Adios February

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  It's mostly clear (some milky clouds obscuring that almost full moon) with semi-starlit skies.  Breezes are light out of the S-SW at 8-12mph.  It's a lovely morning out there in the salty darkness.  Lot's of love in my heart today.  My feelings of happiness and appreciation for living here along the coast only intensifies after a 4+hour roundtrip drive to the hospital to spend the afternoon visiting our daughter and new granddaughter yesterday.  Everything good (including the salty brine in the early morning air) seems even more enjoyable today. Yesterday was a fulfillment of even more heartfelt love in my life.  My daughter and new granddaughter Lana Rose couldn't be any more precious and beautiful.  Then, my 4-year-old grandson whispering to me as he sat holding onto to Lana for the very first time, "I'm so lucky." Happiness overload which could stay in my heart forever.  Today...will match my mood and be beautiful with partly sunny / partly cloudy sky, temps tapping 50° and breezes out of the S-SW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...cloudy with temps in the mid-40s and breezes out of the SW at 14-17mph.

So...okay "au revoir February!" Most of you know I'm not thrilled about saying goodbye to February as it's the predecessor to that ol' month of March which is my least favorite month of the entire calendar year.  Strap in...March is about to have her way with us and it's never been easy living here along the coast during that month.  There are brief sneak peeks of Spring but if you weren't aware or perhaps are living here for your very first March, it may not be what you expect. It wasn't for me as growing up in the big city was different as March provided the beginning signs of Spring.  Birds were always chirping, bright, light, green was everywhere (lawns, trees, bushes), flowering trees and bushes were everywhere, flowering bulbs begin sprouting, the sun really began to warm you.  Throw all that away here along the coast in March.  It's all about that 40° ocean temperature and those blustery, very stiff winds blowing off that cold water non-stop over the island for which seems like the entire month.  We don't truly see the beginning signs of Spring until April when every last tangle is out of our hair.  Enjoy this last day of February as it'll be a good one.  As for March 1st...looks like rain is on the menu and March 2nd...The March Winds are wasting no time and are checking in along with rain.  Bring it!

Happy Birthday Lana Rose!

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  I'm so excited at the moment that I can barely concentrate.  An hour ago we received the call that our daughter gave birth this early morn and I feel like screaming from the dunes with joy and happiness!  Our little grandson Thomas and I kept assuring everyone that a baby girl was on the way (no one knew the sex of the babe) and sure enough...little Lana Rose came to this earth this early morn at 7lbs/14oz!  She was born on a calm, crisp, cold, sunny day this 27th of February.  Congrats and love to all! Ms Sun will shine today!  It'll be a bit of a mild winter's day with plentiful sunshine, temps almost tapping 50° and light breezes out of the SW at 5-10mph.  Tonight...clear, with temps around where they are now and breezes out of the S-SW at 5-8mph.  Tomorrow...those clouds are checking back in.

Nothing Like A Dreary Monday

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  Same ol', same ol'...cloudy, foggy, misty, drippy...same ol' drill.  Not much in the line of breezes at the moment...NW at 5-7mph.  Ms Sun would be rising at this very moment but it's not happening.  I was a bit surprised to see that we may not see Ms Sun at all again today.  All forecasts have been saying that we should at least see peeks of her beginning Monday but I can't find one forecast that mentions "sunshine" in today's weather forecast.  With all that said, expect cloud cover and foggy, wet, misty conditions today with temps tapping 50° and breezes out of the W-NW at 7-10mph.  I personally am not going to give up on a peek or two of sun this afternoon or at least sometime today.  Tonight...cloudy with peeks of stars, temps in the low 40s and breezes...N-NW at 5-10mph.  I'm putting all bets on Ms Sun tomorrow though.

The Grays are Still in Town

Mornin'!  It's 46° in Wildwood NJ.  We're still gray!  It's foggy and misty as everything's dripping wet.  No rain showers but plenty of dampness and wetness.  We never got showers or downpours yesterday or last night and I'm thinking the same for today but the forecasts do say rain showers off and on..  Temps will be hovering around the mid-upper 50s.  Breezes... light at the moment and out of the SE at 3-8mph will ramp up just a bit from the SW at 10-13mph by this afternoon.  Tonight...gray, misty with temps in the upper 40s and breezes out of the W-NW at 15-20mph. All I can think of is a warm sweater is in order for today.  Even with no plans outdoors today, this dampness will be felt in the house this I know for sure.  I also know that it's been quite awhile for sunny warmth, but the forecast has Ms Sun peeking in tomorrow afternoon...remains to be seen as we can only hope!

Soggy Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 45° in Wildwood NJ.  It's misty and drippy out there.  No rain at the moment and not much in the line of breezes.  It'll be a wet weekend as today begins another stretch of the drearies...rain showers due in today with misty, foggy conditions as temps won't get much higher...mid-upper 40s and breezes out of the E-SE at 10-12mph.  Tonight...same: misty, fog, rain showers/drizzles and temps in the low-mid 40s with breezes out of the E-NE at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow...same: misty, fog, rain showers/drizzles and temps in the low-mid 40s.  Good luck plungers as the Fallen Hero Plunge into the 40° ocean is today!  Crazy folk!

Friday Drearies

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got that ol' cloud cover happening with misty conditions as everything's drippy wet but it's not raining (yet).  The fragrance of the briny saltiness is in the air along with the sounds of the waves crashing is heard in the distance.  The cloud cover is perfect for some things and that's the insulator for sound...as 6+ (counting the long beach here it's probably more like 8) blocks away from the ocean and I'm hearing those waves loud and clear.  It's pretty cool.  It almost sounds like a highway full of speeding traffic.  Anyway, back to today's weather...it'll be gray, misty and rainy throughout the day and also the upcoming weekend.  There's a 45% chance of rain today (beginning later this morning) with temps in the mid-40s.  Breezes are currently out of the E-NE at 15-20mph and will shift a bit later from the East at 10-15mph.  Tonight...more clouds and mist with temps holding in the low 40s and breezes out of the SW at 8-12mph.  For this weekend...expect rain as off and on showers are due in until Monday afternoon.  The North Wildwood (Fallen Hero) plunge is tomorrow and those taking a dip I'm sure could care less about weather conditions (other than the ocean temperature (39°) as air temps will be in the low-mid 50s) but the spectators may want to keep an umbrella close at hand.

Grayness Ahead!

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got cloud cover,  breezy conditions (E-NE 18-22mph) and no mist, fog or rain "yet".  We've got some miserable weather up ahead with temps dropping to the low-mid 40s by this afternoon while the clouds have a 50% chance of opening up and raining down on the island. Winds will ramp up out of the NE at 20-25mph.  Tonight...it'll be no better with temps in the upper 30s, periods of rain, and NE winds at 18-22mph.  After yesterday's incredibly gorgeous day and a real sneak preview of Spring (we had a high of 67° with Ms Sun heating the island...so grateful for that loveliness), we're in for a rude awakening as it'll feel damp and raw today and tonight (and tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday for that matter).  While out doing a little bike riding and running errands yesterday...here's a few things I noted: first, a new pier is being constructed in North Wildwood on the beach at 22nd and the Boardwalk.  It'll be called "Seaport Pier" and be home to a new restaurant, bars, coffee shop, concert venue (bandshell) and swim-up pool bar; 2nd...Walmart on the mainland (Rt 9) is under complete reconstruction (still open and functioning though and I don't know how they can do that) as a Super Walmart is-a-coming our way!  We'll now have another option for grocery shopping in the southern part of the county.  And, leaving on a very good note...it was still light outside at 5:45p.m. last evening!

Humpday Fog!

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  We're in the soup at the moment as heavy fog is encasing the island.  In fact, there's a "hazardous weather outlook" posted by the National Weather Service this morning saying that there's locally dense fog creating difficult driving conditions and warns keeping a good distance while on the road.  There's not many on the road in Wildwood this time of day or time of year.  All I know is what I'm seeing and hearing from my back porch...barely able to see down the street with major dripping (almost sounds like rain) from everywhere. Add to that the fragrance of the salty, briny marsh and all you need is a muffled fog horn somewhere in the distance for a perfect start to the day!  Yesterday was foggy too but not until you reached the beach/boardwalk area as Ms Sun broke through everywhere else over the island.  Once I got to the beach (for a walk on the boards) just before mid-day I was in it big time.  This early morn...fog lies everywhere over the island and with no breezes to note.  Today will be a pleasant, unseasonably warm day as temps rise into the low 60s (no typo) with Ms Sun burning all this moisture out later this morning.  Breezes will be out of the S-SW at 12-16 mph.  Tonight... some patchy fog returns with a 40% chance of showers, temps in the upper 40s / low 50s with breezes out of the SW at 8-10mph.   By the looks of things after this afternoon, we may not see a bright, sunny day until Monday as clouds, mist, fog and rain showers are on the future weather menu.

Play Misty For Me

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood.  The marshy, briny fragrance is in the morning air! It feels mild when you step outside this morning.  It's overcast and a bit foggy and misty with no breezes to note.   It'll be a mild, damp, gray day with temps in the mid-upper 50s with a small chance of peeks of sun by this afternoon.  Breezes will be out of the SW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...the misty, fog continues to lay over the island right into tomorrow with temps in the upper 40s / low 50s and breezes out of the S-SW at 9-12mph.  Ms Sun may check in after mid-day tomorrow so count on some grayness for another day or so.

Happy President's Day!

Mornin'!  Happy President's Day (at least for the first 44 of them)!  Slept in a bit again today and it feels really good.  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's trying to shine through some milky clouds this morning with S-SW breezes at 5-7mph.  Looks like we'll have those clouds checked in throughout most of the day leading into misty (possibly foggy) conditions tonight.  Today's temps will be in the upper 40s with winds out of the South at 10-12mph.  Tonight's temps will be in the mid-upper 40s with S-SW breezes at 10-12mph.  Expect lots of cloud cover tomorrow too as Ms Sun's taking some time off (at least until Wednesday).  We could see peeks of her for the next couple days but that lovely warmth she provides us when shining strong in the winter probably won't be felt.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  It's dry, crisp and clear outside this morning.  Breezes are out of the NW at 15-20mph. The clouds have just made way for Ms Sun's rise over the horizon. We had a nice dose of heavy rain (including a little icy wintry mix) last night and the island now feels clean and fresh.  It'll be a sunny Sunday with temps in the low-mid 40s and breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clear with temps around where they are now (mid-upper 30s) and breezes (hardly there) out of the NW at 4-6mph.  Tomorrow...much like today with some clouds in the mix and rain due in by tomorrow night.

50-50 Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  Slept in a bit this morning and although I'm thankful for room darkening drapes, it's awesome having this much sunshine throughout the house!  It's not going to last all day though unfortunately.  There's a very light, crisp breeze out of the E-NE at 4-6mph and it feels wintry and much colder than yesterday's step onto the ol' back porch...25° different.  It'll be a sunny morning with light breezes and by mid-day the clouds check in as temps hover around the mid-upper 30s.  Breezes will be out of the SE at 7-9mph.  Later this evening and into tonight...rain showers are coming our way as temps stay where they are today (mid-upper 30s) with breezes out of the E-SE at 13-15mph.  Tomorrow...waking to rain as the room darkeners will be once again doing their trick as Ms Sun intends to check in by late morning as a sunny Sunday's on tap.

Mostly Wet TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood NJ. That's no typo! It was a bit of a shocker to step on the porch and feel the balmy temp this early morn.  It's only 8° cooler than New Orleans right now.  My head's still a bit in the Crescent City. Wildwood's currently under cloud cover with no breezes to note.  That mild temp will be the high for today as colder temps are on tap.  Today will be wet as rain showers are on the weather menu beginning sometime this morning.  It'll become cold again as the temperature will progressively drop throughout the day and by late tonight will be in the upper 30s / low 40s.  Early SW winds (10-15mph) will switch to NW (10-15mph) by this afternoon right into this evening as the rains should have checked out by then.  Rain is checking back in tomorrow evening though.  It won't be snow or icy mix like the mainland or the Philly area will be receiving.  Yay!

New Moon Today

Mornin'!  I'm home!  Got home last evening to a blast from the past winter chill. At least that's what it felt like.  It's currently 43° in Wildwood NJ.  It's misty as we're under cloud cover as fog is laying heavy on the island.  Breezes are out of the SW at 15-17mph.  It feels like 35°.  It'll be mostly cloudy and gray today with peeks of sun (if we're lucky).  Temps will rise quite a bit as we could see upper 50s today.  I'm not expecting "balmy" although Ms Sun's rays breaking through will help a great deal and be the determining factor whether it'll feel raw and damp or mild with a hint of Spring (just 33 days away).  Breezes will be out of the W-SW at 15-18mph.  Tonight...mostly cloudy, misty with a 30% chance of showers and temps in the upper 40s / low 50s with breezes out of the SW at 18-20mph.  Tomorrow looks like today with 50% chance of rain and mist and stiffer breezes.  And, just for the record...preparations for a wintry mix beginning Saturday night into Sunday looks like it could be in order as more rain is expected with much lower temps.  The New Moon is today bringing higher than usual tides just an fyi.  It's all good.  Speaking of "good"...it's good to be home!  I had a little taste of damp, muggy, mild and a bit chilly (at times) weather (mid-upper 50s/60s) while in New Orleans including a lovely taste of Spring and even Summer.  For just a couple days, there were actual warm days with peeks of sunshine and temps in the upper 70s / low 80s.  The magnolia trees are in full bloom as well as daffodils and other Spring flora and fauna beginning to decorate the landscape.  Something shocking to see and very unsettling was the Palm trees...almost everywhere you looked, the big beautiful palms were brown and crisp from a harsh, icy, frigid January.  I'm hoping there's still life under those brown fronds as the palm trees are a huge part of New Orlean's beautiful, charming character.  One thing's for sure...Spring is headed in both our directions.  In the meantime...I brought home some authentic Cajun / Creole seasonings to kick my recipes up a notch!

TGIF - Vacation Time

Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear and starlit but the horizon's beginning to beautifully brighten with an array of colors as sunrise is just around the corner (about a half hour away).  It's still with hardly a breeze (N-NE 2-3mph).  It'll be a sunny start to the day with temps heading into the 30s (mid-upper 30s by later this afternoon).  The clouds intend to check in later today as breezes commence from the S-SW at 9-12mph.  Tonight...mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 30s with breezes out of the South at 13-15mph. The weekend's looking like mild temps (tapping 50°) but wet as the rains begin late tomorrow night with a 95% chance of rain all day Sunday.  Looks like we may not see Ms Sun again until Wednesday.  And, it looks the same for New Orleans. Speaking of which...heading there later this afternoon for a rainy Mardis Gras celebration (hopefully not "all rain" while there). We were very fortunate to have been invited by our oldest daughter and her husband to share in their Mardis Gras celebration this year at their home in New Orleans and we've happily accepted!  So if interested in the Wildwood NJ weather while my hiatus is effect, just do this...click on "Wunderground" at the bottom right side of my blog page under "Personal Favs" and once on their homepage type in Wildwood's zip code "08260" and you'll have the most accurate weather forecast (in my opinion) until I get home next week (sometime around Ash Wednesday) to break it all down for ya!  See ya on the other side!

Sunny Winter's Day

Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear with breezes out of the NW at 14-18mph.  The horizon's beginning to lighten as Ms Sun's lying in the wings ready to rise and shine (around 7am).  Eakin's Oval (the Plaza in front of the Art Museum)in Center City Philadelphia is already packed with Eagles Fans for the big (and I'm talking "big") parade today.  I'd love to venture off the island and head to my hometown (about 2 hrs away) but it's not happening.  I'll be watching from my living room television as I finish packing for my New Orleans Mardis Gras vacation tomorrow! I've been looking forward to a little parading myself as of late.
For today's weather...it'll be much like Philly's weather as Ms Sun will be shining down (expect a little cloud cover in the big blue sky) as temps won't be much higher than they are now...low-mid 30s with breezes out of the NW at 13-15mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 20s / low 30s and breezes out of the W-NW at 5-7mph. If heading to the Eagles parade, bundle up big time.  I sure don't need to remind Philly folk how to dress for a Winter's day parade!  They've got this one!  Congrats Eagles!

Rainy Humpday

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining very lightly.  I call it "spitting".  The breezes are fairly light out of the SE at 7-11mph and that'll be changing a bit later.  It's gonna be a gray, wet, windy humpday.  There's a 90% chance of rain today with winds beginning out of the SE, then shifting this morning from the S-SW at 25-30mph and again tonight...NW at 20-25mph.  Today's temps will get up into the mid-upper 40s and tonight's...right about where they are now.   So prepare for a blustery, raw, wet one today.  Tomorrow...Ms Sun's back with colder temps.  The weekend...more rain.

Mild Winter's Day

Mornin'!  It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  It's hazy with stars and moon barely making it through the milky clouds.  Breezes are out of the South at 3-6mph and barely worth mentioning.  It'll be a "mix" day with a mix of clouds and sun as temps tap 40°.  Breezes will be varied as well beginning with Southerly breezes and by later this morning turning SW and by this afternoon shift from the W-NW and by this evening NW and by bedtime...NE.  Tonight will be partly clear / partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 30s and breezes out of the N-NE at 6-8mph.  It's looking like rain by tomorrow afternoon.

Congratulation to the Philadelphia Eagles!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear and still (no breezes to note).  Ms Sun's sticking around today as we'll have plentiful sunshine.  The breezes will be checking in from the NW at 25-30mph a little later this morning.  By this evening, they'll simmer down.  It looks like it will be a blustery Monday with clear blue skies and temps in the mid-upper 30s.  Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 20s and breezes still out of the NW at 5-8mph. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles!  What a wonderful achievement to win the Super Bowl.  They so deserved this.  First in my lifetime and I'm no Spring Chicken!  Just checked that one off my bucket list!  It was worth the wait.  I loved watching the thousands of Philly fans on TV gather for their celebration at a street intersection which I grew up on!  In this sleepy little island 90 miles away was the little island of Wildwood with its own celebrations as neighborhood fireworks with shouts and screams of joy were heard here too after the win! So excited.  Congrats!

Super Bowl Sunday - Go Birds!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear, moonlit, starlit, still and fragrant (not much in the line of breezes...Southerly 2-3mph but the air is sweet with that salty brine).  We're clear now but we're in for some rain later.  The start of today will be clear then clouds begin to roll on in.  Expect rain showers to begin by later morning / mid-day as temps climb into the mid-upper 40s.  Expect winds too as they'll be pushing the rain towards us from the South at 18-20mph +gusting.  It'll be wet and raw with rain off and on throughout the day and evening into the early morning.  Tonight...wet with temps in the low 40s with breezes out of the W-SW at 20-25mph.  We should wake to clear skies with the winds staying checked in tomorrow.

Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 20° in Wildwood NJ.  No breezes to note (NE 2-4mph) with clear, sunny skies.  Ms Sun just rose over the horizon.  She'll be sticking around today as temps tap 30° and breezes shift from the SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clouds begin to drift on in as temps drop back down into the upper 20s / low 30s with breezes out of the S-SW at 18-26mph making it feel like being in the teens with a windchill.  It's looking like tomorrow will be a rain event with 90% chance of showers as temps will be in the upper 40s!   I saw in the news that NOAA (The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association / The National Weather Service) may agree somewhat with the ol' Groundhog's prediction of 6 more weeks of winter (they're saying about 4 more weeks is likely as is the normal as well as stats) but not for the Southeast section of the USA as temps look to be warming up a little quicker than the rest of us.  Just saying.

Groundhog Day - TGIF

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining along with a wintry mix, very windy (W-NW 20-30mph) and a perfect day to pull the comforter up to your chin and roll over.  It's Groundhog day and I'm sure all those Punxsutawney Phil's groupies at Gobblers Knob are gathered around in some icy, freezing cold weather this very minute waiting to see if this rodent will see his shadow or not...6 more weeks of winter or not.  By the time I'm finished posting, we'll know for sure as the inner circle decide when to open Phil's door and get him up.  I'm sure his comforter is up around his chin!  It'll be a cold, blustery, winter's day today down the shore as Ms Sun will only partly shine.  It'll be a partly sunny / partly cloudy day with temps dropping into the low-mid 20s as winds stay checked in...NW 20-30mph.  It'll be cold and raw with a windchill.  Tonight...clear and cold with NW winds at 15-25mph and temps in the low 20s with a windchill of 11°.  The weekend still looks 50-50 with Saturday being the sunnier, colder and drier of the 2 days as we're expecting rain on Sunday.

A Little Cloud Cover / A Little Sunshine

Mornin'!  Happy February! It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's overcast and breezy (SW 19-22mph).  It'll be partly cloudy / partly sunny today with temps just about tapping 40°.  Breezes will be out there all day into tonight from the SW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...rain showers with temps in the mid-upper 30s and breezes out of the W-SW at 12-14mph.  The rain showers could turn to snow before daybreak tomorrow as more snow showers are on tap and just like the other day it'll probably only be a crusty coating as no accumulation is posted.  One thing's for certain though...it'll be windy as hell tomorrow!
