The "Norm"
Mornin'! It's 62° in WW this morning. Sun's just about over the horizon. Everthing is fine as normalcy is once again back in this islander's life. After arriving home yesterday afternoon and sitting out Hurricane Irene in Pennsylvania 90 miles from here last Friday until Sunday, I surprisingly discovered I missed the bullet as there was no damage to our home. No broken windows, not one tree down (we have 3 on our property), no torn canvas awnings, no flashing lights on appliances, no loss of electricity or gas, no water in the house (although there's a small leak of some kind in the front porch and some water under the house in the crawl space and water still in the back yard). Nothing was amiss...everything is exactly how we left it. Alot to be thankful for and all that anxiety...wasted. Today's weather...a beauty...just reaching 80°...blue skies will abound with minimal breezes out of the North at 5-10mph. A lovely day at the Shore. High tide:8:07a.m.; Low tide:2:19p.m.; Ocean temp:73°; Sunset:7:33p.m. My suggestion is make it a beach day. No one's here yet! Speaking of the beach...sorry to report that did take a hit and suffered some major beach erosion.

146 miles from Cape May
Evening'! Been hunkered down at our daughters in Pennsylvania preparing for the pounding later. It's warm out as the A.C. is on cooling the house. Rain is pouring down in torrents...it's intense tropical conditions. Not much wind is happening yet. There's quite a few very large trees in this area which is of major concern. As for Wildwood...I've been in touch with some WW folk this evening and it's doing the same thing there only with winds now kicking up - heavy winds but the storm is still 146 miles away. It's high tide and new moon as I type. The ocean is now in the streets. Not much more to report other than that ominous feeling of dread as the storm will impact us tonight while we try to sleep. God bless us everyone.
90 miles away
Mornin'! I'm 90 miles away from WW safe and sound at daughter & son-in-law's home in Bucks County. Evacuation was a breeze. Unlike preparing for the evacation. Our drive (no tolls as tolls were suspended) was effortless as we left the highway and took the back roads and beat any traffic out there. In checking the shore weather today...it's basically the same as yesterday...warm, muggy, quiet before the storm arrives tonight. It'll probably begin raining sometime this afternoon and eventually Irene will arrive pounding Wildwood like its never been pounded before beginning this afternoon. (just heard it's begun to rain in Cape May at 7a.m.) Here's a live feed to follow...www.wildwoodmag.com/
I'll be watching. We'll all be watching.
I'll be watching. We'll all be watching.

Evacuation Day!
Mornin'! It's 73° this dark, early morn. Talk about quiet. Not a breeze to be had. Not a car on my street other than my own. As I stand on my front landing looking in the direction of Rio Grande Ave., all I see are cars bumper to bumper heading off the island and it's only 5a.m. It's the calm before the storm on this evacuation day. New Jersey is under a State of Emergency says our Governor. And the Director of Emergency Managment has issued a mandatory order of evacuation. He actually said "if you do not leave, prepare by putting an index card inside your left shoe marked with your name, social security number, next of kin and a phone number for identification purposes." After typing this blog, my personal evacuation begins as I head out of Wildwood leaving my home as I once knew it. I'm as hunkered down as I can get for the time being and the rest is in Mother Nature's hands. Today will be mostly sun with periods of clouds as there's a chance of showers sometime later this afternoon. Tomorrow much of the same with more clouds than sun. It'll be muggy and humid both days. Tomorrow night (Saturday) is the window for Irene's impact as heavy rains and intense winds will begin. She'll roar through right into early Sunday evening. It's a new moon as well so the tides will have a huge impact with the floods and tidal surge as the hurricane crushes the island. Tides will be in that 7p.m.-8p.m. hour (Sat.and Sun). Winds will be 75mph sustained and 100mph gusts. Can't believe I'm typing those numbers. By late Sunday evening...calmness should begin to be felt as islanders begin to return home and access what Irene's left in her path. I guess that's all I got as I sign off with hopes of sitting in this exact spot ready to blog about the aftermath! Good luck to all of us in her path!

The last of the Beauts!
Mornin'! It's 68° this beautiful summer morning. Not much of a breeze to write about. The Sun just rose over a horizon of clouds painting some fantastic colors in the morning sky. It'll be a beaut today and could be the last one for awhile as chances of rain begin tomorrow as we head into Irene's weekend. Today will be warm and sunny (a bit of cloud cover will be in the mix) as temps rise into the low 80's. Breezes will be out of the South at 10-15mph. Sounds like another perfect beach day! High tide: 4:45p.m.; Low tide:9:55a.m.; Ocean temp: 77°; Sunset: 7:43p.m. Remember the trash...please take care and pick it up!

Another Beauty!
Footnote: at 1:51p.m. today...an earthquake could be felt on the island! Apparently the epicenter 5.8 magnitude was in Virginia and could be felt up and down the eastern seaboard and as far inland as central PA. There was a 5.3 in Colorado at 5 o'clock this morning too! Might be more than summer coming to an end.

Partly Cloudy-Mostly Sunny
Mornin'! It's 73° in WW. It's cloudy this early morning as the sun's trying to rise and shine. It still feels a bit on the humid side but much more comfortable than it has been. Breezes are coming from the NNW at 10mph. This morning will be partly cloudy, but will give way to mostly sunny skies as this Monday takes shape. Temps will go into the low-mid 80's as winds will be out of the NW at 10-15mph a bit later. High tide:2:15p.m.; Low tide:7:36a.m.; Ocean Temp: 78°; Sunset:7:45p.m. The island's beginning to give off a hint of the "off-season" as it's becoming quieter and much less congested during the week. I'm assuming vacationers are home and now focused on the start of school season rather than what to pack for the Shore. We're on the brink of the "Jewel" of the season. Only 4 weeks until Autumn! If you are here enjoying a beautiful day at the Shore, remember to pick up your trash...please don't litter the island!

Looking Good...well...kind of
Mornin'! It's 66° this sunny, calm, beautiful morning in WW. Forecast looks good. It's going up to the mid-80's with a mostly sunny (some clouds) day. It'll be warm, a bit humid and dry as no rain is in the forecast today although tomorrow there is. Winds will blow from the South a bit later at 10mph. High Tide:12:27p.m.; Low Tide:6:57p.m.; Ocean Temp: 76°; Sunset: 7:49p.m. Looking like a beach day to me! Oh...the DEP (Dept. of Environmental Protection) is monitoring an Algae Bloom right off our Jersey coast (Cape May to Ocean County). Apparently this is naturally occuring (warm water temps + heavy rains = rapid algae growth) ...and is related to water currents and nutrient rich water rapidly feeding algae and doesn't appear to cause any threats to our beach or bathers. Could lead to a fish kill though as it robs the water of oxygen thus robbing the fish of life! No threat right? If you do venture onto our beaches to enjoy a pretty decent beach day today...don't forget about your trash...please pick it up...trash is bad enough, but trash and algae sure don't mix!

Hump Day Perfection
Mornin'! It's 66° this early morn. The air is a bit humid and very still as the sun's about to rise. Guaranteed a perfect sunrise as there's not a cloud in the sky. Everything outside is soaking wet from the island's morning dew. However...it will be a perfect hump day as the forecasters are calling for blue, sunny skies as not a drop of rain predicted. Temps will rise to the mid-80's. Breezes will begin wafting later this morning from the NW at 10mph; then shift from the South by this afternoon. High tide:10:28a.m.; Low tide:4:40p.m.; Ocean temp:74°; Sunset:7:53p.m. No doubt a beach day. The annual Air Show is in Atlantic City today up the coast a bit (50 miles/78 km) and you may just be lucky to catch a flyover of some sort while on the WW beach. Oh don't forget...no littering our island; please pick up your trash!

"Iffy" Tuesday
Mornin'! It's 73° this early morning. Sun's almost up...another 10 minutes or so and the bright, pale, coral sky will be turning bright shades of golds and yellows with the beautiful sunrise. It's all looking very good at the moment. The "iffy" comes later. By this afternoon the forecasters are calling for rain clouds rolling in along with pop-up scattered showers, downpours and/or thunderstorms. Keep aware that the island does some big time flooding especially at high tide. Don't drive through floods waters...more than likely it's the Sea and you're coating the exterior/underneath of your vehicle with Salt! Temps will rise into the lo-mid 80's today as humidity's 86%. Breezes are null at the moment but will be wafting over the island a bit later from the NW at 10-20 mph. High tide: 9:57a.m.; Low tide:4:00p.m.; Ocean temp: 77°; Sunset: 7:54p.m. My advice would be do your outdoor activities this morning or as early in the day as possible, as you may be finding an indoor activity by this afternoon. See you at WalMart! Oh...almost forgot...watch your trash. Pick it up and please no littering the island! Monday, August 15, 2011
Dreary Monday
FOOTNOTE: Since 11a.m. today...blue skies. Nothing but sun and blue skies and without a doubt a beach day. Pick up your trash...please no littering the beach or our island!

Not-So Sunsational Sunday
Mornin'! It's 75° this dark, dreary morning. Forecast doesn't look too promising. Not to mention the North Wildwood Flea Market is today...rain or shine and there's no shine in today's forecast. The success of this huge annual event remains to be seen. It'll be cloudy and humid today with showers and/or thunderstorms periodically (90% chance with 1-2 inches forecasted). There could be periods of no-rain, but they'll be few. Temps will be in the low-80's with a Southerly wind at 16-20mph with gusting. High tide:8:37a.m.; Low tide:2:39p.m.; Ocean Temp: 78°; Sunset: 7:56p.m.

Simply Suntastic Summer Day!
Mornin'! The Title's not my words...they're the Dipper's. It's a very comfortable 65° this early morning. Sun just rose over the horizon. No breezes to write about. Humidity's down. And, once again the Gulls are celebrating everywhere. When it comes to respecting those of us on vacation who would like to sleep in...the Gulls could care less. Some of us like to hear them regardless of what time they're celebrating and some of us simply sleep through their early morning screeching. Temps will rise into the mid-80's. Humidity will stay down. Breezes will begin blowing over the island from the North, then turn to a seabreeze at 10-15mph. Tides...High:7:24p.m.; Low1:11p.m.; Ocean temp:77°; Sunset:7:58p.m.; Moonrise:7:09p.m. (Full Moon is tomorrow); Meteor Showers: 10p.m.-5a.m. (It's the annual Perseids Meteor Shower weekend)...keep your eyes to the sky (Easterly). Weekend's looking half great; half...not so great as Saturday will repeat today pretty much and Sunday looks rainy. For today though...enjoy...it'll be simply "Suntastic"! Oh...don't litter the island...pick up that trash. Perhaps even if it isn't your trash...it be nice if you'd pick that up too!

Perfect Start; Perfect Ending
Mornin'! It's get this...64° this morning! I couldn't believe my eyes when I read my porch thermometer. After checking my weather sources...it's accurate...64°! AC's off! Sun's up, humidity is low, very minimal clouds (beautifully tinted pastel colors lighting the sky) and a very light breeze is welcoming this Friday morning...just a perfect early morning at the Shore. It seems like it will be a perfect start to the weekend as it will be partly sunny, temps will staying in the low 80's and breezes are exactly what we like...from the direction of the Sea at 10-15mph. The weekend's looking like it'll start out like today and eventually the sun will give way to clouds and rain which could hang around for late Saturday and the overnight right into Sunday morning. Sunday looks like it will end on a good note. Remains to be seen. You might want to water the gardens anyway. Tides...High:12:46p.m.; Low:7:06p.m.; Ocean temp:77°; Sunset: 8:08p.m. (going down much earlier). Daily reminder...pick up your trash; please don't litter the island.
