes to rotate the Earth? And...The Moon is about 30 times the diameter of the Earth as temperatures on the Moon can drop to 250 degrees below zero.

Abundant Sunshine

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood.  It's still dark but the sky is amazingly starlit and so beautiful.  It's blustery and the winds are howling down the streets (N-NW 24-29mph w/gusting). It's feeling wintry and crisp out there.  Chill factor today too...feeling like 29°! Still no heat on but I just turned the gas fireplace on to take that ol' chill out of the house.  It'll be sunny and cloudless today as temps rise a bit to the low 40s.  The winds are hanging out throughout the day and will simmer down by this evening (N-NW 14-17mph) as the temps head back down a bit into the mid-upper 30s.  Tomorrow...much of same but a tad warmer.

52nd Anniversary of the Assassination of John F. Kennedy

Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood.  Fifty-two years ago today is the first day in my life that I felt terror and collective grief as the loud speaker in my classroom announced that "President Kennedy has been shot and killed and you are all dismissed". It was "major" in every way. And, since that day, I've always somehow made it a point to do reflection on November 22nd.
Onto the weather at the seashore...we've currently got breezes (North at 22-26mph) and cloud cover.  Everything's damp and a bit drippy so my guess is we had us some light rain on the overnight.  It's the kind of moisture that just shades the surfaces outside.  Anyway...it's almost daybreak but I'm going with "no grand entrance over the horizon for Ms Sun" this morning. Weird...as all week I thought we were going to have a nice weekend.  Actually yesterday was mostly very nice on the earlier half of the day as I took a nice long walk on the 99% empty boardwalk (today's photos).  Today's looking very "iffy" though as not one forecast I've researched says "sunshine". In fact, showers are likely, mainly before 1pm.  Looks like it'll be mostly cloudy, with a high near 50° or maybe even upper 40s (temps will drop today). It'll stay breezy, with a NW wind at 16 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. It's looking more and more like "another log on the fireplace" kind of day.
Tonight...the clouds begin to check out and it'll be mostly clear with temps in the low-mid (get this) 30s!  And, I'm serious about a chill factor as it'll be breezy, with a North wind 17 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. I'd get the winter parka handy! Oh, and for what it's worth...blue-sky sunny day tomorrow "and" Thanksgiving day (which looks like a 60+ degree day)!

Partially Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  Ms Sun's on the rise and will be crossing the horizon very shortly.  It's breezy and chilly (NE 17-21mph).  A little bite in the salt air this morning!  It'll be a mix of weather today as it'll be mostly clear, brisk and sunny but some clouds are going to slowly filter in as by the afternoon. Winds will have shifted by then from the E-SE at 12-15mph. By tonight and during the overnight...S-SE at 13-18mph with a 40% chance of a shower as temps drop back in the mid-upper 40s.  Tomorrow we may be starting the day with clouds and a leftover shower as Ms Sun tries to break on through and make it a sunny Sunday.  I have to admit this wasn't the forecast I was mentioning this week but weather is sometimes unpredictable and can change very spontaneously.  Looks like a keeper along with a Full Moon for Thanksgiving which will be the focus of my attention this week for sure!

TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood.  It's breezy and crisp as last night's rain clouds are checking out as I type.  The horizon looks like its brightening as the Ms Sun's about to rise and will be shining down all day.  It'll be breezy and chilly today as temps drop down into the low 50s. Winds will be out of the N-NW at 15-25mph.  Tonight...clear with temps just about tapping 40° and breezes out of the North at 14-16 mph.  The weekend...cooler and almost the same as today with a little more cloud cover and even a slight chance of a shower on the overnight Saturday and during the day Sunday (30% chance).  I'm relying on Ms Sun to give us the warmth we need though (my home's heat isn't on yet).  Today though...eh not so bad...another beautiful, brisk Autumn day down the shore!

Blustery and Wet

Mornin'!  It's 61° in Wildwood.  Those ocean breezes (S-SE 23-30mph) are blowing the slightly opened bedroom window curtains straight out and making me happy this early morn. I can hear the surf!   What a great way to greet the day!  It's cloudy and dry at the moment as we're expecting some morning showers (70% chance) any time now.  Temps will rise just a bit into the mid 60s today as steady rains (100% chance) are headed right for the island.  Winds will be stiff and out of the South at 25-41mph.  I guess it would be remiss of me not to mention tidal flooding.  You know you'll see it with the tides this afternoon especially with the autumn leaves and sea grass reeds clogging up the street drains and back flow. The Full Moon isn't until this time next week so we'll have a bit of a break in that regard.
Tonight...remaining windy shifting from the SW at 24-35mph, low 50s and continued showers. The rains will taper off during the night (early morning). Ms Sun should be at the horizon tomorrow morning!

Sun and Clouds this Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood.  It's still dark and starlit with amazing breezes coming off the ocean (SE at 16-20mph) this morning.  The fragrance is intoxicating as nothing's better than waking to that (unless you like the mountain air). We're going to have a mix today with sunshine to start and clouds to finish this hump day.  Ms Sun's due over the horizon in an hour and she'll have her work cut out for her today as it'll be a partly sunny/partly cloudy day as eventually the clouds win out.  Temps will get into the low 60s and those winds...blustery off the ocean (SE at 18-27 w/gusting) will be ramping up even more so by tonight.  Rain's-are-a-coming as there's a 30% chance of rain showers on the overnight tonight.  By tomorrow it'll be rip-roaring as the winds will be off the chart with rain coming down (100% chance).  Don't fret...Ms Sun's back Friday and it looks like she intends to stay checked in for a week!

Not Quite A Repeat of Yesterday

Mornin'!  It's 55° in Wildwood.  Since we're on temperatures...that ol' thermometer won't be getting much higher today as temps are staying in the upper 50s all day today.  It's nice outside as there's a gusty ocean breeze with clear, starlit skies.  After stepping onto the back porch to check the porch thermometer and weather conditions my husband asked "Nice out there huh?"  I couldn't agree more.  I think it's that sea fragrance welcoming the day.   It'll be nice today with mostly sunny skies (some clouds in the mix) and some stiff breezes off the ocean East at 16-22mph (w/gusting) and temps in the upper 50s.  It won't be as warm as yesterday which was an "Indian Summer" day for sure.
Tonight...more of the same with mostly clear (with a bit more clouds in the mix) conditions and temps in the upper 40s/low 50s and breezes out of the East at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...more clouds than sun as rain is on the way tomorrow night and Thursday.  Today's a keeper!

Monday Beauty

Mornin'!  It's 50° in Wildwood.  It's still dark but quiet (no breezes to note), clear and starlit.  Ms Sun's waiting her turn as she prepares for her rise and shine.  It looks like a beautiful autumn day down the shore.  Temps will be in the mid 60s as breeze wift (I mean waft) over us from the W-NW at 5-10mph while the sunshine warms us.  Tonight...remaining clear with temps in the mid 50s and breezes shifting later tonight from the W to the NE at 10-12mph.  Looks like repeat for the next couple days as rain isn't due to check in until middle of the night Wednesday.  Enjoy this one!
