A Nice Stretch Of Weather Ahead

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 82% with a dewpoint of 61°.  Ms Sun's up with only light, wispy clouds to glimmer through.  We've also got light breezes out of the N-NE at 4-6mph.  It's a beauty out there.  There's a nice stretch of weather ahead (looks like 4 straight days).  We're going to have a mix of sun and light clouds today with temps just about tapping 80° and N-NE winds shifting to the S-SE at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear skies with some light cloud cover here and there, temps in the upper 60s and W-SW winds at 5-10mph  Tomorrow... sunny, temps around 80° and E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 70° with light breezes.  Sunday... mostly sunny, some light clouds in the mix, temps around 80° with East winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-70s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Monday... partly to mostly cloudy with 50% chance of rain by evening.

Here are those ol' Friday Beach Tips...
*Beach Stuff - what to pack... bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent (for the "West winds" that bring biting green head flies), first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings), shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes, a small trash bag to collect any trash you accumulate.
*When setting up your spot (campsite) at the beach, give those around you a little courtesy and be kind as to not to set up too close to them.  It's always amazing to watch arriving folk completely unaware of their actions as they begin setting up their umbrella, blanket and chair only inches away from those folks already settled in and believe it or not, there's no one else yet at the beach except you. It often feels like new arrivals seek out others to sit close to.  It happens more often than not and I have yet to figure out this strange phenomenon. Most beaches are huge (with the exception of North Wildwood).  First Avenue beach has become more popular this year as that beach grows while the JFK Blvd beach shrinks.
*Know your "tide" times.  You can always ask the lifeguard as they will know.  If the tide is at its highest when you arrive, you can set up right at the water line and watch the beach grow bigger and bigger as the tide slips into its 6 hour low tide. It takes 6 hours for the tide to go from High to Low and then turn around and begin to go from Low to High (12 hour total).
*Tips for setting up your umbrella: be aware of the wind direction and wind speed.  On a windy day, take those extra steps to secure your umbrella.  Sand screws or sand grabbers are great for securing umbrellas and it's best to dig a hole first before twisting that screw in and packing the sand in.  Also, a bungee cord attaching the umbrella to your cooler or beach cart works wonders. It's not uncommon to see umbrellas launched by the winds and more often than not into unknowing folks who are about to be impaled by an airborne, out of control umbrella. And, while the entire family is in the ocean not realizing that their umbrella is 2 blocks away. I've seen it happen many times.  Oh... when opening your umbrella... always face the wind as this phenomenon never disappoints as most of the time, folks turn their back on the wind and open the umbrella. Thus... you now have an inside out, uncontrolled umbrella on your hands.
*Beach Etiquette.  When you walk directly next to someone who's laying on their blanket or sitting on their beach chair, your kicked up sand will almost certainly be tossed all over them; especially if it's breezy.  Be conscientious of what you're doing and where you're walking. Teach your children courtesy at the beach. Explain that it's not okay to run or chase one another around someone else's blanket or chair.  Wildwood sand is very light and powdery.  On a breezy day, one can be covered in a light coating of sand thanks to careless folk around you.
*If shaking out towels or blankets, be conscious of the wind direction and always shake away from those in the line of your "sand" fire. I've seen toddlers who take off running usually onto anyone's blanket in their path.  Here's a bit of advice for parents of toddlers on the beach (1-2 year olds)... bring a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will be much more enjoyable with those babes surrounded with toys and snacks in their little mesh, private encampment.  I recently saw a young couple of a baby not old enough to walk, dig a round trench about 6" deep and place a piece of plastic (much like a shower curtain) over the 2-3' wide hole and fill it with the ocean water so the babe could be entertained and cooled off in their own little pool.  It was an ingenious way to keep the baby happy for a long period of time.
*Phone use... take it somewhere else. Talking loudly or working on your phone for all of us to enjoy really sucks.  Phone calls should be taken as far away from all the hordes of people as possible.  Go to the Dunes.  Trust me, no one wants to hear your conversation; especially on "speaker".
*There is "no smoking" of any type on the beach.  Wildwood Crest has a designated smoking area by the dunes.  There's "no smoking" on the boardwalk.  New Jersey has legalized Marijuana and you can smoke it privately on your property but you can't do it in public.  There are no Pot dispensaries in Wildwood.
*For the pooches, there are two dog parks right on the beach.  At 24th and the Beach in North Wildwood and one in Wildwood between Glenwood and Maple on the Beach.  Dogs must always be on a leash when not in the dog parks. And, you can walk your dog on the beach when lifeguards are NOT at their posts and only then.  No dog walking on the boardwalk at all.
*If you enjoy music on the beach... remember to pack your headphones.  Believe it or not, the majority of beach folk would much rather listen to the sounds of the surf; not your choice of music blasting next to them from your Bluetooth speakers.  Sorry... but it's something that happens a lot and it sucks.
*Feeding seagulls is a no-no.  Eat and snack smartly.  Using flailing hands when expressing oneself while holding lunch is a magnet for swooping gulls.  Drop just one potato chip and you'll have seagull havoc.  Eat conscientiously under your umbrella or chair canopy.  Seagulls are vultures and are smart and endlessly eyeing beach goers eating habits.  They're relentless in trying to find the opportune moment to swoop down and pluck lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if you have an unsupervised beach bag with chip bags exposed, they'll think nothing of helping themselves to that bag and will share their newly acquired bag of Lays Chips with all their gulls family and friends while you're in the ocean without a care in the world.
*Playing ball, Frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, kite-flying, ladder toss, spike ball, paddle ball, volley ball, Kan-jam, beach darts etc. shouldn't be played where beach-goers are camped.  Play ball and games away from where no one is sitting (it's only common sense and respectful).
*Observe all posted signs and warnings... Beach closures due to weather, rip currents or storms, surfing only on "surfing" beaches, no alcohol or pot, no dogs or pets.  If in doubt, just ask the lifeguards.
*Never leave trash on the beach.  Better yet, pick up any that you may see whether it's yours or not.  There are many, many trash and recycle containers on the beach and surrounding areas.  You might as well use them rather than let all that trash drift off and fly into the ocean for the fish to eat or get tangled in. Remember... whatever the fish eat, we eat too.  Plastic is an epidemic.  Speaking of plastic... New Jersey no longer has plastic bags at stores and shops.  It's now all about bringing your reusable bags when you shop to save the planet from those "fly-away" plastic ones.
*Lastly, be courteous and respectful.  Courtesy is key.  Be kind and considerate of all those enjoying this beautiful moment at the beach along with you. Keep the profanity at home.  It's a lot of fun being at the beach.  Let's enjoy together. Happy Beaching!

Hazy, Hot and Humid Monday

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 96% with a dewpoint of 73°.  Winds are out of the S at 5-8mph and Ms Sun's up and shining through some leftover clouds right along the coast.  Things are brightening up as I type.  It'll be sunny, hot and humid today with temps in the mid-upper 80s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... hazy and warm, temps in the mid-70s and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the upper 80s (very possibly hitting the  90s), with winds out of the S-SW at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, upper 70s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Wednesday... mostly sunny, temps in the mid-upper 80s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Wednesday night... 70% chance of rain. If going to the beach as that sand will be a scorcher... don't forget footwear and sunblock and I'm thinking some insect repellent for any greenhead flies that could be flying to the beach on those South"West" winds.  Anything with "west" in the wind direction, always has the biting fly possibility.

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up! Humidity's 100% with a dewpoint of 76°.  There are no winds to note.  When I checked for "winds", all I got was "calm".  Everything is soaked and dripping wet outside.  I think it's the first time doing this blog that there was no rain in sight, humidity was 100% and Ms Sun was shining brightly along with not one breeze.  Whew!  Talk about an oppressive, heavy morning!  Expect a mix of sun and clouds today with 25% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm possible later this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 80s with winds entering the scene at 10-20mph out of the S-SW.  Tonight... a few passing clouds but mostly clear, temps in the low-mid 70s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... patchy fog in the morning, otherwise a sunny day with temps near 90° and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps in the mid-70s and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.

Wildwood's Weather Is Unsettled

Wildwood's Beach today - Jeep Invastion
Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 99% with a dewpoint of 71°.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 8-10mph.  It's raining lightly.  We've had rain heavy yesterday on and off and as well as throughout last night.  I could hear thunder a little while ago and it's just misty raining at the moment.  We're supposed to get scattered thunderstorms throughout this morning (80% chance) with a cloudy, unsettled weather day ahead.  Who knows, we could see peeks of sunshine sometime throughout the morning and afternoon?  We could see rain and/or thunderstorms throughout the day into the afternoon and evening (80% chance).  Locally heavy rainfall is possible.  Temps will be near 80° with South winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 30% chance of rain, patchy fog late, mostly cloudy with temps around 70° and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... areas of fog in the morning, otherwise a partly sunny day, temps near the mid-80s and West winds shifting to South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps in the mid-70s and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Monday... full sunshine returns with temps in the low-80s and light winds.  As far as I can tell, the Farmer's Market this morning has been cancelled, Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting is cancelled, the Jeep Invasion looks like it's happening as well as the Boardwalk craft show, and the BBQ-Blues Fest is happening this weekend in North Wildwood.  I'm not sure about the beach games and events scheduled for today... you may want to check the internet for updates.

Dense Fog Advisory Posted - All Webcam Shots From This Morning

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 98% with a dewpoint of 72°.  Breezes are barely there at 2-3mph out of the S-SE.  We're in the soup again.  The fog is laying heavy over the island once again.  We had fog yesterday and it got so dense that they closed the beaches.  Well, I should say, closed the ocean as the lifeguards couldn't see their hands in front of them let alone those dipping in the ocean and wouldn't allow anyone in the water.  Even with all that moisture in the air, it feels cooler with those low-lying clouds right on us.  We're going to see a lot of it today as it'll be partly sunny with those low-lying clouds in the mix, temps in the low-mid 80s and S-SE winds at 5-10 mph.  Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy with patchy fog, temps in the low-70s and South winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy with 20% chance of rain gusty winds developing in the afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with South winds at 20-25mph.  Tomorrow night... 40% chance of precipitation, partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-70s and South (gusty) winds at 15-25mph.  Thursday... 40% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms, partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-80s and SW winds at 10-15mph.  Thursday night... 50% chance of rain, temps in the low-70s and South winds at 10-15mph.

Week #2

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 92% with a dewpoint of 73°.  Breezes (barely there) are out of the East at 3-5mph.  We're in thick fog at the moment.  I just checked the boardwalk cams and it's as foggy as it gets.  It's not keeping anyone from being out and about as the cyclists, walkers, joggers and diners are kicking off their week with some foggy Wildwood this morning.  We're in it to win it now as that "pretty thick crowd" mode is more than likely here until the kids go back to school.  It's going to turn to a partly sunny day with temps in the mid-80s and East winds becoming SE at 5-10mph.  Tonight... patchy fog, partly cloudy, temps in the low-70s with Southerly breezes at 3-5mph.  Tomorrow... could be another foggy start with a slight chance of showers (20% chance),  partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-80s with South winds at 5-15mph.  Tomorrow night... 20% chance of passing rain showers, temps in the low-70s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... 30% chance of rain showers after 8am otherwise sunny with temps near 90° and Southerly winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday night... 30% chance of rain showers overnight into Thursday, temps in the low-70s and winds out of the South at 15-20mph

Happy Weekend!

Mornin'!  Happy July 4th Weekend!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 97% with a dewpoint of 72°.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Ms Sun's up and trying her best to break through the morning haze.  It's one of those mostly cloudy but bright, not quite sunny and very clammy and moist mornings.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with 25% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm later this afternoon.  Keep your eye on the sky kind of Saturday up ahead.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... cloudy with 40% chance of rain showers off and on.  And, the rain showers could continue overnight into Sunday morning. Temps will be in the low-70s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly to mostly cloudy, hot and humid with temps in the mid-80s and SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, humid, temps in the mid-70s with light and variable winds.  Monday... mostly cloudy, temps in the low-80s with SE winds at 5-10mph.  I forgot to mention yesterday that it was the New Moon.  The phases of the Moon (new moon/full moon/half moon) all have an effect on our tides.  New Moon and Full Moons increase the amount of tide waters (they're at their highest).  So, tides are higher than normal this weekend.  The best part is that the high tides times are around 8 in the morning and 8 tonight. When the beach is packed this afternoon, it'll be low tide and you'll have plenty of beach! I also forgot to post my "Friday Beach Tips" but I'd say it's all for naught this weekend.
I haven't mentioned how thick the island is with folk.  I always think I'm prepared but it's jarring as I tend to forget just how profound the change in my hometown can be.  It's as thick as it gets.   I don't want to call it "A Prisoner In My Home" because I'm enjoying the walks around the island, taking lovely outdoor showers, gardening, enjoy the sea air blowing all the curtains in my house, the good food that my hubby and I have prepared (today's dinner is homemade crab cakes, coleslaw and grilled potatoes) and of course a good book and some good baseball.. Go Phillies!  If you care to see how thick the island is... just click on one of those webcams "Webcams from various Wildwood Areas" under my Personal Favs gives you lots of options to check out and will tell you everything you need to know.  Unfortunately, it doesn't quite capture the noise from the party revelers (2-3am), the firecrackers any time of day, the loud revved up vehicles and motorcycles showing off their extremely loud mufflers surging throughout the neighborhoods anytime of day or night, the illegal parking (including in front of driveways and end of streets right into the intersections), the trash left everywhere, the loud music from homes, backyards and vehicles, the packed and loud neighborhood bars and bar bands, oh and the trash on my property or vomit in my driveway.  Our neighbors had 2 porta-johns delivered for their back lawn yesterday.  I often wonder how would all those visiting and vacationing and partying feel if someone came to their home/neighborhood and did the exact same thing to them.  As always, I got this.  59 days until Labor Day!

Auf Wiedersehen June!

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ. This is it June! You've been good to us this year as you go out with a bang.  It's been raining hard here in Wildwood this since early this morning as well as for the last few hours.  As my husband would say, "It's raining harder than a bull pissing on a flat rock".  At the moment, it' not raining at all and all those flood waters (we had some minor street flooding) have thankfully receded.  Plus, we're on our way to low tide which helps with street flooding.  Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 71°.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  Expect a mostly gray day with 90% chance of rain plus those thunderstorms on and off all throughout the day. They're going to be looming and surrounding and potentially giving us more of those real heavy downpours as well as that thunder and lightning.  Temps will be around 80° with S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... 80% chance of unsettled, wet, stormy weather.  We could see more thunderstorms and heavy rain with gusty winds as temps drop into the low-mid 60s.  Winds look to be initially out of the W-SW shifting from the N-NW all at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... July kicks off with a sunny day, temps around 80° and North winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 70° with N-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... sunny, temps around 75° and N-NE breezes.  Until next year, June... see ya on the other side!

*Playing ball, Frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, kite-flying, ladder toss, spike ball, paddle ball, volley ball, Kan-jam, beach darts etc. are not allowed to be set up and played where beach-goers are camped.  Play back by the dunes where no one is sitting.
*Observe all posted signs and warnings... Beach closures due to weather, rip currents or storms, surfing only beaches, no alcohol or pot, no dogs or pets.
It's now all about bringing your reusable bags to save the planet from those fly-away plastic ones.
*Lastly, be courteous.  Courtesy is key.  Be kind and considerate of all those enjoying this beautiful moment along with you. Keep the profanity at home.  It's a lot of fun being at the beach.  Let's enjoy together. Happy Beaching!
