New Moon, Super Moon, Black Moon Wednesday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and sticky with 87% humidity and 72° dewpoint.  Breezes are out of the S-SW at 6-8mph.  Expect some sunshine beginning this morning with clouds mixing in a little later. There's a 40-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms developing this afternoon.  Some storms may be severe.  Temps will get up into the mid-upper 80s with S-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy with rain and/or thunderstorms likely.  Temps will drop into the low-70s with West winds at 9-12mph.  Chance of rain is 80%.  It's the "New Moon" this last day of July.  As we see only the dark side of the moon (the moon is practically invisible for the naked eye), this month it's also known as the "Black Moon" since it's the second "new moon" this month.  The moon is not reflecting any of the Sun's light because it's lined up between the Earth and Sun.  This last day of July, the new Moon is also known as a "supermoon" as it's closest to the Earth during its orbit in this Moon phase.  The Tides will be "Extra Large".  If at all possible, don't drive through those corrosive tide waters filtering into the streets.  It's been a terrific July this year as we bid adieu.  Thanks for all the wonderful memories... until next year!

And, being Friday it's "beach tips" day...
Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette...
~Important things to pack for the beach... water, (I also have a small spray bottle of fresh water for you never know what), hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, first aid kit, and shade (umbrella or sand chair with a canopy), something to read and I enjoy taking my crocheting, oh... and a small trash bag to collect any trash you may have accumulated while there.
~When planting an umbrella be aware of wind speed as you may have to take extra steps to secure it such as sand (screw) grabber or bungee cord.  It's pretty amazing how not secure some umbrellas can be as the wind launches them directly toward unknowing folks relaxing right in the line of fire.
~Note the tide times when going to the beach.  If the tide is at it's highest, you can sit as close to the water as you want as the tide will take the entire day to go down to low tide.  You'll literally sit and watch the beach grow as the water slowly recedes a block or more away.
~A new beach posting is there's "No Smoking" on the beach anymore.  That includes "vapes" and especially "cigars".  Some beaches do have designated areas posted.  Look for signs.  There's also "No Smoking" on the boardwalk.  I think most of the seaside towns up and down the coast have passed this new law.
~Kindly give your beach neighbors space when selecting your beach campsite. Courtesy is key. Careful not to plop only inches from others' blankets/umbrellas.
~No dogs allowed on the beach (except for the wonderful dog beaches the Wildwoods provide).
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any that you see whether it's yours or not.   Note trash and recycle containers are situated everywhere.
~Remember to pack headphones for your music device or at least keep the volume down to a minimum (believe it or not no one really wants to hear your music not to mention your beach neighbor just might be quietly trying to listen to their own music).
~Teach children beach etiquette. Running (basically "kicking" up sand) as well as throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it.
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express oneself when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls. Dropping one potato chip carelessly while eating will create seagull havoc. Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the seagulls are much like vultures and are endlessly eyeing beachgoers eating habits.  They're relentless trying to find the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the bag of chips from your bag as well as share their newly acquired snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~Playing ball, frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, or kite-flying, etc is a no-no at the beach.  The backside of the beach (dune side) or other designated areas are more appropriate for active beach games.  Stay away from those camped out that are simply trying to enjoy their beach day and knock yourself out.  The beach patrol will probably stop you if playing in the wrong area anyway.
~Shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~Observe and follow posted beach warnings (closed beaches, no alcohol, strong rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area, etc) and always pay attention to lifeguards.  If in doubt...ask the lifeguard.

~Couresty is key.  Be kind to one another.  Happy Beaching!

Wet Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  That's not a typo!  We had some major thunder-boomers overnight which brought down the temps (as well as some of my tree branches) hugely.  It feels like Spring-time out there this morning.  I had an almost sleepless night (thus the late blog from sleeping in a bit later than usual) from the torrential rains and the bombastic winds along with thunder and lightning.  It was scary.  It's now way out to sea but left a cloudy, rainy, much cooler day in its wake.  It'll be a mostly cloudy day with 80-90% chance of rain showers.  Temps will get no higher than the mid-70s.  Winds are currently out of the NW at 15-20mph and will continue out of the W-NW at 10-15mph throughout much of the day.  Tonight... 50-60% chance of rain showers with temps down into the low-70s and E-NE breezes at 4-6mph.  Tomorrow looks like an unsettled first half of the day as Ms Sun begins to peek in by the afternoon.  Thursday, we're back in business with a lovely beach day!

Nice Start; Stormy Ending

we could see (50% chance) some severe storms and rains (including some tidal flooding).  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tonight... scattered thunderstorms early, then mainly cloudy tonight and overnight with 20% chance of storms and gusty winds.  This Heatwave will have finally let go of its grasp of us as temps will drop significantly as we head down into the low-mid 70s! Winds will be out of the W-SW at 10-20mph +gusting.  Chance of rain tonight... 80%.  Keep your eye on the sky and doppler this afternoon!  Tomorrow looks much cooler as rain showers appear to be staying checked in all throughout the day and evening.  By Wednesday... much cooler in the mid-70s along with peeks of sun.

Mornin'!  It's 89° in Wildwood NJ (It's 8:30am by the way) with a heat index of 99°. Humidity's 77% along with a Dewpoint of 78°.  Breezes are hardly there out of the W-NW at 3-5mph.  Ms Sun's not messing around as it's already broiling out there when standing under her rays. I just got in from watering the gardens and man oh man... it's intense.  The "heatwave" continues as temps will get up into the 90's (yesterday we hit 98°) Today's heat index is 106° (it's what it will feel like).  We're under the broiler today.  Be careful out there.  It'll be sunny with breezes out of the West then by early afternoon turn to the W-SW at 8-10mph.  Tonight... 80° with W-SW breezes at 5-10mph as it'll feel like 93°.  There's a 40% chance of thunderstorms tonight.  Don't be without plenty of liquids today.  Play it smart... footwear, head covering, water, umbrella, sunblock and whatever it takes to be in the shade or water.

Weekend of Heatwave

Mornin'!  It's 81° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 91% and the Dewpoint is 78°.  It's steamy and it's 6:30 in the morning.  It's gonna be a very hot one today as temps hit the low 90s (feeling like 104°).  Breezes will be mostly off the land (there's none to write about at the moment) at W-WSW at 8-10mph (pack the insect repellent).  As today's heat rises, the humidity will drop a bit this afternoon... around 70%.  Tonight... more steam on the island as temps drop into the low-80s again with SW breezes at 6-9mph with humidity building up and feeling like 95°.  Tomorrow... more of the same as this "heatwave" continues thanks to Martha and the Vandellas!   Remember... pack the water, sunblock, shade (hat, umbrella etc.) and footwear.  Think smartly and be safe out there!

The Heatwave Is Here!

Mornin'!  It's 76° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under hazy skies with Ms Sun shining through it all.  Not much in breezes but they're out of the NW at 2-3mph.  Humidity's 98% with a Dewpoint of 75°.  In the words of Marilyn... "We're having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave"!  It'll be checked in right through the entire weekend too.  Take heed with all the warnings posted and announced on the news.  Play it smart and be safe.  It'll be hot today with temps in the low-90s feeling like 100°+ due to the humidity.   Sitting on the beach along the water's edge will probably be your best bet in keeping cool today but that sand will scorch you trying to get there.  We're going to have light breezes coming from many directions.  Beginning early this morning out of the NW, then switching later this morning out of the N-NE, then Westerly briefly this morning, then W-SW early this afternoon, then South later this afternoon, then SW this evening.  Most of the day it will be 6-8mph and tonight... 8-12mph.  No rain or storms in today's forecast.  Tonight... clear with temps in the low 80s.  Tomorrow... more of the same.  And, Sunday more of the same.

Unsettled Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ. We're currently under cloudy skies with breezes out of the W-SW at 9-11mph.  We had a nice watering last night as those ol' thunderstorms drifted over the island giving us some early  (lightning) fireworks along with that nice dosing.  It's still sticky out there with humidity at 95% and dewpoint of 74°.  The humidity will drop and stay around 75% today.  These clouds should move over for Ms Sun (any time now) as it'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day with a 50% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms by late this afternoon.  Temps will hover around the upper 80s / low 90s.  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy with showers and/or thunderstorms likely (70% chance) as the humidity stays checked in while the temps head back into the (upper) 70s.  Winds will be out of the SW at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow looks like we'll be back to sunny skies and very hot conditions.  The weekend looks more of the same.  We're having a heatwave and don't forget to pack plenty of water!

Hazy, Hot, Humid, Highfalutin Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy.  It's quiet and mostly still (SW breezes at 4-6mph).  Not much for hearing the island birds as they must be hanging elsewhere this morning.  It's humid... 84% with a dewpoint of 75°.  It'll be partly sunny/partly cloudy today with temps hovering around 90° feeling very humid with that dewpoint in the mid-upper 70s.  We'll begin to feel the effects of "Barry" (that southern storm from the weekend) as there's a 20% chance of a passing shower later today. Breezes will pick up significantly and be out of the S-SW at 15-25mph (pack a bungee or sand-grabber if heading to the beach just in case).  Tonight... cloudy with 50% chance of scattered rain showers and/or thunderstorms.  There's a possibility of tidal flooding too since the Full Moon was yesterday providing much higher than normal tides which could very well seep into the streets.  Temps will drop back to where they are now (upper 70s) as that humidity increases. Winds will be out of the S-SW at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow... we'll probably wake to cloud cover breaking up as Ms Sun intends to shine down but it'll be one of those hazy, hot and humid days down the Shore.  As for the weekend... at this point, it looks like a heatwave is approaching as it'll be very warm with hazy sunshine pouring down.

Marvelous Monday

Feeding the seagulls is not suppose to happen
Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  What a difference a day makes!  It's lovely outside this morning.  The humidity's checked out for a little while... it's 69% with a dewpoint of 62°.  There's a light N-NE breeze at 5-10mph coming off the cool ocean water.  Ms Sun's up and shining down.  The birds are making their happy presence known.  The air conditioner is still on though... no outside sea air is wifting (wafting) in my home, unfortunately.  It'll be a beautiful sunny day with temps in the mid-upper 80s (we got up to 93 humid degrees yesterday).  The N-NE early morning breezes will shift from the SE a bit later this morning.  Then, shift again from the South and finally later this afternoon shift from the S-SW all at about 9-11mph.  Tonight will be clear and moonlit (the full moon is tomorrow) with temps in the mid-upper 70s as humidity climbs back up to 80%.  We should have a nice (almost) full moon rise tonight.  It'll be nice on the beach but remember footwear, sunblock and insect repellent.  Oh, and tomorrow looks pretty much the same as today.  In fact, most of the week ahead does with the exception of Thursday.  That one looks a bit unsettled and possibly rainy.

TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's been up but just began to shine through the leftover cloud cover from last night.  We had some major thunderboomers with a big display of lightning and heavy downpours here on the island late last night into the overnight.  Everything's nicely watered that's for sure.  It's sticky outside this morning with humidity at 93% and dewpoint of 73°.  It'll be a partly cloudy morning with 20% chance of a passing shower sometime later today.  Expect mostly sunny conditions though with temps in the mid-upper 80s.  Breezes are barely there this morning but will begin to blow in from the West then W-NW at 10-15mph later this morning.  Expect hazy, hot and humid weather today.  Tonight... clear skies with temps in the mid-upper 70s and breezes out of the W-NW at 3-5mph.  Tomorrow... more settled with plenty of sunshine and warmer temps (near 90°).  Sunday... maybe even warmer!  This evening kicks off the annual Anglesea Blues and BBQ Festival!  There's nothing like the aromas of scrumptious BBQ and the briny sea air together!

And, it's Friday...
The back side of the beach (dune side) or other designated areas are more appropriate for active beach games.

It's Independence Day! Happy 4th of July!

Mornin'!  It's 79° in Wildwood NJ.  Happy 4th of July!  Ms Sun's up and beginning today's cookout!  It's warm out there!  Not much in the line of breezes but what is (E-NE at 4-6mph) does feel refreshing coming from the direction of the ocean.  Humidity's 87° and Dewpoint is 74°.  It'll be a warm summer day this 4th with partly sunny skies, temps in the mid-upper 80s, (it went to 93° yesterday and I wouldn't be surprised if it does it again) and breezes (finally) out of the E-SE at 9-11mph.  So far this week the breezes have been very hot ("westerlies" off the land/sand) and not that effective for cooling you off while on the beach.  Today... a different story I'm happy to report as the beach will be the place to be for relief from the heat.  There is a 20% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm (periodically check the sky and/or doppler).  I think that's the established phrase on most hazy, hot and humid days.  At least it was on every weather report I researched this morning.  Tonight... temps back into the mid-70s with Easterly breezes at 6-8mph.  Tomorrow... looks like another partly sunny day with just about the same forecast posted in the weather forecasts.  The weekend's looking rather unsettled with rain (40-60% chance) posted.  I've got my eye on that one. Enjoy the "long" holiday weekend.  It's thick here on the island so make it a point to think of others first... be kind to one another and let's all reflect on our freedoms as well as this lovely seashore together!  Happy Independence Day!  And, don't forget footwear and sunscreen!

Eve Of Independence Day

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 84% and Dewpoint is 72°.  We're under cloud cover with hardly a breeze (W-NW at 2-3mph).  It's gonna be another warm one today (it was a hot one yesterday) but the humidity will head down into the 60%.  Temps will hover around 90° again.  Expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a 20% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm.  We had a brief, mild shower late last night with a little lightning (not much in the line of thunder or winds).  Today the winds have the "West" direction beginning with W-NW this morning, then to the West, then to the W-SW all at 7-10mph.  It's basically what yesterday's winds were but hopefully, they won't turn out as stiff as yesterday's winds were.  It was a very hot land breeze which carried those greenhead flies here and there.  Not to mention lot's of bungees on the beach yesterday holding down those umbrellas.  I'd pack a bungee again today (along with the insect repellent) just in case when heading to the beach.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 70s and E-SE winds at 5-10mph with a stray shower/storm possible (20% chance).  Tomorrow... a bit cooler temps (low-mid 80s) but it'll feel uncomfortably warm with humidity 90%, a mix of clouds and sun with Easterly (refreshing) breezes.  That 20% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorm is in the forecast for the Holiday too.  And, by the way... the ocean in Wildwood Crest was opened yesterday and cleared from the yucky bacteria.

Hot Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with breezes out of the W-SW at 9-11mph.  Humidity's at 81% with a Dewpoint of 67°.  It'll be a hot one today with plenty of sunshine and temps tapping 90°+ yet humidity's dropping into the mid-50s.  SW winds will be around 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms.  Temps will head back down into the low-mid 70s with W-SW at 9-11mph.  Tomorrow looks like it'll be sunny with afternoon showers or storms possible (after 2pm) and again tomorrow night (20% chance).  It's looking sunny with some clouds in the mix and not as warm for the Fourth (low-mid 80s). It'll be a warm one today though!  Pack accordingly if heading to the beach (footwear, hat, sunblock, water, umbrella, insect repellent, etc.).  The beach was closed in Wildwood Crest yesterday from Miami to Jefferson Aves. due to poor, unhealthy water quality.  More testing of the ocean water will be done today but check with officials if this area is your beach of choice (609)465-1187.

Welcome July!

2012 - North Wildwood - Christmas in July
Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and at'em.  Breezes are light out of the North at 6-8mph.  Dewpoint is 57° with Humidity at 62%.  It's a lovely way to kick off the month of July.  Expect a beautiful, warm, summer day with plentiful sunshine and temps in the low-mid 80s with breezes all over the place gradually shifting from many directions all at 8-11mph.  We begin with Northerly winds later this morning, shifting from the N-NE by mid-morning, then shifting again from the NW, then from the West and ending by this late afternoon from the W-SW.  All that means is pack the insect repellent if making it a beach day.  Tonight... clear with temps down into the low-70s and breezes out of the SW at 6-9mph.  Tomorrow... pretty much a repeat of today but just a tad warmer.  It's a "New Moon" today which means no Moon will be shining down tonight but the tides will be much higher and lower than normal.  The tides react the same way when there's a New Moon as they do when there's a Full Moon.  Happy July!
