Until We Meet Again June

Mornin'!  This is it June...until next year...au revoir! It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  It's hazy, calm and quiet.  Ms Sun's on her way as she's still checked in from yesterday.  It'll be pleasant again today with sunny and warm conditions.  Temps will hover around 80° as breezes wift (waft) over the island from the S-SW at 5-7mph.  Tonight...mostly clear as temps drop a bit down around 70° with breezes shifting and picking up a bit from the S-SE at 13-17mph.  There's a 20% chance of an overnight thunderstorm leading into tomorrow's unsettled weather.  Friday's looking like the most unsettled for the weekend as there's a 40% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms into the evening.  The rest of the holiday weekend still looking pretty darn good I must say!

Nice Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  It's overcast and damp.  We must have had some rain showers sometime during the night as everything outside is wet and drippy.  There's a 20% chance of a passing shower early this morning but it's looking like it's clearing as there's suppose to be a sunny humpday on tap.  It'll be mostly sunny with temps in the low 80s and breezes out of the NW at 11-13mph. Tonight...clear with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the W-NW at 9-10mph. Tomorrow looks much like today.  The holiday/weekend forecast is for the most part looking good although Friday looks the most unsettled. Saturday, Sunday and Monday...5 Star!

Temps should get up into the low 80s as breezes commence from the S-SE at 11-13mph.  Tonight...back into the upper 60s with clouds returning as rain is on the forecast for tonight into the overnight.  Could be thunderstorms in that mix (60% chance). It's the Weekend!!!

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  It's breezy (NE 15-20mph).  And, Ms Sun just broke-on-through!  I slept in a bit today since we turned the air conditioner on last night and since it provided darkness and quiet, I unconsciously enjoyed the early morning cozy surroundings.  The air conditioner is working perfectly so far; so good.  There comes a point where you have to try it out and see if it's needing a tune up. One should never assume you'll be cool and comfortable as the summer heat will eventually take over in the weather department.  This beautiful "still Spring-like" weather isn't sticking around much longer.  We're not fans of having the house closed up with the air conditioner on all summer either as there's no sense of what's going on outside like hearing the seagulls squawking, screams from the amusement rides, "watch the tramcar please" recording and Fox Park's concerts (if the winds are just right) but even more important the aromas of the island...the marsh, the ocean, the island's sand warming, summer barbeque and for the most part happy, laughter from people all around. We're contemplating leaving the ac unit on until after the 4th of July.  This will be my 14th Independence Day down the shore and it is a true test of endurance living here that holiday. We're a sleepy little town of approximately 5,000 pp. for each municipality.  On the 4th of July...that turns to easy 200,000+ and that's without a Tim McGraw beach concert and a Foam 'n Glow EDM Party as well as Philly Pop's 4th of July beach concert with spectacular fireworks!  Crowded doesn't even come close to describing what's up ahead next weekend.  Getting into the grove of the celebration is one thing, but closing yourself in the house in the air conditioning and away from the insanity helps to maintain mindful peace.
On to the weekend weather...it'll be mostly sunny today with temps in the upper 70s/low 80s. It'll be breezy all day (NE 15-20mph).  Tonight...breezes die down a bit (E 9-10mph) and temps in the mid  60s.  Tomorrow...pretty much the same only less breezier and warmer temps!
High tide:12:26p.m.
Low tide:6:07p.m.
Ocean temp:69°
Sunset:8:29p.m.
Rip Currents:Moderate (A moderate risk of rip currents implies that those planning to enter the surf should check with the life guards first.  Be sure to swim within the sight of a life guard. Never swim alone or at night.
UV Index:Very High - 9 : Suncreen's a must and if possible seek shade.  Remember..the white sand and ocean reflect UV and can double sun exposure.  The strongest time of the sun's rays is between 10am-4pm.
And, while I'm now on my second cup of coffee, I thought I'd might as well add My Weekly Beach Etiquette tips:
~never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any you see whether it's yours or not.
~don't forgot those cigarette butts...collect and trash them (or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air).
~remember to pack those headphones (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music).
~kindly give your neighbors space when selecting your beach site.  Careful not to plop down too close or on top of their beach space.
~always remind your kids beach etiquette especially not running too close to others and avoid kicking or throwing sand near others.
~play ball, frisbee, corn hole, and kite-flying etc on the back side of the beach and not near beach goers (the beach patrol will usually stop you anyway if your in the wrong area.)
~ no feeding the seagulls (big no-no). And, eat and snack smartly...under your hooded sand chair, or umbrella as these beach vultures will eye each and every beach goer looking for the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth.  Once they get you then the havoc begins as all the other gulls attack for your scattered food.
~shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~follow posted warnings and pay attention to lifeguards.
~(hubby suggested this one) If you must use your cell phone on the beach...courtesy would be taking the call away from all the surrounding beach goers and head to a quieter area (dune side of the beach).

Friday Mix

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  It's very, dark gray with no breezes to note.  I can hear thunder in the distance and according to the doppler, there's a nice, fat weather system aimed for us as I type.  Depending on which way this badboy goes (and it appears like it's heading right for the coast of Wildwood with another small system right behind it) my guess is a couple good hours of stormy weather up ahead for us this morning.  One thing's for sure...it's freaking my dog out.  So...unsettled weather this early morn with a very good chance of heavy downpours, thunder and lightning and strong winds.  After, we'll have a mix of clouds and sun with E-NE breezes at 10-20mph and temps in the low 80s.  Tonight... some clouds still in the mix as temps go back down into the upper 60s/low 70s with winds out of the NE 15-20mph.  The weekend's still looking good with plenty of sunshine but tomorrow...on the windy side which certainly affects a good beach day.  Sunday looks like the better of the 2 days as far as wind goes.

Gray and Wet Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood.  We're under cloud cover this morning.  It's gray and damp with loads of moisture in the air.  I'm not sure if we'll see Ms Sun this morning or anytime today for that matter.  It'll be gray and rainy as there's a 90% chance of rain showers and/or thunderstorms likely with the possibility of it being locally heavy at times...which means keep your eye on the doppler.  Here we go again!  Just as my back porch got an impressive cleaning yesterday by hubby (looks terrific).  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 10-20mph with temps in the low 80s.  Tonight...more rain on the menu (40% chance) with winds out of the N-NE at 13-15mph and temps in the upper 60s. Tomorrow...looking much better and the weekend...even better!!!

Sounds of Chain Saw Day

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's shining down.  Breezes are light and variable mostly out of the West (W-NW).  The birds seem happy chirping away.  I still wonder what were the birds doing during yesterday afternoon's jaw dropping storm (still waiting for the announcement of an official tornado touchdown) and how many birds didn't make it through that. Our property is a mess with potted plants toppled over throwing the potting soil everywhere.  No major damage I'm happy to report.  We lost power for just about 4 hours last night. We have very dirty (filthy) conditions as the tornado-like winds mixed with the debris from my street  being under construction as it was being milled the last couple days.  This keyboard even feels grimy.  Enough of my temporary woes.  It'll be summery today as Ms Sun shines all day with temps in the low-mid 80s.  Breezes will be out of the West at 10-15mph.  There's a 20% chance of an afternoon/evening thunderstorm.  Tonight...mostly clear with some cloud cover in the mix.  Temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the SW at 7-9mph.  Tomorrow...more rain coming.  Ending on a good note...the weekend's looking fine and near perfect!

Take Caution...Unsettled Weather Up Ahead

Mornin'! It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and still.  We've just had a couple hours of thunder boomers and some heavy winds in the early morning dark hours.  No major downpours or rains...just those noisy, dark, ominous clouds which are now out to sea for now but this unsettled, stormy weather isn't over yet.  We've got some thunderstorms on the menu for both today and tonight. There's an 80% chance of rain developing along with thunderstorms throughout the day and evening. Temps will be up in the mid-upper 80s as the doppler will be of major significance today to keep an eye on those (some severe) storms.  Winds will be out of the W-SW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...more thunderstorms (some severe) on tap with winds maintaining the W-SW direction and temps down to the mid 70s.  Tides are still going to be higher than normal with that amazing full moon (last night) and rainfall (depending on how much pours down).  Tomorrow...much like yesterday...lovely.

Longest Day of The Year!

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Happy Summer!  It's hard to believe it's here again!  Time flies when you're having fun.  It'll be a summery beauty today as temps get into the low-mid 80s with abundant sunshine and light breezes (S-SE 5-9mph).  Tonight...some clouds will filter in as temps go back down into the low 70's and breezes will be out of the S-SW at 17-23mph.  Looks like rain tomorrow.  Today's full moon falls on the summer solstice. We'll not only have much higher tides but the bright Full Moon (Strawberry Moon) will be shining while the bright sun will be shining. Data shows that this rare occurrence has happened only about 7 times since June 20th 1796.

Last Weekend Of Spring!

Mornin'! Happy Father's Day Weekend! I've ordered up a perfect weekend for you Dads out there!  It's 59° in Wildwood.  It's on the chilly side with Ms Sun pouring down.  Not much in the line of breezes (NE 5-6mph).  It's another fragrant morn with the marsh aroma covering the island. The island's birds sound happy.  It'll be a lovely weekend morning  to close out Spring.  The Summer Solstice is upon us (Monday 6/20) along with the Full Moon which is a rare event as the Full Moon rising with the first day of Summer hasn't occurred for nearly 70 years.  Ms Sun's checked in for a few days (at least until Tuesday morning).  Breezes will be light out of E-SE at 5-10mph. Tonight...mid-60s with clear moonlit skies and breezes out of the South at 5-10mph. Tomorrow...much of the same but just a smidgen warmer.

Perfection is heading our way!

Mornin'!  It's 63° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with breezes out of the E-NE 15-20mph.  Everything's wet from last night's rain showers.  Feels nice outside...cool with a tropical feel.  Smells nice outside too...fishy...you know that ol' "marsh fragrance".  Gotta love that (although some don't which always makes me wonder why they're here saying "pew, do you smell that?"). It'll be 60/40 today as rain showers are on the menu for this morning (60% chance) with breezes out of the E-NE at 18-26mph.  By mid-day, clearing will begin as Ms Sun's going to do all she can to peek through this thick cloud cover.  Temps will be in the low 70s.  By tonight...it'll be mostly clear with some leftover clouds in the mix as breezes will be out of the East at 15-22mph as temps drop back into the low 60s.  Saturday, Sunday and Monday...sunny, blue skies, mid-70s, light breezes...perfection!  3 more days until the Full Moon...and in the words of Debbie Harry..."The Tide is High".

Clouds filter back in and cover us with a 70% chance of showers developing after midnight as temps drop back into the low-mid 60s and breezes will be out of the East at 15-25mph.  It looks like we could wake to showers Friday morning as this weather pattern gets all the moisture out of its system preparing the island for a very pleasant weekend!

Lovely Monday

Mornin'!  It's 63° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining down.  The breezes are still surrounding the island from the N-NW at 23-26mph +gusting.  It sure got warm down the shore yesterday...89° on the back porch thermometer. The breezes were incredibly stiff coming off the land (West) making for a tough beach day.  I never attempted it with those winds.  That's the kind of beach day that would have covered you completely in sand as the winds would have worked perfectly if off the ocean. Never happened as it was a very warm one though and I made it through with no Air Conditioner on yet!!! Today...with windows open...the winds will continue to hang out of the N-NW at 23-26mph w/gusting 30+mph.  The sun will shine while temps will be cooler as we get up to just about the mid-upper 70s.  Tonight...even cooler (60°) with clear skies and W-SW breeze at 11-13mph.  Tomorrow and Wednesday...looking like keepers!

There's a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm (20% chance). Things will begin to change by tonight as clouds and winds roll in with a possible storm front rolling through. (40% chance). Time frame could be approximately 8-9pm as rain and winds and thunderstorms are all in the forecast. Abundant Sunshine

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood NJ.  It's on the chilly side this sunny, breezy, crisp Spring morn.  Once again, the birds sound very happy.  It'll be pleasant today albeit breezy as Ms Sun will be checked in today along with some milky afternoon clouds as temps get back up into the mid-upper 70s.  Breezes will be stiff out of the W-NW at 19-26mph.  No rain in sight.  Tonight...clear, with temps in the mid 60s and breezes out of the NW at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow's looking near perfect.  The weekend..."eh" as Saturday will have a mix of clouds and sun while Sunday will have breezes.  Got my eye on the weekend's forecast as we've got the American Legion, the Mummers, beer (WW Beer Fest) and the DeMolay convention. WildwoodsNJ.com

Hump Day Mix

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got another lovely morning.  The sky is clear as Ms Sun's up and at'em.  No breezes to note (yet). The island birds and seagulls are the best part of the morning as they're chirping and squawking (I like to think of it as laughter) everywhere around the neighborhood.  And, living near Otten's harbor we get our share of ducks quacking as they're sounding pretty happy too.  I always refer to having our ducks while Key West has their chickens and roosters!  It'll be a partly nice one today as the morning starts out sunny and mild while temps climb up to the low 70s.  By mid-day things begin to change. First it'll become windy...W-NW at 16-20mph and by noon...32-39mph as a cool (temps will drop), storm front will be aiming right for us.  Expect those "ghostbuster" clouds to roll in quickly with winds and rain and thunder and lightning being on the afternoon menu (60% chance). We got a similar storm front with those dramatic storm clouds and winds last evening around dinner time and it only drizzled for 5 minutes and passed on through. Today's storm will be a fast mover so it should move through quickly. Tonight...clearing out but the winds are staying checked in...W-NW 20-30mph.  Temps down into the upper 50s! Tomorrow's looking nicer...calmer, sunnier and milder. The weekend...eh...the jury's still out but Sunday's looking like the better of the two days!

Tonight...some clouds with temps in the mid-upper 60s and breezes out of the N-NW at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow...cloud cover with gusty winds.

Lovely Monday

Mornin'!  It's 70° in Wildwood NJ!  We've got ourselves a summer morn (2 weeks away officially).  It's a beauty out there...clouds are gone, light breezes out of the W-SW at 5-7mph, Ms Sun's up and shining brightly, and everything's damp from the overnight showers. The fragrances in the air are off the chart! There's a mix of ocean, marsh, harbor, and damp soil/sand (soaked from the overnight rains) fragrance in the morning air and it's awesome.  I love it.  It'll be a nice one to kick off the work week as Ms Sun will be the star attraction with breezes out of the W-SW at 8-10mph and temps tapping 80°.  Tonight...back into the low 70s with some clouds filtering in and breezes out of the S-SW at 12-14mph.  The rest of the week's looking much like today (at least until the weekend).  You picked a good one if it's your vacation week!

Wet Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood.  Humidity's 96%. We've got gray skies, fog and mist. Breezes have just begun to made their presence known out of the SW 8-10mph.  There's that "drippy" sound coming from trees, downspouts, roofs etc.  Everything's soaked but it's not raining.  You get that a lot on an island.  It'll be a rainy one today once things get rolling.  There's a 90% chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms (some could be severe) with winds out of the SW at 15-18mph.  Temps will hover in the mid-upper 70s range.  Tonight...more of the same with temps back down into the lo-mid 60s and breezes out of the W-SW at 17-23mph. At least we got one day (yesterday) this weekend with perfect summer weather. For that I'm very grateful.  Got to Wildwood's Farm Market at Pacific and Schellenger Aves for some produce, the Beach tcheck out the vintage beach buggies and motor cycles for the Gentlemen's Race and was lucky enough to catch the kick off of the Elks Parade as The Wildwood Elks were leading them on! Nice day. Today...not so much.

FOOTNOTE: It's 10a.m. and Ms Sun keeps peeking out as the island's drying out.  The local weather man is saying the rains and possible thunderstorms may be developing much later than first expected...5-10p.m. Yay!

Gray Friday

Mornin'!  It's 63° in Wildwood, NJ.  It's misty and foggy.  I thought I heard it raining down when I first woke but discovered that it's just fog and mist and a huge amount of moisture in the air as the island's soaking wet and dripping everywhere.  Breezes are out of the East at 9-11mph.  It'll be cloudy and misty all throughout the day and evening.  There's a 60% chance of rain showers in the morning but should be just a cloudy day again today.  There's always that one forecast that mentions peeks of sunshine.  That remains to be seen by the looks of things.  Temps will tap the low 70s as breezes wift (waft) over the island from the E-SE at 9-10mph.  Tonight...clouds and back down into the mid 60s with breezes out of the South at 5-6mph.  The weekend's looking ½ and ½ as Saturday appears to be the better of the two days with Ms Sun showing up a bit for the festivities. www.wildwoodsnj.com  Sunday will be like today...gray.

A little of this and A little of that

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and overcast.  It's a little breezy (E-NE 13-16mph).  There's moisture in the air along with the sounds of birds chirping and squawking.  Looks like a mix of weather today as Ms Sun's due in a little later this morning (peeking through) as it'll be a mostly cloudy day down the shore.  Temps will get into the low-mid 70s.  Tonight...more mix of clouds (20% chance of a stray shower and/or thunderstorm) and temps back into the mid 60s and breezes out of the E-SE at 9-12mph. Tomorrow...looking cloudy and rainy (60% chance). Saturday...much like today with breaks in the cloudy sky as Ms Sun tries to peek through and shine.  Sunday...washout. New Moon is Saturday making the high tides much higher than usual as we could see some tidal flooding.
