Gray Hump Day This Last Day Of September!

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood.  It's still dark and cloudy.  It's breezy (SW winds at 15-20mph). We had a nice dose of rain last night and on the overnight.  It's not raining now and the winds are drying things up.  But, we're supposed to have rain showers throughout the day today and tonight.  In fact, the forecast looks like clouds and rain right up until Tuesday.  We now have Tropical Storm Joaquin in our sites expecting to strengthen into a hurricane today as it moves slowly toward the Bahamas. The storm may turn to the north Friday as a Category 2 hurricane, potentially aiming for the eastern seaboard early next week.  Today...50% chance of rain with temps in the mid-upper 70s.  Winds out of the W-SW at 14-18mph.
Tonight...more rain possible (60% chance) with breezes out of the N-NW at 15-25mph and temps down into the lo-mid 60s.  It seems like every forecast I've checked is saying rain, rain and more rain likely (could be 10+ inches) by this time next week.  I guess we'll all be hunkering down for awhile after taking inventory on the wellies, umbrellas, milk and bread as I keep a close eye on Joaquin (love that name).  Until next year...see ya September (my Favorite weather month)!

The Rains-Are-A-Coming!!

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood.  We're currently under clear starlit and moonlit skies.  The ocean's thunderous roar can be heard inside the house this morning!  No breezes to note at the moment.  It'll be a mild and somewhat humid day today with partly sunny/partly cloudy conditions and temps in the mid-upper 70s.  Breezes will be out of the SE at 13-15mph.  There's a 30% chance of a shower and/or thunderstorm later this afternoon.  Tonight...80% chance of rain with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the E-SE at 14-17mph.  Looks like Tropical Storm Joaquin has formed out in the Atlantic and has its sights on our coast for the weekend.  Let's put it this way...after today we may not see Ms Sun again until next Wednesday not to mention it could be "dig out the wellies" time!

Fair Monday

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood.  It's partly cloudy with a very light breeze as that ol' Super Moon shines down in the morning darkness.  Speaking of which, I saw an incredible eclipse of the moon last night! The roar of the ocean is loud and clear at the moment and that's six blocks away from my front porch.  The ocean's been pounding the coast pretty hard the last few days and with those higher tides (due to that moon) along with those relentless winds beach erosion's been occurring big time. Today looks like it'll be a decent day and start to the week with partly cloudy skies and temps in the mid-upper 70s.  Breezes will be out of the East at 11-14mph (you can finally put the hairspray away).  Tonight...clouds still checked in as there's a 20% chance of a shower and/or thunderstorm (not sure about seeing another fantastic moon rise tonight).  Temps will head back into the 60s as breezes remain light from the East at 12-14mph.  The neighborhood is still a bit thick as many of the weekend vacationers and Pope escapees haven't begun their trek home yet.  Some Philly roads and bridges are still closed.  It was quite a wild weekend as Wildwood reaped in the benefits of hundreds of thousands of folks enjoying the Festivals, parties and Pope-trons!

Mornin'  It's 67° in sunny Wildwood.  It's still breezy (E-NE 17-25mph)!  Looks like we're going to have a mostly sunny day.  Seems like ages since Ms Sun's dominated the skies.  There will be clouds in the mix and tonight...20% chance of rain.  There's a Coastal Flood advisory posted due to the high tides caused by today's Full (Super) Moon.  But, for the most part...a sunny Sunday with temps getting into the low 70s.  Breezes aren't going anywhere so get out the hairspray.

So, I'll wrap things up by talking about today's Full Moon....If skies are clear, we'll have a chance to glimpse a rare event in the night sky: A total Supermoon Lunal Eclipse. During this event, three things will occur at once. The moon will be both full and at its closest point to Earth – that’s known as a supermoon. And this will occur at the same time as a total lunar eclipse – that means the moon, sun and Earth will be aligned.  Because of its proximity to Earth, the moon will appear brighter and larger — 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than other full moons — in the sky. And it will appear a dark, coppery red, caused by the Earth blocking the sunlight that normally reflects off the moon. Sunday’s eclipse will start at 8:45 p.m. EST and end around 1:00 a.m EST, with the reddish phase lasting for about an hour from 10 to 11 p.m.  Keeping my fingers crossed the skies are clear for this one as the next one is scheduled for January 2018!

More Wild Weather

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood.  It's still cloudy and overcast.  It's still windy (E-NE 28-33mph and gusting to 37mph).  It's still chilly and sweater weather.  We may see peeks of sun today as the clouds have no intention of going anywhere.  The blustery winds are sticking around too.  Temps will be in the upper 60s/low 70s all day and tonight...low 60s.   No rain in the forecast for today.  Although tomorrow evening may bring some showers.  Looks like a repeat of yesterday...gray, cool,  and windy.  All forecasts point to this exact same weather repeating again tomorrow.  Hopefully Ms Sun checks in from time to time to warm the island up a bit.  We're currently swollen and packed with guests and visitors as the Philadelphia folk have invaded our shores evading Pope Francis!  Enjoy as the island's Festivals (Irish Fall Fest, Classic Car Fest and Seafarers Fest) are smiling with welcoming grins and open arms! Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood.  It's still a bit dark but the sky is clear and starlit.  Ms Sun's on her way as the horizon is brightening as I blog.  It'll be partly sunny / partly cloudy today with temps in the low-mid 70s and breezes out of the E-NE at 20-28mph (another bad hair day). Tonight...more of the same with temps in the mid 60s and breezes remaining ramped up out of the East at 20-25mph.

I took a walk on the boardwalk last night and the motels and condos are packed with visitors and weekend vacationers.  It's classic car weekend and those beautiful classic pristine conditioned cars and hot rods are everywhere showing off and loudly displaying their roaring engines.  I thought I was in the movie "American Graffiti" at one point!  Love 'em.  At the South end of the island in Wildwood Crest it's Seafarers Celebration Weekend with a 2-day Street Fest with live music, good eats, fireworks and family fun.  On the other end (North Wildwood) of the isle the Irish Fall Festival begins it's 4day - 24th annual Irish fest beginning this afternoon on Old New Jersey Avenue. Lovely Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood.  That's not a typo!  It's a tad brisk this morning on the island.  We've got clear, starlit skies and breezes still wifting (I mean wafting) over us.  Ms Sun's due up today as it'll be mostly sunny with temps back up into the low-mid 70s.  Breezes are still the stars on the bill coming off the ocean (NE at 18-21mph).  Tonight...some cloud cover with temps in the low-mid 60s and stiff breezes (E-NE at 21-27mph).  Now, a couple things: for one...the Full Moon is this weekend and the tides are already higher than usual so be aware of water in the streets, and two...this stupid weekend forecast is changing up again and we're looking at rain again.  I've been watching all the forecasts for this weekend very closely and like I originally saw on a couple of them earlier this week..."rain" for this weekend.  Now...they're all saying it.  And, we're talking Saturday (later in the day), Sunday and Monday with 40-50% chance of rain.  The winds will add to the weekend weather drama with E-NE (off the ocean) at 20-30mph.  Full Moon + Rains + Winds = flooding + beach erosion. You've been warned!  So, pack your "green" wellies for the Irish Festival and whatever you do don't drive that beautiful Classic Car through flood waters!  I'll continue to give updates on this last fanfare festival weekend weather for Wildwood.

Happy Autumn and Happy Birthday to our daughter Alison! This one's for you!

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood.  Happy Birthday Alison!  Happy Autumn (hard to believe I'm typing that)! It's feeling like autumn this week.  We're doing the Autumn Equinox today...same amount of daylight hours and night time hours...12 hours each.   It's still breezy and cool outside.  The winds and clouds are persistent this week and we're still overcast with lots of cloudy skies and breezes surrounding the island.  Everyone's saying Ms Sun's on her way today so, I'm going with that...mostly sunny with temps in the low-mid 70s.  The breezes remain out of the NE at 19-25mph today so more bad hair day on tap.  Tonight...low 60s and breezes still consistently kickin' butt at 18-23mph out of the N-NE.  The weekend's looking 'eh' as it had been looking like mostly rain but now the rain seems to be holding off until later on Sunday. It'll be a mostly cloudy weekend though. I didn't want to say what I was seeing in all the forecasts up until now for the upcoming weekend as all forecasts pointed to a rainy one for Irish Weekend / Classic Car Weekend. Since this is the last big fling for the island, I was gritting my teeth knowing it could be a washout but thankfully not so much now. The word here is that the Pope's Philadelphia visit is prompting the Philly folks and surrounding area who want to shun the Papal intensity to head to the coast. We just might see the island swollen with visitors like never before.  Remains to be seen.  At least the weekend weather won't be a washout.  Today...looking like a lovely day once these clouds finally decide to check out.

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood this last day of Summer!  Summer will be bowing out with mostly cloudy, overcast, windy conditions and relatively cool temps...low 70s.  It'll be much like yesterday with mostly cloud cover (10% chance of a shower) and winds throughout the day out of the NE at 23-26mph.  We could see peeks of sun too (Ms Sun never appeared yesterday).  Tonight...cloudy with temps back into the 60s and those winds still ramped up out of the NE at 18-20mph.  I guess more sweater weather is on the menu not to mention...another bad hair day!

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood.  It's overcast and very breezy (E-NE 20-23mph) this early morn.  You can hear the sounds of the surf crashing 6 blocks away thanks to the thick cloud cover.  It'll be a cloudy one today or at least mostly cloudy with peeks of sun.  No sunrise yet and by the looks of things out there, not sure if we'll see a sunrise today.  There's a 20% chance of a shower today as well as tonight.  Temps will be in the low 70s with those E-NE breezes kicking up most of the day and night.  Tonight's temps...back into the mid-upper 60s.  Looking like "sweater weather" as this will probably repeat tomorrow.

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood.  Current conditions: it's mostly sunny (Ms Sun's up and shining through the morning haze and pockets of fog).   It's quiet...just seagulls screeching (I like to think of it as laughing) all over the neighborhood.  No breezes to note but that'll change.  Today's forecast will be mostly sunny (some clouds in the mix) with temps in the upper 70s/low 80s.  Breezes are going to pick up and wift (I mean waft) over us later this morning into this afternoon from the N-NE at 18-21mph.  Tonight...clear with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the NE at 16-22mph.  Tomorrow... a tad cloudier and cooler.

Saturday Beauty

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood.  Welcome Firefighters!  They're everywhere this weekend.  The Firefighter Parade begins at 2pm on New Jersey Avenue (at Cresse Ave.).  But lets not forget it's the Zombie Mud Run today and Morey's Beach Jam (hundreds of tents fill the beach overnight) and Morey's "Wild Fly In" (an aviation spectacular) on the beach at Spencer Avenue and "Boots on the Beach" a new Festival in North Wildwood for all those looking to don their Schitt Kickers...it's all along Old New Jersey Avenue in the Bar District.

Blog's a bit late this "sleep in" Saturday but here it is...
It's sunny and warm with a bit of clouds and humidity thrown in the mix today.  Temps are heading into the low-mid 80s as breezes are out of the S-SE at 5-10mph. Tonight...mild and warmish with upper 60s/low 70s temps and breezes out of the SE at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow...much of the same but breezier.

Mornin'!  It's once again (three mornings in a row) 65° in Wildwood.  It's dark and still with so many stars filling the early morning sky it's breathtaking.  There's not a cloud up there!  It'll be another pleasant day down the shore as Ms Sun will be rising in just over an hour from now.  Temps will rise into the upper 70s/low 80s.  Breezes will be light and variable out of the S-SE at 7-9mph.  Tonight...upper 60s/low 70s with clear skies and breezes out of the South at 9-11mph.  Looks like a lovely weekend ahead albeit breezy on Sunday.  Rains and winds are due in Monday so enjoy some more of the Jewel while it sparkles for the next few days!

Hump Day Beauty

Mornin'!  I've returned after a little babysitting hiatus/getaway in the Philadelphia area!  I'm home under Wildwood skies and it's a beauty this morning.  It's still dark but the sky is clear and beautifully starlit.  When all the lights have faded around the island (amusement piers, shops, homes occupied during the summer etc) the night sky (in this case early morning) is so clear, dark, vivid and completely starlit.  The absence of light pollution along with the aroma of the marshes equals loveliness.  It's 65° with no breezes to note.  We're going to continue this lovely stretch of "the jewel" weather as Ms Sun will be shining at least until Monday night/Tuesday morning.  The temps will hover around the low 80s with breezes out of the North today at 5-7mph.  Tonight...breezes out of the South at 10-12mph, clear skies again and temps down into the low 70s.  Love this time of year.  Feels good to be once again living the salt life although I'm already having withdraw symptoms of not having my 2 year old grandson close at hand.

The Bikers are roaring to the Shore this weekend

Mornin'!  Today's blog is in honor of those who lost their lives and loved ones in the 9/11/01 tragedy. I love my firefighters and first responders and thank you for your service!
It's 69° in Wildwood.  It's dark but those even darker ominous clouds are still visible in the morning sky.  We're drying out from some "bull pissin' on a flat rock" rains yesterday.  The island took on some major heavy downpours and storms with flooding everywhere.  I guess you could say we're drying out tropically at least at the moment as there's lots of moisture out there both in the air along with the island's saturation.  We're going to have a cloudy start today as Ms Sun's due to check in later this morning / early afternoon.  She'll dry things out; temporarily anyway.  Temps will get into the low-mid 80s as she shines down and breezes wift (waft) over us from the N-NW at 15-20mph.  Tonight...some cloudiness again as temps drop down into the mid-70s with breezes out of the SE at 5-7mph.

A bit of Rain on the Agenda

Mornin'!  It's 77 very humid degrees in Wildwood.  We just had a thorough drenching with enough thunder and lightning to put the pooch under my bed.  It's overcast and still with much heaviness as the next round of thunderstorms head in.  We're going to have clouds and scattered thunderstorms (60% chance) throughout the day with temps in the mid-upper 80s.  Some local heavy rainfall is possible, however peeks of sun may be in the mix as well. Winds will be out of the SE at 5-10mph. Tonight...more thunderstorms (90% chance) with temps heading down into the upper 60s and winds shifting from the W-NW at 5-10mph. It's should stop raining by midnight but the clouds are staying checked in until tomorrow afternoon.  The weekend's looking 50-50 with partly sunny skies and those thunderstorms looming throughout Saturday and Sunday morning.  The New Moon is this weekend (extra high tides)... just saying.

Mornin'!  It's 75° in Wildwood.  We're under clear, starlit skies with a light sea breeze this early morn.  It's very humid.  Ms Sun's on her way and will be shining down for the start of the day and hang out for most of the day.  The clouds are heading this way though bringing a chance of showers and/or thunderstorms (20-30% chance) later.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 80s as breezes will remain off the ocean (S-SE) at 11-14mph today and ramping up to 18-23mph by this evening.  The clouds are expected to stick around this evening as that chance of showers and/or thunderstorms stay in the forecast.  Tomorrow day and night...looking even wetter.  At this point, the weekend's looking 50-50 as Saturday looks okay but with rain at night and clearing some on the overnight with more showers Sunday.  It definitely looks like the bikers (Roar to the Shore weekenders) may be dodging some rain drops.

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood.  It's still dark and starlit outside.  No breezes...just stillness and the fragrant marsh aromas surrounding the neighborhood.  It'll be much like yesterday today as Ms Sun's due up as we'll have abundant sun shining down all day with temps in the mid-upper 80s.  Winds will be out of the W-SW at 10-15mph.  Tonight... down into the low 70s with breezes out of the South at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow looks okay too except for rain tomorrow night.  The island's becoming quiet again as this summer season winds down.  There's still plenty of vacationers here but just a fraction of what was here two weeks ago or even a week ago.  It certainly was a nice holiday weekend for the record books as we continue to head into the "jewel" of the entire summer season!

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood.  Ms Sun's just breaking through the horizon, morning clouds as I type.  The breezes are light and just perfect (E-NE at 5-10mph).  It's a lovely morning.  Looks like another nice one today with much less winds than yesterday.  Temps will be in the low 80s with mostly sunny conditions (some clouds in the mix today) and winds out of the E-NE at 10-15mph.  Tonight...clear and starlit with temps back down into the mid 60s and breezes light and variable.  Tomorrow looks much like today with warm temps.  Amazing what a gorgeous weekend this Labor Day weekend has been!

Mornin'!  It's 77° in breezy Wildwood.  There's an onshore breeze (E-NE) coming off the ocean and it's the main attraction today...20-25mph.  It'll stick around all day too creating a bit of havoc on ocean and beaches.  It'll be sunny with high of upper 70s/low 80s.  Winds will continue to blow over the island at 20-25mph off the ocean.  Sun will be shining down all day.  Tonight...mid-upper 60s with winds calming down out of the NE at 10-15mph. Watch the Rips today!

Partly Sunny Friday

Mornin'!  It's 75° in hazy, warm and very humid Wildwood.  It's crazy outside!  Ms Sun's up and there's not a breeze but there is so much humidity in the air this morning, it hits you immediately like a brick wall when you walk outside.  Everything's dripping wet and we had no rain as of late.  Looks like it'll be a nice warm one today as the sun shines down and temps go up into the mid-80s.  Breezes will help out coming off the ocean (E-NE) at 10-18mph.  There's a 20% chance of a thunderstorm later this afternoon.  Tonight...a little cloudy with temps in the upper 60s/low 70s and breezes still coming off the ocean (E-NE) at 10-20mph.  The holiday weekend's looking A-OK with clear, mostly sunny conditions and temps in the upper 70s-low 80s.  Doesn't seem to be any rain in the forecast!

Hazy Hot and Humid Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood.  It's muggy, humid and very hazy.  Seems like the haziness is the star attraction as Ms Sun's got her work cut out this early morn.  Today's weather will be a mix of clouds and sun with possibility (20% chance) of a thunderstorm (today but mostly tonight).  Temps are heading up and possibly tapping 90° again.  Breezes will be out of the W-NW initially at 7-9mph and shift by this afternoon from the SW at 5-6mph and shift again tonight from the SE at 12-15mph.  Tonight temps will head back down into the low 70s maybe even the upper 60s.  We've got a repeat happening tomorrow but with more comfortable temperatures.  Same for the weekend at least until Monday (Labor Day) when it typically rains as there's 40% chance of showers in most forecasts I've checked.  One does report  "sunny" for Labor Day. I'll be checking!

Muggy Hump Day

Mornin'!  It's 73° in muggy, humid, and rather aromatic Wildwood.  We've got us some thick "marsh" aromas out there this morning.  Love when that happens. No breezes at the moment but the sky is clear with the stars and moon shining down.  Expect some clouds to roll on in today as the forecasts I've checked 4 different forecasts and all report considerable cloudiness today.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 80s with breezes out of the S-SE at 8-10mph as that thick humidity sticks around. One forecast reported a 20% chance of a stray thunderstorm/shower later this afternoon or early evening.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the upper 60s-low 70s and breezes out of the SW at 5-10mph.  I've been keeping an eye on the holiday weekend forecasts and other than a 20% chance of a shower here and there (chances today as well as tomorrow and tomorrow evening) ...it's all looking A-ok as it'll be warm and mostly sunny right into next week.  I'd keep my eye on the sky and/or doppler anyway.

It's a lovely morning to kick off this Jewel.  It's 73° under clear, starlit, moonlit, cloudless skies.  No breezes to write about.  It'll be sunny and warm and humid today with temps nearing 90°.  Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 5-10mph.  Tonight...some clouds rolling in but mostly clear as temps drop back down into the low 70s/upper 60s.  Breezes out of the East at 5-10mph.
It's looking like it'll be nice for at least the first week  of September and that includes Labor Day weekend!
