Still Unsettled Down The Shore

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Once again, we're in the soup with 100% humidity and gray, foggy, misty conditions.  Everything's dripping wet outside.  Winds are barely there out of the South at 2-4mph.  Expect a gray day with 30% chance of rain in the earlier part of the day with possible peeks of sun in the afternoon.  Temps will be in the upper 70s along with SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... a few clouds, temps in the mid-60s and W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... it's Full Moon Day even though it may appear full today.  This Full Moon will be as large and low as it will be in 2043.  This occurrence is unique because of the major lunar standstill in the moon's 18 year cycle.  It's called the Strawberry Moon (named by Native American Tribes) for those wild strawberries that are at their peak of ripeness and ready for picking. We'll get to see this huge moon tomorrow as it'll be beautiful with plentiful sunshine during the day, and a clear evening sky, temps in the upper 70s and W-SW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... clear and moonlit, temps in the low-70s and S-SW breezes at 4-8mph. Tomorrow's weather will also repeat on Thursday.  Oh... the sunset and moonrise will just about be the same exact time if you find a spot on the island to watch that.

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 98% with a dew-point of 64° Winds are out of the NE at 5-10mph.  It's gray as the sky is still filled with clouds.  We had some major thunder-boomers and heavy rain overnight.  We got a very good watering.  I was awakened by the noise and I'm sure so was everyone else in the neighborhood (including babies and dogs).  There was lots of loud thunder cracking along with close to home lightning.  Very intense night. 
It's all quiet now with damp conditions and light breezes. Another Keeper

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and we still have a hazy sky that she's trying to shine through.  It's subdued sunshine.  Winds are light out of the SW at 5-10mph.  It's a beautiful start to the day.  I failed to mention yesterday that it was the anniversary of moving to Wildwood some 21 years ago on a lovely June day.  I'd have to say that it's been some of the best years of my life living here. June's been lovely every day this week too just to note.  All my windows are open, birds are chirping, grocery shopping was just completed and hubby's whistling as he skins the chicken thighs.  It's somewhat the beginning of "high" season and grocery shopping must be done as early as possible to avoid major congestion in the grocery isles not to mention somewhat empty shelves.  I won't mention the price gouging this time of year.  Anyway... that's why the "late" blog.

Mornin'! Welcome June!  She's bringing some bright sunny days to kick off this new month. 
It's 54° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's shining through some hazy sky.  Winds are out of the West at 10-15mph.  It's feeling crisp outside and almost like an autumn morning.  Yet, summer's 20 days away.  
It'll be a sunny start to the month, week and day.  Expect plentiful sunshine with some of those milky clouds this afternoon, temps will be in the low-70s with West winds on the blustery side at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 50s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the low-70s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the upper 50s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... sunny, temps in the upper 70s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday night... clear, temps in the low-60s and winds out of the S-SW at 5-10mph.  The rest of the week looks like sunshine on the weather menu at least up until Saturday.  But, I'm one to not go that far out as Saturday is forecasted as a washout.  But that remains to be seen.  For now... the focus is on the lovely start to June along with a couple warm days (Wednesday and Thursday).  Oh... it is the start to Hurricane Season as I'd be remiss if I didn't throw out that reminder.  The season lasts until November 30th.  June's Full Moon is on the 11th by the way. IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE: At 5:30PM this evening, a "Tornado Watch" was issued by the Natl Weather Service.  This includes all our surrounding areas in Cape May County, Delaware Bay Waters, Coastal Waters.  Be on guard tonight.  The Philly weather chick says that we'll begin to see very strong winds as a storm comes through the tri-state area in the direction of the Coast.  They're specifically saying 8PM to midnight in the Philly area.  It's then heading for our coast and our timeline here looks like 11PM into the wee hours of the morning.  Prepare for extremely strong winds and coastal flooding.  Remember those high tide times.  Know your low-lying areas.  Don't drive through flood waters.  Keep aware of the weather tonight and hunker down and stay safe!

Memorial Day 2025

Mornin'!  It's Memorial Day!  It's a federal holiday in the U.S. honoring our military personnel who died while serving our country in our US Armed Forces providing us our Freedom.  It's always observed on the last Monday in May.  It's also considered the unofficial beginning of summer.  Summer is officially June 20th until September 22nd.

Mornin'!  Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Cinco de Mayo is observed annually (widely in the US) and is associated with the celebration of Mexican-American cultures since 1862.  It was actually the "Battle Of Puebla" that's celebrated on this date with Mexico's much smaller Army victorious over the powerful French forces at that battle on May 5th 1862.

Mornin'!  It's 52° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining over the island with winds out of the SE at 1-3mph.  Once again... a beautiful morning as the island birds seem to be agreeing with this loveliness surrounding us as their peeps and whistles and coos and squawks are everywhere.  We're supposed to have a mostly sunny day as the clouds increase as the afternoon settles in.  Temps will be in the mid-60s with S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy with a 40% chance of showers after midnight, temps will go down into the mid-50s with Southerly winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... cloudy with showers, areas of fog, and even the possibility of thunderstorms (mainly before noon), temps in the low-70s with Southerly winds at 10-15mph +gusting of up to 25mph.  Chance of rain is 60%.  Tomorrow night... showers (and possibly thunderstorms) 60% chance, temps dropping to the upper 40s with NW winds at 5-10mph +gusting.  Sunday... blustery and partly cloudy with some peeks of sunshine, temps in the low-60s and NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Sunday night... mostly clear, temps in the low-50s and N-NW winds at 10-20mph +gusting.

Mornin'!  It's 49° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 49° as there's no wind to speak of to give off that seabreeze chill.  It's clear and Ms Sun's risen and has begun warming the island.  A variety of birds are everywhere making their presence known.  Even a hawk giving a scream was skimming right over my house.  It'll be a sunny start with partly sunny skies throughout the day, temps in the mid-60s and Southerly breezes at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the low-50s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... sunny with some light wispy clouds in the mix, temps in the low-60s and S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the upper 50s and S-SE breezes at 5-10mph.  Saturday... 60% chance of rain, temps in the low-60s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... 40% chance of rain, temps in the upper 40s and N-NW winds at 20-25mph.  Sunday... sunny, upper 60s and NW winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  Sunday night... clear, temps in the low-50s with N-NW winds at 10-15mph.

Tomorrow just before dawn while the sky is still dark and the moon is out (around 5:30AM), there will be a Triple Conjunction Event.  The Crescent Moon will be the shape of a smile in the sky while Saturn and Venus will be the eyes.  It'll look loosely more like a triangle.  Saturn will be on the right (the smaller looking planet) while Venus will look larger on the left. 

Smokey Skies

Ocean County Wildfires

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood NJ.  It's partly cloudy along with smokey conditions due to the wildfires happening in Ocean County (about an 1½ hrs. drive from here in Cape May County). This morning the Ocean Township Police Department posted that the North and Southbound lanes of the GSP (Garden State Parkway) and US 9 are now open.  Also, that evacuation orders remain in effect.  Stay safe everyone!
Back to the weather here at the Cape.  It'll eventually become a pleasant sunny day.  By the way, yesterday we had a truly summer day as we reached 80° for the first time this year!  At the moment, the clouds and smoke are hiding Ms Sun this morning.  The island's smokey with winds out of the N-NE at 10-12mph.  I had to shut the windows as the thick smell of smoke is replacing that salty fresh air in the house. We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds and I guess smoke today (at least until the winds shift) with temps in the low-60s and East winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, temps around 50° and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, temps in the mid-60s and calm SE winds at 5-7mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 50° with SE winds at 5-10mph.  As for this coming weekend... rain showers and thunderstorms due in for Saturday with temps in the upper 60s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Sunday... sunny, temps in the mid-60s and N-NW winds at 10-20mph.

Earth Day

Mornin'!  Happy Earth Day!  Earth Day is 55 years old today.  It was first celebrated on this date in 1970.  It is celebrated in numerous ways from community cleanups and tree plantings to engaging in environmental advocacy and education.  Simply taking the time to appreciate the natural world surrounding us is one of the best ways to celebrate (not to mention picking up trash you see along the way and perhaps making a commitment to keep the earth's beauty including our beaches trash-free).  
It's 58° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun is up and shining through the clouds as there are breaks in the cloudy sky here and there and everywhere.  Winds are out of the W-SW at 8-10mph.  It's a perfectly lovely morning.  The birds are cooing, squawking and chirping everywhere.  We're going to have a mostly sunny morning followed by mostly cloudy skies this afternoon.  Temps will tap 70° with West winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy with clearing late into the overnight, temps in the mid-50s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mix of sun and clouds, temps around 60° and East winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the low-50s and Southerly winds at 5-10mph.  We never got any rain yesterday or last night and aren't supposed to see rainfall until Saturday.  You might want to water those plants, seedlings or the soil where the seeds have been planted.  Besides picking up someone else's trash, tending to your garden is a perfect Earth Day activity!

Mornin'!  Rest in peace Pope Francis.  He was the 7th Pope in my lifetime.  The "mourning" doves are loud and clear this morning.  All that cooing is usually associated with peace, love and tranquility.  It seems to all work together with this morning's news and weather.
