Saturday, Sunday and Monday

Mornin'! Today's blog is covering 3 days. Leaving the island for a bit so I've got a 3-day weather report. Starting with Saturday...nice morning. The front porch feels comfortable with the windows open allowing the cool morning 64 degree air into the room. Seagulls are laughing nearby. Sun's coming up. Al Jarreau's singing "Mornin'" (my favorite morning blog song) and the butterflies abound in the flower garden. Speaking of butterflies...there are civilizations that believe butterflies are symbols of the human soul. I believe. Rest in Peace my niece Denise and my dear friend Bob. Now for the weather. Today...best day of the weekend. It'll be sunny and warm and in the mid-80's. Light breeze out of the NNE. Sounds like a perfect beach day. High tide is 11:30a.m. and low tide is 5:40p.m. Ocean temp is 77 degrees. Get out and enjoy! Sunday...40% chance of rain today. The clouds will increase as the day begins and the temperature will remain in the mid-80's and it will feel muggy and humid. The breeze will be out of the SSE at 12mph. High tide: 12:01p.m. and low tide: 6:19p.m. Monday...50% chance of rain today. Basically the same forecast as Sunday. Not sure if it'll be a total washout as the chance of rain will be in Monday's forecast most of the day. Temps in the 80's. Breezes from the ENE at 13-15mph. High tide: 1:24p.m. and low tide: 7:58p.m. There's always the Arcades and movie theatre! Or better yet...the Hereford Lighthouse flower gardens...breathtaking to see and without a doubt many many butterflies to lift one's spirits.

Humidity's Outta Here!

Mornin'! A bit more comfy today thankfully! It's currently 69 degrees in WW. Breeze is from the North at 9mph. It's going to get up to 84 degrees with sunny skies with a NNE breeze at 10-15mph. Sounds lovely. If you're planning a beach day...high tide is 11:30a.m. and low tide is 5:40p.m. Ocean temp is 77 degrees. Sounds like a day to be out of the airconditioning and enjoying the comforts of the Shore.

The Gulls sound happy today

Mornin'! As I'm blogging I can hear birds and seagulls chirping and screaming laughing somewhere nearby. Could be they know another summer day is in store at the shore. Which brings me to today's weather. It's currently 75 degrees in WW and will be heading close to 90 again. Breezes are out of the south/southwest at 9mph. It supposed to be more cloudy than sunny today with a 70% chance of rain and/or thunderstorms beginning around noon. If you plan on hitting the beach, high tide is 10:21a.m./low tide is 4:22p.m. Ocean temp is 77 degrees. My bets are on the gulls getting their feet wet by rain rather than the ocean! By the way...the weekend forecast is looking rather nice as this predicted rain should be bringing more comfortable temperatures.

Flirting with 90's again

Mornin'! It's currently 73 degrees in WW as the sun makes its grand entrance. Temps are expected to reach the high 80's and may hit the 90's once again. Breezes from the South at 5mph. 85% humidity out there, so it's sounding like a warm one is in store at the shore. It'll be sunny and hot throughout today. Rains could come this evening and/or overnight which will cool things off again; plus they could stick around tomorrow. Heading to the beach? High tide is this morning at 9:45 and low tide is this afternoon at 3:43p.m. Ocean temp is a warm 79 degrees. Sounds like a beach day. Don't forget your beach gear...umbrella, footwear, water, sunblock, sandchair, blanket, radio, something to read and money for the fudgy wudgy man. See you on the beach!

Lazy, Hazy, Days of Summer

Mornin'! Summer simmer's along as we have yet another perfect day in Wildwood. It's currently 72 degrees with 0 breeze as the sun rises over the horizon. Humidity is 81% and it's feeling a bit on the warm side. Temps will rise into the mid-upper 80's. Once the breeze does begin, it will be from the North and shift later from the south at 5-10mph. Ocean temperature is 79 degrees. High tide is 9:08a.m. and low tide is 3:05p.m. today. Sounds like a "10" to me! See you on the beach.

Relief today!

Mornin'! I'm so happy to be writing WW's temp this morning...68 degrees! It's lovely outside this morning. There's relief from the all the storms passing through late yesterday. We were watching the Doppler on the ol' Blackberry while enjoying the beach and saw it coming and got packed up before the huge beach exodus around 4p.m. Today sounds like a nice beach day as it'll be mostly sunny today and warm but with cooler temps...probably staying around the mid-to high 80's. There's a 4mph breeze outside coming from the NW and will switch to a southerly breeze at 10-15mph later. High tide is 8:31A.M./Low tide is 2:23P.M. Ocean temperature:75 degrees. There's a full moon out there today and will rise at 8:27 tonight. Some Native American tribes referred to July’s full Moon as the Full Buck Moon, indicating the time when the bucks began growing new antlers. This full Moon was also known as the Full Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month. Sun, moon, sea...whatever your pleasure...we have it here today!

Sweltering Sunday

Still sunny, sizzling and sweltering in Wildwood. It's currently 82 degrees. It will remain hazy, hot and humid with that intense warm land breeze of 10-15mph making it feel over 100 degrees again today. Some time today (after 3pm) clouds, showers, and/or thunderstorms are predicted; cooling things down a little. There will still be beach time in store for us diehards. Prepare accordingly...umbrella or sandchair with fold down canopy, sunblock, water to spray yourself down, water to drink and footwear to cross the 125 degree sand (someone actually took the temperature of the sand). Water temp is a crisp 74 degrees and will drop your body temperature instantly. High tide is 6:43p.m. this evening and low tide is 12:14p.m. this afternoon so go ahead and plant you encampment close to the water. Half the beach population is sitting in or along the water now for relief of the beach heat. A full moon is out there too making the tides a bit higher, streets a little floodier (don't drive through the salt water) and if you're right near the coast this evening keep an eye on the horizon at 8:02p.m. tonight and you may see the moon creep over the horizon. It's really cool to catch a moonrise if you've never seen one before. See you at the beach!

Ho Ho Ho...Bring Back The Snow!

I'm only kidding. I'd rather have the blazing heat than repeat last winter's blizzard. And blazing heat is exactly what we'll have this weekend. Santa's gonna be sweatin' his jollies off today on the beach if he's not wearing a "cool" suit. It's currently 81 this morning in WW. Sun's up and will blaze all day cooking the island at just about 100 degrees. There's a Heat Advisory until 8pm tonight...meaning be careful...stay in air conditioning if possible, hydrate and be aware of elderly, neighbors and pets. The breeze will be 5-9mph out of the WSW (warm breezes). There's no doubt it's a beach day. Keep some things in mind...blazing sun, extremely hot sand, and very warm Santa as North Wildwood celebrates Christmas in July on the beach this afternoon. Water temp will be 78 degrees and high tide is 6:43p.m. tonight. There's a 10% chance of a thunderstorm overnight tonight. Oh...a few important reminders...footwear, sunblock and hydrate. See you on the beach!

Dog Days of Summer

Mornin'! Whew...the heat is still on here in WW. It's truly the dog days of summer and the dog will be hanging around all weekend. It's currently 74 degrees in WW this morning before the sun begins to blaze. Breeze, if you want to call it that is coming from the SSE at 0-5mph. 87% humidity. The temperature will rise into the 90's and keep rising all weekend long. There's a chance (20-30%) of a thunderstorm. If you're hitting the beaches, high tide is 5:56p.m. and the water temperature is 76 degrees. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and don't forget to fill the dog's bowl. By the Way...it's "National Hot Enough For Ya Day."

Wasn't it Irving Berlin who wrote..."We're having a Heat Wave...a Tropical Heat Wave"?

Mornin'! Well if it was Irving Berlin's words or not..."we're having a heat wave" and there's no question about it. We're experiencing the feel of the tropics in WW as of late. Get this...it's currently 80 degrees and the sun's not up yet. Actually it's up, it's just behind the morning clouds as the sun is struggling to come alive over the island. No breeze if you call NW breezes at 4mph a breeze. Not much movement outside as I look at the shrubs and trees. It's thick and heavy outside. The winds will remain from the NW but increase a bit to 10mph today. Temps will be in the 90's. There's a 10% chance of a thunderstorm later. Sounds like we might want to water the gardens. High tide is 5:56p.m. and ocean temp remains refreshing at 76 degrees. I'm placing all bets on a perfect beach day with a couple conditions...an umbrella with a spray bottle of water to keep wet, cool and in the shade; footwear to cross the hot sand; and plan on being in the water so cover up with waterproof sunblock. Now you're set. Oh...the weekend's looking even hotter as Irving Berlin's memorable tune will be tough to get out of our heads!

It's Ditto!

Mornin'! Today will be a "ditto" of yesterday. It's 75 humid degrees in WW as the sun rises. (90% humidity) No movement on the tree leaves outside. Not one leaf is moving. Everything's wet and heavy from all the rain we received Monday. The herb garden is soaked and smelling incredibly fragrant; especially the Basil and Mint. Two huge rain storms passed through late yesterday afternoon and late last evening saturating everything. Even the Willow tree is sagging and almost touching the ground. It'll be sunny most of the day with clouds passing by all day long. Excellent chance the thermometer will hit 90 again. If you do see a breeze, it will be out of the West/Southwest again. Those westerlies...tough to take sometimes as they bring so much heat along for the ride. It's definitely a beach day. Keep an eye on the clouds though and get off the beach if skies begin to look threatening. Storms and showers are key with this heat buildup. High tide is 5:04p.m. and ocean temp is perfecto at 77 degrees. All in all...nice to be in Wildwood this hot summer day.

Soup's Still On!

Mornin'! The soup's still on this Tuesday as this heatwave continues to cook the island. It's muggy and humid in WW. Currently 77 degrees and may reach the 90's again. Sun's shining and will shine mostly all day with some clouds and haze along the beaches. Humidity is 88%. Breeze is northwest at 10mph. Thunderstorms are a 20% possibility late today into tonight. Ocean temp is 78 and high tide is 4:06p.m. Seems like the same forecast day after day recently. It's actually a perfect forecast for those of us who pull our sandchairs down to the water. You know who I'm talking about.

Another Hot One!

Mornin'! You know what Buster Poindexter sings..."Hot, Hot, Hot" as the heat and humidity just continue along this summer. It's currently 80 degrees in WW this morning. The temperature will hit 90 as we creep along in the thick of this heatwave. Breezes are light out of the southwest at 10-12 mph. There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. Ocean temp is perfect at 78 degrees (which is where everyone should be). Today's high tide is 3:04pm. Another perfect beach day but don't forget footwear for the intense hot sand. Buster never mentions that.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'! The blog's a bit late today due to a full day and evening of WW fun. And, it looks like that fun could continue as another beach day is in store! It's 80 degrees in WW this morning. Sun's up and blazing already and there's a nice warm westerly breeze wafting over the island at 10-12 mph. We're in the midst of a heat wave you know as this soup will continue all week long. Tomorrow's going to be a tough one as the island my hit 95 or higher. Anyway, back to Sunday...sunny today, high of 90 or better with 71% humidity. Ocean temp is dropping a bit due to those westerly winds pushing the warm temps out to sea as it's 76 degrees and perfectly refreshing! High Tide is 2:02p.m. this afternoon. There's no doubt its another beach day!

Saturday Morning Sprinkles

Mornin'! Happy Weekend. It's a wet one in more ways than one. It's raining lightly in WW as I type and it's humid out there. Clouds abound as the morning sunrise is obscured. Temperature is up there though...77 degrees and is expected to go into the 90's with humidity at 91%. It's supposed to be mostly sunny with a 30% chance of showers throughout most of the day. If and when the sun shows itself, it sounds like a really intense hot one at the Shore today. West winds (at 8-12mph) all day and you know what that means...warm breezes. High tide is 1:01p.m. and ocean temp is still up there at 77 degrees. Could be a beach day. Actually, I'm counting on it. Oh...I almost forgot...this heat wave's going to continue right through next week...today, tomorrow and Monday looking the hottest. Ah...summertime!

Foggy Friday

Mornin'! We're currently socked in with fog this morning on the island. Big time. At first I thought my porch windows needed some serious cleaning from the salt/sea breezes we had during the night. It's currently 73 degrees (again...seems like the same number every morning this week). Not a faint hint of sun out there with all the fog. Humidity is 94% and wet and drippy outside. Don't fret if it's sun you're looking for as this fog will lift this morning and the sun will shine on us today as well as the rest of the weekend. A heat wave begins this afternoon. We're expecting temps to rise into the 90's and stay there all throughout the weekend. The breeze (from the SSW) is currently 3mph but will pick up to 10mph later today. Oh, by the way, there's a 40% chance of a thunderstorm late today or early this evening. High tide is 12:03pm and ocean temp is 76 degrees. My bets are on a really nice beach day once the fog lifts.

Hot Fun in the Summertime!

Mornin'! Thought I'd throw some Sly & the Family Stone in the mix this morning as it remains Hot and of course fun in the Wildwoods as summertime rolls along. It's currently 73 degrees, cloudy and overcast in WW this morning. The sun's on its way though. Temperatures will go up into the high 80's and the humidity is 100%. Enough said? Oh...the breeze...it's currently out of the northwest at 10mph, but the trees out front aren't moving at all as I type. We're supposed to get that wonderful afternoon southeast seabreeze. Picture that with ocean temps at 77 degrees. High tide is 11:07a.m. this morning. Sounds like a great day for a dip! A peek at the weekend - it'll be 3-H's and you know what that means...Hazy, Hot and Humid. I'll be blogging.

Hot in the City

Mornin'! I can hear Billy Idol singing now. It'll be HOT in the city once again. Hazy, Hot and Humid and much like the tropics again today. It's currently 73 degrees in WW but feels much warmer due to the humidity. A nice thunderstorm shook the house around 4a.m. and lightning lit the sky. It's quieted down now as daylight greets the morning. No storm. No rains. No breeze. Just total stillness and thick oppressive humidity with the ol' back bay fragrance wafting over the island. We may see breaks in the heavy clouds throughout the day. But, there's a 90% chance they'll return. Temperature will rise near 90. High tide is 10:14a.m. and ocean temp is 78 degrees. There's not much of a breeze out there, but when one passes through it will be light and coming from the southwest.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Tropical Tuesday

Mornin'! It's hazy, hot and humid again in WW. We're feeling a bit like the tropics. It's currently 75 degrees and heading up into the high 80's again. This humidity will be bringing tropical rains, showers, sprinkles and perhaps a downpour today. Well, at least that's what I'm hearing...60% and by this evening...80%. You may even catch a rainbow or two. Tropical breezes are 10mph coming up from the south. High tide is 9:22A.M. The ocean has a Key West feel to it...79 degrees!

Dog Days of Summer (thanks Jim)

Mornin'! It's hot in WW. 70 degrees even before the sunrise. The temps will rise to 87-89 on the island today. Southwest breeze at 5mph. High tide is 8:30 this morning and ocean temperature is get this...80 degrees. That's a fact. I was in the ocean yesterday...warm; very very warm.
The dog days of summer, the sultriest time of the year, have undoubtedly arrived.
Some believe that the wicked, mid-summer heat drives dogs mad, hence the expression. But as every pet owner knows, prolonged heat waves do just the opposite. The poor pups pant listlessly in the darkest corners of our homes, hardly lifting a paw.
In fact, the expression has little to do with our canine friends. The dog days (or the dog days of summer) correspond with the rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. In the northern hemisphere, the dog days now fall from July 3 to August 11.
The star Sirius, which means “scorching,” is the brightest star. The ancients believed that Sirius contributed heat to the sun, thus making it the most blistering time of the year.
The dog days were also believed to influence people’s behavior. Feeling tired and listless? Do the dog days have you dragging your feet? Are the plants in your garden wilting? Do as the ancients did. Wait for nightfall and then shake your fist at Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'! Rain is outta here and Sun's back in full form this 73 degree, slightly breezy morning. I can hear the roosters loud and clear while the Beatles are singing "Good Morning" on my ITunes. (by the way, if you log on any KeyWest Webcam in the early morn...you hear the roosters live cockedoodle-doling to each other!) But back to our island...WW is currently 73 degrees and will be sunny and warm today. It's going to be less humid but still warm as we head back into the high 80's and may even hit 90 today. NW breeze at 8-10mph is blowing the trees. High tide is 8A.M. this morning and the ocean temp is 76 crisp degrees. Perfect beach day to me. Sounds like something to cockedoodle-do about!

Saturday with Scattered Showers

Mornin'! The sunrise is trying with all its might to show itself through some heavy cloud cover this morning...very overcast. The porch is actually brightening up a bit and I'm seeing bright skies and some sunshine through the curtains while I blog away. It's extremely humid...100% humidity! It's currently 73 degrees in WW and feels much warmer. Temps will rise to the high 80's today. Clouds with periods of sun will follow us as we're expecting rain or a chance of rain most of the day. Let's put it this way...scattered thunderstorms are predicted throughout the day, but it won't be a complete washout. With that said...the thunderstorms could produce very heavy rain if you get one. Winds are from the S-SE at 10mph. Ocean Temperature is 76 degrees and high tide is 7:40pm tonight. Pack a sweatband and umbrella today for your outdoor activity. Tomorrow: clouds gone, hot and looking like a beach day!

WW's cooking this weekend!

Mornin' and happy friday! We're cooking in more ways than one as we approach the weekend here in WW. The heat and humidity are still hanging around, but the cookers and smokers are firing up for a 3-day event at the 12th annual NJ State BBQ championship & Blues Festival beginning this afternoon. As Rachel says..."Yummo"! It's currently 73 degrees in WW as the sun climbs into the sky. It will be hazy, hot and humid once again as the thermometer reaches the upper 80's at the shore. A slight SE breeze of 5-9mph will be felt while you're munching on a rib or sipping a cold one and listening to some of the best live blues music. If you opt for the beach...high tide is this evening at 6:19p.m. and ocean temp is 76 degrees. There is a 30% chance of a shower today and even higher 80% chance tomorrow. But, don't let that stop you from stopping by for really excellent BBQ in Anglesea! The aromas will keep you close to shore.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Tropical Thursday

Mornin'! I'm listening to Al Jarreau's "Mornin'" as I type...great way to start the day. Has a spiritual feel to it. WW has a tropical feel to it this morning. The humidity is way up there but doesn't feel as intensely hot as the previous days this week. It's cloudly and hazy. It could be hard to find a cool spot on the island once the sun pays a visit. That humidity will make things feel heavy and oppressive. It's currently cloudy 75 degrees, very still with a 30% chance of rain this morning. There's a slight ocean breeze at 5-10mph and temps will go into the high 80's and may touch 90 again today. No wonder my Jasmine and Croton plants and little Lime Tree are doing so great out back. High tide is 5:27pm today and ocean temp is 75 for those of you hitting the beach later as blue skies are predicted by this afternoon. Weekend preview (my favorite weekend of the summer - The Anglesea Blues Fest!): Friday's looking ok...sunny and hot. Saturday: could be a part washout with 50% chance of rain. Sunday: looking like a beach day. I'll be blogging.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

And coming to a town near you...HEAT!

Mornin'! The "Heat Wave" continues today. It's currently 80 degrees in WW and that's before the sun just began to show it's lovely, bright, orange, self. Not a leaf moving on the trees once again. Basically, it's the same blog as yesterday...hazy, hot, humid, heatwave. Temperature is heading to the mid-upper 90's. There's a 10% chance of a thunderstorm later and that percentage goes up tomorrow. I'd keep watering the garden if I were you. The breeze (when it begins) will be 10-15mph and I see the weather folk are saying a SE seabreeze today! That remains to be seen, but let's be optimistic! High tide is 4:33p.m. and ocean temp is 75 degrees. So, summer continues and we know what that means in WW...a beach day! Oh...a few things to keep in mind..."hydrate" and keep drinking water, "hot" sand so wear footwear; "sunburn"...wear sunblock and a hat; "money" for the fudgy-wudgy man.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

We're having a Heat Wave...

Mornin'! Whew...it's already a bit steamy and warm in WW. Currently 78 degrees, sunny and still. It'll heat up today into the high 90's and will be close to 100 degrees. (The mainland will reach triple digits!) There's currently not one leaf moving on the trees out front but the breeze we do get today will be from the NW at 5-7mph making it a hot breeze; especially when it flows across the intensely hot beach sand. One good thing is they're saying that breeze will turn SE later today...and that's an ocean seabreeze making that beach feel luxurious. Ocean temp is a refreshing 74 degrees and high tide is 3:39p.m. Another beach day for sure.

Hazy, Hot, Humid Monday

Mornin'! A little later than usual today, but the gridlock of the late night traffic kept me awake last night. Crazy 4th of July gridlock that we experience each and every year on the island as the crowds try and leave the island after the firework show exploding over the ocean. For some reason, the drivers think our section of the island (west of Park Avenue) will take them out and over the bridge and on their way home. It doesn't in some sections...they hit the harbor and a dead end. Oops...now try and get out...not gonna happen. What does happen...gridlock right outside my home. Horns beeping, impatient folks hollering, smokey burnouts everywhere...kinda ugly. Wish I had taken a photo of it. It didn't end until after 1a.m. putting a crimp in my rest time; even making me as irritable as the gridlockers. Ok... on to the weather...it's currently 81 degrees in WW. Breeze...westerly at 5-8mph. Temps will go way up into the 90's and may hit 100 in some areas. We're talking "hot sand". High tide is 1:52p.m. today. Water temp is 74 degrees. Another glorious beach day!

Sunday, July 4, 2010

Hot, Happy 4th!

Mornin'! Here's the numbers and more...(how bout 300,000 on the beach yesterday?...just a guess)Happy 4th of July! Love typing that. It's the 4th! Happy 4th! Ok...back to the numbers...currently 74 degrees in WW without a cloud in the sky. (you know the kind...bright, deep, vivid seashore blue sky). Going up to 90 today in WW. Humidity is 58%. Breezes from SW at 5-11 mph. High tide is 1:52pm and water temp is 74. Tomorrow: the same with more heat. Today...the last of today's numbers...a "10" for the 4th! Happy 4th of July!

Saturday, July 3, 2010

Almost the "4th"!

Happy Independence Day Weekend and a very good mornin'! If you're not in WW yet (but it looks like just about everyone's here now), bring the suit and beach towell. It's a beach day! It's currently 66 degrees in WW this morning with sun up shining brightly and not a cloud in the sky. There's a 5-10mph westerly breeze and the soups back on. Today's heat will bring the humidity back and we'll see temps in the upper 80's...87/88 degrees possibly. That heat will be simmering the soup as the next heat wave is now on the back burner and beginning to simmer. By Monday...near 100 again so I'm hearing. Oh yeah. Ocean temp is 74 and high tide is 1:04pm this afternoon. See ya on the beach and no sniveling!

Friday, July 2, 2010

Heading into a perfect holiday weekend!

Mornin'! It's all good. It's currently 61 degrees in WW with sun shining brightly. The cool morning seabreeze is filling the house and creating a smile on my face. The breeze will continue today from the north at 10-15mph. The humidity will be staying low today as the temperature rises to high 70's and may even reach 80. Perfect. Ocean temp is approximately 73-75 degrees and high tide is 12:19 this afternoon. Now as for this holiday weekend...still looking 5-star but 3 important words to remember..."warmer each day" as the temps will be in the 90's by the 4th. I'll be watching and smiling and blogging.

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Happy July!

Mornin' and a very happy 1st of July! I'm still reflecting on the 5 months that have passed since that big ol' winter storm that socked us in for a week. The thought of summer is what pulled us through that intense week and here it is July 1st. It's still amazing to me that time flew by that quickly. It's currently 61 degrees in WW this gorgeous morn. The sunrise is over and the sun is blaring through the porch windows. Just lovely. There's a 10-15mph breeze out of the NW and there's plenty of sun and breezes for the entire day. Ocean temp is between 74-77 depending on which beach you're on. High tide is 11:58a.m. today. The weekend continues to look like a July 4th holiday weekend should look...5 star. This gorgeous weather will stay around but each day the heat creeps back until we're looking at the air conditioner and deciding whether to turn it back on or not. I'll be blogging!
