For The Most Part...A Lovely Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a lovely morning with a little partial cloud cover making a lovely, colorful sunrise.  It's breezy...S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  It's less humid...Humidity's 85% with 71° Dewpoint.  It'll be mostly sunny today (at least until late afternoon / or around dinner time) with temps in the low 80s and breezes out of the W-SW at 8-11mph.  The clouds will filter in today as there's a 40% chance of an isolated shower and/or thunderstorm later this afternoon into this evening.  Tonight...scattered showers, mostly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the West at 9-11mph.  Tomorrow...sunny and dry.  It seems that every day this week those "West" winds are in the forecast so pack that insect repellent for the greenhead flies just in case.  I had yesterday's forecast wrong as I kept hearing rain and flooding in Philly and the surrounding Philly area and suburbs thinking it's heading our way but we had hardly a cloud in the deep blue sky.  Go figure.

Some Rain This Monday

Mornin'!  It's 76° in rainy Wildwood NJ  We're having a rain shower at the moment with no breezes to note.  Humidity's 91% with a 71° Dewpoint.   50% chance of rain today (some sunshine in the mix too) but for the most part it looks like a cloudy day.  Some rainfall could produce heavy downpours with minor island flooding.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with breezes out of the NE 6-8mph.  Tonight...30-40% chance of rain showers with temps back into the mid-70s and breezes out of the W-SW at 5-8mph.  Tomorrow...chance of some morning and evening showers but a nice day overall.

Mix of Sunshine and Clouds

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's still high at 95% with a Dewpoint of 72°.  It's "thick" outside. We're under partly cloudy skies with Ms Sun doing everything she's got to break on through.  We have very light breezes out of the N-NE at 4-6mph.  It'll be partly sunny / partly cloudy today with breezes out of the N-NE until around noon when they switch to the S-SE all at 4-6mph.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with a 30-40% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm more like after mid-day.  Tonight...partly cloudy (chance of rain 30%) with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the N-NE at 3-5mph.  Tomorrow...almost a repeat of today.  I'm going with thumbs up for the North Wildwood 44th Annual Flea Market along JFK Boulevard from 8-4 today!

Not a "10" Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  It' overcast and cloudy at the moment with very light breezes out of the SE at 3-5mph.  Expect a mix of clouds and sun this morning as we head into a mostly cloudy day (I'm going with peeks of sun throughout the day).  There's a 20% chance of showers today.  It'll feel warm and humid with sun or no sun as the humidity's 80% with temps in the mid-upper 80s and breezes out of the S-SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...60% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms with temps in the mid-upper 70s and breezes out of the South at 5-8mph. Tomorrow...pretty much the same with a 30-50% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms with a good chance of those rain clouds clearing out by the afternoon.

Remember that "New" moon... it's been causing tidewater to seep into our streets all over the island.  It's amazing how the moon controls it, but that salty, corrosive "tidewater" should be avoided and not driven through as it's harmful to the underside of your vehicle. Unless of course, you have the ability to get under there and completely hose it down.  It is done here.  To get off and on the island during the high tides...using North Wildwood is your best bet for less street flooding but stay on New Jersey Avenue for traversing across the Wildwoods...less street flooding likely there too.  And, also notice that the "low" tides are lower than usual as well.  Lot's of mucky marsh exposed at low tide not to mention the beach looks much bigger.

I'm Going With A "10" For Today's Beach Day!

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with hardly a breeze.  It's less humid as the Humidity's 82% with a dewpoint of 73°.  It's still sticky and pleasantly smelly with that ol' briny, fishy aroma on the island.  It looks like we're about to have a near perfect summer day down the shore with plenty of sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 80s and Southerly breezes at 6-8mph.  Tonight...the weekend clouds begin to roll in as it'll be mostly cloudy with temps in the mid-upper 70s, 30% chance of showers and breezes still out of the South at 7-10mph.  The weekend's looking "eh" with Saturday having a 20-40% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms and Sunday 40-70% chance. Monday's a repeat of today.  The "New Moon" is tomorrow.  The tides are higher with the Full and New moons.  I noticed last evening on "high tide" that the waters were way up and much higher than they normally are.  Don't drive through tidewater (it's like driving in the salty, corrosive ocean and not good for the undercarriage of your vehicle).  And, the back bay water has a high tide that's one hour later than the ocean's high tide...just an fyi.

And, it's Friday so the Beach Tips are up next but so far this summer I'm not seeing a lot of courtesy on the beach.
Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette~
~Remember to pack water, hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, and shade (umbrella or sand chair with a canopy). If packing an umbrella be aware of wind speed as you may have to take extra steps to secure it such as sand (screw) grabber or bungee cord.  It's pretty amazing how not secure some umbrellas can be as the wind launches them directly toward you.
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any that you see whether it's yours or not.   Note trash and recycle containers are situated everywhere.
~Don't forget those cigarette butts...collect and trash them.  Or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air. Never stick them in the sand and leave them...that'll be tomorrow's find for the little kid digging in the sand.  Plus, cigarette filters take years to decompose and could be taken to the ocean by the tides giving sea life harmful/toxic cigarette filter tidbits to swallow. Smoking is banned on the Boardwalk in all the towns by the way.
~Remember to pack headphones for your music device or at least keep the volume down to a minimum (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music not to mention your beach neighbor might be quietly trying to listen to their own music).
~Kindly give your beach neighbors space when selecting your beach campsite. Courtesy is key. Careful not to plop only inches from others' blankets/umbrellas.
~Teach children some beach etiquette. Running (basically "kicking") and dispensing sand nearby others as well as throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it.
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express emotion when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls. Dropping one potato chip thoughtlessly will create seagull havoc. Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the seagulls are much like vultures and are endlessly eyeing beachgoers eating habits.  They're relentless trying to find the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  If successful, seagull havoc begins as 40 other gulls come in for a food fight of your scattered lunch.  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the bag of chips from your bag as well as share their newly acquired snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~Playing ball, frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, or kite-flying etc is a no-no at the beach.  I mean on the back side of the beach (dune side) or other designated areas is more appropriate for active beach games.  Stay away from those camped out that are simply trying to enjoy their quiet, relaxing beach day.  The beach patrol will probably stop you if playing in the wrong area anyway.
~Shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~Observe and follow posted beach warnings (closed beaches, no alcohol, strong rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area etc) and always pay attention to lifeguards.  If in doubt...ask the lifeguard (they're terrific people).

The Summer Heat Continues

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up. Some light cloud cover this morning. No breezes to note. The Humidity's a bit lower at 87% with a Dewpoint of 73°.  It's a hazy, warm, summer morn.  It's what some would call "stinky" outside as the aroma of the marsh is heavy in the morning air and that lovely fishy fragrance hits you the minute you step out there. I personally like that smell as it always reminds me of the drive to our vacation and that area around Tuckahoe / Corbin City area when my father would yell out "Smell the shore" as the briny/fishy wildlife area would filter into the car and we knew we were almost down the shore.   I'm not sure if we'll have this fragrance throughout the day (it was here last night) but we will have a heavy, hazy, sunny, hot day again.  Temps will feel like we're in the 90s with W-NW warm land breezes wifting (wafting) over the island at 10-12mph.  Today looks like one of those days that the afternoon sea breeze will not kick in as the NW breezes are sticking around until tonight.  Tonight...clear and hazy with temps back into the mid-upper 70s (it was 80° last night at 10p.m.).  Tomorrow...more of the same but that sea breeze looks like it'll kick in by the afternoon.  The weekend...30-40% chance of showers both days.  That certainly doesn't mean a washout but a beach day may not be likely.  Remains to be seen.  For today though...remember the insect repellent.  Those warm land breezes do bring with them the greenhead (biting) flies.  Also, it'll be really hot on the beach today...prepare and pack accordingly...umbrella, footwear, hat, plenty of water, sunblock...you know the drill!

Heatwave Continues

Mornin'!  It's 81° in sunny Wildwood NJ.  The blogs a bit late as the ol' sleeping patterns have been off a bit as of late.  I feel like I lost most of this morning as I slept it away.  My bedroom room darkening shades help hugely too keeping me in the dark because Ms Sun's up and heating the island as I type.  It looks like another scorcher today repeating yesterday's weather with mostly hazy, sunny skies (some clouds in the mix) as temps climb into the upper 80s / low 90s.  Breezes are very light at the moment out of the West at 4-6mph and will kick up just a bit at 6-10mph from the S-SW.  Tonight...more clouds roll in as the temp drops into the mid-upper 70s with SW breezes at 8-10mph and a 50% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms. Tomorrow...a repeat of today.
Things to pack for the beach: water, sunblock, insect repellent, umbrella, hat and footwear.

Another Hot One

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still cookin' out there with humidity at 91% and dewpoint at 74°.  No breezes to note. We're going to have a repeat of yesterday with blue skies, plenty of searing sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 80s (feeling like the 90s) and breezes out of the S-SW at 8-11mph this morning and switching from the South by this afternoon.  It'll feel humid and oppressive.  But, there's always the beach!  Once you're near the ocean, everything changes and things feel incredibly more comfortable and refreshing.  Just being near the water and/or sitting under shade (boardwalk, umbrella, canopy, sand chair w/sunshade etc.) all make the experience of a "beach day" pretty incredible and rewarding.  Anyway, it'll be one of those days today.  So far this week, it's been near perfect even with the summer heat.  Tonight...clear with temps back into the mid-70s and breezes out of the S-SW at 13-15mph.  The overnight into Wednesday morning may produce some showers and/or thunderstorms (30% chance).

Muggy Monday

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  It's another warm and muggy one this morning.  Ms Sun's shining brightly, Humidity's 90% and Dewpoint is 75° with no breezes to note.  If you jog or bike...do it now (or later when the sun's almost down) as this humidity will knock you down.  It'll be a mostly sunny day with plenty of hazy, hot, and humid weather on tap.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 80s with breezes out of the S-SW at 7-12mph.  There's a 15% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm this afternoon but that percentage is so low that I doubt if we'll see any of that today.  If you see clouds building around you and they look threatening...check the doppler on your phone's weather app and take cover if a storm is approaching.  My bets are on "no rain today".   Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-upper 70s and breezes out of the S-SW at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow looks like a repeat of today.  Oh...I don't want to forget those "beach day reminders"...pack insect repellent for the biting "greenhead" flies as they come with any "westerly" breezes (none yesterday I'm happy to report), pack plenty of water, footwear (the sand will scorch your feet), a hat and an umbrella is just the ticket!

Hazy, Hot and Humid

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note.  It's bright and sunny with humidity at 90% and dewpoint at 76°.  It's feeling pretty warm out there.  We're up for a hot, steamy one today with sunny skies, temps in the upper 80s (we may tap the 90° mark) and breezes out of the W-NW at 5-7mph.  By this afternoon, they'll switch up a bit from the SW at 5-7mph.  Pack the insect repellent.  Tonight...clear, mid-70s and S-SW breezes at 10-12mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.

Happy 5th Birthday To My Grandson!

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  About an hour ago we were getting a sprinkling of rain and now Ms Sun's breaking through and trying to shine down.  Everything's wet and my herb garden is making its lovely presence known.  It's humid 91% humidity with a 74° dewpoint.  There's a very light breeze out of the South at 3-5mph.  It's a really nice morning.  So, this unsettled (possibly rainy) Saturday looks like all weather reports coming in are now changed up a bit.  I thought it might be a washout but nada.  I'm going with the majority...somewhat cloudy / somewhat sunny day with a 30% chance of a passing shower (could even be a thunderstorm) into this afternoon.  As I've repeatedly said...30% chance is that you'll not likely see any rain but everyone's covering their butts in case we have a shower or two. My guess is that it will not be anything near a washout.  Today will become increasingly clearer with less and less cloud cover until it's mostly sunny by early evening (perhaps a beautiful sunset).  Temps will be in the mid-80s.  Southwest winds are on tap...10-20mph.  Tonight...clear, Southwest winds sticking around at 5-10mph with temps in the mid-70s.  Looks like a beautiful night tonight.  Tomorrow...clear and sunny with temps in the mid-upper 80s with (I hate to say it) West winds at 4-6mph.  They will shift to Southerly by the afternoon though.  But, just to hear myself talk...any breezes/winds with "West" in it, the greenhead (biting) flies wift (waft) right along with that breeze toward the beach as they find our bodies delectable.  Pack the insect repellent just in case.  And, A very Happy Birthday to my Grandson!  He's my most blessed gift!  Have a nice weekend!

TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and a slightly bit breezy (SW 9-11mph).  Humidity's still out there - 95% with a Dewpoint of 75°.  It's heavy with moisture as Ms Sun's beginning to shine down and heat it all up again today.  We've been having a stretch of warm, humid, hazy, summery conditions as of late and today won't be an exception.  We never had the rain the forecasters reported for the overnight/morning.  Todays we might see showers and/or thunderstorms (20% chance) but for the most part it'll be partly sunny with temps in the low-mid 80s and a Southerly breeze at 10-14mph. Tonight...a slight chance of showers on the overnight (30% chance) with the Southerly breeze kicking at 13-17mph.  The weekend still looks 50-50 with tomorrow bringing the 60% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms before the afternoon and 20% later in the day/evening.  It looks like Sunday will be a beauty.

Before I print out my Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette, I have to report that yesterday's beach day was one of those beautiful, refreshing beach days but with a very stiff breeze (off the ocean winds) all day long which helped propel those beach umbrellas not anchored well enough.  Unfortunately, those umbrellas were headed in my direction as I prefer to sit as far from the water (and crowds) as I can.  It's really scary especially when 2 women were impaled by beach umbrellas last month along our east coast making national news. Securing umbrellas is a must when it's that breezy.  If you're not sure how to keep your umbrella fixed and stable...ask someone for help or don't put one up. When it's as windy as yesterday, walking/running right by folks camped on their blanket and/or chair as they're showered by your thoughtless close proximity "kicking up sand" footsteps is more annoying than my teeth becoming gritty with sand!  Also, let's talk about shaking your towels and blankets when it's that windy on the beach...well, we all have to deal with that fine white sand covering just about everything that's lying down in front of us...blankets, reading material, towels, beach bags etc. thanks to the wind. Of course, our natural reaction is to just grab that towel or blanket and give it a shake before replacing it back down for a clean, fresh spot to plant ourselves. At least look around first to see who nearby is being covered by the sand you're shaking off! And last but not least, on my walk back to the street yesterday, the beach in Wildwood Crest (near the dunes) was covered by cans and plastic bottles.  I actually filled a plastic grocery bag to the top with all the trash I collected before heaving it in the nearest can.   There is etiquette out there as you consider all those folks trying to enjoy their beach right along with you.  Just be aware of your surroundings.  I'm done ranting.

Tropical Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and at'em.  Breezes are barely there out of the SW at 5-10mph.  It's thick with humidity...90% and the dewpoint is 76° making it feel nice and tropical...and feeling exactly like Key West (my favorite vacation spot).  It'll feel warm and humid all day as temps go into the low-mid 80s with humidity in the mid-upper 80% and plenty of sun shining down.  It'll feel much like yesterday with some clouds in the mix this afternoon.  Breezes will be out of the S-SW at 12-18mph.  Tonight...more clouds roll in as it'll be mostly cloudy with temps back into the mid-70s, breezes out of the S-SW at 15-20mph and a 35% chance of rain showers late (around 10-11mph) as we may get rain showers throughout the night (40% chance). But, tomorrow looks A-ok as it appears it'll be a repeat of today.  The weekend's still looking 50-50 with Sunday being the better of the two days.  Saturday has a 50% chance of rain and so far it appears "daytime" only as the clouds will begin to roll out in the words of Joe Cocker "When the night comes".

Brand New Month Dawns! Welcome August! Happy Hump Day!

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  Greetings August!  Looks like a fairly decent day to welcome August to the weather menu. We're under some cloud cover as Ms Sun's waiting for her turn.  Everything's wet and dripping with the humid air (humidity's 95% / dewpoint's 76°) as morning sunshine is about to break on through.  There's a light breeze (SW 5-10mph).  It'll be mostly sunny today with a 15-20% chance of a pop-up shower and/or thunderstorm.  Overall, it looks like a decent weather (beach) day but a couple weather reports are forecasting a somewhat cloudy morning with a mix of clouds and sunshine this afternoon.  It'll be warm and humid as temps get into the low 80s with breezes out of the SW at 13-15mph.  Tonight...mostly clear and warm with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the S-SW at 16-22mph.  The ocean will have 5-6 foot swells including dangerous rip currents.  You might want to check with the lifeguards before entering the surf.  For now, the weekend's looking 50-50 with Sunday being the better of the 2 days as Saturday's possibly "wet" during the day (not so much at night).

Farewell July

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly with an Easterly breeze at 5-10mph.  Expect July to bow out with mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers / possible thunderstorms (after 3p.m.).  Temps will barely tap the 80° mark with Easterly breezes at 9-13mph.  Chance of precipitation is 30% as we'll probably see some peeks of Ms Sun in the mix.  Tonight...mostly cloudy, scattered showers and/or thunderstorms (40% chance).  Temps will drop down into the low 70s with SE breezes at 6-10mph.  Tomorrow...a bit more sunshine with that unsettled, cloudy, humid weather still hovering about off and on throughout the entire day.  Looks like the best bet for today is between noon-5p.m. And, the best bet for tomorrow is between 2p.m. and 7p.m.  But, your guess is as good as mine.  So, until next year July...it's been great having you!

Gray and Wet Monday

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and humid.  No breezes to note.  The Blog's a bit late...company's here until Wednesday and when the babies are here...Grandmom is near (actually "G-G" is near...that's what I'm called)!  I'm not sure what the babies are going to find to do to occupy their time today as the weather doesn't seem to want to cooperate in regard to a beach day.  It looks like we'll have periods of rain (heavy at times) with the possibility of thunderstorms passing through. Chance of precipitation...80-90%.  Breezes will commence out of the SE at 6-13mph.  Temps should just about reach 80°.  Tonight...showers likely with temps in the low 70s and SE breezes at 8-11mph.  Chance of precipitation is 60%.  Those thunderstorms will also be a possibility during the night.  Tomorrow starts out gray and "iffy" looking but Ms Sun will break on through.  Today...not so much.

Mostly Sunny Birthday Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and warm but the humidity (70%) and dewpoint (65°) are considerably lower and much more comfortable than what it's been as of late.  Breezes are light out of the E-NE at 5-7mph.  It finally feels nice when you step outside.  It'll be partly sunny / partly cloudy today with temps in the low-mid 80s and breezes out of the E-SE at 3-7mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the South at 3-5mph.  Tomorrow begins another week of unsettled weather but if it's anything like last week, we basically had a one crapola day out of the entire week.  Think positive is my motto!  But, always keep that doppler close at hand.  And, Happy Birthday to me!

Somewhat Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  It's another shocker to the system when stepping outside this early morn.  It's overcast. Humidity's 90% and the Dewpoint is 72° with no breezes to note.  Ms Sun's on her way ready to heat things up even more.  It'll be another warm, humid day with partly sunny/partly cloudy skies, temps in the low 80s and breezes out of the W-NW at 6-10mph (pack the insect repellent).  There's a 20% chance of passing showers and/or thunderstorms later this afternoon. Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the SW at 5-8mph.  Tomorrow...more sunshine than today and continued warmth and humidity.  The upcoming week is looking much like this past week...unsettled.

Full Moon Friday

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  It's foggy and hazy (it's lifting as I type) with Ms Sun beginning to break on through and shine down.  No breezes to note.  Humidity's way up there (74° dewpoint / 92% humidity).  It's tropical and heavy with moisture out there.  It'll be a warm one today with plenty of sunshine (mostly sunny) and temps in the low 80s.  Breezes will commence this morning and wift (waft) over the island from the S-SE at 9-11mph and switch from the South at 10-15mph later this afternoon.  There is a 20% chance of a passing rain shower late this afternoon.  Tonight...cloudy with a 60% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms, temps in the mid-70s and Southerly breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow looks a bit unsettled (like earlier this week) with clouds and possible passing showers and storms mostly in the a.m. with Ms Sun trying her best to break through and shine.  Sunday looks like Ms Sun wins the sunshine competition.

So, the Full "Buck" Moon is today (Bucks are growing their new antlers...thus the name) and it's also known as "Thunder" Moon due to all the storms in July and "Blood" Moon due to that coppery red hue around it tonight.  Speaking of "red" if you see a tiny red dot near the Moon tonight, it's Mars.  Mars will be aligned with the Earth and the Sun and you may be able to see it tonight and the next few nights during this alignment. It's the closest it's been to Earth in 15 years.  There's a full lunar eclipse too (when the moon enters the shadow of Earth cutting off all the sunlight reflected off the Moon) tonight.  We're not going to see it as it's not visible from North America.  Antartica, Russia, Asia, Africa, Europe and Central and Eastern South America are the lucky ones for this eclipse.
And, it's Friday and you know what that means...

Best Day Of The Week So Far

Wildwood Crest Library
Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  It's as heavy as it gets outside with humidity at 93% and a dewpoint of 73°.  It's cloudy and still (no breezes to note) and it's feeling like the tropics again.  Everything's damp and moist.  It'll be another unsettled day with partly sunny / partly cloudy conditions with a 20-30% chance of rain later this afternoon / early evening.  Temps will be in the low 80s with SW breezes at 7-9mph.  Tonight...patchy fog / partly cloudy with temps back down into the low 70s and Southerly breezes at 6-9mph.  I'm calling it a beach day (make it an early one).  Tomorrow...more unsettled weather with 40% chance of rain.  At this point, the weekend's looking like decent weather and much like today with Saturday starting out "iffy" and Sunday being the sunniest of the two days.  Remember the Full Moon's tomorrow...higher than usual tides.

Wet Hump

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly with breezes out of the South at 13-15mph.  It's humid as hell...98% humidity and 73° dewpoint.  We're having a taste of the tropics this morning.  We'll be getting a nice watering with 70-90% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms throughout the day and evening.  Some could produce heavy rainfall.  The Tides are higher than usual too due to Friday's full moon.  Be aware of any flood sirens you may hear as preparedness is key for unusually high water.  Note where you decide to park your vehicle.  And, never drive through corrosive flood water.  Temps will rise a bit into the upper 70s as winds will be out of the South then S-SW all at 10-20ph.  Tonight...70-80% chance of rain with temps back to where they are now...low 70s.  Tomorrow...Ms Sun seems to be checking back in (although she'll be dealing with leftover cloud cover) making for somewhat of a beach day.  Temps will be in the low 80s with lighter breezes.

More Of The Same

Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  I'm grateful for the air conditioner as it's very muggy down the Shore.  Humidity's 91% and Dewpoint is 73°.  It's almost clear (some clouds helping make daybreak prettier than usual). It's breezy (S-SE 17-23mph). It all hits you immediately when stepping outside.  It's a bit early for brewing coffee but it's happening.  Some mornings the ol' body wakes extra early needing no more rest.  For today's weather, it'll be pretty much a repeat of yesterday.  Muggy and humid, partly Sunny / partly cloudy as temps just about tap 80° and there's a 20-30% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms.  The breezes don't intend on checking out yet as they'll be here all day into the night from the S-SE at 17-23mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the S-SE at 15-20mph, 30-40% chance of rain showers or thunder boomers.  Very risky rip current warnings are still in effect...check with lifeguards before entering the surf.  Wave action...5'-8'.  Always swim near a lifeguard, never alone and never at night.  If caught in a rip current (ocean's grasp of you), try to relax and float (easy for me to say).  Don't waste your time trying to swim out of the current...float it out until it releases you (it will eventually release you), then swim in the direction of the shoreline until you can ride a wave in.  Speaking of waves...don't forget to wave for help (although I'm thinking that would be a natural reaction to that frightening peril).  Our lifeguards are always on it.

Shady Monday

Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  It's gray and overcast with a fresh onshore stiff breeze (S-SE 18-22mph).  Ms Sun's doing her best to squeeze through the cloud cover.  With just coming off high tide and with these winds, the ocean's showing off big time with some crazy, rough, gnawing, pounding, unpredictable, higher-than-normal surf.  It was showing off all weekend and doing what it does best...eroding our beaches. We're still headed for some unstable weather this week beginning today.  There's a 20-30% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms this morning and by this afternoon that percentages go up to 70%.  It'll be cloudy (but don't rule out peeks of sun though) with temps in the mid-upper 70s and stiff breezes staying checked in out of the S-SE at 20-30mph.  Tonight...more of the same with cloud cover, 60% chance of rain and SE winds at 16-22mph.  Tomorrow...still cloudy and the possibility of showers but the winds begin to settle down providing a much more comfortable and less strenuous bike ride.

Partly Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  The Blog's a little late... company's here as I got completely sidetracked with little people (my cutie pie grandkids) this morning not to mention a yummy breakfast prepared by hubby and myself.  It's sunny and pleasant in Wildwood this morning!  We made it through a day of really unsettled weather yesterday with ominous skies, intense humidity and tropic-like rainfall off and on yesterday. But, Ms Sun's rays were peeking in the bedroom windows and is what woke me this morning (I did sleep in a bit too which was terrific).  It'll be a mix today of sun and cloud cover with a 40% chance of a shower and/or thunderstorm later this afternoon and evening.  Temps will just about tap 80° with these S-SE breezes we're currently having at 10-14mph.  Tonight...70% chance of showers with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the SE at 20-25mph (a bit breezy tonight).  Tomorrow looks like a possibility of thunderstorms in the morning as the breezes will be sticking around (SE 18-20mph) and then more unsettled weather in the evening.

A Hiccup In This Extremely Lovely Weather

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny (clouds just moved aside for Ms Sun) and breezy (Eastery 18-22mph) with dewpoint of 69° and humidity at 74%.  It'll pretty much a washout today as clouds aren't going anywhere and rains are due in by late this morning / early afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 70s.  Hunker down as winds will create havoc a little later out of the E-NE at 25-35mph +gusting.  It'll probably rain throughout the day into late evening and be pretty miserable.  Gale warnings are posted as seas will reach 11+ feet.  There will certainly be extremely strong rip currents. You could probably view some serious wave crashing action in North Wildwood as that ocean doesn't hesitate to breach the seawall when it's this windy and rough.  There's a "flash flood watch" posted meaning we could get some serious rainfall very quickly with the rainfall that's expected this afternoon into late tonight (2-4"). Entering and leaving the island when we're flooding is more successful when using the North Wildwood entrance and exit.  Wildwood seems to flood and close the base of the bridge leading onto the island.  Listen for flood sirens and move your vehicles to higher ground if need be. Get to know your arcades and there's always our movie theatre (Franks - Rio Stadium out on Rt. 9).  As for tomorrow...there are peeks of sun in the forecast as winds will have died down.  There's also a 50% chance of scattered rain showers and/or thunderstorms late in the morning.  At this time Tuesday is looking like best of next week so far.

TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood NJ.  The beauty of this weather continues with Ms Sun shining this early morn with no breezes to note. Dewpoint is 65° and Humidity is 74%.   It's quiet (except for the seagulls) and still (not one tree leaf is moving).  It's perfectly lovely down the Shore.  It'll be the last of the beauties today as a rain system with wind has us in its sights beginning tomorrow.  Today though, plenty of sunshine with breezes off the ocean (E-SE) at 8-10mph as temps hit 80°.  Tonight...mostly clear, temps in the low 70s and SE breezes at 12-14mph.
High tide:3:14p.m.
Low tide:9:22p.m.

So, I mentioned that ol' percentage for precipitation on yesterday's blog and that number is the key to what the chances are in having a wet weather day.  50% or lower is a pretty good chance you may not see any rainfall at all.  Tomorrow...has a 100% chance of rain (and wind) so count on a washout here at the Shore.  Sunday...60% so you'll probably have a break in rainfall although the wind is not going anywhere.  And, Monday...it's back to 80% chance of rain.  Tuesday...even though it's 60% chance of rain, it's looking clear with peeks of Ms Sun by afternoon.  These forecasts and/or reports change constantly so I'll continue to keep an eye on the upcoming week's weather for you vacationers looking for pleasant weather. Think positive!
Speaking of vacationers...here's the Friday Beach Tips which I should print and hand out to those ignorant folk who have no clue, never stop driving me crazy and leave me longing for September.  Yesterday...not one, not two, but  Three different nearby families provided their over-the-top Loud music all at the same time.  I had a compilation of Hip-hop, Latin and some Ed Sheeran blasting all at one time. We moved once (didn't help) and I saw someone get up and leave the beach because of it.   I should carry a megaphone and shout "Turn It Down".  I won't even begin my rant about the frisbee and football playing happening all around my blanket as their beach toys kept hitting my blanket or beach space.
Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette~
~Remember to pack water, hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, and shade (umbrella or sand chair with a canopy). Beauty On The Island

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Blog's a little late...my gardens came first this morning.  Blue skies abound as Ms Sun is shining down.  Humidity's 72% with a Dewpoint of 57°.  There's a North-Northeast breeze at 7-12mph making me feel very grateful for have the opportunity to live on a what resembles a tropical island today.  I do admit sometimes living here (now 14 years) is taken for granted.  But, every so often a start to the day like this one is a major reality check on how lucky I am.  It's perfection in my opinion.  Anyway...the perfection continues with a sunny, calm day with blue skies, temps just tapping the 80s, breezes out of the N-NE and switching by mid-day to S-SE all at 7-12mph.  Tonight...clear, temps in the low 70s with S-SE breezes at 7-12mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  The weekend...not so much.  It's looking gray and damp for the weekend.

I've had a few mentions noting the upcoming week's weather and I've been now keeping a close watch.  It's looking sinister.  By that, I mean every single day has "precipitation" in the forecast.  Here's the thing...I've always noted that when the forecasts read "50% or more" chance of precipitation, I personally would prepare for it.  It's leaning towards the real deal but it still may not rain (or fog or mist or snow or whatever). 50% chance is usually a percentage you might want to pay attention to though.  When it's 20%, 30% or 40% chance...I have seen many, many forecasts that say those percentages and it could be a mostly sunny day.  So, your guess is as good as mine but if we all put together our positive vibes and thoughts...some good will come out of next week's weather!

Lovely Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  It's perfectly lovely outside this morning.  We had a bit of unsettled, stormy, rainy weather last evening and it completely took that oppressive humidity away for now.  Dewpoint is 63° and Humidity's 61%.  There's a light breeze out of the North at 4-6mph making everything feel clear, clean, crisp and refreshing.  It'll be warm today with vivid blue, sunny skies, temps in the low-mid 80s and NW breezes at 8-10mph.  If heading to the beach...pack the insect repellent (always should be at the ready if there's any type of "westerly" breezes on the weather menu as the greenhead biting flies come with the westerlies).  Tonight...clear, temps down into the upper 60s / low 70s and breezes out of the S-SE at 5-8mph.  The weekend's looking "iffy" with 30-60% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms both days (Sunday being the lesser chance of the 2 days).

Tuesday Mix of Weather

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got us a foggy morning out there with a dewpoint of 73° and 94% humidity.  We're in the soup!  We've got some breezes coming out of the South at 10-15mph which will stick around and even ramp up a bit (20+mph) throughout the day and into tonight. It'll be another warm one with high humidity, and partly sunny / partly cloudy conditions as temps get up into the mid-upper 80s.  It'll be unsettled today as there's a 50-70% chance of rain and/or thunderstorms beginning later today (early evening) so keep a watch of the doppler.  Some storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Tonight...temps drop into the low 70s as those Southerly winds begin to shift from the North as this forecasted rain falls down.  Tomorrow...back to more settled weather as it'll be sunny and lovely.

Mostly Pleasant and Warm Today

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and warm with 76% humidity and 69° dewpoint.  The breezes our out of the SW at 8-10mph.  It's a lovely Sunday morning out there.  My airconditioner's on I have to admit as inside the house is much more comfortable at the moment!  It'll be another warm one (not too warm) today with temps in the low-mid 80s, partly sunny (clouds in the mix today) and breezes out of the S-SW at 8-10mph.  Tonight...mostly cloudy with temps in the mid 70s and S-SW breezes at 12-15mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same with a bit more humidity in the mix.  It's that humidity that gets ya and makes you feel overheated more than anything.  Bottom line...nice beach day!

Looking Very Good For The Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and calm (not much in the line of breezes).  Dewpoint's 62° and humidity's 75%.  The ol' salty marsh fragrance is coming over us from the SW and it's evident immediately when stepping outside this lovely morn. It'll be a warm, sunny day down the Shore with temps tapping the 80s and breezes out of the S-SW at 6-10mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the S-SW at 11-15mph.  Tomorrow...warmer (mid-80s) with some clouds in the mix with a 20% chance of showers tomorrow night into Monday.  One forecast that I research and trust to give mostly accurate reports never mentioned rain at all for Sunday or Monday.  Your guess is as good as mine but overall I'm going with this weekend being a keeper!  Oh...and btw, any forecast that has breezes with "west" in it...be aware that westerly winds of any kind can bring the biting greenhead flies so pack the insect repellent in your beach bag.

TGIFriday the 13th!

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and at'em with light breezes out of the E-NE at 3-5mph.  It's lovely.  Humidity's up there...85% and the dewpoint is 70° but it's still a perfectly lovely morning down the Shore.  It'll be summery and beautiful and warm again today. Skies will be clear and vivid blue with some picturesque clouds as temps climb near 80°.  Breezes will be out of the East at 9-11mph.  Tonight...clear, temps down to low 70s and breezes out of the S-SE at 7-8mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  Sunday may begin with showers but turn into yet another lovely day!  Great weather this weekend for the North Wildwood Blues/BBQ Fest (one of my favorites).

And...it's Friday and you know what that means...

New Moon Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Thunder and lightning woke me this morning as one of those scattered thunderstorms is passing over while I blog.  It's raining with no winds happening at the moment.  This is going to pass as Ms Sun is waiting in the wings brightening things up as it'll be a mostly sunny day with temps in the upper 70s (maybe tapping the 80s again) with breezes off the ocean (E-NE at 8-13mph).  There is a 15% chance of a passing shower today (might want to keep that in mind). Tonight...mostly clear and lovely with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the East at 5-8mph.  Tomorrow...much like today (once this thundery weather system clears on out).  The weekend's looking pretty good too (Sunday's the warm one). Hurricane Chris has headed away from the US coast too but the rips currents will still be felt today.  Take precautions while swimming in the ocean.  And, the "New" moon is today.  A New moon has the same effects and pulls on the tides same as a "Full" moon...note how high the tides get today and do your best "not" to drive through the salty, corrosive water.
High tide:7:55a.m. and 8:12p.m.
Low tide:1:42p.m.
Ocean temp:72°
Sunset:8:25p.m.

Rip Currents: Moderate (swim near a lifeguard, never alone or never a night)

Warm Hump

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a bit of a muggy morning with 72° dewpoint and 97% humidity out there.  We're under partial cloud cover but Ms Sun will rally and be shining down warming us big time today and very soon.  Temps will get up into the low-mid 80s but will feel like a warm one with the intense humidity and sunshine.  Breezes are nothing to note at the moment but will wift (waft) in from the E-NE, then E-SE then eventually East by this evening all at 7-9mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps down to the low 70s. Tomorrow...warm with a 20% chance of showers.  I can only hope as it's been pretty dry here with no rain since the end of June.  I've been on faithful watering detail as of late.  Oh...that ol' Hurricane Chris is still off the Carolina coast and creating some major wave action which is affecting us...we're seeing "moderate" rips currents so be very conscientious when stepping into that ocean!
High tide:7:00a.m.
Low tide:12:45p.m.
Ocean temp:76°
Sunset:8:20p.m.

More of the Same Loveliness

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling a little more humid (humidity's 81%). It's a beauty out there with Ms Sun pouring down and very light breezes out of the East at 2-4mph.  Oh...there's the aroma of the salty marshes too.  It all works perfectly well together.  It'll be a warm one today with plenty of sunshine and temps in the low 80s with W-SW breezes at 5-7mph.  Tonight...clear, temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the South at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  This Category I hurricane "Chris" is still off the Carolina coast and is creating dangerous rip currents off our coast at least until Thursday.  The sand will be extremely hot today...remember footwear.  And the "new moon" is coming this week (Thursday)...note the high tides will begin being higher than normal.

Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and calm (breezes out of the N-NE at 3-4mph) with lots of happy seagulls laughing in my neighborhood.  The AC is still off and all the house windows are wide open.  It's a lovely, cool, autumnish kind of morning and feels nice outside as well as in the house.  It'll begin to heat up beginning today as temps tap 80° with plenty of sunshine and breezes out of the S-SE at 6-8mph.  Humidity and dewpoint are low now but will begin to rise up throughout the week.  Enjoy today as it'll be a "10".  Tonight...clear, low 70s with breezes out of the S-SW at 7-9mph.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention hurricane Chris off our southern coast creating some rough surf for the Carolinas.  No Coastal Watches or Warnings are in effect.  As far as the Jersey coast is concerned, we're looking at very rough seas and dangerous rip currents by the middle of the week depending on how Ol' Chris moves about.  It's expected to head away from the U.S.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling a bit like that first day of school on an autumn morning out there!  It's a little breezy N-NE at 5-8mph.  Humidity's low and it's cool and refreshing.  It'll be a pleasant sunny day albeit breezy with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the E-NE at 15-20mph (pack the bungee cord to anchor those umbrellas).  Tonight...clear, with temps just tapping 70° and breezes out of the East at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow...sunny and warm as the winds check out with a near perfect beach day on tap!

Much Cooler and Windier Down The Shore

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  The heat and humidity took a "five" and is outta here for now.  It's cool and very breezy (E-NE 20-25mph) with Ms Sun shining down through some bits of cloud cover.  We've had a major shift in the summer weather for the next few days with low humidity and dewpoint.  It's currently 67% humidity with a 57° dewpoint!  Expect a mostly sunny day with some clouds in the mix and temps in the mid-70s and stiff breezes remaining out of the E-NE at 17-23mph.  No rain in sight.  Tonight...mostly clear skies with temps in the upper 60s and E-NE breezes still checked in at 10-13mph.  Looks like it'll still be breezy for tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and temps in the upper 70s.

Another Warm One

Mornin'!  It's 77 humid degrees in Wildwood NJ. There's 97% humidity out there. That means the air is saturated with vapor.  Everything's damp and a bit drippy outside.  I left 2 beach towels on the clothesline and when I gathered them first thing this morning, they were wetter than when I hung them yesterday afternoon.  I'll just wait for Ms Sun...she'll be taking care of the heat again today as temps rise to the mid-upper 80s.  It'll be another sunny, humid, hazy and hot day down the shore again.  There's not much to report about breezes (currently out of the South a 1-3mph).  Nothing's moving out there.  They will pick up today though (just in case...might want to pack a bungee cord for securing the beach umbrella) out of the S-SE at 10-15mph.  That'll certainly feel good at the beach.  Tonight...breezes shift from the S-SW at 15-20mph with temps where they are now along with cloud cover in the mix (20% chance of a passing shower or even a thunderstorm).  I have to once again mention that intense heat on the beach...essentials for a "safe and healthy" beach day: plenty of water, head/footwear, sunblock and umbrella (or sand chair with canopy).  The beach sand is burning hot and even with sandals or flipflops, it'll make its presence known when walking through it. There were hardly any people that took it in their stride.  Time and time again I saw beach folk running or just about running to reach the compact, cooler sand.  Yesterday, a young adult couple nearby enjoying their beach day were repeatedly applying sunblock yet were arranging their sand chairs to face the blazing sun all day without any cover whatsoever...no umbrella; no hats, no t-shirt, no break from the rays.  I was watching them both get a real dose of Ms Sun's rays. I pointed it out to my husband who said "We all have to learn."  Speaking of sunburn...you can get a bad burn from an overcast day on the beach.  Even when the sun's rays are hidden by haze or those milky clouds making the sun-worshipping more comfortable, no doubt you're getting Ms Sun's intense rays.
With all the scary beach day reality check...have a great time down the shore if you're here!
