Mornin'! It's 62° in Wildwood NJ. Well, it's the hardest month for me to say good-bye. I'm actually a bit verklempt about to write about "The Jewel" becoming a fleeting memory. Once again, September (my favorite of all the months) is about to bid adieu. For those of you that check my blog...you know that here at the Jersey Shore (aside from it being tropical storm or hurricane season) September has something that no other month has. It has perfect summer weather, a warm ocean, empty beaches, empty boardwalk, empty bike paths, parking spots everywhere, no more traffic, fishing tournament season, solo visits to the sunrises and most spectacular sunsets (very spiritual), migrations of awesome birds, monarch butterflies everywhere, no lines anymore...restaurants, gas, ATMs, stores etc. I could go on and on but the reasons are endless. It's about as perfect as you can imagine. It begins to get a little weird in October as things begin to really quiet down and literally shut down for the winter (at least a good 6+ months). Our population is roughly 15,000 for the entire island. We're added to the 250,000 summer population making for that summer intensity. Some who haven't lived here in the "off-season" are skeptical and actually a bit fearful of it ("it" is living in a very quiet, desolate Ghost Town most of the year). You'd be surprised how many "shoobies" ask, "What's it like here in the winter?" Myself...it all works out as I was immediately content and had no trouble adjusting to the other seasons when I moved here and enjoy it all. Time flies as that seasonal intensity will be back in a blink of an eye. The "2018 Summer Season" will be upon us soon enough loring the flocks of seashore lovers back to these Wildwoods...our little slice of the Jersey shore. Hey...the loveliness is not over yet as October's known for that beautiful "Indian summer" weather! And on a "winter" note...I'll always remember one New Year's day that I walked a very empty boardwalk and it was 62°. One never knows what the weather will be. It's all good. Life is good.
For today's weather...sunny with breezy conditions...winds out of the NW at 20-25mph, temps in the upper 60s (maybe tapping the 70s). And tonight...low 60s with clear, starlit skies and breezes switching out of the N-NE at 20-25mph. Tomorrow...sunny and much less breeze.

What a Difference a Day Makes
Mornin'! It's 57° in Wildwood NJ. Humidity's 68% with a Dewpoint of 46°. The sky is clear and starlit with a Northerly breeze at 10-15mph. It's (I can't believe I'm typing this) chilly outside. It's a "sweater-weather" type of morning. It'll be a lovely autumn day down the Shore with plenty of sunshine and temps tapping 70° with breezes out of the N-NW at 6-10mph. Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 50s / low 60s with breezes out of the W-NW at 10-15mph. The weekend's looking mostly sunny and blustery with Autumn written all over it. One forecast mentioned the possibility of afternoon showers for Saturday but no other report mentioned it. By the way...it's Mid-Atlantic Police & Fire Survivors, Monster Trucks on the Beach, Wild Thang (PT Cruisers) cars and The Italian Fest in Wildwood this weekend (yummo)!

Another Bad Hair Day
Mornin'! It's 72° in Wildwood NJ. Humidity's 92% with a 72° Dewpoint. It's clear, starlit and breezy...N-NW 15-20mph. It continues to feel warm and humid outside and inside. I've been ignoring the urge to put the AC back on. We're supposed to have a drop in temperatures by tonight and by the overnight...upper 50s / low 60s and by tomorrow it'll have that Autumn feel again. Today will be another "bad-hair" day with clouds mostly staying checked out and plenty of sunshine along with winds out of the N-NW at 20-25mph w/gusting. Maria's pulling away from the East coast but still providing outer bands of winds to our little island. Tonight...still breezy (North 18-20mph) with temps in the upper 60s and starlit skies.

Windy Wednesday
Mornin'! It's 72° in Wildwood NJ. It's overcast with 94% humidity and 72° dewpoint. Lots of drippy moisture out there this morning along with breezy conditions...NE 17-20mph. Everything feels damp and that's inside the house! It'll be a mix of clouds and sun (once some of these clouds check out by this afternoon) with temps barely tapping 80°. It'll be a bad hair day with NE winds wifting (I mean "wafting") over the island at 20-30mph. I've checked 4 different weather resources and all were slightly different...tough one today. One did report a 20% chance of rain while all the others reported only clouds mixed with sunshine. We're feeling the very outer bands and effects of Hurricane Maria about 100 miles off the North Carolina coast today. It's not just making some cloudy conditions, but it's also making for an extremely rough and dangerous ocean. Tonight...partly cloudy, low 70s, winds out of the NE 18-20mph.

First Day of Fall!
Mornin'! It's 69° in Wildwood NJ. Happy Autumn! Happy Irish Fall Festival! I'd say it's the biggest Festival of the year (although some may dispute that). It's cloudy with a very light breeze (North 3-5mph) here at the moment. Ms Sun's on the horizon and lighting up those deep, gray clouds but all forecasts are pointing to the Clouds winning out today. It'll be a mostly cloudy day with peeks of sun and temps just about tapping 80° and breezes out of the N-NW at 8-9mph. Tonight...mostly cloudy, NW breezes at 7-10mph and temps in the upper 60s. The weekend's looking great with Ms Sun shining down for the Fests...Irish, Classic Cars and Seafarers! We're making it happen in the weather department as it'll feel like perfect summer weather this first weekend in Autumn!

Last Day of Summer
Mornin'! It's 71° in Wildwood NJ. It's the last day of summer! Not sure what I was thinking yesterday morning (don't think the morning coffee kicked in) but I was calling yesterday the last day of summer. Wrong. Tomorrow is the Autumn Equinox and the first day of Fall. 4:00p.m. EDT to be precise. It'll still feel like Summer for at least the next 5 days though! (In fact, turned my AC back on!)
Today will be warm and humid as temps hit the low 80s with partly cloudy / partly sunny skies and breezes out of the N-NE at 8-10mph. Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the NW at 5-6mph. The weekend's looking A-OK...plenty of sunshine and summery warmth.

Mornin'! It's 70° in Wildwood NJ. It's cloudy with Northerly breezes 6-9mph. Humidity's 86° with Dewpoint 66%. It's feeling a bit warm and muggy out there. It'll definitely feel summery today as Ms Sun returns and shines down on this partly cloudy / partly sunny day with temps in the low 80s. Breezes will be out of the NW at 13-16mph. Tonight...mostly clear with temps in the low 70s, breezes out of the North at 7-8mph. The upcoming weekend packed with events (Irish Fall Fest in North Wildwood, the Classic Cars in Wildwood and the Seafarers Fest in Wildwood Crest) looks like a beauty.

Tropical Storm Watch
Mornin'! It's 69° in Wildwood NJ. We're under cloudy skies, very damp, humid conditions (almost feels like there's a misty rain going on) with breezes out of the NE 7-12mph. Ms Sun's taking a short hiatus as we probably won't see her shining down until sometime Wednesday. One forecast did say that she'll be peeking in throughout the day...doesn't appear so by the current look of things. There's a "Tropical Storm Watch" posted until then. Hurricane José is located out in the Atlantic ocean and its tropical storm force winds are expected to pass by the Delaware and southern New Jersey coast beginning sometime very early tomorrow morning. The strongest winds and rains are expected Tuesday afternoon through evening and should fall below tropical storm force by Wednesday morning. Coastal flooding not to mention very strong winds will pose a risk to property for the high tide cycles tomorrow into tomorrow night (the New Moon is Wednesday...higher than normal tides). For today...mostly cloudy, misty/wet conditions with temps in the low-mid 70s with winds out of the E-NE at 15-20mph. Tonight...cloudy with rains checking in on the overnight with winds out of the NE at 20-24mph and temps in the upper 60s - low 70s. Sometime today or tonight would be a good idea to hunker down on the outside stuff and begin preparations for this upcoming storm.

Pleasant Last Sunday of Summer (once these morning clouds drift on out of here)
Mornin'! It's 71° in Wildwood NJ. It's cloudy with light breezes (NE 9-12mph). Dewpoint is 69° and Humidity is 92%. It'll be another warm and sticky one with mostly sunny skies (some clouds in today's sky too), temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the East at 9-12mph. Tonight...mostly clear, temps in the upper 60s - low 70s and breezes out of the E-NE at 10-15mph. Hurricane José is way out in the Atlantic Ocean (few hundred miles off the coast of North Carolina) and will work its way North causing winds and rough surf and higher than usual tides along our coast this upcoming week. Our shores will have even more of that rough surf today with dangerous Rip Currents. Play it

Summer's Stopping By
Mornin'! It's 71° in Wildwood NJ. We've got dense fog this morning. Humidity's 95% with a Dewpoint of 70° as it's feeling very damp out there at the moment. No breezes to note. We're going to have lots of sunshine (once she breaks through) with temps in the upper 70s (possibly tapping 80°) and breezes out of the East at 7-10mph. It'll be hazy, warm and humid today. Tonight...mostly clear with some clouds in the mix with the Humidity still up there at 97%, breezes out of the E-SE at 5-10mph and temps in the low 70s. Just an fyi...Wildwood (proper) has no lifeguards on duty and suggests to call 911 if on the beach needing help. North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest have Beach Patrols cruising the beaches but no lifeguards positioned like usual. It's considered the "off-season". Just know that you're pretty much on your own if entering the surf. The wave action and currents will be rougher than normal and even more so this upcoming week as I saw one report post we'll have tropical storm force winds and tides next week thanks to Hurricane José (it's now back to a hurricane). There's a "new moon" this mid-week and our tides will be higher than normal as well. Take heed, be smart and use caution. Enjoy this weekend though as it'll certainly have that "Summer" feel!

The Start to a Nice Weekend
Mornin'! It's 69° in Wildwood NJ. It's clear with clouds at the horizon making Ms Sun's grand entrance in a few minutes a bit longer but just as beautiful as it can be. No breezes to note. It's humid...96% humidity as the dewpoint is 67%. It'll be a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies (few clouds in the mix) with temps in the upper 70s / low 80s and breezes out of the S at 6-9mph. Tonight...clear with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the SW at 7-8mph. The weekend's looking A-OK so far although one forecast (NOAA) mentions a 20% chance of rain showers both Saturday and Sunday. If the sky begins to look "iffy"...check the doppler. One thing's for sure at this time that now "Tropical Storm" José (could regain strength a turn back into a Hurricane)...will stay out in the Atlantic and do a drive-by giving the East coast some of its effects...with winds and most importantly...very rough surf. Be aware and play it safe this weekend. Oh...Welcome Firefighters as it's their Convention Weekend!

Mornin'! It's 71° in Wildwood NJ. We're under partly clear/partly cloudy skies. Not much in the line of breezes...very light out of the Southwest at 4-8mph. Humidity's 90% with a Dewpoint of 67°...it's kind of warm and sticky out there. Ms Sun's heading this way and these clouds will make for a gorgeous sunrise. She doesn't have much of a chance to shine as it'll be a partly cloudy day becoming cloudy by this afternoon with a 30% chance of stray shower and/or thunderstorm. Temps will be in the mid-upper 70s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph. Tonight...pretty much the same with temps back down into the upper 60s / low 70s and breezes 9-11mph still out of the SW and a 50% chance of rain. Looks like sunny, warm weather will be returning tomorrow and stick around for the Firefighter Convention this weekend.

Mornin'! It's 67° in Wildwood NJ. We under partly cloudy/ partly clear skies with no breezes to note. We're up for a mix of weather today as all the forecasts I've checked basically the same...low 70s, some sun, some clouds, some rain showers and some clearing. We should begin with clouds/sun and then it'll get cloudy with possible showers (30% chance) by late morning/early afternoon. This evening the rain clouds should begin to break up and clear out as it'll be mostly clear skies and by late tonight...clear, moonlit skies. Tonight...temps will get into the mid-upper 60s. Today's breezes (all 5-8mph) first out of the E-SE, S-SE, S, S-SW, then finally tonight...SW. Carry an umbrella today in case!

The Jewel Couldn't Sparkle Any Brighter
Mornin'! It's 56° (no typo) in Wildwood NJ. Humidity's way down as well as the dewpoint. There's no summer feel at all in this morning's weather. Ms Sun's up, the breezes are cool and light (North 7-10mph) and it's a beauty. The Bikers are experiencing the Jewel of all our four seasons weather this weekend. It'll be a repeat of yesterday with plentiful warm sunshine, temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the North 9-11mph. Tonight...clear, temps in the upper 50s with Northerly breezes at 15-20mph. Tomorrow...more of the same. Continued relentless thoughts and prayers for our Southern folk who opted to stay in the path of Irma. It's no secret that my husband and me love Key West and have been vacationing there for the last 7 years. Our hearts are trying not to break knowing what's about to happen to the Keys. Mornin'! It's 72° in Wildwood NJ. It's quiet and still with not much in the line of breezes. It's gray and damp and humid. No rain at the moment but the Dewpoint is 70% and Humidity is 89%. We're not going to see much of Ms Sun today (she's trying to peek through as I type though) as it'll be a mostly cloudy one with rain and/or thunderstorms (90%-100% chance) on the weather menu today and tonight. Some storms could produce heavy rains and gusty winds. Temps will be in the mid-upper 70s with winds out of the S-SW 10-20mph. Tonight...rain with temps in the low-mid 60s and N-NW winds at 10-15mph. Tomorrow...sunnier and warmer. Be aware of the Tides as they could produce street tidal flooding due to the rain in addition to the higher tides caused by the Fullmoon. Don't drive through corrosive/harmful tide water.

Unofficial End of Summer
Mornin'! It's 66° in sunny Wildwood NJ. Happy Labor Day! The "Jewel" of the season is upon us! That time of year when the weekdays are back to that quiet, emptiness on the island everywhere you look. The weekends will continue to be full of visitors but the ghost-town deserted feel is the norm during the weekdays beginning today. This unofficial end of Summer (the Fall Equinox is actually September 22nd) that is also a Federal Holiday always falls on the first Monday in September honoring the American Labor Movement. In 1894 President Cleveland signed legislation to put it into Law that we celebrate this annual workforce holiday. Labor Day has had its share of miserable weather as we close out the season, but not today. It'll be a splendid weather day with plentiful sunshine, temps tapping 80°, SW breeze at 5-15mph. Tonight...clear, 70°, S-SW breezes at 10-20mph. Tomorrow...more of the same with rains due in tomorrow night.

Clouds First Half / Sunshine Second Half
Mornin'! It's 67° in Wildwood NJ. It's still (no breeze to note) with mostly cloudy skies. Humidity's:96% with the Dewpoint:67°. It's damp and humid after yesterday's rain showers and/or downpours including the overnight torrents. We're saturated but Ms Sun's due up in about a half hour and these clouds should make for an interesting sunrise as we have a day of drying out up ahead. We'll have clouds slowly clearing out as the day will begin with a sky that will be with mostly cloudy, switch to partly cloudy and end up with mostly sunny all by midday. Temps will rise into the mid-70s with Westerly (pack the insect repellent) breezes at 12-16mph. Tonight...clear with temps in the upper 60s / low 70s, and breezes out of the W-SW at 8-10mph. Labor Day looks to be a sunny, warm day.

Happy Labor Day Weekend
Mornin'! It's 63° in Wildwood NJ. It's raining with winds out of S-SE at 10-20mph. Humidity's 78%, Dewpoint's 56°. Happily slept in a bit today with this lovely, cozy, gray, cool morning as the raindrops were tapping the canvas awnings. It'll be a washout today with remnants of Harvey passing through our neck of the woods with rain and wind in today's forecast. The temperature will barely tap 70° as rain and winds (E 20-30 w/gusting) make for a bit of a bad hair day. After what Hurricane Harvey's done to this country...not one complaint here. Our island is packed to the gills with Labor Day vacationers and we'll all be hunkered down for today for sure. I can only imagine what the Arcades, Movie theatres and WalMart not to mention the Bars are going to look like today and tonight! Speaking of tonight...more rain likely with thunderstorms in the mix too as temps drop back into the low-mid 60s with those winds out of the S-SE at 20-30mph. This system will clear out of here by sometime tomorrow morning (albeit cloudy into the afternoon) as the rest of the weekend is looking for the most part eh...okay.
High tide:6:11p.m.
Low tide:11:36a.m.

Welcome The Jewel of all the Seasons
Mornin'! Happy September! It's 63° in Wildwood NJ. It's mostly cloudy with breezes out of the North at 10-15mph. Humidity dropped to 67% and the Dewpoint is 51°. Feeling "Fallish" out there this morning for sure. It'll be mostly cloudy today with Ms Sun shining down and peeking in throughout the day as temps get up into the low 70s. Breezes will stay out of the North at 10-15mph. Tonight...breezes (hardly there) will be out of the SW at 3-5mph as temps drop back down into the low-mid 60s. Tonight's cloud cover isn't going anywhere as they prepare us for the rains due tomorrow. We're in for a good watering on Saturday. The rest of the holiday weekend appears to be mostly sunny and mild.

Low tide:10:47a.m.

Sunset:7:30p.m.
UV Index:6-7 (high)

The Last of the Summer Season Friday Beach Etiquette tips~
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any you see whether it's yours or not. Note trash and recycle containers as The Wildwoods do recycle.
~Don't forget those cigarette butts...collect and trash them (or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air). Never stick them in the sand and leave them...that'll be tomorrow's find for the little kid digging in the sand. Plus, cigarette filters take years to decompose and could be taken to the ocean by the tides giving sea life harmful/toxic cigarette filter tidbits to swallow.
~Remember to pack headphones (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music blaring from your boom box). Big, loud boom boxes are not welcomed on the beach.
~Kindly give your neighbors space when selecting your beach site. Courtesy is key. Careful not to plop down in others personal beach space.
~Teach children some beach etiquette. Running nearby others and kicking or throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it. Dropping one potato chip thoughtlessly will create seagull havoc.
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express emotion when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls. Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the beach vultures (gulls) are eyeing beach goers constantly trying to find who's eating and looking for the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times). Once they get you then the havoc begins as 40 other gulls come in for a food fight of your scattered lunch. By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the chips from your bag as well as share your snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~Playing ball, frisbee, corn hole, and kite-flying etc on the back side of the beach (dune side), not near beachgoers (the beach patrol will usually stop you anyway if you're in the wrong area.)
~shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~follow posted warnings (closed beaches, rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area etc) and always pay attention to lifeguards.
~Enjoy this holiday weekend!
