Fair Friday

Mornin'!  It's 14° in Wildwood this last day of January.  Winds are calm; the sky is clear as the stars shine brightly prepping for Ms Sun who's due up in just over an hour.  It'll be partly sunny/partly cloudy today with temps climbing into the high 30s and some forecasts are saying low 40s.  Just saying.  It'll be calm with winds wifting (I mean wafting) in from the W-SW at 5-10mph.  The weekend's looking 50-50 with tomorrow looking the better of the two days and quite balmy with sun as Sunday's got fog and rain in the forecast.  The doggies have been enjoying some relatively decent winter weather at the Shore this year.  Until next year January...c'est la vie!!!

Clear and Calm

Mornin'!  It's 10° in frigid, snow covered Wildwood.  Winter's been a bit on the rough side this year.  We no sooner get a nice 40something degree meltdown, when the island becomes white yet again.  I feel for the pooches.  Where do they walk?  Few sidewalks are cleared or used this time of year and streets are salty and burny for their little foot pads. Speaking of pooches...the showdogs are in town as the AKC Dog Show starts today at the WW Convention Center.  Hopefully, the plows were out for them.  Anyway, back to the task at hand...giving a decent, fairly accurate weather forecast.  There's a clear, starlit sky out there; it's quiet with no breezes and it will stay clear and calm as the sun pours down all day providing a little bit of winter warmth and some meltdown.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 20° range as winds will be light and variable (NE 3-5mph).  Tonight, some clouds will roll in as temps continue to hover around the 20s.

Under Winter Storm Watch

Mornin'!  It's 12° in Wildwood.  There's a thick blanket of snow (my guess is 3-4") on the island. I was out shoveling this early morn before blogging and found the snow light and airy and very easy-peasy on the back.  I worked up a nice sweat.  By the time I was done, everything I cleared was covered with another layer though.  It's still coming down as I type.  The plows (I'm happy to report) have gone down my street three times.  The winds are out of the N at 8-10mph and hardly a chill factor I guess because all that shoveling provided that added warmth and sweat making the cold hardly noticeable.  It'll be mostly cloudy today as temps tap the low-mid 20s.  There's a 50% chance of snow showers throughout the morning and by this afternoon we may see peeks of sun.  The winds will kick up from the NW at 20-25mph.  Tonight...back into the teens.  I swear it's getting harder and harder to imagine summer and a warm beach day.

Tuesday Mix

Cape May Lewes Ferry
Mornin'!  It's 18° with an overcast sky and winds out of the NW at 18-20mph and a chill factor in the single digits. It took my breath away the moment I stepped onto the back porch this early morn.  In the quiet darkness I could hear yet again water cascading from a broken pipe at one of the properties nearby. Been a lot of that lately. While in work (fire department) that's all one hears over the radio are the calls to go to seasonal properties with broken water pipes. The FFs were busy yesterday with lots of 911 calls as it's become an epidemic. Anyway, back to the task of hand...reporting the most accurate weather I can muster up. It'll mostly overcast today with a mix of clouds and some peeks of sun. Temps will tap the 20° (don't forget to include that chill factor -9°) due to the NW winds kicking up until about dinner time when things should quiet down some. Once things settle down, snow likely tonight, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 12. Wind chill values as low as -2. North wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. And, so there should be as yesterday's mid-40s melted the last of the white dirty crust away.  And anyway, what's an island resort without being encased in snow?

One Day Reprieve from Arctic Temps

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood.  It's cloudy and windy.  Breezes are out of the S-SW at 25-30mph and will shift to the W-SW then by late today/early evening shift again from the NW bringing cold arctic air as temps drop down into the teens tonight...15°.  I knew these balmy conditions wouldn't last long.  It'll be mostly cloudy with some peeks of sun today as temps top the low-40's while winds continue to whip all day long wifting (I mean wafting) in at 30-35mph with gusting (40+mph).  It'll be a bad hair day from dawn to dusk.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 23° in Wildwood.  Wind chill...9°.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly filling the house with sunlight and warmth. The pup is laying right in front of the major sunbeam at the front door and he's the smartest one in this house and there's no doubt he's feeling that warmth.  Coffee's brewing and daddy's tater's (homefries) are browning on the griddle.  It's my idea of an ideal Sunday morning.  Well, somewhat ideal as a truly perfect Sunday would be packing for the beach after a delicious breakfast prepared by hubby. That's a few months away as today will be in the low-30s with that ol' chill factor as the winds are coming from the West at a decent clip... 20-24mph and will shift by dusk from the SW.  It'll be mostly clear and sunny with clouds rolling in.  Tonight...mostly cloudy and back into the 20s.  Tomorrow...mostly cloudy and up into the 40s...not a joke.  Tuesday though...eh...back into the teens...bring it I say; let's get this the hell over with!

Soup Making Saturday

Mornin'!  It's a balmy 26° this windy Saturday morn. There was an exquisite sunrise this morning which is being captured and consumed
by thick clouds as I type.  They're blowing in at a decent clip from the SW at 33-43mph.  Chill factor...9°...still quite balmy. Temps will climb into the mid-30's...yes you read that right.  Not looking like the best of beach days.  It'll be a cloudy one today with winds kicking butt and pruning trees as the chill continues to go right through ya and the wind chill feeling like 16° on the bare skin.  There's a 40% chance of a dusting to an inch of snow later this afternoon into this evening adding a nice fresh coat to what's already encrusting the island.  Without a doubt it's soup making day on the island.  Although I think there are some crazies out there opting for that bike/bar crawl fundraiser for Le Tour VI today.  Almost as crazy as running in the ocean.  Good luck with that.

Frigid Friday

Mornin'!  It's 8° this winter morn in Wildwood.  It'll be no time before I'm typing "It's 80° in Wildwood" again...hahahahaha!  That's dark humor on this dark, frigid, Friday morning.  Even more darker is what it feels like outside...-6° is the chill factor and what your exposed skin feels.  No worries as the temp will rise today and tap the 20° (single digit chill factor).  The hard, packed snow is still encasing us in the deep freeze. It'll be mostly to partly sunny today with winds out of the NW at 18-22mph and will shift just a tad by dinner time from the West at 10-15mph.  The island's supposed to get a dusting to a couple inches of the white stuff tomorrow.  Like I said before...bring it!  Thank god for Key West webcams (although there's a little bit of cold snap there too). www.liveduvalstreet.com

Fridig weather continues

Mornin'!  It's 10° on the ol' porch thermometer  Wind chill...-3°.  We're in the thick of Winter big time.  Not much in the line of meltdown as we're still surrounded by hardened, thick, crunchy snow everywhere.  This morning it's freezing cold with clear starlit skies.  Breezes are relatively light at 8-10mph from the W-NW and will ramp up this afternoon 18-25mph.  Temps will rise into the 20s and we'll probably tap the 23-25° mark as Ms Sun tries to shine down most of the day.  She'll be competing with afternoon clouds which could bring snow showers/flurries/squalls and a light dusting to an inch (20% chance).  Whatever...just bring it and get it over with.

Winter Storm Watch Cancelled

Mornin'!  It's 12...yes 12° in Wildwood.  Wind chill... -10°.  The Storm Watch is over but up until about 11a.m. this morning, the coast could get a dusting of snow.  We're currently under a thick blanket of the white stuff...probably 3-4 inches with drifts up to 9-10 inches.  Some areas (like my front sidewalk) had an area with no snow at all as it was all piled high on the front steps. It's bitter cold with winds out of the N-NW at 25-30mph w/35mph gusts.  Sun's due up in about 45minutes but probably won't see her with the clouds interfering most of the morning.  The sky is cloud covered but lightening to a light gray/blue arctic look as I type.  Forecasts are saying that it'll be mostly sunny (later this morning) as the winds and windchill and low temps will hang out for a few days.  We're in the midst of a major winter cold snap.  Don't think we'll see much meltdown for awhile as temps will only reach 16° today with those winds howling...chill factor in the single digits.  Going down to 10° tonight.  Definitely thermal weather.  57 days until Spring!

Winter Storm Warning

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood.  I'm home from a little mini-vacation this past holiday weekend as hubby and I hung out in the Reading, PA area with our life long friends.  We've hunkered back home on the island just in time for some exciting weather.  Wildwood's in Advisory mode as a winter storm has our island directly in its sight.  We have a Winter Storm Advisory, Gale Warnings posted, Wind Chill Advisory and here's a good one... Freezing Spray Advisory among others. At the moment, it's somewhat clear as the stars and moon can be seen through the partial early morning cloud cover.  Light breezes coming off the ocean can be felt...nothing to write home about.  The sun's due up in just over an hour and we may just see some morning sun breaking through.  By 10-11 o'clock though, things will have made the switch as winds and snow will commence and not stop until past midnight.  We're expected to receive 8-10 inches of the white stuff (I'm hearing "fluffy" thankfully) as the entire east coast is preparing to get pummeled.  One forecast said 5" and another...3".  Guess the accumulation remains to be seen but the shovels are out and standing by the back porch door.  Winds will be out of the NE beginning around noon and by dinner time be 29-32mph w/40+ mph gusts.  Prepare for Snow drifting and Winds chills which will be in the teens as temps barely tap 30° later and tonight...12° w/wind chills in the minuses.  The boots and long underwear are ready!  Be careful out there.  58 days until Spring!  That's all I got.

Weekend Blogging a bit early

Evenin'!  It's 38° under cloudy skies.  It's nippy out there.  I'm blogging tonight as there will be no time in the morning.  We're hitting the road for a holiday weekend away.  We're heading to our long time, high school friends' home near Pottsville, PA just about at daybreak.  It's a 3½ - 4 hour drive and we want to arrive there early to get the party started.  So, here's the weekend blog.  First off, tomorrow and Sunday are carbon copies on one another albeit Sunday will be a tad warmer.  Shame it's not the opposite as Wildwood's Polar Plunge (1p.m. at the Convention Center) is tomorrow and the colder of the two.  It'll be a high of 38° tomorrow and tapping 40° Sunday.  Tomorrow will start off cloudy with chance of snow flurries and eventually give way to a sunny afternoon.  The thing is winds will be whipping.  Both days from the West.  Tomorrow they'll be wifting (I mean wafting) over the island at 25-30mp and Sunday a bit calmer.  Very, very brrrrrr... for wet bodies running from the ocean across that huge beach of ours.  More power to them.  It is amazing to watch though and I'd highly recommend watching if you've never had the experience.  Dress very very warm unless you're taking the plunge.  Good luck with that if you are!  Happy weekend! See ya when I see ya!

TGIF!

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood.  The sky is crystal clear, starlit and moonlit and making the frost on everything glisten.  If I had pumpkins there would definitely be frost on them.  There's plenty on the car, the shed roof, trashcans and railings etc etc.  I could go on but even though there are no breezes, it was a bit too nippy to stay out there gawking at the Jack Frost's artwork.  The sun's due up in just over an hour and that'll certainly take care of any frost lying around.  It'll be a mostly sunny day with clouds drifting in this afternoon as temps hover around the mid-40s.  No rain in the forecast for either today or tonight.  Tonight will again welcome back Mr. Frost as temps dip back into the low-mid 30s.  Winds today will eventually make their presence known coming from the S-SW at 15-20mph. 62 days until Spring!

Partly Sunny - Partly Cloudy

Mornin'!  It's 37° on the island.  There's a light breeze under clear, moonlit skies creating quite a crispy morning.  It'll be partly cloudy/partly sunny today with temps barely tapping the 40° mark.  Breezes will continue at 10-15mph from the N-NW.  There's a 10% chance of some precipitation as a system will be skirting us from the SW earlier in the day.  Tonight...clear and cold with high of 33° with light breezes.

Dense Fog Advisory Posted

Mornin'!  It's 38° in foggy Wildwood.  The fog is majorly dense this early morn.  It's kind of creepy yet very cool.  We're socked in and under dense fog advisories today.  It's supposed to stay foggy most of the morning and by this afternoon... lift with peeks of sun shining through the clouds that are left behind. Temps are expected to just tap 50° today.  No breezes at the moment as the surf crashing is the only sound breaking the silence out there.  Breezes will enter the scene later coming from the S-SW and shifting from the East later this afternoon all at 8-10mph.  Oh...there is a full "Wolf" moon today but not sure how much we'll see it tonight... it rises over the horizon at 4:56p.m.

Mornin'!  It's 46° in rainy Wildwood.  The Pup is looking at us with that ol' expression... "Don't even think about an offer to go outside."  It'll be a washout most of today with temps tapping the 50° mark again.  We could see some clearing by later this afternoon as the breezes wift (I mean waft) in.   Breezes are out of the S-SW and will shift by this afternoon from the N-SW at 10-15mph.  Full Moon tomorrow as well as another possibility of more rain showers.  Remains to be seen.

Nice Winter's Day

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood as we've got clear, starlit skies with no breezes.  None.  The Moon's looking bright and almost full (Full-Wolf Moon in 2 days).  It'll be mostly clear today with sun and breezes (S-SW 15-20mph) and temps getting up into the low-mid 50s.  Looks a very decent Winter's day down the shore.  Tonight... 60% chance of rain and tomorrow an even higher chance of rain.

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood.  It's quiet and no breezes this Sunday morning. The skies are partially clear/partially cloud covered.  Sun's due up within the hour.  We should see a nice sunrise today as the clouds almost always provide morning sunrise drama.  It'll be a nice one today as the sun pours down on a mid-upper 40° day.  Winds will be checked in though from the W-NW at 20-25mph +gusting. Tonight...clear and back into the 30s.  Tomorrow...more sun.

Saturday Washout

Mornin'! It's 57° (no typo) this morning in Wildwood. Winds are-a-whipping and sounding like a high speed train racing around the island (out of the South at 25-30mph +gusts of 40mph). It's raining lightly.  It'll be a rainy one today (heavy at times) with temps staying in the high 50s along with those intense winds.  There's a flood watch so keep an eye on the tides. A couple forecasts I've checked mentioned Thunderstorms this afternoon.  Tonight...much of the same.  Tomorrow...sun returns with colder temps. Gee...hankering for a beach day!

Looking Gray

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood.  The skies are cloud covered and the sound of the ocean roaring is intense this morning.  Keep in mind that's 6 blocks away and sounds just like I'm sitting on the beach.  Love it.  It's that cloud cover; makes for noise insulation every time.  It's supposed to be mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers yet not a washout (like tomorrow) as forecasts I've checked mentioned no peeks of sun today.  Remains to be seen.  Temps are heading into the mid-upper 40's and may tap 50° tonight.  No breezes at the moment but are expected later from the S-SE at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow looks wretched with heavy rains all day and night albeit it temps will be in the upper 50s.  So much extreme unsettled weather as of late.

"Balmy's" in the Forecast!

Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood.  It's clear and calm with no breezes to blog about.  It'll stay calm all day but the breeze direction will shift mid-day.  First, from the N-NW and shift later from the E-NE all at 5-10mph.  It'll be mostly sunny with some clouds on the program...nothing that will keep it from feeling like the winter tundra.  It'll actually be in the high 30s with a slight chance of tapping the 40° mark!  You read that right..."balmy".  Later tonight, there's a 50% chance of precipitation...rain or snow showers depending on how cold the temperature drops.  Temps will be in the 50's by the Saturday albeit a washout.  Here's the first countdown of 2014 with a nice round number...70 days until Spring!  We all love Spring in Wildwood don't we? North Wildwood July beach day
Mornin'!  It's 10!  Yep...10° and get this...feels like -13° with the howling, gale-force, biting winds.  There's sand on my porch and I live 6 blocks from the beach.  I know, I know I live on an island, but com'on!  It'll drop down to 7° as the Winds (W-NW) continue to howl  and pierce our unprotected flesh at 30-35mph +gusting (44mph) all throughout the day.  Oh...did I mention Sun?  It'll be nice and sunny today.  Good luck with that.  High tide: 4:55p.m.; Low tide: 6:20a.m.; Ocean temp:42°; Sunset:4:55p.m.

Another winter blast

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood.  It's raining.  It's foggy.  It's not windy (north 3mph).  It's all going to change.  All forecasts I've checked say that another frigid blast is moving toward us at a pretty good clip.  By 3p.m. it'll be 32°.  By dinner time (6p.m.) it'll be 28°.  And, by bedtime (10p.m.) it'll be 14°.  It's supposed to rain most of the day (70% chance) and by mid-day turn to a mix of snow and rain. One forecast said we'll see peeks of sun right before the Winter Blast hits our shore. Winds will be shoving that blast right at us.  First, from the W-NW at 20-25mph, then shifting to the SW-W and finally the West at 28-35mph w/gusting.  I'm not sure I could make up a crappier forecast especially for a Monday.  Other than...this will stick around until Wednesday only getting more frigid and possibly into the single digits.

Balmy Meltdown

Mornin'!  It's 38° cloudy and gray in Wildwood.  Not sure how much sun we'll see today as there's none in the forecast.  But, there's a major meltdown going on.  Talk about the loud sounds of dripping everywhere outside.  There's much less snow than there was when I turned in last night.  It's even going to get less white as the temps rise into the mid 50's.  Weird.  10° one day and 55° the next...just weird.  Anyway...no breezes at the moment but they'll be ramping up later from the S-SE at 20-35mph as rains are supposed to enter the scene (50% chance) and rain during the night into Monday morning (80% chance) and I guess take care of the rest of that white stuff.  No one's mentioned "flooding" yet.  It looks like back into the teen temps by Tuesday...say that fast five times as we get hit with another of Winter's frigid blasts!

Sunny and Bright Wildwood

Mornin'!  It's 10° in balmy, sunny Wildwood.  Not much in breezes for that ol' chill factor but I'm sure down by the beach there's some sea breeze greeting uncovered skin.  It's sunny and bright as the sun's reflection on all that white stuff is definitely brightening the rooms inside our home.  Not much going on except for snow and cold out there.  Temps will be climbing up into the mid-low 30s today as the sun begins her meltdown.  Tonight though.. chance of rain and back in the mid-20s.  I can only imagine all the snow glistening under a coating of ice.  Remains to be seen.

Advisories Posted

Mornin'!  It's...get this...19° this early morn in Wildwood.  Snow has blanketed the island and will continue to do so throughout the morning.  A Coastal Flood advisory and Winter Storm Warning is posted until 1p.m. today.  We're covered in snow as Wildwood's received quite a few inches of the white stuff (my guesstimate is 5-6").  *This afternoon I researched Wildwood's snowfall amount and it was 8inches.  Also, check before heading to the Ferry as 4 trips (2coming and 2going) were cancelled today.  It's windy...NW winds at 30-40mph +gusts are howling and making for a crispy chill factor...12°.  It's the Winter Tundra out there as the biting winds are pelting with a vengence.  Today's high will be 22° but the winds will continue to wift (I mean waft) in from the NW and settle down somewhat by late this afternoon (28-33mph).  By then, we should begin to see peeks of sun.  Doesn't sound like much meltdown though.  Be careful out there.
