Fern Could Be A Mostly Rain Event Along The Coast

This Morning's Webcam Shots - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  There's barely a breeze out of the NW at 2mph creating no windchill.  It's partly cloudy with those wispy and Ms Sun ready to begin peeking over the horizon and through it all.  It's cold but when doning my fuzzy robe and taking out the trash, the crisp, coldsalty air felt great.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 41° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... mostly clear with some passing clouds, temps falling hard into the low-teens with N-NW winds giving us a major windchill at 15-25mph.  We're likely to see temperatures under 0.  I'm talking -2° as one forecast reported!  Tomorrow... the stage is almost set for "Fern".  It's looking like we'll not be following Philly's forecast as we'll have partly cloudy skies in the morning giving way to cloudy skies by the afternoon, no precipitation,  temps will be in the low-20s with North winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy with snow developing around  midnight with 1-3" expected, temps around 19° with NE winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... snowing in the morning (heavy, wet snow with 3-5" of accumulations expected), temps begin rise into the low-40s then the snowy conditions begin turning to rain during the afternoon.  It'll be very windy with E-NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting. Sunday night... occasional rain, temps in the upper 20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... cloudy and windy with a snow flurries possible, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 25-35mph.  Monday night... extremely cold, still windy, mostly clear, temps around 16° and W-NW winds at 20-30mph.

A Winter Beauty Today

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 35° with the W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  It's clear.  Along the horizon, there's a row of clouds that will obviously keep Ms Sun from rising on time.  But, she's definitely going to rise and shine this morning!  It'll be a lovely winters' day with plentiful sunshine, temps in the upper 40s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, temps in the low-30s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... a few clouds from time to time, temps in the mid-teens and N-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Saturday... a mix of sun and clouds, becoming cloudy later in the day, temps in the low-20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... the fun begins. This is what was on the weather report when I opened the latest report on winter storm "Fern":
WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.  HEAVY SNOW AND SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS LIKELY.  PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN SUNDAY IN SOUTHERN DELAWARE, NORTHEAST MARYLAND AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.  HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS.
Saturday night... this winter storm begins with snow, temps in the upper teens, NE winds at 5-10mph increasing to 15-25mph. Snow accumulations at 3-5 inches.  Sunday... potential winter storm, cloudy, snow fall, and very windy (E-NE at 25-35mph +gusting), temps in the mid-upper 30s, 3-5 inches expected.  Sunday night... snow with a wintry mix, temps in the upper 20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... light snow and very windy, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Monday night... partly cloudy with gusty winds (W-NW at 25-35mph), temps around 16°.  I'll keep you updated every morning on how Fern is expected to behave.  Continue to prepare for the worst.

Fern's Making Plans To Visit

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still dark but clear with beautiful starlit skies.  No breezes to note thus no windchill.  But, it's extremely cold outside. Thankfully, it'll be a clear, sunny, blue-sky day with temps in the low-40s and S-SE winds at 15-20mph.  Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny day with some afternoon clouds drifting in, temps in the upper 40s and West winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear with a few clouds into the overnight, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday night... partly cloudy, temps dropping into the teens as it'll be around 17° with N-NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel like the single digits.  As for this Nor'easter "Fern" which sounds full of herself and superior to me is still formulating and getting her s#^% together, but we all need to seriously pay attention and prepare just in case as we could see some extreme cold temperatures, very strong winds and very heavy snowfall.  Everybody (the local weather man, the weather channel, the Nat'l weather service, AccuWeather are all reporting the same thing... "wiggle room", "all components are not lined up yet",  "the players are not all on the field", "monitoring the development", "potential for a major storm" etc etc. As for our coast, we're in the line of fire for Ms Fern's trajectory and visit this weekend.  No question you should give some thought what you could be facing down the Shore with this potential storm... single digit temps (with incredible windchills), icy conditions, gusty winds, and heavy snowfall are all on the table for Saturday night and overnight, Sunday, Sunday night and Monday until mid-day.  Prepare for the worst is my suggestion.  Just in case.

A Serious "Cold-Snap" Has Checked In

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like 11° with the winds out of the NW at 15-25mph.  It's clear as Ms Sun's on the rise.  She'll be up in minutes  from now.  Speaking of "sun", it'll be another sunny day but much colder than yesterday.  Today's temps will be in the upper 20s feeling more like the low-mid teens due to those W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the low-20s (still feeling like teens) and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny day, a little warmer but still with gusty winds.  Expect sunshine and Southerly winds at 20-30mph +gusting but temps will be around 40° feeling more like 30°.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Thursday... sunny, temps in the upper 40s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Friday... cloudy, temps around 40° and N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this coming weekend's weather. A major, widespread winter storm (named "Fern") is coming from the West and South into parts of the Mid-Atlantic and East beginning Friday.  For us along the Southern coast of NJ, things could begin to take shape Saturday night when we could begin to feel the effects of this winter storm.  It'll be seriously cold (20° feeling like 9°) with blustery winds and snowfall up to 8".  Sunday... still very cold (in the teens) and still very windy with more snow accumulating at 3-5".  Sunday night... extremely cold (low-20s feeling like the teens) with more snow 1-3".  All toll: potentially over a foot of snow.  As all forecasts are currently saying... "potentially" and "wiggle room" on how this storm lands here, committing to our area getting a direct hit is vague but this is a widespread storm though as well as coming from the South (which are 2 strikes against us).  Considered a "Nor'easter"... they're not at all kind to us.  Preparedness is key... prepare for the worst like power outtages, icy conditions, more snow than forecasted and all that stuff you need to survive a major storm in place (batteries, chargers charged, candles, coolers, generators, etc). You know... just in case.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like 18° with the West winds at 8-11mph.  We've got crunchy, icy surfaces outside this morning.  With that small amount of precipitation last night, we've got white covered grasses, vehicles, shed roofs etc out there at the moment.  It's clear as Ms Sun's about to cross the horizon and warm things up.  Happy MLK day!  A national holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr's birthday and a day of service.  It'll be a nice one with plenty of sunshine, temps around 40° and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the low-20s and winds out of the W-NW at 15-25mph making it feel like the teens.  Tomorrow... another sunny day with temps much colder in the mid-20s and W-NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel 12°!  Wednesday will be sunny with temps in the low-40s.

New Moon Sunday

The Marina - Boat Ramp at 5th and New York Aves.
Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  It's New Moon Sunday.  It's still dark and mild outside with thick cloud cover and barely a breeze out of the E-SE at 2-4mph.  Just this very moment, the sky has opened up and I'm feeling light droplets of rain.  Before stepping outside, I checked the temps along with the doppler as I do and according to the radar live map, we're colored with thick "green color" meaning moisture is coming down outside.  The only moisture I initially felt was the dampness in the air... no rain or wet droplets.  But now, moisture has begun to fall very lightly and my guess is, it's none of the white stuff or wintry mix with the current temperature.  As for today's forecast... morning rain will be followed by a mix of rain and snow by afternoon. Temps will hover around what they are now.  Chance of rain is 100% with snow (if we do get any) could eventually accumulate to less than an inch later in the day and early evening.  Winds will be out of the N-NE at 10-15mph.  Tonight... 80% chance of snow with temps in the mid-20s and NW winds at 15-25mph.  Snow accumulations less than an inch.  Tomorrow... sunny for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  It is a federal holiday (3rd Monday of January) as we celebrate his life.  It's designated as a national holiday for community service as we recognize his fight for racial equality and play our part by giving back and taking part in helping the community in some way.  We'll have a lovely winter day to do so with plentiful sunshine, temps around 40° and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear with some cloud cover, temps around 20° with NW winds at 10-20mph.  By the way, today's tides will be much higher and lower than normal due to the New Moon.  It'll be pulling on the ocean the same as a Full Moon (2/1/26).  The high tide times are an hour later on the bay-side / marsh-side of the island than the ocean side by the way.

A Clipper's Coming Tonight

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining under the cloud cover.  The bay side / marsh side of the island is cloudy.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 10-15mph making it feel more like 34°.  It'll be partly sunny this morning, turning partly cloudy and finally turning cloudy by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with SW winds at 10-20mph.  There's a 50% chance of rain today.  Tonight... 80% chance of rain and/or a wintry mix with mostly cloudy skies, temps in the upper 30s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... a mix of rain and snow turning to all snow by the afternoon (snowfall amounting to around 1"), temps will be starting out in the upper 30s falling to freezing temps (upper 20s / low 30s), winds out of the North at 10-15mph. Tomorrow night... snow, becoming clear late into the overnight, temps in the mid-20s with NW winds at 10-15mph. Snowfall around 1".  Monday... generally a sunny day with temps in the upper 30s and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Monday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 20s and W-NW winds at 10-20mph. Good luck to all those plunging into that 40° ocean today.  It's the 20th anniversary of the Special Olympic Polar Bear Plunge on the beach at the Convention Center (Andrews Avenue) at 1:00PM today.

Sunny And Cold Today

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  Add to that the current W-NW winds at 18-22mph and you get a windchill of 11° this morning.  Ms Sun's up and shining.  Expect abundant sunshine today with a high of 36° (feeling more like 26°) with winds out of the West at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear, clouds overnight, temps in the low-30s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like the upper 20s.  Tomorrow... cloudy, 30% chance of rain and/or a wintry mix, temps in the low-mid 40s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like the mid-upper 30s (take heed all you plungers).  Tomorrow is the 20th Annual Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge at 1:00PM on the beach at the WW Convention Center and is always something to behold. It's really remarkable to me that human beings make the choice to go to the frigid beach in a bathrobe and flips flops and drop the robe and sandals and ready themselves to run into a 40° ocean on a windchill kind of day. Keeps me shaking my head for sure. Back to the weather... as for Saturday night... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 30s and much lighter winds.  Sunday... there's a piece of a Nor'easter heading our way so expect some moisture in either rain or a wintry mix.  There's a 70% chance of snow Sunday with less than an inch of snow possible, temps will be in the upper 30s with North winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 20s and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... sunny, mid-30s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.

Sunny Morning - Cloudy Afternoon and Evening

1/12/2013 - 1/14/2021
Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  There are some light, feathery clouds on the west side of the island but barely a cloud along the horizon.  Winds are light out of the S-SW at 3-5mph.  It'll be a sunny start with clouds gradually filtering in and by this afternoon, become overcast and cloudy.  Temps will be in the upper 40s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy, with a slight chance (25%) of a rain shower, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... possibility of lingering rain showers or snow flurries, partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and gusty winds out of the W-NW at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy and windy with temps in the low-20s and W-NW winds at 20-30mph making it feel like 13°.   Friday... sunny, temps in the upper 30s with gusty winds.  Saturday... partly clear with clouds in the mix, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... cloudy with 30% chance of snow showers, temps in the low-mid 30s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Today will be 5 years that we lost Freddy.  In fact, his birthday was just Monday and he would have been 13 years old.  There's almost barely a day I don't remember his lively, fun spirit.  Having a digital photo frame for a number of years now, (thanks to my children) not only does it bring fun, past memories of family and friends but there's so many memorable shots of Fred displayed almost 24/7 for my viewing pleasure.  Here's some.  Freddy will always be my sweet, happy companion and seashore pup as he forever lives in my heart.

Looks Like A Repeat Of Yesterday

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still dark but moonlit and starlit.  Even in the darkness, the sky is clear and bright.  Winds are barely there out of the West at 3-5mph.  It's a cold but nice morning down the Shore. Encountering lots of salty, briny air when stepping out onto the back porch.  Ms Sun's on her way with plenty of sunshine this morning, then a few late afternoon clouds check in all while temps get into the mid-40s.  Winds will ramp up a bit out of the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and S-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... looking like another possible repeat with a mix of sun and clouds in the morning followed by a partly to mostly cloudy afternoon, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, 50% chance of a wintry mix developing into rain showers late, temps in the low-30s and W-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Thursday... windy with some cloud cover, flurries are possible, temps in the low-30s and blustery W-NW winds at 20-30mph.  Thursday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-20s and gusty winds out of the W-NW at 20-30mph +gusting.  Just an fyi... the 20th Annual Wildwood Polar Plunge is this coming Saturday and at this time the weather looks like typical Plunge weather.  Being 4 days away, the weather could change but for now and for what it's worth... Saturday looks to be partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph. That's what all the forecasters are predicting.

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 25° with the W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  It's mostly clear.  The ocean side of the island has less clouds than the marsh side which seems to have lots more cloud cover. Ms Sun has begun painting the pre-dawn winter sky and it's beautiful.  All the clouds are checking out today as we're going to have a sunny Monday with temps in the low-mid 40s and West winds at 10-20mph making it feel like the low-mid 30s.  Tonight... partly clear, with temps in the in the low-mid 30s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... except for a few afternoon clouds, we'll have mainly sunny skies, temps in the mid-40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-40s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Wednesday... mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Wednesday night... cloudy with 40% chance of rain showers, temps in the mid-30s and SW winds at 10-20mph.

Winds-Are-A-Coming With A Cloudy Start And A Clear Finish

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and wet.  It's not raining at the moment but we're saturated and everything's drippy.  Winds are light out of the NW at 4-8mph.  With all this cloud cover, my guess is no sunrise this Sunday morn.  We had some good downpours yesterday and overnight and could have some more showers this morning (60% chance).  By mid-day... skies will begin break as Ms Sun will begin to peek through and brighten the day.  She's bringing along gusty winds (W-NW at 25-35mph +gusting) making 39°-40° temps more like 25°-27°.  Tonight... clear but still very windy.  Temps will drop into the low-30s with winds out of the W-NW at 25-35mph +gusting making it feel more like 22°.  Tomorrow...  sunny, temps in the low-40s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... a few clouds, temps in the mid-30s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tuesday looks like another sunny day with temps in the mid-40s.

Soupy Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  Yes, that's 51°.  I had to do a double take on that ol' thermometer hanging on my back porch this morning!  It's mild.  It's also cloudy and along the beach according to the webcams this morning, it's foggy.  Breezes are barely there out of the NE at 2-4mph.  Rain is about to commence any moment now.  Expect a rainy day beginning within the hour with temps around 50° today and winds ramping up from the East at 10-20mph.  Chance of rain is 100%.  Tonight... 100% chance of rain evolving into a steady rain overnight (we could get up to an inch) with temps dropping into the low-40s and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... rain likely in the first half of the day (looks like in the morning), clearing out around noon with peeks of sunshine, temps in the mid-40s and W-NW winds a 20-30mph +gusting. It'll no doubt feel much colder with those winds. Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps around 30° with W-NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting. Monday... a sunny day with temps in the low-40s and West winds at 15-25mph.  The Manhattan Clam Chowder will be perfect for today's rainy weather.  It turned out perfect with those fried bacon bits, smoked paprika added to the herbs and diced veggies along with that briny, strained clam broth that the clams provided when boiled.

It'll continue overnight as temps will stay where they are now... low 40s with Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... expect a rainy Saturday (100% chance) with temps around 50° and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... rain (80% chance), temps in the upper 30s / low 40s and South winds becoming Westerly at 5-10mph.  Sunday... early morning rain, sunshine by mid-morning, temps in the upper 40s with a blustery day making it feel like the mid-30s.  Winds will be out of the West at 15-25mph +gusting.  Sunday night... clear, temps around 30° and still very breezy giving us that ol' windchill (feeling like the mid-upper 20s).  Heading to the fishmonger today to buy fresh clams.  Manhattan clam chowder is on the Soup Menu this weekend.
