Much Cooler and Windier Down The Shore

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  The heat and humidity took a "five" and is outta here for now.  It's cool and very breezy (E-NE 20-25mph) with Ms Sun shining down through some bits of cloud cover.  We've had a major shift in the summer weather for the next few days with low humidity and dewpoint.  It's currently 67% humidity with a 57° dewpoint!  Expect a mostly sunny day with some clouds in the mix and temps in the mid-70s and stiff breezes remaining out of the E-NE at 17-23mph.  No rain in sight.  Tonight...mostly clear skies with temps in the upper 60s and E-NE breezes still checked in at 10-13mph.  Looks like it'll still be breezy for tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and temps in the upper 70s.

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny, humid (dewpoint is 76° with 89% humidity in the air) with light breezes out of the SW at 5-7mph.  It'll be an unsettled weather day with clouds rolling in and showers and/or thunderstorms on the weather menu today (50-70% chance).  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with SW breezes at 8-15mph becoming West by this afternoon.  Tonight...some cloud cover with a 50-60% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms (early evening) and some of these storms could produce heavy rainfall.  Later tonight...clouds clearing with temps...upper 60s with Northerly breezes at 13-18mph.  Tomorrow...bright, clear skies with plenty of sunshine and also plenty of sea breezes (make sure your bungee cord is packed in your beach bag for securing that ol' umbrella).

Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette~
~Remember to pack water, hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, and shade (umbrella or sand chair with a canopy). If packing an umbrella be aware of wind speed as you may have to take extra steps to secure it such as sand (screw) grabber or bungee cord.  It's pretty amazing how not secure some umbrellas can be as the wind launches them directly toward you.
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any that you see whether it's yours or not.   Note trash and recycle containers are situated everywhere.
~Don't forget those cigarette butts...collect and trash them.  Or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air. Never stick them in the sand and leave them...that'll be tomorrow's find for the little kid digging in the sand.  Plus, cigarette filters take years to decompose and could be taken to the ocean by the tides giving sea life harmful/toxic cigarette filter tidbits to swallow. Smoking is banned on the Boardwalk in all the towns by the way.
~Remember to pack headphones for your music device or at least keep the volume down to a minimum (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music not to mention your beach neighbor might be quietly trying to listen to their own music).  
~Kindly give your beach neighbors space when selecting your beach campsite. Courtesy is key. Careful not to plop only inches from others' blankets/umbrellas.
~Teach children some beach etiquette. Running (basically "kicking") and dispensing sand nearby others as well as throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it.  
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express emotion when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls. Dropping one potato chip thoughtlessly will create seagull havoc. Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the seagulls are much like vultures and are endlessly eyeing beachgoers eating habits.  They're relentless trying to find the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  If successful, seagull havoc begins as 40 other gulls come in for a food fight of your scattered lunch.  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the bag of chips from your bag as well as share their newly acquired snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~Playing ball, frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, or kite-flying etc is a no-no at the beach.  I mean on the back side of the beach (dune side) or other designated areas is more appropriate for active beach games.  Stay away from those camped out that are simply trying to enjoy their quiet, relaxing beach day.  The beach patrol will probably stop you if playing in the wrong area anyway.  
~Shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~Observe and follow posted beach warnings (closed beaches, no alcohol, strong rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area etc) and always pay attention to lifeguards.  If in doubt...ask the lifeguard (they're terrific people).

Another Warm One

Mornin'!  It's 77 humid degrees in Wildwood NJ. There's 97% humidity out there. That means the air is saturated with vapor.  Everything's damp and a bit drippy outside.  I left 2 beach towels on the clothesline and when I gathered them first thing this morning, they were wetter than when I hung them yesterday afternoon.  I'll just wait for Ms Sun...she'll be taking care of the heat again today as temps rise to the mid-upper 80s.  It'll be another sunny, humid, hazy and hot day down the shore again.  There's not much to report about breezes (currently out of the South a 1-3mph).  Nothing's moving out there.  They will pick up today though (just in case...might want to pack a bungee cord for securing the beach umbrella) out of the S-SE at 10-15mph.  That'll certainly feel good at the beach.  Tonight...breezes shift from the S-SW at 15-20mph with temps where they are now along with cloud cover in the mix (20% chance of a passing shower or even a thunderstorm).  I have to once again mention that intense heat on the beach...essentials for a "safe and healthy" beach day: plenty of water, head/footwear, sunblock and umbrella (or sand chair with canopy).  The beach sand is burning hot and even with sandals or flipflops, it'll make its presence known when walking through it. There were hardly any people that took it in their stride.  Time and time again I saw beach folk running or just about running to reach the compact, cooler sand.  Yesterday, a young adult couple nearby enjoying their beach day were repeatedly applying sunblock yet were arranging their sand chairs to face the blazing sun all day without any cover whatsoever...no umbrella; no hats, no t-shirt, no break from the rays.  I was watching them both get a real dose of Ms Sun's rays. I pointed it out to my husband who said "We all have to learn."  Speaking of sunburn...you can get a bad burn from an overcast day on the beach.  Even when the sun's rays are hidden by haze or those milky clouds making the sun-worshipping more comfortable, no doubt you're getting Ms Sun's intense rays.

Mornin'!  Happy 4th of July!  It's 79° in Wildwood NJ.  96% humidity out there again with sunny skies and breezes hardly noticed (E-NE at 4-6mph).  It feels sticky out there.  It'll be another very warm day with humidity up there as temps climb up to the mid-upper 80s with some cloud cover in the mix and breezes out of the E-SE at 7-10mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps in the mid-70s, high humidity and breezes out of the SE at 5-7mph.  We haven't had rain in quite awhile but there's a 15% chance of some rainfall tomorrow.

The Heatwave Continues

Mornin'!  It's 77° in Wildwood NJ.  We've got some misty/foggy/hazy conditions as Ms Sun's doing all she can to break on through.  It's still with hardly a breeze to note (S-SE 2-3mph).  It's as humid as you can get...100% humidity.  Most of the windows of the house are filmy.  The moment you step onto the back porch, your eyeglasses fog over due to the moisture in the air.  All the trees and plants are dripping.  It's heavy.  I would imagine it's like being in a tropical forest.  Expect this current heatwave to continue today with temps in the low 90s and plenty of hazy sunshine.  Breezes will be out of the S-SE at 8-10mph.  Tonight...clear, warm and humid with temps in the upper 70s and breezes out of the SE at 5-7mph.

Repeat of July 1st

Mornin'!  It's 81° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87%.  No breezes to note.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  It's hot out there!  Being spoiled by air conditioning, it's quite a shocker leaving the good fortune of comfortable conditions when walking into a blast of heat and humidity stepping on the back porch this morning.  It'll be another really hot one today with temps tapping the low 90s again.  I realize it could be worse, but it's very hot and oppressive down the shore.  Expect plenty of sunshine, breezes out of the S-SE at 8-10mph and high humidity.  Remember all those things I've been posting...pack water, sunblock, covering (hat, umbrella, footwear etc.).  Tonight the temps will head into the upper 70s with partly clear skies and breezes out of the South at 4-6mph.

It's July!!! More Good Summer Weather Ahead!

Mornin'!  Happy July!  It's 79° in Wildwood NJ.   We're still in the thick of a nice heatwave as it's warm outside this morning.  It's sunny and still and let's not forget fragrant with the aromas of the heavy marsh (back bay) smell in the early haze of the island.  It's summer alright!  We're going to have a repeat of yesterday...plentiful "hot" sunshine pouring down giving us temps in the low 90s with light land breezes (W-NW) to start the day but by mid-day they'll switch from the South all at 4-8mph.  It'll be very hot on the beach.  You know the hot summer beach tips...pack plenty of water, sunblock, insect repellent and wear a hat, an umbrella and footwear!  It's just mind-blowing how many thoughtless folk are out there burning up right in front of my eyes each day on that beach.  So for tonight...beautiful as it'll be warm with partly cloudy skies and temps where they are now...upper 70s and Southerly breezes at 10-13mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.
