Leap Year!

Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ this last day of February.  As for this extra day this year of 2020... we have "leap years" because in reality it takes the Earth 365¼ days to circle the Sun (solar year) which means our Calendar is off a ¼ of a day every year.  So every 4 years we add that extra day to February to even things out for the Calendar.  This recent month of February was really kind to us this year.  As there was not a drop of snow along with many of those beautiful, unseasonable "warmish" days. I truly appreciated that. Not sure what's coming beginning tomorrow for the next 31 days with you know who at the front door.
We're currently under a clear sky as it lightens with Ms Sun's rays this early morning.  Sunrise is in about 4 minutes.  Breezes are light out of the W-NW at 10-12mph.  Expect a sunny start with afternoon cloudiness.  Temps will get into the upper 30s with blustery conditions.  W-NW winds are on the menu at 15-25mph +gusting so expect that windchill.  Tonight... partly cloudy with temps in the upper 20s / low 30s with NW winds sticking around at 15-25mph making for a 20° windchill.  Tomorrow... sunny, warmer (mid-40s) and those W-NW winds at 10-20mph +gusting. Monday... even warmer and partly sunny and windy.  Strap in as March is knocking and is usually brutal when it comes to those cold, unrelenting, coastal winds.  March is a pain in my ass.  Sorry, I had to.  Until next year February...

The Last Friday

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 25° with the W-SW winds at 15-20mph.  It's clear and starlit.  The moon is only 20% visible as the next full moon is 9 days away.  It's coming down to only hours left for February as March is already roaring and showing its ugly turbulent teeth. We had one hell of a blow yesterday.  If you're a faithful reader of my blog than you know that March is my least favorite month since I've been living down the Shore.  Instead of serious sneak previews of Spring that the mainland and the big City get... here on the island, March roars with incessant, countless, cold, blustery days.  Sometimes it's so irritating you find yourself screaming into the air to "stop".
Anyway... today's no exception for some more blustery conditions.  Expect a mainly sunny start with afternoon clouds blowing in.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 40s (it'll feel like the mid-upper 30s) with W-SW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear to partly cloudy with temps in the low 30s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny but colder than today with a high in the mid-30s.  Of course those W-NW will continue to be checked in at 15-20mph making it feel like the mid-20s.  And surprisingly, first of March (Sunday) will be sunny with temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds on the more tolerant side at 10-15mph.  It still remains to be seen.  Ending on a good note... 20 days until Spring!

Sunny and Blustery

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  Yesterday's and last night's rainy weather system is now off the coast!  The wailing winds have been pushing it away.  It's clear and blustery with West winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Windchill is 29°.  It'll be a sunny day with gusty winds through tomorrow.  Today's temps... mid-40s feeling like upper 20s / low 30s with that windchill.  Tonight... clear and windy.  Temps in the low-30s with Westerly winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... partly sunny / partly cloudy with a high of 46° and still blustery.  The weekend's looking sunny and much calmer although still a bit breezy.

Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  It's overcast and damp.  Breezes are light out of the E-NE at 4-6mph.  Today's looking gray again with plenty of cloud cover including morning fog.  We had some very thick ominous fog late last night which was very cool. There could be peeks of afternoon sun trying to break through the cloud cover as well as E-NE breezes at 8-11mph.  Tonight... foggy and rainy but expect rain with possible thunder as the temps drop to the low-mid 40s.  E-SE winds will begin to kick up and then shift from the West at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny with gusty winds (West 25-35mph +gusting) with temps in the low-mid 40s (feeling like the low-30s).  The upcoming weekend appears to have plenty of sunshine but colder temps (mid-30s).

Happy Mardi Gras and Fassnacht Day!

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover.  Everything's wet and drippy from the overnight rain showers.  Breezes are light out of the South at 3-5mph.  Expect a rainy day today as a wet weather system is headed our way as I type (90% chance of rain today).  Temps will rise up a few degrees as we'll be in the upper 40s.  E-SE winds are coming at 5-10mph with a switch by dinner time from the E-NE at 5-10mph as well.  Tonight... cloudy skies, areas of patchy fog developing, temps in the low-40s and winds will be light and variable.  Tomorrow... cloudy and mild (50°) with 50% chance of rain showers tomorrow night.  Thursday looks like Ms Sun returns along with a blow as the wicked winds will whisper and moan!  Today... eat cake!

Sunny Start - Cloudy Finish

Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with calm SW breezes at 4-6mph.  It'll be a sunny morning as clouds intend to roll in this afternoon.  Expect a mix of clouds and sun leading to cloudy skies by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-50s with S-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Tonight... thick cloud cover as rain is due in overnight (70% chance) with temps in the low-mid 40s and S-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  We'll probably wake to rain as tomorrow looks gray, wet (60-80% chance) and dreary with temps in the upper 40s and winds light and variable.  I'm thinking tomorrow could be a good homemade soup kind of day. Got some tripe in (from a Philly meat market this weekend) for a nice pot of Pepper Pot Soup! The rest of this week seems to be lacking sunshine just an fyi.

Breezes are currently out of the West at 9-11mph making it feel like 25°.  We're going to have a nice warm up today as Ms Sun shines throughout the whole day with temps tapping 50°.  Breezes will be out of the W-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear with temps in the upper 30s along with those W-SW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... almost a repeat of today with warmish temps and even lighter breezes than today.  I'll be back Monday as Pop and I are heading to the big city for a babysitting gig this weekend.  Can't wait!  Enjoy the sunshine and salt air if you're down the Shore this weekend!  And, only two more weeks until daylight savings!

The forecast looks like cloudy skies the first half of the day as Ms Sun peeks in this afternoon.  Temps will rise only a few degrees as the upper 40s appear to be on tap.  W-NW winds will wift (waft) over us at 8-12mph.  Tonight... clear to partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 30s and winds out of the N-NW at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... more cloud cover with a high of 37° and a windchill apparently.  At this time, the weekend's looking sunny and chilly with temps in the low-40s.

Mild But Mostly Gray Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with breezes out of the E-SE at 8-10mph.  It feels nice outside... quiet and peaceful with the ocean's roar in the background thanks to that cloud cover insulating the sound of that pleasing rumble.  And, that's a good 10 minute walk to the beach from here. We might see Ms Sun peek through.  It'll become overcast and completely gray by this afternoon as temps hit the low-mid 50s.  Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 8-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy with 60% chance of rain showers.  Temps will drop to the low-mid 40s with W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... beginning with rain showers and cloud cover turning to partly cloudy and then partly sunny by afternoon.  Temps will continue to be on the mild, unseasonable side... mid-upper 40s.

Happy Saturday!

Mornin'!  It's 18° in Wildwood NJ.  With the light NE breezes at 5-8mph it feels like 11°.  Winter's returned!  Even with this incredibly mild winter so far, hubby keeps saying "We may be in Wildwood but we're far from out of the 'woods' with winter weather."  Plus, he thinks we're going to see snow before Spring arrives.  I hope he's wrong.  One thing's for sure... it's very wintry this morning.  On a warm note... Ms Sun's up!  She's shining brightly and beginning the day's warm-up.  Expect mostly sunny skies the first half of the day as temps rise into the low-mid 30s with breezes out of the E-NE at 4-6mph.  This afternoon clouds roll in as it'll be partly sunny / partly cloudy.  Tonight... mostly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 30s and S-SW winds at 9-12mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy with slightly higher temps (mid-upper 40s) and just about the same for Monday.  Good luck to the Sea Isle City Polar Plungers today!  Always an amazement to me that folk have the courage to run into the sea in the winter.  Sometimes I have trouble going into the ocean during the summer!

Happy Valentines Day!

Mornin'!  Happy Valentine's Day! It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling quite chilly outside this morning... nice and crisp!  We're under partially cloudy / clear skies.  Ms Sun's on her way and pushing through those leftover clouds while rising as I type.  It's actually making for a breathtaking scene along the beach. Winds are out of the NW at 10-15mph.  Today's weather menu will have plenty of sunshine but colder than we've been experiencing as of late.  Temps will stay around where they are now (mid-upper 30s) with a  windchill of mid-upper 20s due to the NW winds 14-18mph.  Tonight... clear with a low of 25° feeling the teens with the North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... just about the same as today with sunshine, afternoon clouds filtering in and a high of 34°.  The Sea Isle Polar Bear Plunge is tomorrow at noon... good luck with that!  While heading into more seasonable, colder, winter weather, here's a fun fact... since weather record keeping began (141 years ago), the warmest January in history was recorded last month!  And, just for the record... Sam's Pizza opens today!  Although I'm a Mack's Pizza girl... I'll take a slice of Sam's any day.  Cheers!

Rainy Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  We're gray and cloudy again with breezes out of the SW at 7-11mph.  It's damp outside from the overnight showers and this morning's mist.  Looks like another gray, wet day ahead with 80% chance of rain showers evolving into steady rain (heavy at times) for the afternoon.  Temps will be unseasonably  mild and rise into the mid-50s by mid-late afternoon.  Winds will be out of the W-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy with temps dropping into the upper 40s and winds out of the NW at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny and 20° colder with a high of 35° and winds blowing at 15-25mph out of the NW.  Sounds like a possible windchill with that one.  The weekend's still looking dry albeit partly sunny and much colder than we've recently been accustomed to (highs of 35° to 45°).

Rainy Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 50° in Wildwood NJ.  It's gray and rainy with SW winds at 7-10mph.  It was raining at a pretty good clip a little while ago but has simmered down to light rainfall at the moment.  It's actually a perfectly miserable morning (the reason why I curled up and slept in and why the blog's a bit late).  It'll be a washout today with 100% chance of rain and temps unseasonably mild in the low 50s.  Winds will shift to the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy with 20% chance of rain showers and temps dropping into the mid-upper 30s and NW winds ramping up at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... a mostly cloudy day (peeks of sun as well) with rain showers returning tomorrow evening plus it'll feel much cooler with temps in the low-40s. Full Snow Moon Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  Its bright and sunny with breezes out of the W-SW at 3-5mph.  It's a perfectly lovely winter's morn.  Expect a sunny day with temps in the mid-40s and S-SE breezes at 6-9mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, turning partly cloudy with temps in the low-40s and Southerly breezes at 8-11mph.  Tomorrow... considerable cloudiness with rain showers expected in the afternoon.  Temps will be in the 50s though.  The Full "Snow" moon has peaked this morning and we should be able to see the moonrise this evening.  Our daughter in Georgia certainly can vouch for the "snow" moon as the white stuff blanketed the Atlanta area yesterday big time!  We had a lovely sunny day yesterday along the east coast and she had snowfall all day in the deep south.  Go figure.

Back To Calm

Photos taken in Wildwood - February 2010
Mornin'! It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear as Ms Sun's about to brighten things up a bit.  Breezes are out of the West at 10-15mph.  It almost feels like there are no breezes after yesterday.  Jeez.  Lot's of trash strewn and tree branches down from that bad boy.  I'm not complaining.  We surely lucked out compared to the areas surrounding us.  Scary though and my pooch looks no worse for wear after spending much of the day hiding out due to those incessant wailing winds. It was reported that wind damage was occurring all around thanks to those winds yesterday.  Cape May Harbor reported 73mph gusts.  Almost all of Somers Point was without power at one time.  And, 25% of Hammonton was too.  I did hear that power was restored pretty quickly.  Hearing power outtages did take me to 10 years ago this week when we were without power in Wildwood for 6 days - photos added on today's blog.  Something good came out of that tense and edgy week... we booked our very first trip to Key West when we were up and running and have called it our vacation spot ever since!
As for flooding yesterday... we did have some tidal flooding in the low-lying areas yesterday including the area of construction at the foot of the Redding Bridge which was closed due to it.  It's all behind us now and it feels as calm as a cucumber (whatever that means) at the moment.  It does feel wintry and cold and crisp when stepping onto the back porch.  There's a layer of white frost on everything which no doubt will be dissipating soon enough.
Expect a bright sunny day with winds out of the West at 10-15mph  Temps will hover in the mid-40s.  Tonight... clear and brightly lit by the moon (the Full Moon is coming in the very early morn tomorrow).  Temps will drop into the mid-30s with S-SW winds at 2-5mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny one!

High Wind Warning Posted Today

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  Wildwood's saturated this morning.  We've had rainfall all throughout the night and begin a new day with very foggy, misty conditions.  The temps are mild but that dampness feels cold and raw.  Expect a couple leftover showers and even a thunderstorm or two this morning (50% chance) as the winds begin to pick up adding to the weather intensity but also beginning to push these rain clouds out of here.  Thanks to the forceful, blustery winds today, we should see bright blue skies and plenty of sunshine by this afternoon.  Temps may tap 60° but then begin falling until they reach just about 40° by early evening.  There is a "High Wind Warning" posted for today. These (possibly damaging) winds will be out of the W-SW at 25-35mph and could occasionally gust to over 50mph.  Tonight... mostly clear and windy.  Temps will be in the low 30s with W-NW winds at 25-35mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny with temps in the mid-40s.  The West winds will have simmered down a bit... 10-20mph.  Sunday looks like a repeat of Saturday but without the gusty winds. Oh... the Full Moon is Sunday too and will no doubt have an effect on the tides.  Be aware of any waters settling over the island.

Thursday Washout

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood NJ.  We're in the midst of morning rain showers as we're having a S-SW blow at 10-15mph.  It rained most of the overnight as we're soaked and at the moment... no signs of tidal flooding.  Ottens Harbor nearby is swollen and it appears the waters could spill onto the street at any moment.  There is a Tidal Flood Watch posted from 1pm today until tomorrow afternoon.  Remember that the back bay / marsh area has high tide an hour later than the posted time (ocean's tide times).  And, the Full Moon is Sunday which creates higher than normal tides.  Be cognizant of where you drive or park your vehicle.  And, don't drive through corrosive flood waters.
Expect periods of rain today (95% chance) with temps in the low 50s.  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... periods of rain (100% chance).  Temps in the mid-upper 40s and South winds at 15-20mph.  We could possibly receive over an inch of rain before the day's out.  Tomorrow... rain in the morning and by later morning / early afternoon... we could have just a mostly cloudy day. Saturday... Ms Sun returns as does the cooler temps (low 40s).  Sunday... the wet conditions previously forecasted are null and void as it looks mostly sunny.  However, Monday and Tuesday remain rainy as posted in the weather reports.  It's looking like a homemade pot of soup day... "Squash Bisque"!

The Gray Days Are Checked In

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  We're once again under thick cloud cover with breezes out of the NE at 5-8mph. We're in a very damp situation outside but no rain is coming down at the moment.  It'll be cloudy today with temps in the low-mid 40s with NE breezes at 10-15mph.  Chance of rain showers are low the first half of the day and increase as we head into the evening (20-90%).  It doesn't look like we'll see peeks of sun like yesterday.  Tonight... rainy with temps in the low 40s with E-NE breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow looks like more rain with temps in the 50s again.  Friday looks like more rain as mild temps continue.  Saturday looks like the "keeper" with a mostly sunny day but with colder temps (low-mid 40s).  And, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week look like rainy days.  Do ya think we're in the rainy season?  Hey, it could be snow!

Gray Unseasonably Warm Day

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under some moderate cloud cover this morning as Ms Sun's on her way over the horizon.   Breezes are currently out of the SW at 6-8mph.  The sky's brightening and making for some spectacular colors. It'll probably be short-lived as the clouds are going to thicken with a 70% chance of rain showers this morning.  Expect rain showers in the morning with cloudy skies this afternoon.  Temps will rise a bit to the upper 50s as breezes remain out of the SW at around 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy with the possibility of occasional rain showers (60% chance).  Temps will drop to the low-mid 40s as W-SW winds kick up just a bit at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... almost a repeat of today with morning showers and a cloudy afternoon but cooler temps (40s).  As I mentioned in yesterday's blog that it appears we're going to have the possibility of rain throughout this entire week.  So far, Saturday's looking sunny and Sunday's back to being a rainy day.

Spring-like Temps Today

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under sunny skies with hardly a breeze (West 2-3mph).  It'll be a spring-like day with partly sunny / partly cloudy skies and temps in the mid-upper 50s (no typo)!  Breezes will remain light.  First they'll be out of the W-SW at 6-8mph and switch tonight only a bit out of the S-SW at 6-8mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy with temps dropping to the mid-40s.  Tomorrow... cloudy with a 20% chance of rain showers in the late morning / early afternoon forecast.  Temps will remain Spring-like in the 50s.  Speaking of rain showers... this week looks relatively wet with the chance of rain increasing each day at least until the weekend.  Keep those umbrellas handy.
