Orlena's On Her Way

Mornin'!  It's 30° in Wildwood NJ this last day of January.   Not much in windchill at the moment as the breezes are out of the E-NE at 3-5mph but there's the feel of icy moisture in the air.  Almost like it's going to snow at any minute. We're under cloud cover with the horizon lightening up just a bit.  Any clearing in the sky won't be lasting long as this cloud cover is staying checked in for a quite a long time (until at least Thursday).  There's a Winter Storm Warning posted as Nor'easter Orlena is on our doorstep bringing some nasty weather to the Northeast including our coast for the next couple days.  Expect a cloudy day with rain and snow beginning this morning as it becomes all snow by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-30s with East winds at 15-25mph.  Our forecasts report 1-3 inches here on the island unlike Philly which may get from 8-12 inches.  Tonight... cloudy and windy with rain developing and temps in the mid-30s.  E-NE winds will be ramping up at 25-35mph +gusting.  Rainfall will be near an inch and no doubt will wash any snow away.  Tomorrow... more winds and rainfall but a bit warmer with temps in the low-mid 40s.  N-NE winds will still be intense at 25-35mph sustained with gusting of up to 50mph.  The rains will continue into Tuesday and may very well turn back to snow as the temps drop back into the low-mid 30s.  Get the soup pot out and strap in!  Oh, and prepare for island flooding there's no doubt the island will be taking on water especially in low-lying areas.  Watch where you park or drive your vehicle.  Always know your areas.  A couple areas that are high ground are around the City Hall streets in Wildwood and around 14th and Surf Avenues in North Wildwood.  I'm not sure where the highest elevation is in Wildwood Crest but I'd chose closer to the ocean side of the island instead of the bay side.  Hunker down, stay safe and be careful out there!  Until next year January... see you on the other side!

Last Weekend in January and A Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  There's a very light breeze from the N-NW at 4-8mph giving us a windchill of 12°.  It's partly cloudy with that ol' Moon still trying to shine brightly along with the stars in the pre-dawn sky.  Ms Sun's working her way over the horizon with about a half hour to go for rise and shine.  It'll be mostly sunny today with temps in the low-mid 30s and NW winds at 9-14mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy skies becoming overcast overnight.  Temps will be in the mid-20s with light and variable breezes.  Sounds lovely.  Tomorrow... we're prepping for a winter Nor'easter called "Orlena" as a "storm watch" has been posted.  Expect clouds and East winds at 15-25mph bringing with it 1-3" of snow!  I'm having visions of "Jonas" with some serious rainfall coming after those 3" of snowfall.  By tomorrow night... heavy rains and major winds after a day of snowfall... eh...not good, just saying.  Be mindful of those high tides and where you drive or park your vehicle.  Jim, I'm thinking we're going to actually get some snow in January!  The Jersey coast hasn't had any snow in January since Jan 13, 2019.

Gale Warnings Posted

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  With the winchill it's 11°.  The tumultuous winds are out of the NE at 25-35mph +gusting.  The full moon is glowing in the pre-dawn darkness.  It's partly cloudy and would be perfect for a wolf howling in the bright eerie darkness.  The sun is on her way in about a half an hour but the horizon clouds are pretty thick and may delay her bright morning sunshine due at 7:08am.  It'll be a partly sunny day with these fast moving clouds staying checked in.  It'll be in the low-30s with a windchill of 15° thanks to the NW winds at 25-30mph.  Winds could gust over 40mph.  Tonight... cold with a high of 21°, a little calmer with N-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting and moonlit skies.  Tomorrow... sunny, high of 34° and NW winds still hanging around at 10-20mph.  Sunday... cloudy with snow showers on tap by mid-day.  It's still looking like 1-3 inches of the white stuff.  Remains to be seen.

January 28th's Full (Wolf) Moon

Mornin'!  It's 31° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy and windy with N-NW winds currently at 19-23mph.  It'll be  blustery day with winds howling out of the N-NW at 20-30mph +gusting over 40mph.  The howling Wolf Full Moon is in today's forecast too.  January's full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more often heard this time of year.  It was believed that wolves howled due to hunger in the winter, but they howled to define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds and coordinate hunting.  Our little Chihuahua howled a few times in his short life and it was hysterically funny.  One of those times we'll never forget.
As for today's weather, expect these morning clouds to clear out as it'll be mostly sunny.  Sunshine or not, those N-NW winds will be howling over the island at 20-30mph +gusting creating a windchill temp in the low-mid 20s. Tonight... clear and still with gusty winds (NW 20-30mph +gusting) with temps in the low 20s (feeling like 12°)! Tomorrow... another very windy day with gusting, a few clouds from time to time and a high of 31° (feeling like the teens).  Saturday... sunny and not as windy.  Sunday... wet as this potential winter storm checks in along the Coast.  It's looking like we could get over an inch of the white stuff.  One thing's for sure, Sunday will be wet, windy, cold and a day to be inside with a good book and mug of tasty soup.  As for the loss of our Freddy, it's been getting better with each passing day but yesterday not so much.  It's the quiet around here that's the toughest.

Humpday Mix of Sun and Clouds

Mornin'!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under partial cloud cover (most of the clouds are on the bay/marsh side) with Ms Sun on her way any moment now.  However, it appears it'll be blocked as she rises as there seems to be a haze along the horizon this morning.  Breezes are somewhat light out of the W-NW at 10-12mph.  That'll change today as NW winds are going to ramp up at 10-20mph +gusting.  Expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 41°.  Tonight... partly cloudy with cloud cover overnight.  Temps are going to drop into the mid-upper 20s with Northerly winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... the winds are really going to kick up out of the N-NW at 20-30mph +gusting (over 40mph) with cloudy conditions.  At this time, the weekend's looking cold and wintry with Saturday having a high of 30° but with sunny skies and Sunday... not so much as a Winter Storm is heading in this direction as we actually could get up to 3" of the white stuff.  There, I've said it! We could actually get some snow this month!  Oh, and don't forget... the Full Moon is tomorrow and the tides will be much higher than normal.

Gray and Wet Tuesday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under thick cloud cover with no rain or white stuff coming down.  Everything seems wet though as it must have rained overnight.  Winds are very light out of the East at 4-6mph.  There's a 70% chance of rain showers this morning with a steady, light rain due in for later this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with East winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... a slight chance of rain (20% chance), turning to cloudy skies then partly cloudy skies late into midnight with areas of patchy fog as well.  Low in the mid-upper 30s and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... Ms Sun returns with a high of 44° and NW winds at 10-15mph.

The loss of Freddy is becoming slightly easier with each passing day.  It's now been 12 days of a quiet house and at times the silence becomes almost unbearable.  But, for the most part, the good memories keep us laughing and talking about all those good times we had with him.  He was incredibly special and I'm not sure if I'll ever stop missing him.

Ain't No Sunshine When He's Gone

Mornin'!  It's 33° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got some heavy cloud cover and barely a breeze outside.  There's a N-NE breeze at 2-4mph if you want to call it that.  It's quiet and dark with no sounds of the surf this morning as these thick clouds insulate the island.  No sunshine today.  It'll be a gray, calm day with overcast skies, high of 39° and light and variable breezes.  Tonight... around 7-8pm, expect some rain/snow showers transitioning into rainfall.  Temps will drop to where they are now... low-30s with East winds at 10-15mph.  Chance of precipitation is 70%.  Tomorrow... showers turning into a steady light rain later in the day with a high of 47° and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Chance of rain is 70%.  By dinner time tomorrow... the rain clouds will turn into just cloudiness and this so-called storm will be checking out.  Wednesday will be partly sunny with temps in the mid-40s.  Yesterday was the first day that hubby and I went out and took a long drive without Freddy knowing the entire couple hours that there was no rush or reason to have to get home.  Bittersweet.  Today's photos are dedicated to Fred's resting/sleeping/dozing times.
