À bientôt February!

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood.  Happy Leap Year! See you in four years!  Wildwood is under clear brightening skies with Ms Sun about to rise and shine. No breezes to note as it's still and quiet except for the distant sound of the ocean waves crashing. That ol' briny beach-cooking aroma is heavy when you walk outside. We're supposed to be under cloud cover with light showers coming down and winds out of the West at 22-30mph.  Forget all that for now as none of that's happening at the moment. It's actually a lovely, clear morning and a nice way to begin the week and end the month.  By Noon today though there's a 60% chance of showers as clouds roll in sometime later this morning along with westerly winds at 26-39mph.  Temps will get into the mid-upper 50s as the clouds insulate us later.  Tonight...clearing with temps back into the upper 40s and breezes out of the West at 14-17mph.
High tide:12:11p.m.
Low tide:5:45p.m.
Ocean temp:39°
Sunset:5:52p.m.
Footnote: It's 1:45p.m. and we never had those ominous clouds and/or rain showers like predicted.  In fact, it' 61° this lovely, blue sky afternoon.  I just checked the doppler and nothing coming our way either.  It's a beauty to get out and enjoy this almost Spring-like weather!

February's Ending Rather Nicely

Mornin'!  It's 39° in sunny Wildwood.  Once again, Ms Sun's up and shining brightly over this wintry island.  It's cold and crisp and still.  Not much in the line of breezes but rest assured, they're coming.  It'll be sunny and breezy today with winds out of the S-SW at 17-23mph as temps rise into the 50s.  By later this afternoon...upper 50s and SW breezes 24-32mph w/gusts in the 40mph.  Tonight...upper 40s and those very stiff winds staying checked in.  Tomorrow (the last of February in this leap year) will be starting the day with showers and along with some of those leftover winds.

Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 33° in sunny Wildwood.  It's a beauty for a winter's morn!  Ms Sun's shining as brightly as can be.  Breezes are much lighter than the last couple days...W-NW 13-15mph.  Breezes will stay calm too as temps just about tap 40°.  Tonight...clear and SW breezes picking up again at ...18-26mph.  Tomorrow...sunny as even stiffer winds check back in.  Good luck to the Polar Plungers in North Wildwood this morning!

Breezy TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood.  We've got clouds above and winds roaring across the island.  It's cold out there and it's looking like another bad hair day with winds out of the W-NW at 28-34mph w/gusting.  The clouds are supposed to eventually clear out and give us a much sunnier day than yesterday.  Although the winds aren't going anywhere as temps hover around where they are now...mid-upper 30s today.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 20s/low 30s and NW breezes at 23-26mph.  For tomorrow...mostly sunny (some clouds in the mix) for the polar plungers. But when the gun goes off at 11a.m. and they begin running towards the drink, it'll be cold and in the upper 30s/lower 40s with breezes still out of the NW at 12-18mph and ocean temp of 39°. There's got to be a better way to raise money.  Sunday... nice with abundant sunshine and temps in the 50s.

Bad Hair Day!

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood.  We made it through another round of stormy conditions last night and by the looks of things in the morning darkness we're unscathed.  It's still windy but the sky is mostly clear and starlit/moonlit.  It's mild and dry outside with the overwhelming sense of "salty brine" in the air.  We're going to have a mix of clouds and sun today as those stiff winds continue to stay checked in throughout the day both today and tomorrow. Today's winds will be out of the W-SW at 26-40mph. The temps will be around where they are now and may even drop a bit into the mid 40s. Tonight...clear with temps in the low 40s, winds out of the West at 25-35mph.  Tomorrow...much of same as these winds have no intention of checking out yet. As for Saturday and the next round of "Plungers" into the drink (Fallen Hero Polar Bear Plunge in North Wildwood)...sunny, less windy and temps in the 40s.

Wednesday Wicked Weather With Wind Advisories

Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood.  We've got heavy cloud cover this morning.  It's providing insulation so the sounds of the surf crashing can be heard loud and clear and I'm 6 blocks from the beach.  Sounds like rush hour traffic on a nearby highway.  No breezes to write about at the moment but they're headed in this direction big time.  In fact, there's a "Wind Advisory" posted today and tonight.  The clouds are also going to provide moderate to heavy rain showers (with thunderstorms possible) and are due in later both this afternoon (60%) and this evening (80%).  You know the drill...local flooding is possible.  Today's temps will be around the mid-upper 50s as Southerly winds are heading this way at 27-37mph w/gusting.  A couple forecast I've researched said peeks of sun throughout the day are a possibility. Tonight... the wicked windy weather continues... 31-47mph winds w/gusting, showers and/or thunderstorms and temps in the low 50s!
High tide:8:51a.m.
Low tide:2:56p.m.
Ocean temp:39°
Sunset:5:47p.m.
FOOTNOTE: It's 3:00p.m. and there's another weather culprit we're watching for this evening.  And, it's called a "low level jet" which is a fast river of air not far above the ground.  According to Dan Skeldon (the expert local weather man), early tonight that low level jet will be the strongest right along the coast blowing 75mph (possibly up to 100mph) winds.  Severe thunderstorms can successfully form and track across south Jersey with the potential of bringing those strong winds down to the ground.  Potenially damaging wind gusts in excess of 60mph are very possible if this happens.  Time to hunker down!

Another Nor'easter!

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood.  It's cloudy and breezy and so far...dry.  The fragrance of the sea along with the sound of the surf crashing hits the senses the minute you're outside.  No sunrise this morning.  It'll be a wet one today plus windy as rain with winds are on the menu today and tomorrow.  The winds look like they may stay checked in through the weekend too.  It'll start raining beginning this morning (100% chance) through tomorrow night. We could get an inch or more today. Did you know that an inch of rain equals 13" of snow? Temps today will be in the mid-upper 40s with breezes out of the E-NE at 24-39 with gusting. Doubt if we'll see any white stuff. Tonight...more rain (periodically though) and winds out of East at 15-20 with temps in the low 40s.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  I know I keep repeating "tidal flooding" but coming off a full moon last night and 2 days of on and off rains it's a given that we'll see some flooding in the streets.  You've been warned.

Full Moon

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood.  We're under mostly cloudy skies.  I can see some clearing in the morning darkness with those big cumulous clouds breaking up overhead.  Once again, the fragrance of the sea is in the air...breezes coming from the N-NE at 10-15mph.  All forecasts seem to be agreeing with a mix of clouds and sun today as temps climb just a little bit higher...upper 40s/low 50s. Tonight...cloudy and back down to upper 30s/low 40s with Easterly breezes at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow and Wednesday...rain and more rain (100% chance) as temps stay just about in the same range they are today.  With the Full Moon today you never know about how bad the tidal flooding will be with all that rain and wind and high tides coming our way.  Might want to get the Wellies out.

99 days until Memorial Day!

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood.  Ms Sun just rose and is shining brightly. It definitely feels like a Spring morning. There's no biting winds and the fragrance of the sea is in the air.  It'll all change though as rain's due up next.  We should be expecting rain by this afternoon.  Breezes will commence out of the West at 6-8mph as temps get into the low-mid 50s.  Clouds will filter in and by mid afternoon the showers may start (50% chance) as breezes shift from the East at 13-15mph.  Tonight...60% chance of rain with temps dropping back down into the upper 30s/low 40s and NE breezes at 18-23mph. We should wake to Ms Sun again as Tuesday and Wednesday are looking like more rain in store.

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  We're under partially cloudy skies as Ms Sun's up and at'em.  It'll be partially sunny and cloudy as temps climb way up into the upper 50s.  No typo as the coast will have a nice taste of Spring today. Breezes will be out of the W-SW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...still of mix of cloudy/starlit skies with temps in the upper 40s and breezes out of the SW at 10-15mph. Tomorrow though...70% chance of showers as we'll wake to clouds.

TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 26° in Wildwood.  We're under clear, starlit skies with no breezes to note.  That'll all change though.  First off...Ms Sun's due to check in for her grand sunrise entrance.  Then, the clouds and winds enter into the picture.  We'll have a mix of clouds and sun today with temps in the upper 30s with breezes first out of the East, then the SE at 5-10mph, then by this cloudy evening...South at 10-20mph. It's still looking like a mild, spring-like, sunny weekend but now with a chance of rain Sunday evening (60% chance). Where'd that come from?

Decent Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood.  We've got some morning cloud cover and light, variable breezes.  Ms Sun's rising in about an hour as the clouds should make way for her.  We'll have plentiful sunshine today with W-NW breezes at 15-20mph as temps will be in the mid-upper 40s.  A complete 180° from yesterday's torrential rains/winds/floods/fog/50°temps...a raw, miserable day it was!  Today...Ms Sun's checking in for almost a week and her warmth will be much appreciated.  Tonight...clear and cold with temps in the low 30s and NW breezes at 8-12mph.

Tuesday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood.  All that snow that blanketed the island yesterday (2"+) is gone thanks to the rains and mild temps that came last night.  This morning we've got cloud cover and moisture in the air as those "freight train" winds out of the S-SE that are blasting over the island at 30-35mph w/gusting.  We're due up for some more wet stuff as it's looking like a rainy day (90% chance) with temps in the low 50s. One forecast mentioned the sound of "thunder" today. Tonight...clearing up a bit with some clouds sticking around providing a  20% chance of a snow shower as temps drop back into the low-mid 30s.  The winds will shift from the W-NW at 20-25mph.  Tomorrow (as well as the weekend) looks like nice with sun on tap and normal temps and breezes.

Presidents Day!

Mornin'! Happy Presidents Day! Yet another holiday and day off from work and I'm smiling at the monitor. It's 24° in snowy Wildwood. It's quiet and still with a nice gentle snowfall covering the island as I type. It's cozy in my little beach cottage with fireplace on and a steaming cup of joe by my side (got my warm boots on as the cozy little cottage has wickedly freezing floors). I have some "stay at home" projects and today will be a perfect weather day to tackle them.  Life is very good at the moment. It'll be snowing most of this morning but will eventually give way to rain by this afternoon.  Unfortunately, we could see a wintry mix when all that comes together.  It's cold now but we may see 40° before the day is over.  Winds will be out of the SE at 15-20mph. Tonight...we're gearing up for some Spring temps believe it or not as we may see 45° with winds out of the S-SE at 20-25mph as rain tapers off for a bit. Tomorrow...more rain due and mid 50s and 32 days until Spring!!!

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

Mornin'!  Happy St. Valentine's Day! It's 12° in Wildwood with a wind chill of -4°.  Don't fret as I'm hearing it'll be tapping 50° by Tuesday.  We have one hiccup before we get there though.  First, today's forecast which is sunny and balmy. Not!  It'll actually be the coldest day of the year with a high of 18° and winds out of the N-NW at 22-25mph w/gusting and a chill factor of -9°.  Ms Sun's up and will be providing abundant sunshine and hopefully warming us up a little bit.  This afternoon those painful winds will subside to 10-15mph and by tonight...light and variable.  By then, the clouds will drift in providing a 20% chance of snow.  Tomorrow...waking to rain, snow and sleet before turning to rain by late afternoon. 34 days until Spring!

Wind Chill Advisories Posted!

Mornin'!  Slept in today...blog's a little later than most days.  It's 24° in sunny Wildwood (Ms Sun's been up a little while now).  There are some cumulous clouds in the brilliant blue sky.  But the winds are the main attraction this weekend as they're-a-howling and making their intense presence known.  The chill factor is making it feel like 9° with the 30-35mph winds.  It'll be very cold as temps drop today. We're expecting a high of 20° and with those winds gusting to 40+mph...we're talking a "Wind Chill Advisory" posted by the Nat'l Weather Service.  Temps + winds = 10° below zero today and even lower tonight.  So...partly sunny and very windy is the forecast for today, tonight and tomorrow.  I keep trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Sea Isle City (a couple islands north of us) intends to continue with plans for having its polar plunge today (one of their island's biggest annual events).  I'm thinking not just that someone should pull the "cancel" plug but I'm sure tomorrow's Sunday newspaper will have lots of frostbite stories or even worse. Keep them all in your prayers as it is to benefit city wide events sponsored by the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization.  Thousands are running into the 40° ocean!

A Winter Blast is Checking In!

Sunset Beach - Cape May NJ
Mornin'!  It's 21° in Wildwood. Winds out of the North at 12-14mph making it feel like 7 degrees. It's clear and starlit as Ms Sun's due in about an hour and a half or so.  We're supposed to have some clouds checking in this morning as it may be an overcast afternoon.  Temps will barely tap the 30° mark.  Winds will be out of the NW at 8-10mph today but tonight begin ramping up out of the W-SW at 20-30mph and add to that tonight's 17° temps and we've got major brrrrrrrr.  We should be waking to single-digit temps, snow flurries and/or snow showers with those winds freight-training over the island. No doubt a soup making day tomorrow.  Oh how I long for Springtime in New Orleans!

Bad Hair Day Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 25° (11° chill factor) in Wildwood.  I'm back and happy to report came out unscathed from our last major flooding while away. Thankfully, I had caring folks keeping me abreast of what was coming down (I should say "coming up") from the tide waters last weekend. We currently have mostly clear skies (some cumulous clouds thrown in the mix) and very stiff winds coming from the W-NW at 31-33mph this early morning.  It'll be mostly sunny today as temps stay right around where they are now (including that chill factor) and will continue right into this evening. The winds are staying checked in until later tonight (NW 20-25mph) too.  Those NW Winds are driving that Ol' Man Winter right over the island while temps do their winter thing...dropping down to (sorry to report) 17° tonight and that's not the chill factor.  I'm afraid we're about to see the "teens" and even "single digit" temperatures as we head into the holiday weekend and the next round of snowy/icy winter weather (another snow system is headed our way).  I'm adjusting at the moment after settling in last evening from a sunny, mild New Orleans Spring (55-60° average temp) vacation! Just wish that freight train sound of those winds outside right now would give it a break out there in the icy darkness!  Welcome Home right?

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood.  We've got some winds and wet stuff pouring down in the darkness...wintry mix I think.  The sidewalk isn't icy but the skylight and vehicle windshields are coated with some snowy/icy/slushy mix.  It's been raining/snowing down all night long.  Don't fret as Ms Sun's due in by mid afternoon and she'll do a little warming meltdown.  This morning we'll have clouds and some more snow shower/rainy mix as temps begin to climb up tapping 40°.  Breezes are brisk and are out of the North at 30-35mph.  Tonight...clear,

Wet Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 53° in foggy, drippy Wildwood.  It's hard to tell if it's raining or not in the darkness.  But, it's wet outside and all you hear is dripping in the misty fog above the sounds of the surf crashing.  There's a breeze out of the NW at 10-15mph.  It'll be a gray, dreary one with temps dropping into the mid 40s and breezes kicking up from the NW at 18-24mph with a 30% chance of showers today. Tonight...overcast leading into a steady rain (100% chance) with temps in the low-mid 30s and winds N-NW at 10-20mph.  Sounds like a miserable day and night.  And, if that's not enough....we could be waking to the white stuff with Ms Sun peeking in for the weekend.

February's First Hump Day!

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood.  It's dark and breezy with lots of cloud cover.  Ms Sun's going to be sharing her space with rain clouds later this morning as we've got some rain due in today as temps creep up into the upper 50s (possibly tapping 60°).  The winds are coming from the S-SE and will get stronger and more intense at 25-30mph w/gusting as rain pours down (80% chance).  There could be thunder and lightning in the weather mix today.  Tonight...more steady rain (100% chance) with winds out of the South 28-39mph and temps down into the low-mid 50s.  Eventually, it will simmer down on the overnight with a light rain falling right into early tomorrow.  On a good note...the weekend's looking dry and sunny with temps in the mid 40s.

Another Winter Beauty - Groundhog Day

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood.  We're under starlit skies with light breezes.  It's a crisp, clear morning down the shore.  It'll be another nice one with Ms Sun pouring down and temps in the mid-upper 40s maybe even tapping 50°.  Breezes will be out of the N-NE at 11-12mph.  Tonight...breezes shift from the E-SE at 10-12mph as some clouds roll in (there's a very slight chance of light shower) much like last night.  Temps will be in the low 40s.  Windy showers are due up for tomorrow but so is the temperature as we could see upper 50s with all that wind and steady rain.

Welcome February!

Mornin'!  Happy February! It's 48° in Wildwood.  It feels amazingly like a Spring morning.  Very strange.  At the moment...we're under clear starlit skies with no breezes but things will be changing without a doubt.  First...winds will pick up from the SW at 15-19mph bringing cloud cover and rain showers by later this afternoon.  Temps will climb up into the mid-upper 50s.  There's a 60% chance of rain showers this early evening.  Tonight...90% chance of rain showers as temps drop into the low-mid 40s and winds shift from the NW at 12-14mph.  Tomorrow... back to sunshine with unseasonably warm temps sticking around.  I'd say a  nice way to rip off the last page of the calendar!
