See ya next year March and Rain, Rain...

Mornin'! Happy Birthday Pat! It's currently 41 degrees this thick, cloud covered (say that fast 3 times), misty, chilly, rainy, last day of March. Winds are minimal for now and will pick up later (out of the NE at 15-25mph) with gusting. Sounds like a great day at the Shore...not...although I love visiting the beach on days like this. The sky and sea do put on quite a performance. So, we're looking at rain into Saturday. The weekend's looking rain-free, then come next week...it starts raining again. April's providing her showers right out of the starting gate. For today...heavy rains will develop later in the day as the morning will just be misty and/or drizzly (is that a word?). Temps will be in the mid-upper 40's. Wildwood could get up to 1" of rain and there is a tidal flood watch out for today due to the new moon. High tide:6:45p.m.; Low tide:12:33p.m.; Ocean Temp:49°. 82 days until Summer! 2 days until Key West!

A Brief Clear Start of the Day...

Mornin'...not so clear as humpday develops today. It's currently a wintry 32° this starlit, brisk, clear early morn in Wildwood. Temps will rise into the 40's (mid-upper) as the clouds cover the sunny sky and bring rain by mid-afternoon. Breezes will be off the ocean (Southeast) at 10-15mph; then switch to the NE later bringing even chillier air. Rains will continue off and on tonight into the overnight. Looking like rain continuing right up until Saturday. There's a "new" moon on Friday and along with all the rain...high risk for flooding on the island so keep that in mind while out and about. Don't drive through flood waters. So, I'm thinking some choices here...warm sweats and something hot in a mug (hot chocolate, tea, soup or toddy), hit the gym and work up a good sweat (you don't need a gym to do that though), or belly up to a tiki bar somewhere tropical to get away from the raw winter chill. I'll be opting for the 3rd choice...Key West in 3 days! This is Spring right? 83 days until Summer! Oh...almost forgot the tides...high tide:6:06p.m.; low tide:11:53a.m.; ocean temp: 48°.

Sunny at the Seashore

Mornin'! It's just about 40° in Wildwood this bright, brisk, clear, sunny start of the day. Clouds will enter the scene a little later. Temps will rise into the mid-upper 50's as the sun hangs around most of the day. There are no breezes to note...yet; but will come later from the NW at 15-20mph much like yesterday. It's been fairly dry in and around the island and forecasters have posted a "red flag warning" for easy fires igniting on the dry grasses and pine forests surrounding us. Careful of those cigarette butts. Rains are coming tomorrow. High tide:5:21p.m.; Low tide: 11:08a.m.; Ocean temp: 48°. Cherry blossoms are about to burst open!

Sunny Start of the Week

Mornin'! It's currently a brisk 34° in WW this dark, starlit early morn. Should be a beautiful, bright sunrise in about an hour or so from now. Temps will rise into the 40's (mid-upper) and feel pretty nice with sun shining, blue skies and seabreeze. That light seabreeze will be taken over by a NW breeze later this afternoon gusting at 20+ mph. Pretty much the same for tomorrow as we're expecting a rainy Wednesday. Today's tides...High:4:25p.m.; Low:10:15a.m.; Ocean temp: 48°. 84 days until summer; it really is heading this way! Footnote: it's 2pm and it's been a mostly cloudy day today. The sun's trying to break through, but for the most part...cloud cover.

Sunny Sunday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DO!

Afternoon! Running late - sorry - especially to you Jim. Back from a terrific overnight in Philly (an old friend's surprise birthday party). It's 43° and sunny in WW. There's minimal clouds and breezes (NW -7mph). Same for tomorrow and tuesday but a tad warmer each day. Wednesday...the rains come back. High tide:3:04p.m.; Low Tide:9:22p.m.; Ocean temp: 50°. How's that Jim?

Sunny, Cool, Breezy Saturday

Mornin'! Ol' Man Winter's overstaying his welcome big time as it's 27° in WW this early morn. Skies are clear and not much of a breeze but brrrr...it's chill-chill out there. Temps are heading back into the 40's today (mid-upper) and who knows it may get into the 50's like it eventually did yesterday. The sun was stronger than predicted, so maybe the same is in store for us islanders today. Here's the part I hate...snow (you read that correctly) is heading this way tonight. Well...I'm calling it "Flurries" or a "light dusting" will be (I'm having a very hard time typing this) heading this way by this evening and could stick around through the night...taking us right into Sunday morning. Temps will be heading into the 20's tonight + NW winds (15mph) + moisture from the skies = white stuff. By tomorrow afternoon the warm sun should be returning and push the winter situation right out of here...we can only hope once and for all. High tide:2:13p.m.; Low tide:8:28p.m.; Ocean Temp: 50°. 86 days until summer!

Cold, Clear, Friday. Happy Birthday Dawn!

Mornin'! Winter's still checked in...it's currently 34° in Wildwood. Skies are clear and starlit this dark quiet morning and looks like we'll have a nice sunrise; something we haven't had as of late. Temps will only be in the low 40's today. The sun that does make it through will be that milky, ineffective sunshine as clouds will filter in later. NW winds (15-20mph) are going to be keeping the island cold as well. Pretty much the same for tomorrow until Sunday brings more of the wet stuff...could be rain; could be the ol' wintry mix. High tide:1:05p.m.; Low tide:7:03p.m.; Ocean temp: 49°. 87 days until Summer!

Ol' Man Winter's Still Checked In!

Mornin'! How 'bout those torrents last night? Whew! Flood sirens were wailing in the midnight hour in Wildwood. Some streets are still flooded but no damage to report. It's quieted down as the rains have subsided but the mist lingers on. It's 37 unseasonable degrees this morning. The sky is thickly cloud covered as the ocean's loudly dancing in the dark and light showers are going to linger off and on this morning. Clouds will clear somewhat today as the NW winds blow them right out at 10-20mph but it'll feel cold and blustery at 40° or so. Ol' man winter's hanging around today and isn't checking out so fast as it looks like he's in a pattern...a couple wet, windy, cold days; then one sunny, warm day; then back to the wet, windy, cold again for the upcoming week or so which includes this weekend. 88 days until Summer! High tide:High Noon; Low tide:6:07p.m.; Ocean temp:50°. RIP Liz.

Hump Day Drearies

Mornin'! It's currently 41° in Wildwood. It's dark and damp this early morn. There's a slight drizzle happening as I type which will become periods of rain as the day progresses. It'll stay cold (staying in the 40's), be breezy (out of the East at 15mph) and just be crappy right up till tomorrow afternoon when there's a chance we could see some breaks of sunshine to possibly give us some warmth. Just a raw, cold and dreary one today. High tide:11:05a.m.; Low tide:5:11p.m.; Ocean temp:50°. 89 days until Summer!

Tuesday Mix

Mornin'! Wildwood's waking up with some cloud cover. It's making for that loud ocean roar in the distance. Only a smidgen of stars and clear skies can be see in the tiny openings in the darkness. Sunrise (may be obscured) is at 7:00am today. It's currently 46° in WW. Not much breeze happening "yet". A NW breeze of 10-20mph is headed this way later today. There will be a mix of sun and clouds to start the day while rain is scheduled by this evening as those clouds will increase and take right over. Some spots around our island (west and north) may even see a wintry mix. Temps will go up to the mid-upper 50's today. We may not see the 50's again for quite awhile so enjoy today. Looking like ol' Man Winter may be trying to check back in; that's not good. But it is good to see you back out there Jim. High tide:10:11a.m.; Low tide:4:20p.m.; Ocean temp: 50°. 90 days until Summer!

Blustery and Wet Monday

Mornin'! The week's starting out with rain in the early morning darkness. It's currently chilly/42° and will go into the 50's (mid-upper 50's) by this afternoon. Rain showers will continue off and on throughout the day. It shouldn't be a total washout, but by this afternoon, these occasional showers could turn into a rip roaring thunderstorm or two bringing along winds from 15mph to gusts of 40mph. High tide:9:20a.m.; Low tide:3:36p.m.; Ocean temp: 51°. 91 days until Summer!

Welcome Spring!

Mornin'! Spring's in the air as it begins at 7:21p.m. today. It's gonna feel like a nice Spring day...temps currently 36° rising to the 50° mark later with sunny, blue skies and a gentle NE breeze at 5-10mph. Breath in the Spring sea air! High tide: 8:30a.m.; Low tide: 2:49p.m.; Ocean temp: 50°; moon rise: 8:46p.m. Next countdown begins...92 days until Summer!

Last day of Winter and back to cooler temperatures

Mornin'! It's back to more of a cooler Spring-like feel as temperature is 51° in Wildwood this morning. Gardens are coming alive. Porch windows are open this morning. Sun's shining and the seabreezes are minimal coming from the N-NW at 15mph. Temps will stay in the 50's and may hit the 60° mark later as the sun sticks around and heats up the island. A nice day overall. Tomorrow will feel pretty much the same as today. That big full moon I was telling you about yesterday will perform again today with a giant moonrise over the horizon at 7:29p.m. this evening. High tide:8:10p.m. (almost coinciding with the moonrise); Low tide: 1:58p.m.; Ocean temp: 51°. One more day until Spring! I knew this day would come! Get out and enjoy the sea & salt today!

Groundhog was Right...Winter's outta here!

Mornin! It's gonna be a beaut today as we begin with 48° and head right into the 70's! You read that right as forecasters are predicting 70° for island by this afternoon. For now...it's morning darkness over Wildwood as it's a bit chilly but the skies are clear. The stars and moon are welcoming the day as sunrise is 7:06 this morning. It'll be warm, partly sunny, breezy (offshore breezes at 15-20mph) as the day preludes Spring beginning this weekend but I think Wildwood may feel a morsel of summer today. Could be a day the beachchair gets dusted off. The Full moon is tonight and will rise at 6:13p.m. The moon will appear unusally huge as it reaches the point in its cycle known as "lunar perigee" as it will be the closest it has been to Earth since 1992. It'll appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a usual full moon. This phenomenom has reportedly hightened concerns about "supermoons" being linked to extreme weather events (earthquakes and the like). Previous "Super Moons" occurred in 1955, 1974, 1992, 2005. Today's tides: high tide:7:22p.m.; low tide:1:11p.m.; Ocean temp: 50°; The Summer countdown begins on Sunday!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Mornin'! Irish eyes will be smiling today at the forecast...it'll be really nice. It's currently 48° with cloudy skies in Wildwood. Not a star in the early morning; just clouds for now as the Sun's supposed to be coming so says the forecasters. Sunrise is 7:07 this morning...not sure if it will obscured by the clouds or not. It'll be mostly sunny today with mild temps...heading into the 60's with a NW breeze at 10-15mph. High tide:6:33p.m.; Low tide:12:23p.m.; Ocean temp: 49°; Full moon: 2 more days; Spring: 3 more days! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Stormy Hump Day!

Mornin'! It's currently 46° this morning as the rains are pouring down along with thunder and lightning as the blogging goes down. Lots of weather happening outside. Streets are a tad floody as the island's in the morning "high tide" time zone, but nothing over the top or that we haven't seen before. The rains will continue a bit more until skies clear just after daybreak. Today will become mostly clear as the clouds drift out of here. Blue skies are supposed to return with sun shining as temps rise into the high 50's and maybe even hitting the 60° mark. There will be a SE breeze at 10-15mph. Tonight...back into the 30's. High tide:5:40p.m.; Low tide:11:33a.m.; Ocean temp:48°. 4 days until Spring!

Ides of March with a Chill in the air

Mornin'! Keep thinking "Spring is in the air" even though it's currently 30° this cold, frosty, dark, clear, still, morning in Wildwood. Rain's in the air too. It'll start out clear and sunny but clouds will filter in later today and bring the showers that will continue through tonight into Wednesday. Today's temps will stay in the mid-upper 40's with a S-SE breeze at 10-15mph. Temperatures will rise with each passing day this week and if we're lucky, WW may see and feel a 70° day (yes...you read that right) by Friday as well as a Full moon. Spring is Saturday! Whew..alot going on the end of this week and it's all good! Today's tides: high tide:4:42p.m.; low tide: 10:39a.m.; ocean temp: 48°. By the way...the Ides of March is commemorating the day that Julius Caesar was murdered and in Rome they're doing their Toga Run.

Last Week Of Winter

Mornin'! This last week of winter will begin with temps just about reaching 50° but could end in the 70's. It's clear and calm and 43° this still starlit Monday morning (back to early morning darkness). There's some rain headed this way on Wednesday and maybe again on Friday. For today...dry with breezes out of the NW at 5mph and remaining clear and sunny as blue skies will abound over the island. I noticed over the weekend the wetlands and salt marshes and seagrasses have a slight change of color. The brown, winter, hibernation color is now beginning to show signs of life as some pale, light greens are now evident. Landscape's-a-changin'! High tide:3:36p.m.; Low tide:9:39a.m.; Ocean temp: 45°; Some daylight savings time numbers...sunrise;7:13a.m.; sunset:7:05. Last night, loved having dinner with the sunlight pouring in with just 6 days until Spring!

Dry, Sunny Sunday

Mornin'! It's currently 45° in Wildwood. It's 7a.m. in my brain and 8a.m. on all the clocks as they were turned forward an hour before turning in. Sun's pouring in as it rose about an hour ago. It's a bit hazy with some milky cloud cover and causing the ocean's roar to be heard over the island. It'll be mostly sunny throughout the day with temps in the lo-mid 50's. Breezes are nowhere to be felt right now, but they'll be present later coming out of the West at 10-20mph. High tide: 2:25P.M.; Low tide:8:33A.M.; Ocean temp: 46°. One more week until Spring! Oh...sunset's at 7:04P.M.!

Spring Ahead!

Mornin! Jeez...just seems like yesterday that it was November 6th and I was blogging a reminder to turn your clocks back. Well...it's that time again as we Spring ahead and lose an hour sleep while turning our clocks ahead one hour tonight. (keep a posted note handy if you're out and about tonight celebrating Irish Weekend).Welcome back sunny drive home from work and sunny dinner hours! Spring is in the air as it's only just about a week away. 8 more days! It's 47° in Wildwood this morning. Sun's rays are shining in the front porch windows and there's the smell of the sea in the morning air as seagulls are screaming loudly at something. No breezes to speak of as the sun warms the day. Temps will rise to the low-mid 50's as breezes will come along later (with some clouds) out of the SW at 15-20mph (the island may have some gusting). High tide: 12:24p.m.; Low tide:6:04p.m.; Ocean Temp: 46°.

Friday, March 11, 2011

Brighter days ahead!

Mornin'! It's 48° in Wildwood this early morn. Even though the sky is still thickly cloud covered and the island's totally saturated from a thorough overnight soaking, a brighter day is ahead. Temps will rise to the mid-upper 50's as the clouds somewhat make way for Miss Sun. It'll be partly cloudy/sunny today with winds coming from the SW at 10-15mph as the drying out commences. High tide: 11:16a.m.; Low tide: 5:18p.m.; Ocean Temp: 46°. The weekend's looking pretty much a repeat of today with a bit more sun than today...of course daylight savings time's going to kick into gear and help her along. 9 days until Spring...it's coming!

Gale Watch - Weather Advisory

Mornin'! Flood and Weather advisories today; not to mention Gale Watch. It's currently 48° in Wildwood with a light breeze and even lighter drizzle. Ever since last evening, the roar of the ocean six blocks away sounded like a freight train right outside the front door...that's with doors and windows closed up tight. It's amazing how intensely loud the thunder of the ocean could be heard all through the night and still can be (perhaps Gale?). It'll be cloudy, very breezy with periods of rain throughout the day; the heaviest beginning this early evening as 1-2 inches of rain and some flooding is expected. You've been forewarned. Temps will be in the mid-upper 50's along with SE winds at 15-25mph with gusts of 40mph (perhaps Gale again?). High tide:10:32a.m.; Low tide:4:32p.m.; Ocean temp:46° 10 days until Spring!

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Ash Wednesday

Mornin'! It's 37° this morning in WW. It's clear; the sun's about to rise; it's still...no breezes to write about. It's all about to change though. Clouds will be thickening as the day moves along and the temps go up (mid-upper 40's) and breezes will become seabreezes out of the East directly off the ocean at 10-20mph. Even though it will stay dry today, it's gonna feel cold and damp as the rains are heading this way overnight. They'll stick around all day tomorrow too. Sunny start to the day today; gray beginning of Lent. High tide: 9:56a.m.; Low tide:3:55p.m.; Ocean temp: 46°. 11 days until Spring!

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Shrove Tuesday - Fastnaught Day - Fat Tuesday

Mornin'! Time to make the doughnuts! It's 34° this dark, wintry morning before Lent. Sky is midnight blue and starlit and the horizon's just beginning to lighten up as dawn approaches. Breezes are minimal. Temps will rise along with the sun and be pretty much a repeat of yesterday...mid-upper 40's and a warm, sunny, wintry day. Breezes will be minimal out of the NE at 5-15mph. We'll head back to the 30's tonight. Tomorrow...winds will return bringing clouds and rains by Thursday. High tide:9:22a.m.; Low tide:3:23p.m.; Ocean temp:46°. 12 days until Spring!

Monday, March 7, 2011

Monday Mix

Mornin'! It's 37° chilly degrees in Wildwood this early, overcast, dark, windy morn. The winds sound like a freight train roaring down the street at 17-23mph (out of the North) with gusting off the charts. The skies are just beginning to lighten and all I see are clouds. There are some clouds in the direction of the horizon going from black to shades of light and dark blues mixed with grays. The seascape should be interesting later this morning when the sun begins to add various warm colors to the sky. Today will be clear and rain-free but the winds will stick around most of the day making for a totally bad hair day. Temps will only stay in the mid-upper 40's. Enjoy as the rains are coming back in a couple days for the latter part of the week. Today's tides...High: 8:50a.m.; Low tide:2:54p.m.; Ocean temp:44°. 13 days until Spring!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Rains-are-a-coming!

Mornin'! It's currently 48° in Wildwood this thick cloud covered Sunday morning. It's gonna stay cloud covered all day until they open and the rains commence this morning or early afternoon. Temps will rise into the mid-upper 50's and stay somewhat mild, but it's sounding like a "raw" day in my opinion. As rain develops and becomes steadier and more intense by early evening...it will continue raining all night long bringing the island 1 - 2 inches. No island takes well to 1-2" of torrential rains. The ducks will love it though. Just watch for flooding as that's a given. Breezes will be out of the South at 15-20mph. High tide: 8:15a.m. and again at 8:30p.m.; Low tide: 2:22p.m.; Ocean temp: 43°. 2 weeks until Spring!

Saturday, March 5, 2011

50/50 Weekend

Mornin'! Today's the better of the two days this weekend for sure. It's currently 46 degrees in WW as the sun's doing its best to light up the island. Lots of beautifully colored, thick clouds combined with blue skies and bright sun all coming together for a lovely, bright, colorful beginning to the day. Temps will rise into the mid-upper 50's as the southerly breeze will increase throughout the day at 15-20mph with gusting. Cloud intervals will increase as the evening approaches as rain is headed this way for a couple days beginning tomorrow. High tide:7:39a.m.; Low tide:1:49p.m.; Ocean temp:46°. 15 days until Spring!

Friday, March 4, 2011

Decent Start to the Weekend

Mornin'! It's a somewhat clear (milky sky) start of the day with a temperature of 25° and not much breeze to write about. Temps will go into the mid-upper 40's today with partly cloudy/partly sunny (you pick) skies. Breezes will be minimal at 7-13mph coming out of the SW. Overall...a decent day. Saturday and Sunday: although temperatures will rise into the mid-upper 50's, rain and winds are predicted by tomorrow evening and continuing right through Sunday. High tide:7:02a.m.; Low tide:1:13p.m.; Ocean temp: 45°. 16 days until Spring!

Thursday, March 3, 2011

A Perfect Winters Day!

Mornin'! If you have to have a Winter Day...this is the one to have! It's currently 22° in Wildwood this morning. It's clear, brisk and breezy. Sun will stick around glistening on the ocean all day. Winds are coming out of the N-NW at 10-20mph and will gust even higher. One good thing is the winds will subside by later this afternoon. Temps will only hit the mid-upper 30's, but head down into the 20's by tonight again. It's still looking kinda crappy for the weekend albeit temps will stay in the mid-upper 50's...but winds and rain are in this weekend's mix. I'm thinking some homemade soup this weekend could be on the schedule as 50° or not...it's sounding rough and raw on the island Saturday and Sunday. Today's high tide:6:30a.m.; Low tide:12:46p.m.; Ocean temp: 45° and 17 days until Spring!

THE GREAT WHITE! Jes Loren..Wildwood NJ 2008

Beginning of a temperature roller coaster ride

Mornin'! It's currently 34° in Wildwood this morning. It's still dark but the sky is star studded and clear. The sun will be an amazing first act this morning as the sea's horizon provides the stage. How's that for today's weather literary opener? Whatever. It's gonna be mild and in the mid-upper 50's today. Sun will abound; so will the winds coming from the SW at 15-25mph with gusting. Later, they'll shift from the NW. It's looks like the rest of the week will be dry at least until Sunday when rains are predicted. Tomorrow...temps will drop in the 30's, then Friday go back into the 40's, and Saturday go back up to the 50's. Transitioning into Spring...like riding the Great White baby (see the above Youtube video)! High tide:6:07p.m.; Low tide:11:56a.m.; Ocean temp:45°. 19 days until Spring!
