Adios March!

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood.  At the moment it's early and still dark and starlit.  The skies are clear as the moon and stars are just lovely.  There's a light breeze and it feels cold but okay.  The clouds are checking in later this morning as there's a chance of showers developing late this afternoon.  We're talking 70% chance of rain as even some thunder could be in the mix.  Temps will be in the 50s as winds will be out of the S-SW at 16-18mph.  We may see peeks of sun here and there throughout the day, but most forecasts are calling for a rainy one this late afternoon/early evening of March.  Tonight winds shift from the W-NW and ramp up at 26-31mph as temps head back into the 40s.  Tomorrow we should be waking up to Ms Sun and that's no April Fools joke.

Beginning of the End

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood.  I had a nice weekend as the weather cooperated. While spending Saturday in Philly helping our son move, the weather was chilly but perfect "moving" weather with sun shining down. The ride back down the Shore on Saturday afternoon was a cloudy one and once back on the island...windy with a wintry bite in the air. Yesterday, once again nippy, but Ms Sun was shining down all day here. Had a productive weekend for sure. Had some Macks Pizza on their opening day Friday, got the car tuned up with new wiper blades (it'll be just in time for this week's rain events), got a loaf of Stock's pound cake (while in Philly) to store in my freezer for Easter, had all my living room lamps tuned up with new switches, made time to meet up with friends and enjoyed some fun time down the Shore.Lots of good reflection for this past weekend.
For today...it's still dark as daybreak is in about an hour.  It's cloud covered and dry but rain is due up next.  It's windy (SW 10-20mph) and will get even windier today as rain showers kick off the week.  Temps may just about tap the 50° mark by this afternoon and we may even see peeks of sunshine.  Tonight...clear and still windy (NW 15-17mph) as the rain clouds blow out to sea.  Tomorrow, the day the Lion takes a bow...looks like more wind and rain showers. This ending March/beginning of April with certainly be a mixed bag.

Palm Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood.  I'd say it's a tad on the chilly side.  Ms Sun's up and so are the breezes.  There's a wind chill factor out there. Time to throw another log on the fire. I have a scarf on as I blog and that's while I'm still in my nightgown and slippers. Okay, so it's sunny and the front of my home is filling with light and bright sunshine which should do the trick and begin to warm things up a bit. It's supposed to stay sunny all day as temps rise up into the low-40s. Breezes will stay checked in from the N-NW at 17-20mph. Tonight...clouds filter in as temps drop down into the low-30s and winds shift from the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow could start out with a shower...just saying.

TGIF - Happy Birthday to my Sis!

North Wildwood - before the Wall
Mornin'!  This one's for you Sis!  If it's wasn't for her this Blog of mine would never have gotten off the ground! It's 44° in Wildwood.  The clouds are kicking off the day as it's heavily overcast.  The winds are in the mix and knocking those clouds around coming from the N-NW at 15-25mph.  Even though it's still dark out, you can see the heavy, dark, ominous clouds mixed with the heavy white clouds moving past them at a very fast clip.  It's dry at the moment but the rains-are-a-comin'! There's a 70% chance of a steady rain this morning continuing right into the evening.  By tonight...30% chance.  The winds will be strong all day as well.  Temps will be around where they are now...mid-upper 40s.  Tonight...back into the 30's.  The weekend's looking "eh"...partly cloudy tomorrow with cold 30° temps and Sunday...mostly sunny with 40° temps.  Spring in the air?  Isch don't zink zo!  Oh...on a good note...Mack's Pizza (my personal fav) is having its official opening today at 11a.m. (weekends only for now)!!!

Soup's On!

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood.  It's thick with fog and drippy outside this morning.  I almost thought I heard a fog horn in the distance. Just kidding. It appears as though we're up against a rainy, drippy, wet day on the island. Temps will get up into the upper 50s as Southerly winds ramp up later (22-24mph) along with rain that's in today's forecast (80% chance) probably ridding us of the soup that we're experiencing at the moment. We might even hear a ripple of thunder along with the rain later. Tonight...clouds and temps dropping back into the mid-40s as those Southerly breezes shift to the NW at 10-20mph.  Still looking like rain on tap for tomorrow. Just saying.

Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 28° in Wildwood.  Yes...28.  We've got frost outside this morning I'm sorry to say as it's clear and still and wintry cold.  Everything's white with frost outside. You're gonna need the scraper if you're heading out early.  Ms Sun's due up within the hour and should take care of all of it. Clouds are filtering back in as it'll be a partly cloudy day again much like yesterday but with a chance of showers later.  Temps should get up into the upper 40s and maybe even tap 50° as E-SE breezes wift (I mean waft) over the island at 10-15mph.  Tonight...showers and fog with temps down into the 40s.  Tomorrow...rain all day into Friday.  Lot's of weather frustration around here as everyone's chomping at the bit for another warm, sunny, Spring day.  Can't see that one on the horizon.

Another Chilly One

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood.  Here we go again with another chilly morning.  It's cloudy this morning and a bit breezy.  It'll stay cloudy and gray most of the day with just peeks of sun (maybe later on).  Temps will tap 40° again but will still feel cold.  Breezes will be light and off the ocean (N-NE) at 4-8mph.  Tonight...a bit clearer than the day and temps dropping back into the low 30s.

Chilly Monday

Mornin'!  It's 31° in wintry Wildwood.  It feels cold outside as the breezes are adding to the cold, winter feel this start of the week.  It's clear and starlit as Ms Sun lies in wait to cross the horizon in just over an hour.  Today will be blue-sky, sunny and a bit breezy (N-NE at 10-15mph) with temps just tapping 40°.  Tonight...clear and temps back down to the low 30s.  We're not quite into the Spring-like weather we'd like to be but it's right at our fingertips!

Mostly Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood.  It's clear and crisp with a brilliant, deep red sky out over the horizon.  Sounds like a song.  I have a skylight on the second floor and when I stepped out of my bedroom into the hall everything was aglow in a deep shade of red...so beautiful.
Ms Sun's obviously been waiting in the wings for her grand entrance as the sunrise is happening as I type.  It'll be partly to mostly sunny today as temps rise up just a bit in the mid-upper 40s.  Winds will be out of the N-NW at 18-22mph sustained with gusting.  Tonight...back down into the upper 20s with more coldness and crispness.

Spring Saturday!

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood.  Well, we made it through without a snowflake on the island yesterday the 1st day of Spring!  I'm hearing surrounding areas got hit hard with the white stuff.  We had a major rain event yesterday and everything's still soaking wet.  There's some cloud cover looking very ominous at the moment and it's heading out to sea in dark gray bands as the breezes are guiding them.  Doubt if we'll see a sunrise but we'll certainly see Ms Sun today (probably by late morning).  It'll be partly sunny today as temps climb up to the 50s.  Winds will be out of the N-NW at 8-10mph.  Tonight...clear and temps in the upper 40s with breezes light.  Tomorrow...much colder and windier.

Happy Spring!

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood. Spring arrives today and with a bang! It's currently dry with a thickly cloud covered sky. The surf crashing is loud and clear. No breezes as it's very still and quiet except for the distant roar of the ocean. It's the calm before the storm. No Ms Sun visibly crossing the horizon this morning. We've got us somewhat of a Nor'easter up on tap today. It's due any time now. Wildwood's looking at rain throughout the day unlike the Philly folk who are supposed to get 3" of the white stuff poor things. No indication of that here today...just a major rain event (possibly a wintry mix to start off)...100% chance. We're looking at possibly ½inch of rain pouring down. Temps may tap 40° and the winds will begin to ramp up out of the E-NE at 15-25mph and by later this afternoon 25-35mph. By this evening...temps will be in the upper 30's as the storm drifts off to the Northeast. On the overnight...it's all out of here and we should wake up to a nice Saturday Sunrise. Happy Spring!

Last Day Of Winter!

The Wall - North Wildwood
Mornin'!  It's 30° in Wildwood.  We're under clear, starlit skies.  Not much in breezes happening but it's cold and crisp.  My first thought when I stepped onto the back porch was "shame we're not boarding a flight to Florida today."  We've been having some lovely tastes and teases of warmer weather recently and the wintry feel this morning along with knowing a wintry storm is on tap for tomorrow just makes me sigh. I may have been grimacing too.
On a good note, it'll be a sunny start to the day today.  Temps will just about tap 40° as breezes will be light out of the North at 5-8mph.  The clouds will filter in by this afternoon as temps drop back down into the low-30s tonight.  Tomorrow...the first day of Spring...wet as we could start out with a wintry mix though we're pretty much expecting rain all day into the night.  Temps will be in the 30s with winds and it'll no doubt feel cold and raw.  On another good note...weekend's looking not too shabby with some sun and warmer temps.

Last Hump Day of Winter!

1st Avenue - North Wildwood, NJ
Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood.  It's clear and starlit with those March Winds roughing us up. They're mean SOBs. They think nothing of blowing our secured gate open, pruning our willow or tossing our trashcan and trash all over. Or, better yet...blowing the pilot out in our hot water heater as the NW wind direction can at times provide such a strong updraft that it literally blows out the pilot and takes away our hot water like this morning. Winds are out of the NW at 28-35mph and will stick around until this evening when they simmer down some. They make it feel cold and wintry outside. Hopefully Ms Sun will warm us as she smiles down today. Temps will get up into the mid-upper 40s but will no doubt have a chill factor. Tonight...clear and breezy with temps down into the low-30s.  Tomorrow's looking a-ok.  Friday (1st day of Spring)..not so much as a wintry mix is on tap but it's looking more like a rain event down the Shore. The weekend's looking seasonably nice. I wanted to post that yesterday the temperature got up to 68° and was absolutely beautiful here.  You could (for the 1st time this year) smell the wonderful briny seaweed and sand warming aromas as the seabreeze came over the island! It was terrific.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood.  It's overcast with clouds covering the island. And, as expected the clouds cushion the sounds around us and make it possible to hear the ocean waves from 6 blocks away. The sounds of the winds howling will be the star attraction today though as they take away the stillness and bring in a cool front.  They'll be blustery and coming from the W-NW at 19-23mph later this morning. Temps will be in the upper 50s. By this evening the winds will have ramped up even more at 28-41mph.  There's a slight chance of a rain shower today at least until Ms Sun peeks out. It should be mostly clear by tonight.  The temps will drop tonight into the low-30s as those March winds take us down.  Looks like a great day for some corned beef and cabbage or shepherds pie!  Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Last Week Of Winter!

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood.  It's clear and crisp outside.  The stars are twinkling over our little island as dawn's about to break in just over an hour.  It'll be nice today as Ms Sun will be shining down as temps reach the mid-upper 50s and may stay there tonight.  Winds will be all over the place.  At the moment they're out of the NW at 10-18mph and by this afternoon will switch from the SW then this evening switch from the West at 10-12mph.

Ides of March

September Irish Weekend Bagpiper - North Wildwood
Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  It's the Ides of March...3/15 the day Julius Ceasar was assassinated.  Also, The Ides were supposed to be determined by the full moon reflecting the lunar origin of the Roman earliest calendar as the Ides of March would have been the first full moon of the New Year.  Not today though.  Anyway...I'm rambling this morning.  It's chilly and damp in Wildwood.  Yesterday's rains did a major soaking as the island's watered to the max.  So much so that hubby had to get the pump out to pump out our backyard so the flooding rain waters didn't enter our shed. Ms Sun just rose but is currently dealing with some major cloud cover that's drifting from the West right over the ocean as I type.  It's looking pretty ominous but don't fret Ms Sun's up for the competition today. It'll be a mix of clouds and sun today. Get ready as the March winds are checking in. It'll be the first preview of that intensity as they're coming from the W-NW at 27-42mph.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 40s.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 30s and winds out of the NW at 10-20mph.  5 days until Spring!

Washout

Summer Day - Wildwood, NJ
Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  It's raining at a pretty good clip.  And, will continue to do so all day today. It's definitely a St. Patty's celebration washout. The St. Patrick's Parade will be cancelled as an Irish Celebration will be held in North Wildwood's Rec Center at 9th and Central Avenue this morning.  Although on the miserable side, temps will be mild as we may see 60°. Winds will be out of the S-SW at 20-30mph. Tonight...more rain with winds out of the West at 15-18mph and temps in the mid-50s.  Tomorrow...starting out a bit dreary until Ms Sun shines down drying us and warming us with temps staying in the 50s.

Friday the 13th And 50/50s Across the Board

Mornin'! It's 33° in Wildwood. It's clear and crisp with a very light breeze. The moon and stars are shining brightly with not a cloud in the sky. That'll all change though. Let's begin with today shall we? It's looking 50/50 for today as the first part of Friday will be clear and sunny and relatively mild while the second part will have rain clouds filtering in this afternoon. It'll be a 50/50 weekend as this second week of March ends on a pretty decent note (I'm still scratching my head by how kindly March has treated us this past week). Sunny today with temps in the mid-upper 40s. Breezes light and variable out of the South. By late afternoon/early evening the clouds will have filtered in and by tonight light rain will begin falling. Temps will stay in the mid-upper 40s as breezes will be out of the S-SE at 10-14mph. Tomorrow...rain, rain and more rain with highs in the mid-upper 50s. Sunday...cooler (high 40s) with Ms Sun doing her best to peek out through any clouds left over from rainy Saturday.

Looking Good!

Mornin'! It's 41° in Wildwood. The sky is clear, starlit and moonlit. It's quiet with hardly a breeze. No sounds of the ocean today.  It's looking like a nice one again today as March has been kind to us this week (touch wood). We've been experiencing some lovely Spring-like weather as of late down the Shore. No exceptions today as temperatures will climb up into the 50s as Ms Sun pours down.Winds will be out of the NW at 9-14mph.Tonight...back down into the 40s. Friday night into Saturday night is looking wet but the rest of the weekend's much like today and not shabby at all.  Spring's in one week!

Gray Hump Day

Mornin'! It's 48° in Wildwood. It's raining lightly. The snow is gone. I see none anywhere! What a difference a week makes. The rain gave us a nice cleansing. It'll continue to do so as morning/early afternoon showers are on the menu for today. Breezes will wift (I mean "waft") in from the NW at 13-15mph. Temps will get up into the low-mid 50s as the clouds stick around most of the day today. We'll have some clearing tonight as temps drop into the low 40s and breezes pick up from the NW at 18-25mph. Ms. Sun returns tomorrow for one day as it's looking gray, dreary and wet right up until she peeks in on Sunday. 10 days until Spring! 100 days until Summer!

Rain Likely

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood.  The sky is mostly clear and starlit as the sounds of the surf crashing is heard from my back porch (six blocks from the ocean).  There's something so remarkable about the sound of the ocean waves crashing.  Today I'd rather it be summer as I lay on a beach blanket being lulled to sleep by its rhythm.  The daily tasks are at hand and those ocean sounds could just be a heads up that rain is likely as this morning's light cloudy haze will insulate the sounds of the surf so folks like myself can hear it loud and clear..   It'll be clouding up a little later today as on and off rain showers will be slipping in by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-50s (no typo).  Breezes will commence from the E-SE at 5-10mph and shift by the South tonight. Tonight, the temperature drops back into the low 40s.  There's a 90% chance of rain today and tonight.  Expect some overflow of rain showers into tomorrow as the clouds have no intention of checking out completely until Thursday. And, btw...Saturday's looking like the next day for rain.

Somewhat Mild Monday

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood.  We're still in meltdown mode as there's much less snow out there than when I turned in last night.  We're currently under partial cloudy skies with the moon doing its best to shine through them.  These morning clouds will gradually move out as it'll be mostly sunny today as temps climb up to the low-50s.  Winds will be out of the NW 7-8mph.  Tonight...clouds roll back in as breezes shift from the NE at 7-9mph and temperatures drop back into the low 40s. Enjoy this decent looking Winter's day as we've got a couple of rainy ones for tomorrow and Wednesday.  One way or another, the snow's outta here!!! 11 days until the 1st day of Spring!

Sunny Sunday

5th Avenue Boat Ramp - North Wildwood
Mornin'!  It's 36 balmy degrees in Wildwood!  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  The snow's melting as the first thing you hear when stepping outside to check on things is dripping coming from everywhere.  There's a light breeze out of the W-SW at 7-8mph.  We're in store for a major meltdown today as Ms Sun's going to be warming us up a bit as temps climb up into the mid-upper 40s.  Who knows, maybe we'll even see 50° on that ol' back porch thermometer.  By noon the winds will have picked up from the W-NW at 20-28mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the mid-upper 30s and winds out of the N-NW at 7-8mph.  Tomorrow...even warmer than today and Tuesday...rains are-a-coming and hopefully giving the island a good washing down.  Enjoy today.  Enjoy that 7o'clock sunset now that we're on daylight savings time. Turn The Clocks Ahead Tonight

Mornin'!  It's 21° in sunny Wildwood.  It's so amazingly sunny in the house (once I pulled open the blinds and curtains) that sunglasses could be an option. This bright white from the sun and snow is creating major brightness pouring in.  Can't be fooled though as it's crisp and cold out there as this weekend begins.  I slept in a bit and woke up to a pooch cuddled next to me with the aroma of coffee brewing downstairs.  It's the little things.  It'll be a sunny weekend.  In fact, it'll be sunny until Tuesday according to all the forecasts I've checked.  Today will be in the upper 30s with winds out of the West at 10-13mph.  Tonight...low 30s  and S-SW breezes 5-10mph.  Tomorrow...daylight savings time and warmer.  No doubt some major meltdown as Ms Sun and higher temps (mid-upper 40s) are up next.   Don't forget about the clocks tonight!

Abundant Sunshine Today

Mornin'!  It's 10° in Wildwood.  The Full Moon and Stars are shining brightly as Ms Sun lies in wait for her grand entrance.  It's Antarctica out there as everything's covered in about 5" of snow.  All that light fluff is now hard and crunchy in the frozen tundra.  We got hit good beginning yesterday afternoon into the night but from what I see and hear, we missed the 9-10" bullet.  It'll be cold and sunny today once the sun crosses the horizon.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 20s as winds commence out of the N and shifting to the SE at 10-15mph.  I'm sure we'll have some meltdown beginning today.  Tonight...clear and cold and back into the teens and frozen tundra as winds will be light and variable.  The weekend's looking bright and sunny with temps in the upper 30s-low 40s so more meltdown's on the way.

Winter Storm Warning In Effect Until Tonight - Bring It On Thor!

Mornin'! It's 37° in Wildwood.  That temp is supposed to drop to 22° in a couple hours as the North winds (20-26mph) bring the next storm (Thor). It's the Full Moon although we're going to miss it today and probably most of tonight.  New Jersey's under a state of emergency so says Governor Christie. It's currently raining but will make the transition to an icy mix any time now.  By late morning... a significant snow storm will take over and begin to dump 5-8" of the white stuff throughout the day and evening.  Tonight... snow showers and a low of 12° with winds simmering down (N at 10-15mph).

Don't Put The Shovels Away Yet!

Mornin'! It's 40° in Wildwood. More meltdown is happening as I blog. It's been raining since last evening and is pouring down at a pretty good clip (rainfall amounts ¼"). Winds are out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  It's going to rain all day as the plowed snow piles melt away right before our eyes. We're coming into this month's full moon tomorrow and flooding on the island will be an issue without a doubt. Today's temps...a tad warmer than now rising to 42°. Tonight...more rain with temps heading down into the low 30s. Winds will be out of the N-NE at 5-10mph. Rain will turn into a wintry mix, then the next snow storm enters the scene as lots of snow is on the menu. Snowfall amounts look like we could get as much as 8" and some forecasters have said 10" beginning very early tomorrow morning. 16 days until Spring...yeah right! I should be saying 108 days until Summer!

Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood.  It's cloudy as Ms Sun's waiting in the wings.  It looks like she'll once again make a spectacular display of color as she rises.  After that...we go downhill.  By mid-day things will become the norm around here...a mix of rain and snow that is on its way.  It should stay mostly rain as the temps will be around the mid to upper-30s (60% chance of precipitation this afternoon).  It's supposed to rain on the overnight into Wednesday as temps rise into the mid-40s (no typo).  Today's winds will be out of the E-SE at 6-8mph.  They'll shift during the night from the S-SW.  This is a slow-mover unfortunately so we'll see the wintry mix and wetness for the next three days including some snow accumulation on Thursday.  The sun returns Friday.   Just a reminder...rain along with the higher temps = big meltdown + full moon = higher tides.  You do the math.

18 more days till Spring!

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood.  It's amazing outside as everything's ice coated.  There's a Winter Weather Advisory posted as the conditions are hazardous.  I just heard that Margaret Mace School has a late opening.  Not sure about the others, but I'm sure they'll follow suit. Getting off your front porch will be quite a challenge this morning.  A chance of rain, freezing rain, and sleet before 9am, then a slight chance of rain and sleet between 9am and 10am. Patchy freezing fog and clouds through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 39. Breezy, with a northwest winds at 14-19 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon as Ms Sun should be doing some peeks over the island . Chance of precipitation today is 30%  Tonight...clear skies and low of around 18° with winds out of the NW at 5-10mph.

It's March!!!

112 days until Summer
Mornin' and Hello to March!  I'd say "Happy March" but if you've read my blog from pasts March blog entries...you know how I despise this month as March's weather seldom makes me happy.  Even though March holds Spring, it's the most violent of all the months on the calendar in respect to being on the coast with cold raw dampness, mist, fog and winds.  Being a Philadelphia native, March meant the beginning tastes of Spring... the sun's rays a tad warmer, start of meltdown, sounds of birds, buds on trees, Spring bulbs peeking out, daylight savings time, a warm day here and there, the fragrance of the beach warming under the sunshine, you know...all the stuff that prepares you for the next warmer season or better yet...the realization that you survived another winter.  Not in Wildwood as you have to wait until April to experience the likes of Spring and all of the above mentioned.   It's something I'm still trying to adapt to as March down the Shore is cold and raw and as windy as you can get most days.  In fact so windy and uncomfortable some days it's provoked me to screaming into the thunderous, freezing gusts, "STOP! ENOUGH!"
So, for this first day of March...it's 22° in Wildwood.  It's overcast and cold.  Everything's still snow covered and crunchy.  No winds today!  It's like March has an eyebrow up with a smirk preparing to throw its intensity our way when we least expect it.  Today's temps will hover around the low-mid 30s as we wait for the next storm to arrive.  By late this morning/early afternoon we'll see snowfall which will turn to freezing rain sometime this afternoon.   And again...very light and variable winds.  Chance of precipitation - 100%.  Less than an inch of snow/ice accumulation.  Tonight...cloudy with periods of freezing rain as temps drop to the low 30s/upper 20s.  Ms Sun should be checking back in by tomorrow afternoon.
