Hump Day Sayonara

Mornin'! It's time to say good-bye to January.  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  Winds are out of the E-NE at 10-15mph making it feel like 33°.  We're surrounded by cloud cover again.  There's a spot right along the horizon that Ms Sun is trying to peek through but not yet providing any morning sunshine.  It smells briny and fishy in the morning dampness out there.  Expect scattered light rain showers this morning with another mostly cloudy day ahead.  We could see peeks of sunshine throughout the day and it remains to be seen.  Temps will be around 43° with these E-NE winds checked in all day at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly clear skies with temps in the mid-30s and very light breezes.  Tomorrow... Ms Sun's back!  February's kicking off with a lovely sunny day, temps near 50° and SW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... partly to most cloudy, temps in the low-40s with SW breezes.  Friday... mostly clear with some clouds in the mix, temps in the low-mid 40s.  Saturday... sunny and temps around 40° with light winds.  Sunday... sunny, 45° with light winds.  Sayonara January!  Even though you were packing loads of clouds this year, much appreciation for no need to shovel!  See ya on the other side!

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  More cloud cover this morning with breezes out of the N-NE at 4-7mph.  It's damp and raw outside and feels like 29°.  It'll be partly cloudy this morning with some peeks of sunshine but clouds will thicken by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-40s with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and Easterly winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... another cloudy day early with possible peeks of sunshine later in the day, temps in the mid-40s and breezy with NE winds at 10-20mph.  Thursday... February's kicking off with the "pick of the week"... plentiful sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 40s and W-SW winds at 4-8mph.  Friday looks like it may follow suit.

Mostly Cloudy Week Ahead

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  It's raining lightly and feels like 31° with the winds out of the N-NW at 10-15mph along with that raw, dampness in the salty air... it's chilly out there.  It's still dark as daylight and the sunrise (which we won't have the privilege of seeing this morning) isn't for another half hour.  It'll be a rainy morning (80% chance) with a partly to mostly cloudy day on tap.  We just may see another passing shower later as well as Ms Sun peeking through the clouds later this morning or this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with NW winds at 15-20mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... the sun will be shining "partly" with temps in the low-mid 40s and North winds at 5-10mph.  There's no rain in tomorrow's forecast.  Tomorrow night... partly to mostly cloudy, temps around 39° with East winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... I'm sounding like a broken record as it'll be mostly to partly cloudy conditions with 20% chance of rain and temps in the mid-40s. We may see peeks of sunshine too.  Thursday... the pick of the week... mostly sunny and blue skies, temps around 46° and light and variable winds.  Friday's looking partly to mostly cloudy with mild winter temperatures... mid-upper 40s.

Rainy Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 33° with the E-NE winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  It's dark and gray (although sunrise was a half an hour ago) with rain currently pounding down at a nice clip. The streets have more water than they should along the curbs.  It's a perfect morning to roll over and pull that comforter tighter around you.  It'll be a windy day with steady rain (100% chance) this morning, showers continuing this afternoon and more showers on and off this evening and into tonight.  Temps today will be in the upper 40s with NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... rain (50% chance) with temps in the upper 30s and N-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... rain early in the morning becoming overcast, temps in the mid-upper 40s and N-NW winds at 15-25mph bringing a cold chill.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and much calmer winds. Ms Sun will return again on Tuesday.

Fog's Back

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW
Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  We're in the "soup" again!  Fog has settled over the island again and we're damp and drippy. Winds are barely there out of the NW at 1-3mph.  Before I lay out today's weather, I have to report that Wildwood got up to 68° yesterday (that's according to my backporch thermometer) and with the warmth from all the sunshine, it felt very close to a Summer's day.  I'm not exaggerating. I know the meterologists from Philly had it all wrong when giving last night's forecast.  They simply included the coast as foggy and chilly like the big city.  They didn't have a clue what a warm beauty yesterday was in Wildwood.  For today... areas of dense fog this morning, becoming mostly cloudy (possible peeks of sun this afternoon),  temps in the low-50s with some North winds becoming east this afternoon at 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy with showers early becoming windy with a steady rain overnight.  Temps will drop into the low-40s with E-NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Chance of rain... 100%.  Tomorrow... rain (100% in the morning and 75-100% in the afternoon), temps in the upper 40s with NE winds ata 15-25mph.  Tomorrow night... more rain (80% chance) with temps dropping into the mid-30s and NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... rainy morning (70% chance) with windy conditions as it'll turn into a mostly cloudy day with temps in the mid-40s.  Monday night... partly cloudy and cold (temps just about tapping 30°).  Tuesday... sunny with temps around 40°.  We could see tidal flooding with this rain system checking in this weekend.  Be aware of those low-lying areas on the island as well as High Tide times.  Remember that the back side of the island (marsh/bay) has its high tides an hour later than the ocean's high tides.  And, don't drive through flood waters.

Last Friday In January

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  The soup's on as we're socked in with fog this morning.  Breezes are out of the S-SW at 7-9mph.  It'll be another gray day with areas of patchy fog, and a slight chance of a rain shower (15% chance).  Expect cloudy, foggy, misty conditions with temps in the low-60s (no typo).  Breezes will stay from the SW at 10-15mph.   There's a slight chance we could see breaks in the clouds as Ms Sun could peek through this afternoon. Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy, areas of patchy fog and temps down into the low-40s with light and variable breezes  Tomorrow... another mostly cloudy day with peeks of sun (maybe) and temps in the upper 40s / low 50s.  Winds will shift out of the N-NE at 5-10mph.  Sunday... another storm system checking in with rain and wind.  Expect a raw, rainy day on Sunday with temps in the upper 40s and NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Chance of rain is 90%.  Sunday night... periods of rain with winds out of the North at 10-20mph.  Monday... waking to rain, becoming cloudy by late morning then partly sunny with temps in the upper 40s and stiff winds.  I'm not an advocate of predicting weather too far out but I'd like to end the blog on a brighter note... it looks like the week including the end of January and beginning of February could only be "blue sky and sunshine" coming in our direction!

The Gray Days Continue

Mornin'!  It's 51° in Wildwood NJ.  It's mild outside that's for sure.  It's raining lightly.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 10-15mph.  It's not quite light yet, but it's gray with heavy cloud cover.  You can hear the ocean's roar from 6+ blocks away thanks to those clouds insulating the island sounds.  It'll be a gray, rainy day with areas of patchy fog.  Temps will certainly feel unseasonable at 55°.  SW winds will be blowing over the island at 10-20mph.  Chance of rain... 100%.  Tonight... cloudy and foggy with periods of rain (80% chance).  Temps will be in the upper 40s with S-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... overcast and gray with on and off rain showers (40% chance) and temps unseasonable again at 55°.  Winds will be out of the SW at 10-15mph.  Saturday... cloudy, patchy fog, temps in the upper 40s with Ms Sun peeking in and out during the late morning hours.  There's 70% chance of rain on Saturday night.  Sunday... a rainy, windy, stormy day with temps still mild (upper 40s) and winds out of the NE at 20-30mph.  Sunday night... rain continuing throughout the evening and overnight into early Monday morning.  Monday will continue into the gray skies.  We might see Ms Sun on Tuesday.  Today's the Full "Wolf" Moon.  Obviously we won't see it brightening the skies tonight, but tides will be high as well as more beach erosion should be expected.  Be aware of coastal flooding and low-lying areas on the island.  Do your best to avoid driving through any tide (flood) waters.  Be safe.

Gray Day

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  Daylight is just streaming in with Ms Sun no where to be found. Anything icy or snowy that was here before turning in last night... no longer exists.  We were on meltdown mode overnight with mild temps.  It's cloudy and mild outside with barely a breeze out of the S-SE at 4-6mph.  Expect a cloudy day with a slight chance of rain showers (15% chance).  Temps will rise into the upper 40s with Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... still cloudy, 40% chance of rain, temps in the mid-40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... 90% chance of rain, temps in the low-mid 50s, with S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday... showers in the morning (50% chance), temps almost tapping 60° and SW winds at 10-15mph.  As for this weekend: Saturday... partly sunny, temps in the upper 40s with rain beginning by later at night and Sunday... raining right through until Monday morning, temps in the upper 40s.  In Barrow (now known as Utqiagvik) Alaska, Ms Sun peeked above the horizon there for about an hour (1PM their time; 5PM our time on the East Coast) yesterday.  It was the first time since November 18th that they saw Ms Sun rise.  Unfortunately, it was mostly cloudy with blustery, snow-blowing conditions.  Not sure if I could live in darkness for 3+ months. Makes me grateful for my gray skies.

Cloud Cover's Comin'

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up.  Breezes are light out of the W-SW at 4-6mph.  Expect clouds to roll in and stay over the island for about 5 days.  They'll probably drift on out of here sometime Saturday morning.  Today... overcast beginning later this morning, temps in the low-40s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy, rain showers possibly  developing late (30% chance) with temps in the upper 30s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... rain showers possible in the morning (30% chance) with overcast, gray skies throughout the day, temps in the mid-upper 40s, winds out of the S-SE at 5-10mph.  Thursday... rain (60% chance), temps around 50° and winds out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  Friday... rain showers on and off  (50% chance) with temps in the mid-upper 50s, and W-SW winds at 15-20mph.  Yuck.  Sorry for this yucky forecast.  Even though the Full (Wolf) Moon is Thursday... we may only see it as higher than normal tides surrounding the island.  I doubt if we'll see it shining brightly this moon phase during this week's cloudy, wet forecasts.

Mornin'!  It's 25° in Wildwood NJ.  It's clear with not a cloud in the sky and Ms Sun's rising as I type.  Winds are light (finally) out of the NW at 4-6mph.  It'll be a sunny day with temps just about tapping 40° and W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear to partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 30s and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... an early mix of sun and clouds with clouds taking over the sky by afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-40s with W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... 60% chance of rain beginning in the very early morning hours along with temps in the mid-upper 40s and S-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Thursday and Friday also looking like rainy days as rain could be continuing into Saturday morning.

Partly to Mostly Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 25° in Wildwood NJ.  The winds are still howling and blowing in from the NW at 20-25mph +gusting.  It feels like 11° outside.  The lawns and untreated sidewalks are still covered in an icy layer of snow.  The sky is clear and along the horizon line there's a string of clouds that will make that 7:13AM sunrise a bit late this morning.  Once Ms Sun's up, it'll be a mostly sunny day.  Expect a mix of sun and some clouds today with temps in the low-30s (feeling like the low-20s) with winds out of the NW at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the low-mid 20s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, temps near 40° and W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... mostly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and winds out of the W-SW at 5-10mph.  Rain clouds will be filtering in overnight. Wednesday... still looking like a rain likely (70% chance) with temps in the upper 40s.   Thursday... rain likely.  Friday... rain likely.  And, by the way... the Full "Wolf" Moon is this coming Thursday.  And, 58 days until Spring!

Indigo's Outta Here

Mornin'!  It's 25° in Wildwood NJ.  With the winds, it feels like 12°.  Wildwood's had its first snowfall this year and is covered in a couple inches of snow.  It's sunny with howling winds all around us comiing from the NW at 20-25mph +gusting.  The ground is white and the sky is bright.  In fact, the sky is azure blue as Indigo headed out sometime overnight.  It'll be a sunny start with clouds increasing and remaining windy.  Expect sunshine turning to partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with temps in the mid-20s feeling like 11° with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Simply put... a "soup-making" day!  Tonight... variable cloudiness and still very windy (NW 20-30mph +gusting) with temps around 22° feeling like 10°.  Tomorrow... mainly sunny day with temps in the low-mid 30s and NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 30° feeling like 20° with the winds.  Monday... sunny, upper 30s and much calmer winds out of the SW.  Tuesday looks mostly cloudy with much milder temps and Wednesday looks like rain.  Now, where are those leeks?

Wintry Wet Wildwood

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy with snowfall just beginning to hit our coast.  Winds are out of the E-NE at 10-15mph making it feel like 28°.  A wet, snowy day is likely today as we're in the direct path of this next storm.  There's a "Winter Advisory" posted until 10pm tonight.  Here's the scoop... snow likely today with accumulation of up to 3 inches (another forecast I checked said up to 6 inches).  This could also be a wintry mix event as temperatures will be hovering around 35-39°.  Winds will be out of the N-NE at 10-20mph.  Chance of precipitation is 100%.  Whether or not it's snow, rain or a wintry mix it all remains to be seen.  One thing's for sure... Potato-Leek Soup is being made today as it's going to be cold, raw and wet here on the island.  Tonight... cloudy, flurries, temps in the low-20s and N-NW winds at 20-25mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny with high of 27° and NW winds at 20-30mph creating a biting windchill along with any blowing snow if we do get any accumulation.  Tomorrow night... mostly cloudy, temps in the teens and very windy NW winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  Sunday... sunny, temps around 35°, still blustery with NW winds at 20-25mph.  Monday... sunny, temps in the low-40s and much calmer winds.  Tuesday... much like Monday with more clouds than sunshine.

Thursday Mix of Sun and Clouds

Today's Webcam Shots - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 26° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun just rose over the horizon and is painting the wispy clouds framing her.  Winds are barely there out of the W-SW at 3-5mph.  It's a lovely winter's morning down the Shore.  It'll become partly cloudy today and mostly cloudy by this afternoon.  Temps will rise to around 40° with SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy, temps around freezing (32°) with North winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... the next storm "Indigo" checks in around 8AM with cloud cover, rain, snow, wintry mix and winds.  Chance of precipitation is 80% with temps barely tapping 40° and N-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... snow showers early, but clearing out later in the evening, temps around 22° with NW winds at 15-25mph.  Saturday... cloudy and windy with temps around 27° and NW winds at 20-30mph.  By Saturday evening... 23°, cloudy and still very windy.  Sunday... sunny and windy; temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 20-30mph.  Sunday night... clear, temps around 25° and N-NW winds at 10-20mph. Monday... sunny, 35° and much less winds.  Tuesday... partly sunny, 44°, winds light and variable.  From next Wednesday until Monday (the 29th) it'll being raining here down the Shore.  Six straight days of rain is what the weather forecasters are saying. In my opinion, it's too far out to determine that as being completely accurate, but I'm just typing what they're saying.

Baby It's Cold Outside!

Mornin'!  It's 21° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny with winds out of the W-NW at 15-20mph making it feel like 7 degrees!  We're really in it now as Winter's at hand and giving us the cold shoulder.  We're in the freeze zone.  Today's sunshine will bring the temps up to around 30° but unfortunately, the stiff winds (W-NW at 20-25+gusting) will make it feel like it's in the mid-teens.  Tonight... a few passing clouds, temps in the mid-upper 20s (feeling like 17°) with West winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... warmer with partly cloudy skies, becoming overcast, temps around 40° and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... temps in the upper 30s, cloudy, SW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday... the next storm "Indigo" checks in.  Seems like we're getting weekly storms as of late.  This one like the others will bring not only homemade soup but a mixture of rain and snow with accumulations of less than an inch (so they say).  It'll continue into Friday night with snow showers and very cold (20s-30s) temps and blustery winds.  As for the weekend... it looks like it'll be sunny but very cold and windy days with wind chills in the teens.  Keep those thermals, fleece, warm socks, glovelettes and whatever else works for you at hand!

Winter's Truly Arriving

Today's Webcam - North WW
Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 34° with the E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  It's past sunrise but the clouds are thick overhead. It almost feels like dawn hasn't arrived as it's very dark gray and dismal outside.  It's raining lightly as there are pockets of rain clouds all around us.  When I first went out onto the back porch to check the conditions it was raining lightly.  Everything is dripping wet.  When I turned in last night at halftime during the last Eagles loss ending their season, everything was blanketed in white from the snow (less than an inch).  This morning... the snow is all gone as the rain and warmer temps removed any of that white stuff.  Expect a gray day with  occasional rain showers this morning and by late this afternoon / early evening... a wintry mix.  Temps will start out in the mid-40s but will begin falling near freezing by this afternoon.  Winds will shift to the N-NW at 15-25mph +gusting.  Chance of rain or snowy mix today is 80%.  Tonight... starting out cloudy, becoming clear with very cold temps in the teens (19°) and NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... sunny and cold.  Temps in the 20s with W-NW blustery winds at 15-25mph +gusting making it feel like single digits.  Winter's not joking around anymore and is really getting serious here along the Coast.  Time to think about layering and pulling out those thermals not to mention what kind of soup to make.  It's Matzo ball soup here!  63 days until Spring!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Mornin'! Happy Martin Luther King Day!  It's 30° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under cloud cover with barely a breeze out of the N-NW at 3-5mph.  It's dry with no moisture out there except for the heaviness in the air.  It feels like something's coming. It's still dark but you can't see a star in the sky.  Expect a mostly cloudy day with snow flurries and snow showers off and on this morning and again this afternoon.  Temps will only get as high as 33° with very light breezes.  Chance of snow is 60% with accumulation less than an inch.  Tonight... 70% chance of snow with temps where they are now... 30° and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Another inch of snow is expected.  Tomorrow... temps are rising as all this cold, snowy weather will turn to rain as temps will be in the mid-40s and North winds at 15-25mph.  Chance of rain tomorrow is 40%.  By tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 20s and NW winds at 15-20mph.  Wednesday... sunny, high of 32° and West winds at 10-20mph.  Friday... more snow is on the weather menu.  I'll keep a close watch.

Blustery Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  Today's sunset is 5PM!!! Winds are out of the S-SW at 15-20mph making it feel like 30° instead of 37°.  It'll be a blustery Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds as temps climb into the upper 40s.  W-SW winds are checked in today and will be ramping up and blowing at 25-35mph +gusting over 40mph.  There's a "Gale Warning" (40mph+) posted until 10PM.  Tonight... clouds are checking in and sticking around but the winds will diminish late tonight.  It'll be cold as temps are going to drop down into the mid-20s.  NW winds will be 20-30mph and decrease to 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... gray and overcast,  with temps in the low-mid 30s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... Heather (the next storm) is due in with 60% chance of snow showers continuing into the overnight and by Tuesday morning, it should have turned to rain all depending on the temperatures.  It could be perfect conditions for snowfall in the early part of the day but overall Tuesday looks like it'll be in the mid-40s.  It all remains to be seen.  This storm is bringing heavy snow and strong winds from the Northwest, parts of the South as we'll see it Monday night into Tuesday morning.  She may bust some snow-less streaks in the Northeast as we could miss the bullet again (hopefully) and just get rain. Today is 2 years that we said goodbye to our Freddy.  Just thought I'd mention that.  It's amazing how secured in our hearts he is.  He always will be.  Always.

Advisories Posted

Mornin'!  It's 50° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got a lot going on this morning.  First off... misty, foggy conditions with Ms Sun trying her best to shine through the haze.  Winds are wailing out of the South at 20-25mph +gusting.  And, there are two Advisories posted... a "Wind" advisory until 5pm and a "Coastal Flood" advisory until 2pm.  The winds have been ferociously whipping since last night as torrential rains poured down.  At the moment... outside is drying out.  We had minor flooding in my neighborhood and the winds once again created not much in the line of damage.  I'm very grateful we missed Gerri's intensity.
For today... expect this patchy fog and mist off to end soon.  It'll start to become partly sunny, then gradually become sunny today.  Temps will rise to the mid-50s as winds out of the West will provide a very blustery day at 15-25mph. + gusting as high as 45mph.  That's going to sting on the Plungers bare skin this afternoon. Tonight... mostly clear, temps dropping into the mid-30s with West winds at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow... sunny until mid-day then becoming cloudy as there's a slight chance of snow showers or squalls.  The clouds are supposed to clear out by late afternoon as Ms Sun will shine just in time for the sunset. Temps will be in the upper 40s with SW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.   For M.L.King day... Monday will be mostly cloudy with some peeks of sunshine, temps in the mid-30s and calmer winds out of the NW at 5-10mph. Monday night... another storm that's been brewing knows as "Heather" heading our way and we could see her hitting the coast then.  Details are still uncertain about the track of this system and how much moisture it will produce.  At this time, it's looking like a snow system due to the much colder temps it has. As for today... as I mentioned the other day... the beach looks like a lake.  If you're heading to the Special Olympics Polar Plunge to plunge or as a spectator... traversing the huge beach at Montgomery Avenue at 1pm will be quite the challenge.  Whatever you have for footwear will be soaked so you might want to wear those Wellies if heading to the beach today to watch.  Good luck and thank you Plungers for this always successful annual fundraiser.

TGIF - 2 Months the Sun will set at 7:00PM

Someone's Drone Shot - 2nd and JFK (North WW)
Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  Blog's on the late side as grocery shopping took priority this early morn.  Groceries are bought, hauled and put away!  It's bright and sunny here on the island this morning.  And, wouldn't you know, I forgot my sunglasses as the sun wasn't up when I left.  For today's weather... expect a sunny morning becoming partly sunny, then becoming cloudy by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the upper 40s with East winds beginning to ramp up at 10-20mph.  Tonight... the next winter storm "Gerri" will be checking in as the winds really steal the show out of the S-SE at 25-35mph + gusting up to 50mph.  It'll be raining hard tonight with thunderstorms thrown in the mix.  Need I remind you of the possibility of tidal flooding and beach erosion especially after last weekend's storm eroding the island.  Know your low-lying areas. It appears that we now have some new low-lying areas like 2nd and JFK Avenues.  Temps will be in the upper 40s.  It'll be raining with very strong winds all throughout the night.  Tomorrow... the tail end of Gerri will be blowing on out of here by mid-morning.  It'll be partly cloudy with those remaining gusty winds out of the W-SW at 20-30mph +gusting along with temps in the low 50s feeling more like the mid-40s for those plunging into the ocean.  Sounds like it'll be brutal dip if you ask me.  Have someone very nearby with a fluffy robe and footwear (slippers, boots, socks etc) at the ready for your wind, whipped, wet body.  Say that 5 times real fast!  The Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge by the way is in Wildwood on the beach at the Convention Center (Montgomery Avenue) at 1:00PM.  Oh, I checked out the area yesterday on my walk and the beach is not only saturated, but has huge pond-size puddles which everyone will have to traverse.  I'd be wearing my Wellies for sure if you intend to hang on the beach and watch these brave plungers.

Nice Winter's Day

Mornin'!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's just coming over the ocean's horizon.  It's clear with winds out of the W-SW at 4-8mph.  Another calm before the storm kind of morning.  It'll be a lovely winter's day with plentiful sunshine, temps in the mid-upper 40s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... clear, starlit skies, temps where they are now... 37° and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... a mix of clouds and sun in the morning followed by a mostly cloudy day with temps in the upper 40s and Easterly winds at 10-20mph.  Rain is on the weather menu for tomorrow night into Saturday morning with temps in the 50s.  Saturday... partly to mostly sunny with temps in the low-mid 50s and very windy with winds out of the W-SW at 20-25mph.  Sunday... mostly sunny, temps in the mid-40s and still blustery with W-SW winds at 20-25mph.  Monday... cloudy with periods of light rain and possibly snow later in the day, temps in the mid-30s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  I'm beginning to think "Gerri" (our next storm) isn't what its cracked up to be but remains to be seen.  For today... a perfect winter's day down the Shore.

Finn Has Come And Gone

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  Winter storm Finn has come and (almost) gone.  The very tail end of it has light rain coming down on this cloudy start to the day.  Winds are still a bit stiff out of the W-SW at 20-25mph making it feel like 38°.  We received a big blast of Finn last night and the overnight with 70mph gusts of wind and rains that flooded those low-lying areas on the island.  My backyard is a low-lying area and is still under water and I have yet to see any wind damage. Expect a cloudy and windy hump day with rain continuing this morning, becoming sunny sometime later this afternoon as Finn does its final bow.  Today's temps will be in the mid-upper 40s with W-SW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tonight... mostly clear, temps in the upper 30s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... New Moon Thursday will be sunny, temps near 50° and W-SW breezes at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, 42° and West winds at 5-10mph.  As for Friday... the weather folk are announcing Winter Storm Gerri which is on its way over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California as I type.  It looks like it's going to check in here along the I95 corridor from Boston to Washington DC including the Northeast sometime Friday evening and continuing into the overnight.  For now, they're saying strong winds and heavy rainfall.  If the temperatures drop down enough, we could see a wintry mix (possibly some snowfall). Flooding on already saturated ground (this island's saturated most of the time) is a major concern.  Lest not forget another round of those strong winds will be accompanying Gerri.  Saturday (which is Wildwood's Polar Plunge) looks like it'll be partly sunny, temps around 50° with W-SW winds at 20-25mph.  Sunday... sunny, temps around 40° and winds out of the West at 20-22mph.

Red Sky In The Morning...

Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under red cloud cover with stiff winds out of the E-SE at 20-25mph.  "Red sky in the  morning, sailors take warning" is how it goes.  There's an Active Storm Warning posted as I type.  This Nor'easter that's been traveling up the east side of the Country is about to hit our shores from 3PM this afternoon until 6AM tomorrow  morning.  This Warning includes... a major Storm, high winds, likelihood of flooding due to the rain but more importantly the push that the winds will have on our surrounding waters.  The New Moon is Thursday and will have an effect of those high tides.  With all that said, here's the weather...
Expect rain and wind today with temps in the mid-50s and SE winds at 25-40mph +gusting up to 50mph.  Chance of rain is 100% with about a half an inch expected.   Tonight... wind and rain, with cloudy conditions on the overnight, potential flooding, temps in the mid-40s and South winds at 35-50mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy, 25% chance of rain, gusty winds out of the W-SW at 25-35mph +gusting and temps in the upper 40s.  Some preparedness is needed for this one... get the wellies out, charge phones, and chargers, hunker down and secure your property (trashcans, gates, decorations etc), don't park in the low-lying areas, don't drive through flood waters, note the high tide times.  Remember that the ocean high tide is one hour before the marsh/bay high tide time.  You know the drill by now, I'm sure.  Stay safe.

Monday Monday

Mornin'!  I'm back!  It feels good to be back in the salt air!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's shining brightly.  Winds are out of the NW at 8-10mph.  It's the calm before the storm.  We're going to have a  lovely day with sunshine, temps in the mid-40s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... a few passing clouds, temps in the upper 30s with SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... showers in the morning becoming a steady rain by the afternoon.  It'll be windy and raw with winds out of the E-SE at 25-35mph.  Temps (thankfully) won't be low and cold enough for snow as they'll be in the low-mid 50s.  Chance of rain is 100%.  Rainfall will be near a half inch to an inch.  Winds could occasionally gust over 50mph.  Also, we're very close to the New Moon (Thursday the 11th) and I don't have to tell you how extreme the tides are during New Moons and Full Moons when you add heavy rains and winds. These winds that are coming will have their way with our Coast no doubt.  Strap in.  And, count our blessings this isn't snow!   Wednesday... a few clouds and breaks of sunshine, temps in the upper 40s and W-SW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  By Wednesday night... it'll be mostly clear and much calmer with temps in the upper 30s.  Thankful for not having to shovel yet (even though the shovels and scrapers are out of storage) but more importantly... I got 2 beautiful ham hocks ready for some homemade bean soup.  Oh... I had a wonderful babysitting weekend in Bucks County with my two crazy, fun grand kids.  Lots and lots of blessings not to mention laughter.

First Hump Day 2024 - Perihelion Day

Mornin'!  It's 35° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 27° with the W-NW breeze at 5-10mph.  It's clear and starlit with the sky beginning to brighten as Ms Sun's waiting to rise over the horizon in less an hour. Today is Perihelion day and is the day that our planet is closest to the Sun. It usually happens 2 weeks after the Winter Solstice.  It'll be a mainly sunny start to the day with a few clouds filtering in later this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 30s with light and variable winds.  Tomorrow... a mix of clouds (early)and sun but sunshine is on tap in the afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with windy conditions 15-25mph out of the N-NW.  Friday... except for a few afternoon clouds, a mainly sunny day, with colder temps in the upper 30s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Saturday... cloudy with periods of rain beginning in the early afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s as stiff Easterly winds at 15-25mph +gusting will begin shaking us up a bit. This is the edge of a Nor'easter coming up the I95 corridor over the weekend.  It's time to hunker down.
Unlike Philly which could possibly get its first snowstorm in 2 years (1-3" of snow) Saturday into Sunday, our temps along the coast (mid-40s) will provide only rain. We're going to have rain Saturday into the overnight with the rainy-windy storm pretty much out of here by early morning Sunday.  It'll remain mostly cloudy Sunday with temps in the low-40s.  Monday... back to a sunny day with temps in the mid-40s.  I'm off the Blog until Monday. Time for some babysitting (kid-sitting now as my grandkids are 10 and 5 now) for a nice long stormy weekend with them.  Be careful out there if possibly dealing with this northeast weekend storm.  Oh and just a reminder... if you haven't shut off those outside water lines (garden hose, outdoor shower, garden ponds etc) here on the island, you might want to get those drained and turned off for the winter asap. Nothing worse than frozen, cracked water pipes and water lines. If you need a weather report while I'm doing this little hiatus... wunderground.com or weather.gov (with our zip code: 08260) and of course all that stuff under my Personal Favs.  That'll give you all you need.  See ya Monday!

Let's Do This

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's on her way and she's got mostly clear skies up ahead. There are those morning "horizon" clouds she must rise above first.  Winds are out of the N-NW at 8-12mph making it feel like 25°.  It feels cold and crisp for sure this early morn.  Expect plenty of sunshine today with temps in the low-mid 40s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear to partly clear (some clouds in the mix) with temps back into the low-30s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... intervals of clouds and sunshine.  Temps in the mid-40s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Thursday... mostly cloudy temps around 45° and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Friday... sunny and cold with temps in the upper 30s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Saturday... rainy and windy with temps in the mid-upper 40s with E-SE winds at 15-25mph.  Sunday... rain in the AM with partly cloudy day and temps in the low-mid 40s and blustery with NW winds at 20-30mph.  The New Moon is January 11th and the Full Moon is January 25th.  Both moons are much higher than normal tides.  Just an fyi.  And, I almost forgot... the South Philly String Band won the #1 spot for 2024 Mummer's Parage! The Captain winner was Kade Radcliff of the Uptown String Band! Congrats to them!

2024 Is Here! Happy New Year!

Mornin'!  Happy New Year!  Welcome 2024!  I made it for the "ball drop" at midnight and it was very quiet here in my neighborhood.  It's nothing like the big City on New Years Eve at midnight.
It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  There's barely a breeze out of the SW at 1-2mph.  It's cloudy much like  yesterday with an opening along the horizon just enough for Ms Sun to peek in at us.  We may have some rain today.  There's been no mention of it until now and after a mostly cloudy morning, there's a 50% chance of rain this afternoon.  Temps will be in the upper 40s with N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 60% chance of rain, becoming cloudy afterward, cold with temps in the low-30s and North winds making it feel even colder at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the mid-40s and blustery with winds out of the N-NW at 10-20mph.  As for Philly it looks almost like our weather only with a cloudy day on tap, 30% chance of showers possible but later this afternoon, temps around 45° and N-NE winds at 5-10mph.  I checked the internet and it looks like The Mummers Parade is still on with no mention of any cancellations due to weather.  There's nothing like a good Mummers Parade (been to many of them). The costumes, colors, music and energy can't be compared. I'm sure you can "stream" it from anywhere in the country too!  May 2024 be kind to us and bring us only good health and happiness! Happy New Year everyone!

Oh, I forgot to mention that it's tradition to have pork on New Year's Day and the pork is getting cooked here today!  Pork and Sauerkraut to be exact! Superstition has it that because a pig roots forward, eating pork on NY Day helps us to move ahead.  I'm not superstitious just love pork.
