The Last Of Them All

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood NJ and the last day of the year!  This is the last blog of Wildwood weather for 2018!  We're under gray, cloudy skies with very light breezes out of the SE at 5-7mph.  It'll be a kind of drab morning with peeks of sun at least until mid-day.  Temps are going to rise as clouds take over and the rains come today... upper 40s / low 50s.  Expect more rain this afternoon as winds commence out of the E-SE at 13-15mph.  Tonight...low-mid 50s with rain and winds out of the South at 20-25mph + gusting.  Tomorrow... mild temps... upper 50s / maybe low 60s with lots of cloud cover and peeks of sun and plenty of wind... W-NW 20-25 +gusting.  Happy New Years Eve! Until next year... see you on the other side!

Last Sunday of the month and year - Some clouds to start and sunshine to finish

Hereford Lighthouse - North Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  We're currently under cloud cover with light breezes out of the North at 5-7mph.  Seems like it'll be a cloudy start to the day with sunshine expected later.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 40s with winds out of the W-NW at 5-10mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy skies with temps in the upper 30s / low 40s and winds out of the SE at 2-4mph.  Yesterday was Spring-like with warm sunshine, no breezes, and temps in the mid-50s.  That was a really nice one and we just may have a repeat for New Years Day as temps are supposed to be in the mid-upper 50s with partly sunny skies; could be blustery though.  Today...10° cooler than yesterday and not as sunny. Tomorrow looks like rain by late morning / early afternoon right into the early hours of New Years Day.

Mostly Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under almost clear skies (some haze and mist are in the mix) with no breezes to note.  It's actually nice outside with those mild temps and stillness.  It makes you want to just stay there and absorb the somewhat salty thick air.  It'll be a mostly sunny day once the morning clouds give way to Ms Sun with temps in the upper 40s / low 50s and breezes out of the N-NW at 10-20mph.  Tonight... temps in the low 40s, partly cloudy and breezes out of the NW at 7-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, lower temps (upper 30s) and light breezes.

Miserable Friday

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining.  It's windy... winds are out of the South at 20-25mph.  It's perfectly miserable outside even with those milder temps.  It'll be perfectly miserable throughout the entire day with winds and rain.  In fact, there's a "gale warning" posted as the winds will ramp up even more out of the S-SW at 25-35mph +gusting.  Temps will rise a couple notches (high in the mid-50s) with 100% chance of rain.  We could get over an inch.  Tonight...cloudy with partial clearing and some fog and mist in the mix as temps drop to the mid-40s with W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... not too shabby with partial sunshine and temps in the mid-upper 40s as the winds will be significantly calmer.  Sunday... cooler and cloudier.

FOOTNOTE: It's 12:00 noon and I just walked the pooch as we've had a reprieve of the rainfall.  It's a "facial" kind of day as it's windy and soaking and raw out there.  Feels great on the skin as the wet wind sloughs your complexion; makes you breathe deeply through your nose as it gives the sinuses a salt-fix.  I just returned and inventoried my fresh veggies and decided it's a perfect day for soup.  I'm about to make vegetarian minestrone soup.  Not such a miserable Friday after all!

Pleasant Winter's Day

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note.  It's clear, starlit, moonlit and quite a beautiful morning out there.  Ms Sun's due up in about a half hour. The Harbor (I have a bit of a partial view from where I sit) could have a very thin glaze of ice on it much like yesterday as there is a wintry bite in the air.  I didn't realize the harbor was icy yesterday until I walked the pooch later in the morning. It was mostly melted though but a surprise to see the leftover melted ice floating around.  It'll be a repeat of yesterday with plentiful warm sunshine and light breezes out of the E-NE switching to E-SE all at 7-10mph beginning later this morning.  Temps will be in the mid-40s.  Tonight... clouds roll in as there's a 50% chance of rain showers beginning around midnight. Temps will stay in the low-mid 40s with breezes out of the SE at 13-20mph.  Tomorrow... rains and winds with much milder temps (low-mid 50s) are checking in and by the weekend will clear out giving us a mostly mild sunny but blustery Saturday and a partly sunny, calmer Sunday.  Today though... a pleasant winter's day.

Boxing Day (aka St. Stephen's Day)

Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ.  I researched what "Boxing Day" means and it has many meanings.  Too many to mention on this blog.  The one I like most though is that today refers to a nautical tradition when great sailing ships set sail on this day with a sealed box on board containing money for good luck.  If the voyage was a success, the box was given to a priest who opened it at Christmas giving the contents to the poor.  Today's weather will almost be a repeat of yesterday.  Ms Sun's about to cross the horizon and give us more of a sunny day than yesterday with temps in the low 40s.  There are no breezes to note but will eventually come from the NW at 9-11mph.  Tonight... temps in the upper 30s with clear skies and breezes out of the West at 7-9mph.  Tomorrow...another repeat happening as it'll be pretty much the same as today.  Happy Boxing Day!

Christmas Day!

Mornin'!  Merry Christmas!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under clear (still moonlit skies) with Ms Sun about to rise and shine. She's begun to paint the sky with an array of pastel colors right along the horizon as she peeks in.  No breezes to note although they're very light and out of the NW at 2-5mph.  It'll be a mostly sunny start to the day (clouds come later) with temps in the low 40s and NW breezes at 10-15mph.  Afternoon clouds will filter in making it a mostly cloudy afternoon.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the low 30s and breezes out of the NW at 5-10mph.  Overall...a pleasant Christmas Day.  It'll be a bit more sunnier and less breezy tomorrow by the way.  Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  Merry Christmas Eve!  The Family's been here and the blog's been placed on that back shelf with the Elf!  I'm happy to report it's sunny and bright in Wildwood this Christmas Eve morn.  The sky is clear and Ms Sun's up and shining down on us.  Lots of blessings shining down on us today! It'll be a pleasant day with plenty of sunshine and temps around where they are now...low-mid 40s.  Breezes are light at the moment (hardly noticeable) and will ramp up a bit from the W-NW at 12-15mph.  Tonight...mostly clear (some clouds in the bright moonlit sky), with temps in the mid-upper 30s and breezes still out the W-NW at 12-15mph.  Tomorrow... almost the same as today but a tad cooler.  Happy Christmas Eve!

Blustery Saturday with a Full Moon

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a bit cloudy with Ms Sun rising over the horizon as I type. She's coloring the sky and clouds with her artistic beauty that's for sure.  It's windy with NW winds at 16-22mph.  It feels like 34° with that windchill.  It'll be a windy and blustery day with some clouds and partial sunshine and a high of 48° (feeling like 39°).  Winds will be out of the W-NW at 23-35mph +gusting.  It's the first Full Moon of Winter (Spring is 88 days away by the way) and those high tides will definitely be higher than normal.  Tonight... clear with temps around 33° and West winds simmering down at 14-17mph.  Tomorrow will be another sunny day with much less wind than today.  Sunday night on the overnight... it's looking like we might get some rain and even snow showers.  Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look sunny and blustery.

Winter's Here!

Christmas in July - North Wildwood NJ
Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood NJ.  The Winter Solstice is today!  It's the shortest day of the year as daylight finally begins to grow longer with each passing day!  We're receiving some light rain over the island at the moment... cloudy and gray and wind-driven.  Winds are stiff out of the South at 15-20mph +gusting.  No flood sirens blaring or flooding in the streets and we made it through the last high tide unscathed.  I think we're out of the woods with island flooding today.  Expect periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm or two today (before 2p.m. and again after 4p.m.).  Temps will rise and tap 60°!  It'll stay breezy throughout the day and night and right into tomorrow with Southerly winds at 18-25mph (gusts up to 35mph).  Tonight... cloudy with a slight chance of showers and temps in the low 40s and still very windy (S-SW at 20-30mph +gusting).  Tomorrow... Ms Sun returns along with those gusty winds staying checked in.  Happy Winter Y'all!

Wind Advisory and Flood Watch Posted This Last Day Of Autumn!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a little frosty outside again this morning.  We're under partial cloud cover which is making for another one of those spectacular sunrises.  Ms Sun is a providing the clouds a kaleidoscope of color right along the ocean's horizon.  Everywhere else, the sky looks kind of ominous and gray.  No breezes to note... but strap in as they're coming and coming with a vengeance.  It'll probably be Autumn's way of hightailing out of here as a Coastal Storm is pushing Fall out and bringing the Winter Solstice tomorrow (the first day of Winter, as well as the beginning of the hours of daylight growing longer).   Today... expect the cloud cover to bring rain showers beginning this afternoon (80% chance) as temps rise into the low 50s (no typo).  By this afternoon, winds will become blustery out of the E-SE at 10-20mph. Tonight...very windy (SE 25-35mph +gusting), areas of fog, 100% chance of rain with temps still trying to tap 50°.  Let's talk "rain"... as there's a regional wide threat of heavy rains creating the possibility of moderate Tidal Flooding (flash flooding rain amounts could reach 4") especially tomorrow afternoon as the rains will be continuing right through into tomorrow night.  This weekend's Full Moon will also be helping these certain upcoming floodwaters advance over the island; the gusting winds will too.  There may also be minor wind damage.  They'll certainly create hazardous conditions for mariners.  Be aware of the high tides.  Remember too that the ocean high tide is an hour before the back bay (marsh side of the island) high tide.  Secure outdoor stuff.    Move vehicles to higher ground.  Don't drive through tidewater (it does major damage to the undercarriage of your vehicle).  Remember what I posted yesterday about the best way to enter and exit the island when flooding's an issue.   Hunker down and play it safe. This weekend (with the storm behind us) will be mostly sunny (and still windy) with temps in the upper 40s. Until next year Autumn, C'est la vie!

Last Nice One Of Autumn

Mornin'!  It's 29° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note making it feel just like 29° outside this morning... nice and crisp.  Everything's covered in a layer of white frost.  Ms Sun will take care of that as she's crossing the horizon as I type and will certainly provide a nice meltdown.  Expect a pleasant autumn day with plenty of sunshine, temps in the low-mid 40s and breezes out of the W-SW at 5-7mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the upper 30s / low 40s and breezes out of the S-SW at 6-9mph.  There's a "Hazardous Weather" and "Flood Watch" in effect from Thursday evening into Friday evening as a rain system is headed this way and will be arriving by later tomorrow.  The Full Moon is Saturday which will increase the chance of island flooding.  If you're in a low lying area of the island or traversing on and off the island, take precautions.  The George Redding bridge has a reputation for closing when tidal flooding's a concern as the foot of the bridge famously floods during times like these.  It's best to get on and off the island by way of North Wildwood.  Enjoy today though... as it'll no doubt be the last nice day of Autumn this year (Winter's due in 2 days).  It'll be on the cold side today but sunny and pleasant.

Blustery and Sunny Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  It's breezy... N-NW winds are wifting (wafting) over the island at 16-21mph making it feel like 31°.  Ms. Sun just crossed the horizon and she's making a spectacle of herself as I type.  It is actually spectacular!  It'll be a sunny and blustery day with deep blue skies as temps just about tap 40°.  Winds will be brisk at 17-25mph +gusting out of the NW providing a nice windchill.  Tonight... clear and starlit with temps dropping a bit to 37° and winds out of the NW at 15-23mph.  Tomorrow... more of the same.  Thursday and Friday... not so much as rain is in their forecasts.  This first weekend of winter is looking pretty good with a couple of days of pretty much the same weather much
like today.

Mostly Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under dark, ominous cloud cover from this weekend's storm system that's in the process of heading out to sea.  In fact, the clouds are finally beginning to be lit up by Ms Sun who's been waiting for her grand entrance for a couple days now.  It should make for a spectacular sunrise.  Once these morning leftover clouds clear out, expect a mostly sunny day with temps in the upper 40s.  Very light breezes are outside now (North 5-8mph) but will ramp up as it'll be windy today with West winds at 17-23mph +gusting as high as 35mph.  Expect a windchill.  Tonight... mostly cloudy and blustery with NW winds at 20-30mph +more gusting.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 30s but it'll feel like mid-upper 20s with that windchill still hanging around.  Tomorrow... yet another "windchill" kind of day but sunny.  Winter's 4 days away!

Sloppy Sunday

Congress Hall - Cape May NJ (window decoration)
Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly and windy as hell with winds out of the NE at 25mph +gusting.  It's a perfectly miserable morning that is if you have to head out.  A warm fire and hot cup of coffee along with a good book would make this a beautiful morning.  It's messy outside as the island's saturated after the overnight's downpour after repeated wind-driven downpour.  It'll continue to be a wet day with rain on the weather menu.  Let's talk winds... these NE stiff winds will simmer down around midday still out of the NE at 15-20mph then switch from the North and again from the NW all at around 15-20mph +gusting by tonight.  The on and off rains should subside by later tonight (around 10pm) as temps drop into the upper 30s / low 40s with NW winds at 12-14mph.  Tomorrow...Ms Sun returns with temps in the upper 40s and those NW stiff winds still checked in.  Winter along with a Full Moon is next week!  Oh and by the way... yesterday's soup turned out to be vegetable beef barley (check out Instagram) and turned out scrumptious and there's more for today and tomorrow!

Crapola Weather for this Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining with winds out of the East at 4-6mph.  Expect gray skies with continued periods of rain throughout the day and night (90% chance).  Winds will definitely pick up later out of the NE at 20-30mph. The temps will hover around where they are now (low 50s).  Tonight...windy with rain (100% chance) with areas of patchy fog, stiff winds out of the E-NE at 20-30mph +gusting as temps drop into the mid-upper 40s.  Tomorrow...looks like more of the same. I'm going for the soup pot today and making chicken-vegetable-noodle soup!

Friday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood NJ.  It's hazy with thin clouds but starlit (the stars are twinkling through the misty haze) with hardly a breeze (NE 2-4mph).  Ms Sun's on her way as she's scheduled to rise in about a half an hour from now.  She'll be peeking through that haze and trying her best to shine through the misty horizon clouds. The first half of the day we'll see peeks of sunshine as warmer temps with a high of 52° is in the forecast.  Thicker clouds will begin to roll in later as patchy fog and heavier cloud cover is likely with breezes out of the SE at 7-9mph by this afternoon.  Heavier cloud cover and misty fog with 30% chance of rain by late this afternoon / early evening is due.  Tonight...rain (100% chance) with temps in the mid 40s and S-SE winds at 9-11mph.  The weekend's looking kind of miserable with wet and rainy and windy conditions as temps will be on the milder side (upper 40s / low 50s) along with much stronger winds. I could have saved "cookie baking" for this weekend, but that project has been checked off the "to-do" list.

Mostly Gray Thursday

Mornin'!  It's  44° in Wildwood NJ.  Breezes are out of the SE at 4-6mph with skies heavily covered in clouds.  Along the horizon there's a break for Ms Sun to show her bright self and paint the grayness a bright display of colors.  It looks like it'll be shortlived though as it'll be a cloudy one today.  The clouds are also making that sound insulator so I can hear the ocean waves crashing from 6+ blocks away.  It sounds like an Interstate highway is off in the distance with traffic rushing by.  I've already had a guest once say "Wow, is that traffic?".  There's only traffic here 3 months of the year and that's June, July and August.   The streets are now deserted.
For the weather today... mostly cloudy with temps in the upper 40s with SE breezes at 7-11mph.  I doubt if we'll see Ms Sun today.  All forecasts are pointing to a cloudy day.  Tonight...mostly cloudy with temps in the upper 30s / low 40s and Easterly breezes at 7-10mph.  Tomorrow...low 50s with peeks of sun and a 30% chance of rain by early evening.  The weekend's looking wet and raw as rain is likely.  It looks like Monday will have Ms Sun back on board.

Pleasant Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear and starlit as Ms Sun's just below the horizon waiting for her cue to make her bright and sunny appearance in about a half an hour.  Not much in breezes this morning (N-NW 2-4mph).  It's another one of those crisp, cold, somewhat pleasant Fall mornings down the Shore (Winter's 12 days away).  Today will be much like yesterday with temps in the low 40s and plenty of sunshine.  There will be some clouds in the mix with NW breezes at 7-10mph.  Tonight...even more clouds begin to filter in as temps drop down into the mid-30s with very light SE breezes at 2-4mph.
Tomorrow...much like today with mild temps and a mix of sunshine and clouds.  Friday and Saturday look like much warmer days (in the 50s) with rain likely making it feel cold and raw.
Sunday looks sunny and bright.

Mostly Sunny Tuesday

Winterwood Christmas Store - Cape May NJ
Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ.  It's crisp and clear outside in the early morning darkness.  The sky is lit with stars as far as the eye can see.  There's a very light northerly breeze at 2-4mph. It makes for standing on the porch and deeply breathing in the salty darkness the proper thing to do.  Sometimes when the wind is whipping icy cold, the last thing I'm thinking is how good that wintry blast feels.  This morning though...perfectly doable and pleasant.   Ms Sun's on her way and is scheduled to rise and shine just after 7a.m. this morning.  Expect plenty of sunshine today with temps in the low 40s as the North winds become West by this afternoon at 7-9mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with temps in the low 30s and West winds at 10-15mph with gusting as high as 30mph  Tomorrow...a repeat of today with a bit more stiffness to the breezes as they begin to calm down by nighttime.  Today's blog photo was taken last night while doing a little Christmas shopping in Cape May at the Washington Street Mall.  This photo is the facade of the building formerly known as First Jersey Trust Bank builit in 1895.  It's a great Christmas Shop opened all year.

Monday Mix of Sun and Clouds and Winds

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  It's partly cloudy with those horizon clouds blocking this morning's sunrise.  Ms Sun will make her grand entrance sometime this morning though as it'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day with temps in the low 40s.  At the moment the N-NE winds are wifting (wafting) over Wildwood at 15-20mph.  There's a windchill of 23° as I type.  It's blustery with a wintry bite out there.  There will be a wind chill throughout most of the day and night as these blustery winds are here for the day.  Tonight...partly cloudy, temps in the upper 20s with North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...sunnier and less windy. Unlike coastal areas around us (Atlantic City and Lewes DE among others)...Wildwood's been just missing the snow bullet as of late.  So far, we haven't even had a flurry (touch wood).

Saturday Fun Time

Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note.  The sky is mostly clear but the horizon clouds are keeping Ms Sun at bay again.  She'll eventually get through them as she rises and shines. Expect plenty of those milky clouds today along with sunshine peeking through as breezes kick in from the W-NW at 8-11mph. Temps in the upper 30s (wind chill of upper 20s).  Tonight...partly cloudy, temps in the low 30s with N-NW breezes at 6-8mph.

I'm about to mini-road-trip to the land of my grandbabies to do some grand-babysitting this weekend!  See you on the other side Monday (when Ms Sun will be once again shining brightly)!

Pearl Harbor Attack 77 Years Ago - A Date That Will Live In Infamy

USS Arizona beneath Pearl Harbor - Resting place of 1102 Sailors
Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  There's a light breeze out of the N-NW at 4-7mph.  There's a tiny windchill...37°.  It's clear as Ms Sun begins her ascent over the horizon in a ½ hour or so.  It'll be a sunny day with temps hovering around 40° as the NW winds pick up at 13-16mph.  Tonight...clear, temps in the upper 20s and those continuing NW winds at 9-14mph.  Tomorrow...another sunny cold day and Sunday... a mostly cloudy day with a 30% chance of precipitation.  We could see a dusting of the white stuff Sunday night.  Just saying.  Oh...we have a New Moon today (basically no moon) which means higher than normal tides.  Avoid any water that may seep into the streets...that salty, briny water is extremely corrosive.

Sunny and Windy Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  A light breeze out of the N-NW at 4-6mph is wifting (wafting) over the island.  Ms Sun's up but at the moment is hidden behind those big horizon clouds that seem to be here each and every morning this week blocking her grand entrance.  She will break on through though as it'll be mostly sunny today with temps in the low 40s.  So, let's talk "winds" for today...it'll be a blustery day as the winds will commence a bit later this morning out of the West at 15-20mph +gusting then switching from the SW by tonight.  Also tonight...clouds roll in then shift around making for a partly cloudy evening.  Temps will drop into the low 30s with those SW winds at 15-20mph with gusts as stiff as 30mph.  It'll make for that cold, biting winter feel with lots of windchill going on today (31°) and tonight (29°).  The weekend's looking dry and cold (some sun on Saturday and mostly cloud cover on Sunday).

Mornin'!  It's 29° in Wildwood NJ.  Breezes are light out of the N-NE at 3-5mph with not much of a windchill.  But it still feels icy cold when stepping outside.  Like yesterday, we're under thick, broken up cloud cover mostly near the horizon and unlike yesterday...today's clouds probably aren't checking out as even more are headed our way.  For the most part, expect mostly cloudy conditions with morning breaks of sun.  It'll be a mostly cloudy day with temps barely tapping 40° and breezes out of the NW at 9-14mph.   We could see some moisture as there's a 50% chance of precipitation late this morning / early afternoon.  Out of 5 different weather sources I checked today, 2 said there's a chance of snow flurries/snow showers for that precipitation (coating to an inch)in Cape May County.  I'll believe it when I see it.  Atlantic County and Ocean County (north of us) may see 1-4".  For our area tonight...partly cloudy with temps around where they are now...upper-20s with NW breezes at 10-15mph.  If we do get any of the white stuff...be careful when out and about tonight with icy temps and slick roads just in case we do get that snowy/icy coating.  Tomorrow...sunny, less breezy with temps in the low-40s.

Cold and Mostly Sunny Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 34° with the windchill out there.  The winds are out of the N-NW at 15-20mph.  We've got some huge, dark chunks of cloud cover out there...North of us as well as along the horizon but otherwise, the sky is clear and waiting to be lit up by Ms Sun who's due up any moment now.  It should make for another spectacular sunrise photo shoot as it's supposed to be sunny today. Temps in the low-mid 40s.  Breezes will lighten up a bit out of the W-NW at 12-14mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 30s and breezes out of the North at 6-8mph.  Tomorrow...a little less sunshine with colder temps and lighter breezes.

Sunny Monday

Cape May, NJ
Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a bit on the cloudy side with no breezes to note.  Ms Sun's on her way and trying to break through those wispy, milky, morning, horizon clouds as I type.  It'll be a pleasant mostly sunny Monday with temps in the mid-upper 50s and breezes out of the West at 10-15mph, then W-NW at 15-25mph a little later.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-40s and breezes out of the W-NW at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow looks cooler (low 40s) with same breezes staying checked in from today. I can't seem to find any rain in this week's forecasts but temps will continue to drop each day and be much colder than they've been (expect 30s with windchills).

Not So Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  Happy Birthday to my son! This one's for you! And, Happy Hanukkah as tonight kicks off that 8-day Festival of Lights!  It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  It appears as if it's raining but it's really just cloudy, misty, foggy and very drippy.  I don't think it's actually raining at the moment but it sure sounds it.  There are no winds or breezes.  Expect the possibility of a light drizzle this morning though (15-20% chance) before 11a.m. with winds commencing out of the S-SW at 14-17mph.  This afternoon will be mostly cloudy with areas of fog and also peeks of sun as temps will be in the upper 50s.  Southerly winds at 14-16mph with a 20-30% chance of light rain is in the late afternoon forecast.  Tonight...30-40% chance of showers as temps drop into the upper 40s with SW breezes at 9-14mph.  Tomorrow...mostly sunny with a high near 60°.

Welcome December!

Mornin'!  It's 36° in Wildwood NJ.  Happy December!  We're all hoping you are kind to us this year.  We know that you're the bearer of winter which is only 3 weeks away but I'm staying hopeful. This morning...we're currently under clear skies with no breezes to note.  It's another quiet, serene, crisp morning and a great way to begin a new day, a new weekend and a new month. The horizon's brightening and looks stunning at the moment as morning approaches (I'm actually watching the sunrise from the comforts of my home with a cup of steaming coffee on the live webcam).  Ms Sun's due to rise and shine in less than a half hour.  It's going to be a partially damp weekend but it'll be a pleasant morning with plenty of sunshine,  temps in the upper 40s with breezes out of the NE at 3-6mph.  Clouds are scheduled to move in and by 2-3p.m. there's a 70% chance of rain likely.  Breezes will switch a bit from the North at 8-11mph.  Tonight...rain with Easterly winds at 15-18mph and temps in the low-mid 40s.  Chance of precipitation is 80%.  Tomorrow we should wake to rain (60-70% chance) as the day becomes mostly cloudy.  Tomorrow's temps will be much warmer as we could see the 60s!  Monday looks like a keeper as the temps may be lower than tomorrow but we'll have plenty of sunshine.

Farewell November!

Mornin'!   It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy with no breezes to note this last day of November.  No windchill this morning! It actually feels pleasant outside without those annoying, relentless winds as of late.  The clouds are giving that insulator boosting the sound of the ocean waves crashing way off in the distance.  So, we're looking at a mostly gray day with plenty of cloud cover with a 40% chance of precipitation as light rain should be commencing late this morning and hang around throughout the afternoon. Temps will climb up to the mid-upper 40s with "calm" winds out of the South at 5-8mph.  Tonight...cloudy then clearing out a bit with temps dropping back into the mid-30s with NW winds at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow...90% chance of rain beginning in the afternoon and Sunday...morning rain will give way to clouds with temps near 60° (no typo).  Well November, you certainly gave us some taste of winter as well as more cloudy, damp, raw days than we're usually accustomed to.  Regrettably not many Indian Summer days this month.  Perhaps December won't be as wintry as it can.  Winter's officially only 21 days away.  Until next year November...see you on the other side!

FOOTNOTE: It's 2:30p.m. It's high tide on our side (marsh side) and it's beginning to spit. We actually haven't had any rain yet today.  Instead we had a lovely Friday with Ms Sun constantly shining through milky clouds making for some very colorful sky.  Between the filmy whiteness, I saw shades of turquoise and lavender in the sky today!  Anyway...at the moment, west of us appears to be getting wet (according to the doppler) but the island seems to be on the very outer edge of this rain systems and we're not getting as wet as originally forecast.  Seems we just keep missing the rain clouds passing by but not for long apparently...the doppler don't lie!

Plentiful Sunshine!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still breezy creating that ol' windchill as it feels like 28° when stepping out the back door to check my porch thermometer.  Hey, but it's sunny!  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly with not a cloud in the sky.  She'll be sticking around all day as there's plentiful sunshine in today's forecast with temps in the lower 40s.  The winds will simmer down just a bit from the W-NW at 17-20mph +some gusts making it feel like the lower 30s but the sunshine will help with that.  Tonight...clear and bright with temps in the lower 30s and breezes out of the NW at 9-11mph.  Tomorrow...a little warmer (mid-upper 40s), mostly cloudy and less breezy.  The weekend's looking a little wet with periods of rain showers both Saturday (beginning in the afternoon) and Sunday (mostly in the morning).

Wind Advisories Posted Again

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  Windchill: 27° as the W-NW winds are howling at 28-32mph w/gusting.  The salty air has a major bite this morning.  The sky is partially clear as there's some leftover overnight cloud cover especially along the horizon.  Ms Sun's on her way as she'll be trying to shine (much like yesterday) through the cloud cover all day.  The clouds are in it to win it though but will probably give up by dinner time perhaps making for a nice sunset. It certainly is making for a nice sunrise as she's doing her best to break through those clouds along the ocean horizon as I type. Today's temps will be in the low 40s with intense NW winds staying checked in until at least tomorrow night.  Today's windchill will be around 29-30 degrees.  Tonight...mostly clear, upper 30s (windchill: upper 20s) W-NW winds at 25-35mph.  Tomorrow...not as much cloud cover and sunnier but still cold, with plenty of winds blowing and wind chill blasting at least into Thursday's overnight.

Relentless Wild Winds Are Not Going Anywhere

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun just rose over the horizon as we have clear, cloudless skies this morning.  Breezes are beginning to kick up just a bit out of the North at 10-12mph.  It'll be sunny and much windier today as winds out of the W-NW at 19-24mph are headed this way.  Temps will hover around where they are now...low 40s with a crisp windchill.  Tonight...mostly clear (some clouds in the mix) with those relentless W-NW winds (anywhere from 20-30mph) as temps drop into the upper 30s (windchill in the upper 20s). By the way...these blustery winds aren't going anywhere at least until Friday so I'd go with a hat or hoodie and just forget the hairspray.

Rainy Days And Mondays

Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  The Blog's a little late as I was up from 2-5a.m. doing my cyber shopping. After turning in for the 2nd time, I'm just getting in gear again!  It's mostly cloudy down the Shore with Ms Sun working her way through but unfortunately, I doubt if she'll be making it today as showers are on the way.  She did just shine brightly right into the front of my house though.  Expect a rainy day as showers will begin later this morning / early afternoon.  Temps will rise a few degrees into the mid-50s but my guess it's going to feel raw.  I'm getting the soup out later.  There are no breezes to note now (S-SE 2-5mph) but they're coming!  Within the next couple hours along with the rain, SE winds at 18-22mph are checking in and will stay with us throughout the afternoon, evening, overnight and into tomorrow as the much cooler air comes along for the ride.  There are flood advisories posted today due to the recent full moon and storm surge. Tomorrow will be sunny with a windchill of 32° as it'll be blustery and cold again.  For today...wet and windy with fairly mild temps.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 45° in sunny Wildwood NJ.  We've got plenty of sunshine this morning. The island is beginning to dry out from last evening's and overnight's heavy relentless downpours of rain and wind.  We're saturated out there.  At the moment, the winds are out of the NW at 8-10mph.  It'll be a pleasant Sunday with abundant sunshine, temps in the low-mid 50s and breezes out of the W-NW at 5-10mph.  Tonight...clear, upper-40s, NW winds at 3-5mph.  Tomorrow...waking to clouds with rain returning by late morning and temps in the low 50s.  Beginning Tuesday...we'll have some of the wicked winds return bringing more wintry temps (mid-30s).  Winter's not giving up.  Today though...an Autumn beauty.

Small Business Saturday

Washington Street Mall - Cape May NJ
Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under plenty of cloud cover with no breezes to note.  It'll be a mostly gray start to the day with a 50% chance of rain due in by early afternoon.  Temps will rise into the mid-upper 50s as winds will check in from the E-SE at 14-17mph. This evening...more cloud cover with almost 100% chance of rain and temps still in the low 50s with E-SE winds at 15-20mph turning to Southerly breezes briefly as they switch from the West right before heading into the overnight when the rain stops and we begin to dry out.  It'll be a bit blustery tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and temps still holding in the low 50s. Monday...back to rain.  I'll be enjoying the spicy turkey noodle soup I prepared yesterday for all this busy, blustery, somewhat wet weekend!

Full Moon Black Friday

Mornin'!  It's 22° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note but that cold snap smacks you upside the head when stepping out the back door.  It's clear with a group of clouds over the horizon blocking out Ms Sun but it's making for a magnificent sunrise.  Once she breaks through those clouds, it'll be mostly sunny today with temps in the upper 30s.  Breezes begin a bit later this morning out of the E-NE then switching out of the East, then again out of the E-SE until tonight when they finally shift from S-SE all at 6-9mph.  Tonight's temps will be in the low 40s (thank God).  Tomorrow...rain by the afternoon and Sunday...sunny.  The weekend (thankfully) will have more seasonable temps in the upper 40s / low 50s.

Thanksgiving Day

Mornin'!  Happy Thanksgiving!  It's 29° in Wildwood NJ.  Breezes are out of the N-NW at 15-18mph with a windchill (feels like) of 19° out there.  Winter's arrived and my aching bones are feeling it.  Whew...that winter blast is nasty when stepping outside to check the ol' porch thermometer!  It'll feel really cold all throughout the day today due to the winds and the much colder temps that will hover around the 30° mark.  Today's winds will be out N-NW at 19-22mph creating a windchill in the teens most of the day and into tonight.  It'll be sunny and clear all day with a full moonlit sky tonight but temps will continue to give the feeling of winter as the winds intend to stay checked in helping that chill stay put.  Tomorrow won't feel that much warmer.  Although the winds will be lighter with a mix of sun and clouds, the temps are staying in the 20s and 30s.  Still looks like rain Saturday.  Aside from the cold and the weather, many wonderful blessings have been giving to me.  I know I'm blessed and I'm very grateful.  My home will be warm today with love as well as plenty of food cooking as it's just hubby and me celebrating alone here down the Shore.  All our kids will be with their significant others' families this holiday.  It's not stopping me from preparing a mini-feast of turkey and stuffing, cranberries,  Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, coleslaw and pie for dessert (hubby requested that I make his favorite a Key Lime Pie instead of Pumpkin since it was just us this year)! He also suggested we just stay in our PJs all day and I'm totally down with that! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Eve

The GSP - Garden State Parkway (The road to the Shore)
Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  We're still in pre-dawn as the almost Full moon and stars are vivid and shining in the darkness.  Not a breeze to note.  It's fragrant, cold, quiet and very still.  I love mornings like this as my senses are heightened by the Shore's Fall loveliness.  It's only natural for me to stop and enjoy the briny tranquility as it's the calm before the storm as in the words of The Eagles... "The wicked winds whisper and moan" beginning later today and increase even more tomorrow.  Today...sunny with temps in the mid-upper 40s with Westerly breezes commencing later this morning at 8-13mph increasing to 16-22 by this afternoon.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps down into the upper 30s / low 40s with winds out of the NW at 20-25mph with gusting.  Tomorrow...sunny with temps in the upper 20s / low 30s and winds gusting as high as 35mph creating a wind chill in the teens.  Like I said..."wicked winds" so just stay near that warm oven!  So far...the weekend's looking 50-50 with Sunday being the better day (sunny) as Saturday looks gray with rains checking in by the afternoon.  Safe travels for all you traveling today!

Countdown To Turkey Day

Otten's Harbor
Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  The island's currently covered in mostly cloudy skies with not much in breezes.  Ms Sun's trying to peek through, but it's not happening.  It feels cold and damp as everything's soaked with dew.  Smells salty and briny outside too.  It's all good.  That is at least until Thanksgiving day (including Black Friday) when we're headed for another preview of winter with a high of 30° and blustery, icy North winds.  By Saturday...we're back up into the 50s (thankfully).   For today...expect a mix of clouds and sun (mostly clouds in the morning and more sunshine in the afternoon) with temps in the low 50s with brisk, blustery winds (checking in later this morning) out of the N-NW at 15-25mph.  Tonight...clear, temps in the low-40s and breezes out of the NW at 13-15mph.  Tomorrow...plenty of sunshine with much cooler temps and stiffer breezes.  It's coming!

Another Lovely Autumn Day

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's on her way (about another half hour or so) as any spectacular sunrise could very well be blocked by plenty of those milky-wispy clouds along the horizon this morning.  The sky does have plenty of clear spots though.  There are no breezes to note.  It'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day with temps in the low 50s and breezes out of the SW turning to S-SW and eventually becoming Southerly breezes later in the day / early evening all at 5-8mph.  Tonight...cloudy with temps in the upper 40s / low 50s with S-SW breezes at 5-7mph.  Tomorrow...pretty much the same as today but a tad breezier.  At this time, Thanksgiving day is looking COLD with a high of 30° with blustery Northern winds and a windchill of 19°!  A perfect day for the oven to be on all day.

Mostly Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's fantastic outside this early, dark morning.  Although the temperature is low and there's frost covering everything, it doesn't feel cold.  There's not a wisp of a breeze (no wind chill) but the fragrance of the briny sea is sharp in the air.   Then the pitch black sky is vividly clear displaying endless stars and of course the moon (full moon is next week on Black Friday). And last but not least, there's the sound of waves crashing onshore (6+ blocks from here) in the dense quietness.  It can be all so overwhelming when nature displays its awe-inspiring and heavenly sparkle.  It forces you to take note and is truly spiritual and never ceases to remind me of how lucky I am to be here.  It seems to be a perfect prelude to today's weather as it'll be an autumn beauty.  Expect plenty of sunshine with some cloud cover in the deep blue sky as temps get into the low 50s with E-NE breezes first then switching later this afternoon from the SE all at 5-8mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-40s and S-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...a repeat of today!

Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover again with breezes out of the West at 10-15mph.  It feels like 38° which I'm still trying to get the gist of this Winter preview (officially 34 days away).  I'm grateful for none of that authentic winter weather down the Shore yet... that is the wintry mix or snow that my hometown of Philly had a nice blast of this week.  After a couple days of a real blustery cold snap here down the Shore, we're going to have a sunny, warmer day today (once the morning clouds check out) with temps in the upper 40s (maybe even tapping 50°) and breezes much calmer out of the W-NW at 14-17mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 30s/low 40s and breezes out of the NW at 10-15mph.  It looks like tomorrow we're going to have much easier breezes off the warmish ocean.  The ocean and marsh believe it or not is keeping any snow, ice or wintry mix away from the island for now as the 50°+ water temp is keeping us insulated. Once the ocean temperature goes down and gets into the 30s, we're in for it.  But for today...it's going to be on the nice side thanks to Ms Sun as she'll do what she does best by making us feel warmer in that cool, pre-winter sea air.

Another Blustery Day - TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  Wind Chill is 28°.  It's windy and cloudy with misty conditions feeling more like little sharp pellets (probably sand in the wet air) as the 20-30mph +gusty winds have been nailing the island since yesterday.  We received plenty of rain  (no snow or flooding) and howling winds from this giant storm that whacked much of Philly and the suburbs into Winter with major velocity.  No wind damage here but the overnight winds did push the gate wide open in my yard.  For some reason, the pooch opted not to escape the backyard before hubby secured it in the morning darkness. It is cold and miserable out there! These winds are sticking around again today at 30-35mph +gusting out of the W-NW and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.  They're staying checked in until Sunday. Although it'll be mostly cloudy for the early morning, we're supposed to see some sunshine filter in before mid-day as temps get up into the mid-upper 40s.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-40s and W-NW winds continue at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tomorrow...windy but plenty of sunshine with cooler temps.  Sunday...partly sunny as the winds will be outta here!

Stormy Day Ahead

3rd and JFK (now the norm for high tide)
Mornin'! It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  We're dry with thick cloud cover and breezes out of the E-SE at 10-12mph.  Very intense strong winds are going to be the main attraction as temps rise up to about 50° (39° wind chill) today as the winds and cloud cover begin to bring us moisture as rain (100% chance) beginning anytime now.  A storm is headed right up the eastern seaboard covering a vast area as far west as Ohio.  Along our coast forecasters have posted Wind Advisory and Flood Watch warnings.  Rainfall totals of 1-2 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible.  We probably will see flooding due to the heavy rain especially where there's poor drainage and clogged storm drains from leaves and debris flying around.  Cold, wind-driven rains (no freezing rain or wintry mix for our immediate area) are expected to begin this morning and continue throughout the day into tonight.  Winds are coming out of the E-NE at 25-35mph w/gusting of up to 50mph. Secure anything that can move around the outside property.  Tonight's temps remain in the low 50s but these winds will make it feel much colder (upper 30s).  Tomorrow... the rains will have checked out but not the winds.  We're in for some unsettled, very windy weather.  Strap in!  High Tide: 1:27p.m.; Low Tide: 7:39p.m.;  Ocean temp:57°; Sunset: 4:47p.m.
