Partly Sunny Monday This Last of July

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 73% with a dewpoint of 65°.  Ms Sun has risen over the horizon along the ocean but it's obscured by this morning's cloud cover.  Winds are out of the NW at 4-6mph.  Expect a mix of sun and clouds today with 25% chance of a rain shower.  Temps will get up to around 80° with SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, moonlit skies as temps drop in the mid-60s and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, 15% chance of a passing shower, temps in the upper 70s and NE winds at 5-10mph.  The Full Moon is tomorrow so the High Tides will be higher than normal.  In fact, there is a "Coastal Flood Advisory" thanks to that Full Sturgeon Moon (the first of two full moons in August) in effect from 6pm this evening until midnight.  Our shorelines, tidal waterways and surrounding areas are prone to flooding and you may see  detours, partial or full road closures. I'd keep my eye on the sky again today just in case you're in the line of those passing showers.  Oh, and I have to bid July adieu since it's her last day... it was a hot month as we had our air conditioner on the entire month (it's still off since yesterday morning by the way), but we made it through with only that major power outage in the intense heat the first week of the month and of course a couple minor street flooding moments. Other than that...  you've treated us well July.  Until next year... see ya on the other side!

Lovely Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 78% with a dewpoint of 63°!  The heat wave has broken.  All the storms have passed through.  We had a major thunder-boomer again last evening and were watered nicely.  Some minor street flooding was happening as well as tree pruning.  It was a "batten down the hatches" evening for sure. I'm happy to announce that I just turned off my AC and I can't remember when the last time I hit the "off" switch and threw open the sash. But, one thing's for sure, it's much cooler outside than it is inside.  And, I can hear those happy birds chirping and squawking everywhere again!
It's sunny and still.  Winds are barely there out of the North at 2-4mph.  We're going to have abundant sunshine today with temps near 80° and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... a few passing clouds with a 15% chance of a rain shower.  Temps will drop into the mid-upper 60s again with W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, 15% chance of a passing shower,  temps tapping 80° and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... mostly sunny, low humidity, temps around 80° and NE winds.  It could be another week before we feel those hot 90° temperatures and high humidity again so throw open those sashes!

Keep You Eye On The Sky

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87% with a dewpoint of 75°.  Ms Sun is shining down and winds are out of the West at 10-15mph.  We had some major thunder-boomers late last night into the overnight with some torrential, tropical downpours watering the island.  No flooding.  It's going to be a bit unsettled today with sunshine early, increasing clouds this afternoon and 40-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms.  Some could be severe.  Temps will be way up there around 90° with W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... scattered storms and rain showers (70% chance) some potentially severe.  Temps will drop in the low-70s and W-NW at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, 25% chance of rain.  Temps will be much cooler at around 80° with North winds at 10-15mph.  If heading the beach today... pack sunscreen, something to anchor that umbrella or canopy as it will be very windy and don't forget that insect repellent as those "west" winds bring the biting flies.

Hot Humid Friday

Mornin'!  Happy Friday!  It's 84° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 92° and it's still relatively early (8:30AM).  Another morning with running off the island for some home purchases before blogging the weather.  This time for a chirping (out of date) smoke detector.  We had to replace 5.  When one starts chirping, they all get replaced especially that it's just under 10 years that they were installed.  They're all hard-wired and needed updating as it had to be addressed immediately (first thing this morning) due to not only the importance of having working detectors but get out early to beat the heat as well as the crowds that are still sleeping. We're in the most crowded part of the summer season (last 2 weeks of July / first 2 weeks of August) and you need to be savvy to the intensity out there especially coming up on a weekend.
So, it's hot out there (and, thankfully cool in here).  Ms Sun's shining.  Humidity's 79% with a dewpoint of 76° and it feels like 92°.  There's barely a breeze with that haze of humid, dank, lack of refreshing air hovering over the island.  When coming over the causeway and returning to the island just now, you could see the intensity of the heat and humidity laying over everything including the ocean.  Winds are out of the West at 5-10mph.  We're going to have record high temperatures today.  Expect a sunny day with temps around that 90° range and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... 20% chance of a stray shower and/or thunderstorm.  Temps will drop into the upper 70s with SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... starting out cloudy, 50% chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon including the potential for severe weather.  Temps will be around 90° again with SW winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... possibly rain until mid-day (12:00 - 1pm) when it will become mostly sunny, much cooler with a high of 80° and N-NE winds at 8-10mph.   Oh... the Full Moon is this coming Tuesday (August 1st) as you may notice the high tides are becoming higher than normal.

And, it's Friday...
Friday Beach Tips...
*Beach Stuff - what to pack... bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent (for the "West winds" that bring biting green head flies), first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings), shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes, a small trash bag to collect any trash you accumulate.
*When setting up your spot (campsite) at the beach, give those around you a little courtesy and be kind as to not to set up too close to them.  It's always amazing to watch arriving folk completely unaware of their actions as they begin setting up their umbrella, blanket and chair only inches away from those folks already settled in and believe it or not, there's no one else yet at the beach except you. It often feels like new arrivals seek out others to sit close to.  It happens more often than not and I have yet to figure out this strange phenomenon. Most beaches are huge (with the exception of North Wildwood).  First Avenue beach has become more popular this year as that beach grows while the JFK Blvd beach shrinks.
*Know your "tide" times.  You can always ask the lifeguard as they will know.  If the tide is at its highest when you arrive, you can set up right at the water line and watch the beach grow bigger and bigger as the tide slips into its 6 hour low tide. It takes 6 hours for the tide to go from High to Low and then turn around and begin to go from Low to High (12 hour total).
*Tips for setting up your umbrella: be aware of the wind direction and wind speed.  On a windy day, take those extra steps to secure your umbrella.  Sand screws or sand grabbers are great for securing umbrellas and it's best to dig a hole first before twisting that screw in and packing the sand in.  Also, a bungee cord attaching the umbrella to your cooler or beach cart works wonders. It's not uncommon to see umbrellas launched by the winds and more often than not into unknowing folks who are about to be impaled by an airborne, out of control umbrella. And, while the entire family is in the ocean not realizing that their umbrella is 2 blocks away. I've seen it happen many times.  Oh... when opening your umbrella... always face the wind as this phenomenon never disappoints as most of the time, folks turn their back on the wind and open the umbrella. Thus... you now have an inside out, uncontrolled umbrella on your hands.
*Beach Etiquette.  When you walk directily next to someone who's laying on their blanket or sitting on their beach chair, your kicked up sand will almost certainly be tossed all over them; especially if it's windy.  Be conscientious of what you're doing. Teach your children courtesy at the beach. Explain that it's not okay to run or chase one another around someone else's blanket or chair.  Wildwood sand is light and extremely fine and is always kicked up and flung. I've seen toddlers who take off running and onto anyone's blanket in their flight path.  Here's a bit of advice for parents of toddlers on the beach (1-2 year olds)... bring a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will be much more enjoyable with those babes surrounded with toys and snacks in their little mesh, private encampment.  I recently saw a young couple of a baby not old enough to walk, dig a round trench about 6" deep and place a piece of plastic (much like a shower curtain) over the 2-3' wide hole and fill it with the ocean water so the babe could be entertained and cooled off in their own little pool.
*Phone use... take it somewhere else.  Working from the beach for all of us to enjoy with you sucks.  Phone calls should be taken as far away from all the hordes of people as possible.  Go to the Dunes.  Trust me, no one wants to hear your conversation.
*If shaking out towels or blankets, be conscious of the wind direction and always shake away from those in the line of your "sand" fire.
*There is "no smoking" of any type on the beach.  Wildwood Crest has a designated smoking area by the dunes.  There's "no smoking" on the boardwalk.  New Jersey has legalized Marijuana and you can smoke it privately on your property but you can't do it in public.  There are no Pot dispensaries in Wildwood.
*For the pooches, there are two dog parks right on the beach.  At 24th and the Beach in North Wildwood and one in Wildwood between Glenwood and Maple on the Beach.  You can walk your dog on the beach but only prior to lifeguards stationed at their posts.  May I suggest NOT bringing your dog's toys/balls to the dog park. Not a good idea at all as 8 other dogs will inevitably charge for your thrown toy.  Dogs must always be on a leash when not in the dog parks.
*If you enjoy music on the beach... remember to pack your headphones.  Believe it or not, the majority of beach folk would much rather listen to the sounds of the surf; not the country twang, heavy metal, bass or hip hop profanity blasting next to them from your Bluetooth speakers.  Sorry... but it's something that happens a lot and it sucks.
*Feeding seagulls is a no-no.  Eat and snack smartly.  Using flailing hands when expressing oneself while holding lunch is a magnet for swooping gulls.  Drop just one potato chip and you'll have seagull havoc.  Eat conscientiously under your umbrella or chair canopy.  Seagulls are vultures and are smart and endlessly eyeing beach goers eating habits.  They're relentless in trying to find the opportune moment to swoop down and pluck lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if you have an unsupervised beach bag with chip bags exposed, they'll think nothing of helping themselves to that bag and will share their newly acquired bag of Lays Chips with all their gulls family and friends while you're in the ocean without a care in the world.
*Playing ball, Frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, kite-flying, ladder toss, spike ball, paddle ball, volley ball, Kan-jam, beach darts etc. are not allowed to be set up and played where beach-goers are camped.  Play back by the dunes where no one is sitting.
*Observe all posted signs and warnings... Beach closures due to weather, rip currents or storms, surfing only beaches, no alcohol or pot, no dogs or pets.  If in doubt, just ask the lifeguards.
*Never leave trash on the beach.  Better yet, pick up any that you may see whether it's yours or not.  There are many, many trash and recycle containers on the beach and surrounding areas.  You might as well use them rather than let all that trash drift off and fly into the ocean for the fish to eat or get tangled in. Remember... whatever the fish eat, we eat too.  Plastic is an epidemic.  Speaking of plastic... New Jersey no longer has plastic bags at stores and shops.  It's now all about bringing your reusable bags to save the planet from those fly-away plastic ones.
*Lastly, be courteous.  Courtesy is key.  Be kind and considerate of all those enjoying this beautiful moment along with you. Keep the profanity at home.  It's a lot of fun being at the beach.  Let's enjoy together. Happy Beaching!

A Hot One Up Ahead

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun just rose over the horizon along the beach.  It's humid... 94% humidity with a dewpoint of 75° and it's a bit breezy... S-SW at 10-15mph.  Expect a sunny, very hot and windy day with temps near 90° and S-SW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Bring a sand-screw or bungee cord to anchor those beach umbrellas.  Looks like it could be an "umbrella sailing" kind of day on the beach.  Tonight... widely scattered showers and/or thunderstorms (30% chance).  Temps will drop to the mid-upper 70s with SW winds at 15-25mph+gusting.   Tomorrow... a mix of clouds and sun with temps in the upper 80s possibly tapping that 90° mark.  Winds will simmer down to around 10-15mph out of the SW.  As for the weekend... both Saturday and Sunday look like mostly sunny days with Saturday being the hotter day (tapping 90°) and Sunday cooling off from the Saturday night and Sunday morning rains.  By Sunday around noon... sunshine with temps around 80° and N-NW winds at 5-10mph.

Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining.  Humidity's 88% with a dewpoint of 69° making it feel like 75°.  Breezes are barely there out of the N-NE at 2-3mph.  We had a good 'ol intense thunderstorm come through last evening around dinner time and it watered us down real good.  Even the beach still has huge rain puddles to trudge through when hitting the beach today.  The seagulls seem to love wading and sitting in them though.  It'll be another perfect beach day with sunny, blue skies, temps in the low-80s and SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the mid-70s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy and windy.  Expect mostly gray skies, gusty winds out of the S-SW 20-30mph.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 80s. Hot and Hazy Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood.  Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 75°.  We're in the soup at the moment as fog has rolled in and is laying on the island.  Winds are out of the South at 3-5mph.
Expect this fog throughout the early part of the morning, then Ms Sun will burn the fog away.  Otherwise, we're going to have a partly sunny, hazy, smokey (some Canadian wild fire smoke is wafting into our area again) day with temps in the mid-upper 80s and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, 15-20% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm is possible with temps in the low-70s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... we could see rain in the morning (40% chance) with a partly to mostly cloudy day, temps in the upper 80s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Thursday... partly sunny, temps near 90° and NE winds at 5-10mph.  There's a 40% chance of a rain shower or thunderstorm.

New Moon Monday

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87% with a dewpoint of 74°.  Feels like 85°.  Breezes are out of the W-NW at 3-5mph.  It's sunny with that dewy haze over the island.  We have a "Dense Fog Advisory" posted until mid-day.  No fog for us (yet) except for all the windows of my house (as well as those homes around me) which are all steamed up from the outside heat and the cooled, air-conditioned inside.  Expect abundant sunshine today with temps in the mid-upper 80s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... a few passing clouds, temps in the mid-70s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, with a very slight chance of a passing shower (15% chance), temps in the mid-80 and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... partly sunny, temps in the low-mid 80s with winds light and variable.  We did finally receive rain yesterday later in the afternoon for a few hours.  No storms, torrents or flooding; just a gentle, steady watering for a few hours.  It's the New Moon today.
High Tide: 8:53AM

Sunset: 8:39PM

There are "Southwest" winds in today's forecast and anything with "West" in the wind direction could bring those biting greenhead flies.  Pack the insect repellent today.

Unsettled Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 91% with a dewpoint of 74°.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  The sky is ominous dark gray. There's a storm brewing around us as I type.  Once again, we received no rain or thunderstorms yesterday or last night.  But, by the look of the sky, my bets are on "storm" as it's knocking on the front door.  In my case... the back door as these storm clouds are coming over the land (the marsh side of the island) and heading right for our barrier island and surrounding areas.  Expect heavy rainfall (at times) today (100% chance) with winds out of the S-SW at 10-20mph and temps around 80°.  Tonight... 25% chance of rain and a cloudy night giving way to clearing skies.  Temps will drop to where they are now... mid-70s with light and variable winds.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps around 85° and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.   There is a potential for heavy rains today and there is a "flood watch" posted as widespread rainfall amounts could be 1-2" with localized amounts of 3-5" in some areas.  These totals could result in flash flooding particularly in low-lying areas.  The New Moon is tomorrow creating even higher than normal tides. Be cognizant of where you drive or park your vehicle.  Don't drive through flood waters!  Be safe!
High Tides: 8:09AM and 8:21PM

Happy Weekend!

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 74°.  Just an fyi... the ideal humidity level is between 35 and 60%.  If the humidity is 93%, that means that the air has soaked up 93% of the moisture in the air and can only soak up 7% more.  It means the air is extremely heavy with moisture and very uncomfortable.  Oh, and the dewpoint... when around 55° feels perfectly comfortable but higher than 65°, that oppressive heat, moisture and heavy air weighs down greatly on the body. Another fyi... when you hear "It's 85° outside, but with the high humidity, it feels like 92°, that "92" is the combination of the actual temperature plus the dewpoint aka the "Heat Index".
Back to the weather... Ms Sun's up and shining over the island.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 3-5mph.  It's a very muggy, humid morning out there with hardly a breeze.  I was wrong on yesterday's weather as it never rained or stormed.  It was a hot, sunny, humid day.  Any storms out there were all around us and wanted nothing to do with us.  We are after all in the "Cape May Bubble".  The Term "Cape May Bubble" is often used to describe situations where predicted rain events or storms have the Cape and surrounding towns in their paths but split, change course or just dissipate leaving our area relatively unscathed while those regions surrounding us experience the full force of the predicted weather event.  The "Cape's" climate and unique location (a peninsula bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay) plays a significant role in shaping our weather.  Also, the Sea Breezes play another crucial role in our "Bubble" phenomenon by influencing weather patterns and storm paths.  While the Cape's Bubble may not be a physical shield warding off severe weather, the unique combination of geographic location, sea breezes, and atmospheric conditions often influences our weather making it seem distinct from the rest of New Jersey.  Our local geography has a significant impact on our weather.  Now, that I've made that clear and covered my butt for the wrong weather yesterday, let's try it again for today and tomorrow.  Today will be a mix of sun and clouds (more clouds in the afternoon).  There's a 20% chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorms.  Temps will be in the mid-80s with Southerly winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 60% chance of rain including thunderstorms.  Temps will drop into the mid-70s with South winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... 70% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms, temps will be in the mid-80s with South winds ramping up at 10-20mph +gusting.  Sunday night... 40% chance of rain, temps in the low-70s with South winds at 5-10mph.  Monday... patchy fog to kick off the week with a sunny day once the fog burns off.  It'll be hazy, hot and humid with temps near 90°. There's a "Flood Watch" in effect from midnight tonight until Sunday night. Some of these predicted storms could result in rains of up to 5" creating flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas. And,  Monday is the "New Moon" which mean basically, no moon to be seen.  But more important it affects our tides exactly as a Full Moon would.  If by chance, we do get the rains that are in this weekend's forecast and this New Moon is on tap... prepare yourself and be aware of localized street flooding.  Be cognizant of where you drive and park your vehicle.  The Jeeps have invaded Wildwood as The Jeep Invasion is happening this weekend as well as the renowned "NJ State BBQ Championship and Anglesea Blues Festival" is cooking up some great grub and music in North Wildwood!  Have a happy and safe Weekend!

Unsettled Friday Weather

Mornin'!  It's 79° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 81% with a dewpoint of 72°.  Breezes are out of the SW at 3-5mph.  It's cloudy and heavy outside as it feels like you could cut that moisture in the air with a knife.  It looks like we're not going to see Ms Sun today as rain's-a-coming... well, maybe.  There's a 80-90% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms today.  Some storms could produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy rainfall.  It'll be cloudy with temps in the upper 80s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... 50% chance of rain with partly skies after midnight and temps in the low-mid 70s with S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... mostly cloudy early becoming partly cloudy later, temps in the low-mid 80s with Southerly winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... partly cloudy with 60% chance of scattered showers and/or thunderstorms.  Temps in the mid-80s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday night... 40% chance of rain and/or thunderstorms, temps in the mid-70s with West winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... partly sunny, temps in the low-mid 80s with Southerly winds at 5-10mph.

There's a lot going on this weekend rain or shine!
And, it's Friday!
Walking right next to someone with your flip-flops or sandals on, throws sand all over those in the line of your fire.  Be conscientious of what you're doing. Teach your children courtesy at the beach. Teach them not to run or chase one another around someone else's blanket or chair.  Wildwood sand is light and extremely fine and inevitably is always kicked up and flung.

Hot Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 79° in Wildwood.  Humidity's low at 71% with a dewpoint of 69°.  Winds are barely there out of the West at 3-5mph.  Ms Sun's got the burner on as today will be in the mid-upper 80s with plenty of her rays hitting the island big time as the heat index feel like the low-mid 90s.  We might see some afternoon clouds with SW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear to partly cloudy, temps around 75° and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... generally a sunny day with some clouds in the mix.  Temps will be in the mid-80s with Southerly breezes at 10-20mph.  Friday still looks iffy with lots of passing showers and/or thunderstorms throughout the day and evening (60% chance), temps around 80°.  Saturday looks mostly cloudy, peeks of sunshine and 25% chance of rain with temps in the low-80s.  Sunday... scattered showers and/or thunderstorms with 60% chance of rain and temps around 83°.

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly through the deep blue sky.  No clouds this morning.  Humidity's down a bit at 86% with a dewpoint of 67°.  Breezes are barely there out of the North at 2-5mph.  It'll be a stunner today with abundant sunshine, temps in the mid-80s and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear skies, temps back to where they are now (low 70s) and SW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... almost a replica of today.  Sunny skies, temps in the mid-upper 80s and SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Thursday... partly sunny, temps in the mid-upper 80s with rain due in on the overnight.  Friday... waking to rain and unsettled weather all throughout the day.

Partly Cloudy - Partly Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 88% with a dewpoint of 68°.  Winds are out of the NW at 5-10mph.  Ms Sun is buried under the morning cloud cover. We had a nice watering last night from passing thunderstorms and it's still feeling damp outside.  The streets got a bit on the flooded-side with those downpours.  And, of course those fast moving vehicles traversing through the flood waters provided considerable wakes that pushed the flood waters all over my neighborhood streets and sidewalks.  For the start to this Monday, expect cloudy skies with partial clearing sometime later this morning.  There's a 15% chance of a passing stray shower and/or thunderstorm but it'll eventually clear as Ms Sun will begin peeking through these clouds sometime later this morning or afternoon. Temps will be in the mid-80s with NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy skies giving way to mainly clear skies.  Temps will drop to where they are now... low-70s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mainly sunny, temps in the mid-80s and NW winds becoming SW at 5-10mph.

Temps will hover around the 80° mark with SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... still cloudy, rain and/or thunderstorms likely with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely (80% chance).  Temps will drop into the low-70s with South winds at 5-10mph.  We may see gusty winds with some of those passing storms tonight.  Tomorrow... gray start with 30% chance of a shower or two in the morning and possibly peeks of sunshine by the afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-80s with W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tuesday... sunny, mid-80s and light breezes. It's the Weekend!

last night's Boardwalk power outtage
Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 74°.  Ms Sun's trying to shine through the hazy sky.  We have power!  For those not in our "electric conundrum", Wildwood's electric substation had a fire at one of its transformers causing an entire island power failure around noon yesterday.  Crazy as it sounds, I was enjoying my first beach day of 2023 when all this was occurring.  I got an alert on my phone from my Cable company that electric will be restored as soon as possible. We came home from beach around 3pm to a somewhat still cooled house (we always shut blinds, curtains etc. when it's hot outside and air conditioner is on). Hubby immediately went off the island to retrieve some ice as I gathered candles for the night shift.  We did a little grilling,  hunkered down like the rest of the folk here and relaxed outside on a beautiful, very quiet summer evening.  The sea breeze was fantastic.  The quiet was jaw-dropping.  Fast forward to around 7:30pm last night and thankfully our power came back on.  Unfortunately it wasn't to be for many here.  In fact, there are still about 8,000 homes without power as I blog.
Today's weather... a mix of sun and clouds, a slight possibility (25% chance) of a stray shower or thunderstorm this afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, still a chance of a shower or thunderstorm and temps down into the low-70s with South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... starting out cloudy then looking wet with 60-70% chance of rain.  There's a potential for severe thunderstorms.  Temps will be in the low-80s with S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... unsettled with mostly cloudy conditions with the possibility of on an off rain showers.  Temps in the low-80s with W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tuesday... perfection.  Blue skies and warm temps.

Happy Friday!

Mornin'! Happy Friday!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 73°.  Ms Sun's up and the island has that morning golden glow.  It's warm and humid out there.  I just watered the garden and it's quiet and still except for the island birds who seem to be delighted with the warm humidity.  Breezes are out of the S-SW at 1-2mph (if you want to even call that a breeze).  I'll be partly sunny today.  Some clouds and even patchy fog is expected this morning.  Otherwise, a partly sunny day with temps in the low-80s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 30% chance of an isolated shower and/or thunderstorm.  Temps will drop into the low-70s with Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mostly to partly sunny with temps near 80° and light breezes.  There's a 15-20% chance of a shower or two.  Sunday... 60-70% chance of rain with temps in the low-80s.  Sunday night... rain still in the forecast with the possibility of storms.

Here's my First of 2023

Friday Beach Tips...
*Beach Stuff - what to pack... bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent (for the "West winds" that bring biting green head flies), first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings), shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes, a small trash bag to collect any trash you accumulate.

Full "Buck" Moon Monday

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly over the island.  Humidity's 87% with a dewpoint of 74°.  Winds are out of the SW at 5-10mph.  It's a warm one this Full "Buck" Moon Monday.  The reason it's the "Buck" moon is July is the month that the Bucks (male deer) begin to grow their impressive antlers.  This truly magnificent sight is a fertility symbol.  Just an FYI.
As for the weather... it's almost as though whatever I research and then report truly doesn't matter as my recent weather blogs haven't been holding up to what the pros are reporting to us.  All these percentages for rain due in for the past 3-4 days, have been 100% off as of late.  We've received no rain.  None.  Forget what I had said.
For what it's worth... today's weather will be a mix of sun and clouds giving way to cloudy skies by this afternoon.  There's a 25% chance of rain possible later.  It'll be our first really warm day with temps in the mid-upper 80s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... 70% chance of precipitation but I wouldn't bet on it.  Rain is supposed to come on the overnight with the potential for severe storms (whatever).  Temps will drop to the low-70s with SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the mid-80s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Their saying 30% chance of rain for the 4th.  I'm saying not gonna happen.
A couple of things... I haven't watered the garden since Saturday morning and neither has Mother Nature (as predicted each and every day) so that's on my to-do list today  Also, I'm very grateful for my air conditioner as it's been on since Thursday.  It was mostly to keep the quiet inside my home as I insulate myself against the neighborhood Weekenders (and very LONG weekenders this particular weekend... Thursday until Wednesday). Those Holiday Hordes have invaded this sleepy little island as they come to celebrate the 4th with loads of fun including fireworks, loud parties, music (with outdoor DJs), crowded patios, porches, driveways, loads of light pollution (obnoxious outdoor lighting aimed at my windows), crowded over-parked streets (lots of illegal parking mostly in the yellow line-no parking areas), golf carts everywhere (that's the newest craze here now along with their backup beeping) and basically just trashing our streets (trash and beer cans everywhere along with dog shit that they do not pick up).
Okay... enough.  I've done my rant.  Only 65 days until Labor Day!
