Full Moon Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun couldn't shine any brighter this morning.  I need sunglasses in my house!  Breezes are light out of the S-SW at 3-5mph.  It's a lovely, brisk morning and will be a lovely day with sunny blue skies, temps in the upper 50s and S-SE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clouds roll in giving way to occasional rain showers (40% chance), temps in the low-50s and Southerly winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... 50% chance of rain early with sun peeking in later in the day, temps in the mid-upper 60s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... clear with a mix of some clouds, temps in the upper 50s and N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  It's the Full Moon (aka "Pink Moon").  It's name corresponds with the early springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to eastern North America such as the Phlox commonly called creeping phlox or moss phlox which is pink.  Not sure if we'll see that astronomical event tonight due to the cloud cover.  As the moon rises with the forecasted cloud cover the sun will set at the exact same time... 7:44PM.

Earth Day 2024

Mornin'!  Happy Passover! Tonight at sundown begins the first of 7 days celebrating the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.  Though the festival is meant to be one of rejoicing and celebrating freedom from slavery and rebirth by Jews who prepare by cleaning, attending Seders, refraining from eating most carbs as strict dietary laws are observed.  It's also Earth Day... Happy Earth Day!  On Earth Day we celebrate the beauty of the place we call Home.  Today we pay tribute to the incredible beauty of our planet. It couldn't be a more perfect day to observe its beauty and if you see anything out of place you may want to straighten things up a bit.  And, it's almost the Full Moon (it's actually tomorrow) and the skies should be perfect for an exquisite moon rise tonight.

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and gray again with light breezes out of the SW at 3-5mph.  We're going to have a cloudy start to the day with 25% chance of a rain shower or two.  In fact, it's raining along the coast north of us at the moment.  The sky will clear out as it'll become partly sunny by later this morning or later this afternoon.  It remains to be seen.  Temps will get up into the low-60s with West winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... mostly clear with a few passing clouds, temps will drop into the mid-40s with N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... another cloudy day with temps in the mid-50s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  It doesn't appear that we'll have any rain. 
It's 420!  Weed day! While no one can say for certain, rumors have circled that 420 was the code police used to describe marijuana smoking; 420 is the number of active chemicals in weed that get you high; April 20th was Bob Marley's birthday (it wasn't); that it's a reference to Bob Dylan's song "Rainy Day Women #12+35 (12 times 35 equals 420). In reality, it's much simpler... a group of high school students back in the '70s would meet after school (always at 4:20) to get high and eventually started using 420 as a code for meeting up and smoking weed.  Whatever the case, New Jersey has legalized marijuana. There are laws surrounding weed but Pot is legal in the Garden State.  The last I heard, there are over 100 legal recreational dispensaries in New Jersey.

And, before I forget... we could see a Comet flying through the sky tomorrow around Sunset. A bright green comet (12P/Pons-Brooks) known as the Devil and Mother Of Dragons, will reach peak visibility around then.  Looking west at sunset, you may spot it with binoculars.  It's time to pull out that telescope if you have one and hope the sky is clear tomorrow when the sun sets.

Another Beauty Up Ahead

Mornin'!  It's 54° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly in the clear, blue sky.  Breezes are light out of the N-NE at 4-6mph.  It's beautiful outside.  The salt air is aromatic and briny.  The island birds (especially the seagulls) are all loudly showing their pleasure in this gorgeous start to the day.  My windows are opened allowing this wonderful activity inside my home.  The windows have been opened  since yesterday morning.  By the way, we had a preview of summer yesterday as the temps got up into the mid-70s as the sunshine prevailed all throughout the day.  It'll be a bit cooler today but we'll have plenty of sunshine, temps in the low-mid 60s with N-NE winds at 5-10mph shifting to 10-15mph later in the afternoon.  Tonight... clear, temps around 50° and winds out of the South at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... cloudy early with showers in the afternoon, temps around 58° and SE winds at 10-15mph.  Chance of rain is 60%.

Tonight is 112 years that the Titanic hit an iceberg (11:40PM). It sunk at 2:20AM on the 15th of April as over 1500 victims lost their lives.  There were only enough lifeboats for a third of the people on board.  Only 337 bodies were recovered (one in five) as most sunk with the Titanic.  There are no survivors of the Titanic alive today.  The ship was never actually described as "unsinkable" as once thought.

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood NJ.  It's partly cloudy as Ms Sun rose almost a half an hour ago.  She's painting the cloud cover beautifully.  Winds are out of the West at 20-25mph +gusting up to 35mph.  Gale's in the house again today as there's a "Gale Warning" posted until 6pm this evening.  That means that today's strong winds will impact our waters creating hazardous seas capsizing or damage vessels as well as reduce visibility.  Mariners should alter plans to avoid these conditions.  
Expect a partly cloudy start to the day especially through this morning.  We'll gradually clear as temps rise into the low-60s.  Those west winds are staying checked in at 20-25mph +gusting up to 35mph.

Friday Mix With A Side Of Wind

Mornin'!  It's 53° in Wildwood NJ.  We've had a bit of a rough night with the rain and and especially the loud and strong winds. The rainfall was minimal as we had no heavy, steady, torrential rain. We had thunder and lightning mixed in during the middle of the night which woke me.  The winds had their way with us as it shoved open our gate and pushed into our yard knocking over trashcans.  And, it even blew over one of our heavy 5' potted evergreen trees.  Thankfully, nothing else seemed out of whack. 
We're currently under thick cloud cover with gray, almost foggy-like conditions from the wind driven mist off the ocean. By the afternoon, I was planting my Canna Lily bulbs that I had dug up last year and kept stored over the winter.  They looked great after being stored away with mulch in a box all Winter and even had little roots beginning to grow.  I also planted all my Zinnia seeds.  It's a bit on the early side of the planting season, but I couldn't wait!  Fingers crossed.

It was a lovely day here yesterday and I'm grateful to have witnessed yet another solar eclipse.  This time from my backyard.  The occasional light, wispy clouds not only cooperated but they added just enough drama to the movement of the moon as it covered the sun.  We had 80% coverage with a "partial" eclipse and didn't have the "totality" that was the word of the day but it was amazing to see just the same.  The temperature dropped from 62° to 53° as it became dusk in the afternoon and the sun took the appearance of a crescent moon.

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  Breezes are out of the NW at 15-20mph making it feel like 36°.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly through the clear, blue sky.  It'll be a partly sunny day with temps in the mid-upper 50s and NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting making it feel like the upper 40s.  Tonight... some clouds filter in with mainly clear skies overnight.  Tonight's temps will be in the low-40s with N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, temps in the low-50s with N-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps in the mid-40s with SE winds at 5-10mph.  Monday... mostly sunny with some milky clouds now and then and winds out of the S-SW at 4-7mph.

As for that eclipse on Monday which we'll see partially if those milky clouds do not prevail... Partial eclipse begins at 2:09PM; Totality begins at 2:50PM; Maximum is at 3:24PM; Totality ends at 3:58PM; and Partial eclipse ends at 4:35PM.

And lastly, as for yesterday's Earthquake... we certainly felt it here in Wildwood.  At least I did.  I began to feel the house shake a bit as I was walking in the upstairs loft where I was about to go into my bedroom and get changed.  My outdoor floor plants live up there for the Winter (under the roof skylight) and I simultaneously felt the house begin to sway and shake as I could see those floor plants begin to  tremble and shake back and forth. I then peered up to the overhead skylight at the top of the staircase and I could see (and feel) my house was slightly moving (shaking) opposite the backdrop of the house/roof next door.  It was completely weird and unsettling but it was obvious what was happening.  I was immediately aware that this was no dump truck making havoc rattling heavily down my street.  I ran down the stairs calling my husband as he was coming out of the downstairs bathroom hearing me yell his name. When I asked him "Did you feel that?", he said, "No."  I said, "I think we just had an earthquake!" We live 2hrs 20min. from Tewskbury NJ the epicenter of the 4.8 magnitude quake and thankfully suffered no damage.  Not one sand bottle fell from the shelf!

Clouds Not Checking Out Yet

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  We're actually waking to sunshine this morning!  Haven't seen the sun's rays shining in the windows of my home since the last morning of March.  Thanks to yesterdays rains, we're saturated and it feels raw and damp and more like 38° with the W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  I'm not sure how much sunshine we'll see as there's a pretty large mass of clouds on the west side of the island slowly making their way northeast and just beginning to create a cloudy sky.  Expect a partly sunny / partly cloudy morning with clouds increasing and by this afternoon... 50% chance of rain. Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  It's gray and misty and feels more like 40° with the windchill.  We're saturated from yesterday's downpours throughout the day and night.  Tides appear to be high tide but that's until 4:00pm this afternoon.  Expect another wet and windy downer weather day with cloud cover and some severe winds as temps rise into the upper 50s.  Showers are developing this afternoon with possibilities of thunderstorms (70% chance).  Winds will be the showcase as remnants of March still exist... E-SE at 20-30mph +gusting of 40+mph.  Tonight... rain, winds, temps in the mid-40s with West winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Chance of rain is 70%.  There's a COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY in effect until 8PM this evening.  Due to the inundation of rain and winds pushing the tide water onshore, low-lying areas and tidal waterways that are vulnerable and prone to flooding will be impacted.  Be aware of your low-lying areas and high tide times.  The back bay waters have their "High Tide" times an hour later than the ocean's times.  Tomorrow... sunny start to the day, increasing clouds later in the day, 50% chance of rain showers by the afternoon, temps in the mid-50s and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and West winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  As for this coming weekend... April Showers - Right On Schedule

Mornin'!  Welcome April!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining with winds out of the East at 10-15mph.  It's been raining since the middle of the night with thunder waking me early this morning.  At the moment it's coming down at a good clip. So, for quite awhile now, after much thought and contemplation, I've decided to hang up my blog and retire wildwoodweather.net.  April Fools!  I had to.  It's a thing.  I'm not going anywhere, god-willing.
So, like I said, it's raining and it'll be raining for a few days up ahead and that's no April Fools joke. Let's Get This Over With March

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 48° due to the winds which are currently out of the SE at 20-25mph. There's a "Wind Advisory" posted until 8AM tomorrow.  It's raining at a decent clip and will continue to rain steadily until this evening. Throw in a "Full Moon" which is not until Monday but pulling on the tides now making them even higher than normal during this Saturday storm and you've got yourself a "Flood Watch" posted along the Coast.  It's time to be vigilant as there's a very strong possibility of some major flooding happening today.  Know your high tide times, (high tide is an hour later on the bay/marsh side of the island), low-lying areas, be careful where you park and leave your vehicle, don't drive through flood waters and you might want to keep the wellies by the door.

Expect rain (heavy at times) along with very strong winds today.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 50s with SE winds shifting from the W-SW at 25-35mph +gusting.  At least 1-2" of rain is expected.  Tonight... decreasing rain as the clouds pull away.  Temps will be in the low-30s with N-NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with lots of cloud cover in the mix, temps in the upper 40's / low 50s with gusty winds out of the N-NE at 20-30mph +gusting.  Monday... mostly sunny, upper 40s and NE winds at 20-25mph.  Ending on a good note... Mornin'!  The start of Spring is today!  It begins officially at 11:06PM tonight.  It's happening in our Northern hemisphere where in the Southern hemisphere Fall begins today.  Almost everywhere on earth... 12 hours of sunlight today due to the way the earth's axis is neither leaning toward or away from the sun.  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ feeling like 28° with the windchill from the NW winds at 20-25mph.  It's cold out there.  And, the March wind (as March does so well) isn't making it feel like Spring this morning that's for sure.  It's partly sunny as we have a good amount of cloud cover this morning.  It'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day today.  Temps will be in the upper 40s feeling more like the upper 30s thanks to the winds.  Winds will continue to be still out of the W-NW at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, temps in the low 40s and the winds switching from the SW at 10-20mph. Tomorrow... mostly sunny with some afternoon cloud cover, temps tapping 60° with W-SW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the mid-upper 40s and NW winds at 15-20mph.  Thursday... sunny, mid-40s and still blustery.  At this time, the weekend looks like a washout down the Shore with rainy days in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

Last Day Of Winter

Mornin'!  It's the last day of Winter!  We made it!  It's 45° this morning.  The sky is mostly clear with Ms Sun working her way over the cloudy horizon (much like yesterday morning).  Winds are out of the NW at 15-20mph making it feel more like 40°.  We're going to have a sunny/cloudy mix today with temps around 50° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud cover, temps around 50° and W-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the mid-40s and SW winds at 10-20mph. Thanks for being kind to us this year, Winter.  We had no snow along our coast this winter (other than a light dusting) and not much to write home about for any flooding, storm or wind damage etc.  For that, I'm very grateful.  Until next year when those flipflops get stored away, see ya on the other side.

Mornin'!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Two more days until Spring!  It's 50° as Ms Sun's just beginning to peek over the clouds that are covering the horizon.  Winds are out of the W-SW at 10-13mph.  It's a lovely Sunday morning.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with temps in the low-60s.  Winds will be out of the West at 10-20mph.  Tonight... a few clouds, temps in the low-40s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps barely tapping 50° and W-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps in the low-40s and NW winds at 15-25mph.

St. Patty's Weekend

Mornin'! Happy St. Patty's weekend!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under pretty thick cloud cover with winds out of the N-NW at 5-7mph.  These morning clouds will give way to a sunny afternoon.  Temps won't be as warm as yesterday (72°) but will get into the mid-upper 50s with S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps where they are  now (upper 40s) and Southerly winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy, temps in the low-60s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... intervals of sun and clouds, temps around 50° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Monday night... mostly clear, temps dropping into the upper 30s with blustery, cold winds out of the NW at 20-30mph.  Even though March has been kind this year so far, my guess is that's it isn't through with us yet.

Last Weekend Of Winter Is Upon Us

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover as Ms Sun is brightening and painting the sky but not quite getting through.  Winds are light out of the SW at 10-12mph.   It's really nice outside.  It's nice to be home and feeling the salty, briny air again.  I had a lovely mini-vacation visiting my friend in the beautiful countryside and mountains of Berks County in Hamburg PA (approx 200 miles away).  The weather there this week was just perfect with plentiful sunshine and warmer than usual temperatures.  I stayed an extra day and almost stayed another extra day!  I'm assuming Wildwood enjoyed some of that lovely weather.  To put it in perspective, when I left Hamburg/Reading PA area it was 80° and when I arrived home yesterday afternoon (around 4pm) it was a balmy, beautiful 70° here.  My hyacinths are blooming!  And, I slept with the windows open last night! With it being only 4 days away, Spring is certainly in the air everywhere.  
Today will have considerable cloudiness with 40% chance of rain showers by later this afternoon.  Temps will be in the upper 60s with W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... 50% chance of rain showers, temps dropping to the mid-40s and North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with some cloud cover in the mix, temps in the mid-50s and N-NW winds shifting to the South at 10-20mph. Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps around 50° and winds out of the South at 10-15mph.  Sunday... a mix of clouds and sun, temps near 60° and variable winds at 10-15mph.  It doesn't look Wildwood will have any rain this St. Patrick's weekend.
