Looking Mostly Cloudy Today

Ferry Terminal Waterway - Cape May
Mornin'!  It's Abraham Lincoln's birthday today.  He was born 217 years ago.  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 19° with those NW winds at 18-22mph +gusting.  Why not?  A sweatshirt was the only thing needed when out and about doing a little shopping yesterday at the Cumberland Mall (50 miles inland) as we actually had a slight preview of Spring. It was a surprisingly mild, sunny, calm, weather day yesterday as temperatures reached 48° (feeling much warmer) here in Wildwood as well as surrounding areas.  I never thought I'd think that 48° was mild but it was just that.  We had quite a meltdown and what a beauty!  Today... not so much.  It's currently cloudy and will stay mostly cloudy with peeks of sun (mostly in the morning), temps in the mid-30s feeling like the low-20s due to the NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... partly clear, temps around 25° and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the mid-30s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the upper 20s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Saturday... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-40s and West winds at 10-15mph.  Saturday night... partly cloudy, cloudy overnight, temps in the low-30s and SW winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... a 60% chance of a rainy day, temps around 40° and East winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday night... 80% chance of rain, temps in the mid-30s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... 40% chance of rain, temps in the low-40s and N-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Monday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-30s and N-NW winds at 5-10mph.

Meltdown Has Begun

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW
Mornin'!  It's 36° in Wildwood NJ. The windchill temp is 28° with light winds out of the NW at 5-10mph.  The meltdown is on! You can hear everything melting when stepping out this morning.  It'll probably continue to thaw all what's frozen on the island and surrounding areas the remainder of this week. It's currently cloudy as Ms Sun rises in less than a half hour.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with gusty winds developing this afternoon.  Temps will go to 41°!!! Winds will keep us from feeling that warmth as they'll be rip-roaring out of the NW at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the upper 20s and W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny with a few clouds from time to time, windy with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting and temps around 35°.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps in the mid-20s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Friday... sunny, temps in the mid-30s with NW winds at 10-15mph.  Friday night... partly cloudy, temps around 30° and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Saturday... sunny, temps in the low-40s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 30s and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... cloudy with 50% chance of rain showers in the afternoon, temps around 40° and E-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday night... 70% chance of rain, temps around 33° and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.

Cloudy Tuesday

5th Street Boat Ramp - North WW
Mornin'!  It's 27° in Wildwood NJ.  No windchill!  There are no breezes to note.  Enjoy that calm.  It's partly cloudy as Ms Sun's trying to get through all the cloud cover along the beach.  We should see peeks of sunshine this morning as more clouds roll in and create a gray day with cloudy conditions.  Temps may hit 40° and that's a "4" and not a typo!  Expect a real balmy day after these last 19 days of frigid temps.  We'll have southerly breezes at 3-5mph this afternoon.  Tonight... 20% chance of rain beginning late tonight into the overnight, temps in the low-30s and South winds at 4-6mph becoming blustery after midnight switching from the NW at 15-20mph.  Tomorrow... mostly cloudy start becoming sunny with temps hitting 40° again!  It'll be breezier tomorrow with NW winds at 15-20mph +gusting.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 30° wit W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  The Ferry has cancelled its first sailing today again due to ice.  And, I'm hoping that my neighborhood birds get a chance to enjoy the birdbath out back.  I keep watering the ice in and refilling as time and time again they've been waiting for a drink of water.

Sunny Monday

Today's Cam Shot - WW Crest
Mornin'!  It's 13° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like -1° with the N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Ms Sun is up over the icy horizon.  It's incredibly cold and icy outside.  There's still old, leftover snow (weeks old) and icy patches around the island.  At the beach along the ocean line there are rigid uneven blocks of ice. The ocean is actually icing up (A rare phenomenon) and beginning to create ice mounds where the waves break.  Winter certainly is having its way with us.  The sunshine today should begin somewhat of a warming as temps climb into the upper 20s possibly tapping 30° but it'll still feel like the teens with the NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-20s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow...  cloudy with balmy temps and a high of 38° with Southerly winds at 10-15mph.  We may just see some real melting tomorrow.  Fingers crossed.  Here's something else to keep your fingers crossed... 25% chance of rain tomorrow night with temps in the mid-30s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  We haven't had any rain here since January 18th. Wednesday... partly clear / partly cloudy with temps tapping 40° but gusting winds are once again the show stopper (NW at 15-25mph +gusting).

Mostly Sunny Sunday

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'! It's 11° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like -8° from the windchill.  Winds are still wailing out of the NW at 25-30mph +gusting.  I checked and the coldest place in the U.S. is Fairbanks, Alaska with a minimum average temp of -16° with the lowest recorded temp of -66°.  So, I guess I'm grateful for the weather here along the New Jersey coast.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly over the island.  There's not a cloud in sight.  It'll be partly sunny with dangerous winds continuing through tonight.  Temps will be around 20° with windchills at 2-4 degrees from the NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear skies, temps around 12° feeling like 0° from those N-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... sunny and high near 30°!!!!  Winds will be out of the NW at 10-15mph making it feel like 15°.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the low-20s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... we could actually tap 38° with barely a breeze.  It looks like no sunshine though.  Continue to take frostbite precautions if heading outside even if it's for the littlest thing.  The windchill is something you take very seriously.  Stay safe out there!

Dangerous Cold and Winds Surround Us

Beach Cams This Morning

Mornin'! It's 28° in Wildwood NJ feeling more like 12° with the windchill.  It's cloudy and the winds are out of the NW at 30-40mph +gusting.  It's incredible as an Arctic front is bringing some dangerous wind and cold and some snow to our region right now and throughout today and tomorrow.  We're in the midst of snow showers (barely landing on the ground) with wintry skies.  Today's "warnings" remain in effect through tomorrow... "High Wind Warning" and "Extreme Cold Warning" are posted and should be taken very seriously.  It'll be like this all day... intermittent snow showers with extremem winds out of the NW at 35-50mph.  Chance of snow is 30%.  Temps will be dropping as it'll stay cloudy and feel like -5°.  Tonight... skies will clear, temps will be around 10° with NW winds at 25-40mph making it feel like -8°.  Tomorrow... mostly clear with clouds from time to time, still very windy with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting making the 20° feel like -1.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 13° feeling like -2° from the N-NW winds at 15-25mph. Be careful with this badboy.  Don't leave the house if you don't have to.  And, bundle up like never before (layer up and head, face, hands covered) if you must go outside.  Stay safe.

It's The Calm Before Another Weekend Winter Weather System

Delaware Bay - The Sunken Ship

Mornin'!  It's 23° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling more like 16° with the light winds out of the North at 4-6mph.  It's clear with some hazy clouds.  It's cold with frost on all the surfaces outside.  It's the calm before the storm.  Starting tomorrow there will be some "warnings" posted for this weekend.  First up will be the "Extreme Cold Warning" due to the low temps and high winds.  The other naturally is "High Wind Warning" bringing the dangerous wind chills.  And still another is "Heavy Freeze Spray" warning that is directed mainly to mariners and those in vessels in coastal waters of the Atlantic and Delaware Bay.
It'll be a partly sunny day with a mix of clouds and sunshine, becoming mostly cloudy this afternoon, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 40% chance of snow showers / flurries becoming less late this evening, temps in the low-20s and W-NW winds at increasing from 5-10mph to 20-30mph.  Snowfall amounts are barely an inch.  Tomorrow... mostly cloudy and very windy along with snow showers and flurries, no accumulation expected, temps in the mid-upper 20s and NW winds at 25-40mph +gusting creating a windchill of below zero temperatures.  Tomorrow night... clear and very windy, temps around 10° feeling like -7° due to the NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting to 50mph.  Sunday... mostly sunny and very windy.  Temps will be in the low-20s with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting making it feel like 5° to -2°.  Sunday night... clear skies, temps around 12° with N-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting making the windchills in the -2°.  Take this incredibly cold spell very seriously.  If you must go out, dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves.  Exposed skin could easily and quickly be subject to frostbite. Oh, and by the way, it was 16 years ago today that "Snowmagdeon" hit Wildwood.  Kept me in the dark without heat for 6 days.

Groundhog Day

Today's Moonset Shot - Ottens Harbor
Moonset Shot - Fifth Ave. Boat Ramp
Mornin'!  Happy Groundhog Day!  Groundhog day can feel like a pivot point toward Spring, but there's usually much more snow, cold and winter days to come for many cities across the USA.  With that said,  we'll have to wait for today's sunrise for Punxsutawney Phil to see his shadow or not.  I'll check back later.  The groundhog just saw his shadow... 6 more weeks of winter.  Whatever.
It's 20° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 7° with that ol' windchill doing its thing.  Winds are out of the NW at 15-20mph and it's clear and moonlit.  It'll be a sunny Monday with temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel like the teens.  Tonight... clear and cold, temps in the low-20s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the upper 30s and W-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy with 70% chance of snow showers developing, temps around 30° and winds light and variable.  We could see up to an inch. February's In The House Along With The Full Moon

This Morning's Webcam Shot - WW Crest
Mornin'!  February's here!  Welcome!  It's 16° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 2° due to the N-NW winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  It's noisy, cloudy, gray and ominous outside this morning.  The winds are howling big time and it's still freezing.  Ms Sun's up but nowhere to be seen this morning.  She may start to peek in this afternoon as temps rise into the mid-upper 20s.  The N-NW winds aren't going anywhere though... 25-35mph +gusting today and full of salt and sand smacking you as hard as it can.  Tonight... we'll probably catch some of that Full "Snow" Moon as it'll be partly clear / partly cloudy with clear skies overnight, still very, very cold at 18° and NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel like 4°.  Tomorrow... a bright and sunny day with temps in the low-30s!  The winds will have simmered down to 15-25mph out of the NW.  Tomorrow night... clear and cold with temps in the low 20s feeling like the mid-teens and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  We missed the Gianna bullet that's for sure.  February has given us some extraordinary storms and Gianna wasn't one them.  In February 2010, we had six snow storms.  Lest not forget Snowmageddon the first week of February 2010 (22" fell not including the high drifts along with no power in Wildwood for 6 days).

Getting The Snub From Gianna

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's  14° in Wildwood NJ.  It's more like -1° with the windchill from the NW winds at 10-15mph.  Ms Sun just rose over the horizon and thankfully another sunny day is ahead.  Expect a bitterly cold day with plenty of sunshine, and a high of 21° feeling more like 5° with NW winds at 15-20mph.  Tonight... partly clear, moonlit skies, still very, very cold with temps around 11° feeling like -5° from the N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy with some sunshine, temps around 24° feeling like 10° and North winds at 10-20mph.  There's a 20% chance of snow showers / snow squalls.  Tomorrow night... cloudy with 60% chance of snow (just over an inch), very gusty winds developing overnight.  Temps will be in the mid-teens feeling like 0° from the North winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Sunday... as Gianna veers off the coast, while still heading north, she'll barely graze us. It'll be a gray day with gusty winds and flurries or snow showers forecasted (30% chance) as we may not see any snow accumulation at all and just get a dusting to barely an inch.  Temps will be in the mid-upper 20s feeling like 10° or less due to the winds which are what we'll be dealing with out of the N-NW at 20-30mph +gusting.  Sunday night... partly cloudy, gusty winds out of the NW at 20-30mph +gusting over 40mph, temps around 20° feeling like 4°.  Monday... Ms Sun returns with balmy temps and a high of 33° feeling like 18° with those gusty winds staying checked in.  At this time, no one is forecasting or reporting snow accumulation for our coast other than flurries, snow showers or a coating to an inch from Gianna.  This storm seems to have its focus on our southern (Carolinas, Georgia and Virginia) neighbors this time.  According to my research, they're the ones with snow accumulation coming their way.  Be safe!

Cold Weather Advisory Continues

Mornin'!  It's 16° in Wildwood NJ with a windchill of 2° as the NW winds are 12-17mph.  We're still frozen solid on the island.  But, thankfully we're going to have sunshine again today.  Expect a mostly to partly sunny day as some clouds are in the mix.  Winds are making their presence known but will becoming really gusty out of the NW at 20-30mph keeping us in those single digit windchills.  Temps will be around 23° but feeling more like 8°.  Tonight... clear and moonlit, temps around 14° with NW winds at 10-20mph making it feel like 3°.  Tomorrow... another sunny day with a high of 22° and NW winds at 10-20mph creating that windchill.  Tomorrow night... partly clear, temps are 11° with N-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday... partly cloudy start giving way to a cloudy day, temps in the low-20s with North winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... a potential winter storm checking in with snow, temps around 15° and North winds at 25-35mph.  Sunday... the potential winter storm continues with snow in the morning tapering off by the afternoon, temps in mid-upper 20s with N-NW winds at 25-35mph.  Sunday night... mostly cloudy, temps in the upper teens and NW winds at 20-30mph.  As for more info on Gianna, it's a bit early this morning and all my weather sources have not yet been updated with information on this next winter storm.  Stay tuned as I'm regularly checking for updates.

Sunny Hump Day

WW Boardwalk - Beach Cam Shot Today

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling more like 7° with the NW winds at 10-15mph.  It's clear and I guess you could say "crisp".  There's quite a bite in the air actually and I'm talking frostbite.  Ms Sun's on her way and my guess is will be doing whatever she can to warm things up although she's got an uphill battle.  Expect plenty of sunshine this morning and by this afternoon... a cloudy day.  Temps will only rise a few degrees into the mid-20s with W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like a high of 12° today.  Tonight... partly clear / partly cloudy with temps around 15° and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... basically a repeat of today with mostly sunny conditions, afternoon clouds, temps in the mid-20s and NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel like 10°.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps around 15° with NW winds at 15-25mph.  Friday... sunny, temps in the mid-20s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Friday night... partly cloudy, temps around 12° and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Saturday... that Nor'easter I mentioned yesterday is still a potential threat and is now named "Gianna".   It looks like snow showers / flurries will be developing Saturday afternoon, temps in the mid-20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... snow (possibly 3") with gusty winds, temps in the upper teens, winds out of the North at 25-35mph.  As often the case with these East Coast Storms (Nor'easters), there are some key uncertainties being several days away so updates are critical which I'll be keeping a close watch.  One day at a time I guess.  For today... enjoy the sun's rays while Jack Frost remains on the island!

Sunny Tuesday

Old Winter Shot of Otten's Harbor

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like 6° with those W-NW winds at 15-20mph.  We're in the winter tundra with a frozen harbor in view and still plenty of crunchy, icy snow left everywhere.  It's clear except for a string of clouds right along the ocean's horizon making for a slightly later than posted sunrise.  Ms Sun will be crossing it any moment now.  And, thankfully we're going to have a blue sky - sunny day.  Temps will just be tapping 30° with West winds kicking up at 10-20mph feeling more like 15°.  Tonight... partly clear with a partly full moon as it's due "full" this coming Sunday, temps around 18° wind W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting making it feel like 5°.  Tomorrow... sunny start with plenty of sunshine in the morning, clouds rolling in during the afternoon, very cold with a high of 24° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph making it feel more like 10°.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, very cold, temps around 15° feeling like 1° with those NW winds at 10-20mph.  I'm going to report another potential winter storm coming.  I'm not a fan of reporting weather too far in advance but all the alerts are coming from every which way so here it is. Believe it or not,  we have a potential for another weekend winter storm with its sights on us.  Next Saturday night there's a 70% chance of snow (3-5 inches) and it will snow all throughout the night into Sunday evening when there's an 80% chance of another 3-5 inches.  All the while, it will still be freezing with temps anywhere from 17° - 28° and winds very stiff at 25-35mph +gusting.  It's considered a Nor'easter and I haven't heard it named yet.  Nor'easters are coastal storms that  always seem to hit their mark.  Also, on Sunday it's the next Full Moon and ironically named the Full "Snow" Moon.  The Full Moon has a gravitational pull on the ocean's tides which are much higher than normal tides.  While this does not make more snow fall, it can significantly worsen coastal flooding during the storm (a "storm surge") often leading to more severe coastal impacts. Talk about perfect timing!  Strap in!

Fern's Outta Here - The Bitter Cold Stays Put

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 26° in Wildwood NJ.  Windchill is 15° with those NW breezes at 10-15mph.  It's cloudy, cold and crunchy outside.  Fern gave us exactly what the forecasters were predicting.  Snowfall, a wintry mix, and ending with rain as we turned in last night.  No ice covered trees. The winds weren't quite as intense as I thought they would be and we're still with electric and heat.  Thankfully.  From my front door, the street and intersection look clean.  My sidewalk is good to go thanks to my hubby but everyone else on my street being absentee owners are still ice covered snow everywhere you look in this winter wonderland.  It'll be mostly cloudy today although sometime later this afternoon, we should begin seeing peeks of sunshine becoming mostly sunny by late afternoon into sunset.  Today's temps will be in the low-30s with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting making an icy windchill.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the teens (13°) and still blustery with NW winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps around 30° with gusty winds out of the SW at 15-20mph +gusting making it feel like -1°.  Tuesday night... clear, temps around 13° and NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting bringing along that ol' windchill.  Wednesday... sunny, temps around 25° with West winds at 15-25mph +gusting.

Fern's Arrived

Live Webcam - Otten's Harbor

Mornin'!  It's 17° in Wildwood NJ.  Feels like 5° with the E-NE winds at 20-25mph +gusting.  It's snowing sideways and from what I can hear on the windows... it's not just snow.  Fern's here and giving her all.  This windy snow will become a wintry mix and change to rain this afternoon.  Temps will thankfully get into the low-40s with E-NE winds still stiff at 25-35mph +gusting.  We could see 3-5" of snow before the transition happens.  Tonight... cloudy with periods of rain, temps in the upper 20s and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Chance of rain ... 100%.   Tomorrow... mostly cloudy start with decreasing cloudiness as the day progresses, there's a slight chance of some leftover snow showers or flurries, temps in the low-mid 30s and W-NW winds at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, still having gusty winds (NW at 20-30mph +gusting), temps in the mid-upper teens.  Tuesday... sunny, temps around 30° and West winds at 10-20mph.

Jurrasic Mini-Golf Course - 3rd & NJ Aves.

Mornin'!  It's 9° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like -2° with those North winds at 10-15mph.  It's clear as Ms Sun's up and beginning to warm things up.  She'll get us up to 23° today as clouds filter in along with those North winds at 10-20mph making it feel like 12°.  Tonight... cloudy with periods of snow later in the evening.  Temps will be around 19° with NE winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like 11° and by morning, there should be about 3" of snow on the ground.  Tomorrow... windy with snow in the morning transitioning to rain by the afternoon, temps are supposed to reach 40° with E-NE winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  3-5" of snow is expected Sunday before it turns to rain.  Tomorrow night... cloudy with occasional rain showers, temps around 30° and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... cloudy and windy with 20% chance of snow flurries, temps in the low-30s and W-NW winds at 25-35mph.  Monday night... partly clear and still windy, temps between 15-20° and W-NW winds at 20-30mph.   Oh, and by the way like us, it's currently 10° in Philly feeling like -3°.  Unlike here along the coast, they're going to have a major snowstorm.  Tonight... 1-3" expected late into the overnight and tomorrow... 8-12" expected.  Tomorrow night... snow turning to freezing rain.  Temps will be in the 20s.  Stay safe everyone!

Fern Could Be A Mostly Rain Event Along The Coast

This Morning's Webcam Shots - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  There's barely a breeze out of the NW at 2mph creating no windchill.  It's partly cloudy with those wispy clouds and Ms Sun ready to begin peeking over the horizon and through it all.  It's cold but when donning my fuzzy robe and taking out the trash, the crisp, cold, salty air felt great.  We're going to have a mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 41° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... mostly clear with some passing clouds, temps falling hard into the low-teens with N-NW winds giving us a major windchill at 15-25mph.  We're likely to see temperatures under 0.  One forecast reported -2°!  Tomorrow... the stage is almost set for "Fern".  It's looking like we'll not be following Philly's forecast as we'll have partly cloudy skies in the morning giving way to cloudy skies by the afternoon, no precipitation,  temps will be in the low-20s with North winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy with snow developing around  midnight with 3-5" expected, temps around 19° with NE winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... snowing in the morning (heavy, wet snow with 1-3" added to Saturday's accumulations), temps begin rise into the low-40s then the snowy conditions begin turning to rain during the afternoon.  It'll be very windy with E-NE winds at 20-30mph +gusting. Sunday night... occasional rain, temps in the upper 20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... cloudy and windy with a snow flurries possible, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 25-35mph.  Monday night... extremely cold, still windy, mostly clear, temps around 16° and W-NW winds at 20-30mph.

A Winter Beauty Today

Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 35° with the W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  It's clear.  Along the horizon, there's a row of clouds that will obviously keep Ms Sun from rising on time.  But, she's definitely going to rise and shine this morning!  It'll be a lovely winters' day with plentiful sunshine, temps in the upper 40s and West winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, temps in the low-30s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... a few clouds from time to time, temps in the mid-teens and N-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Saturday... a mix of sun and clouds, becoming cloudy later in the day, temps in the low-20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... the fun begins. This is what was on the weather report when I opened the latest report on winter storm "Fern":
WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.  HEAVY SNOW AND SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS LIKELY.  PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN SUNDAY IN SOUTHERN DELAWARE, NORTHEAST MARYLAND AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.  HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS.
Saturday night... this winter storm begins with snow, temps in the upper teens, NE winds at 5-10mph increasing to 15-25mph. Snow accumulations at 3-5 inches.  Sunday... potential winter storm, cloudy, snow fall, and very windy (E-NE at 25-35mph +gusting), temps in the mid-upper 30s, 3-5 inches expected.  Sunday night... snow with a wintry mix, temps in the upper 20s and North winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... light snow and very windy, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Monday night... partly cloudy with gusty winds (W-NW at 25-35mph), temps around 16°.  I'll keep you updated every morning on how Fern is expected to behave.  Continue to prepare for the worst.

Fern's Making Plans To Visit

Mornin'!  It's 19° in Wildwood NJ.  It's still dark but clear with beautiful starlit skies.  No breezes to note thus no windchill.  But, it's extremely cold outside. Thankfully, it'll be a clear, sunny, blue-sky day with temps in the low-40s and S-SE winds at 15-20mph.  Tonight... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny day with some afternoon clouds drifting in, temps in the upper 40s and West winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear with a few clouds into the overnight, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Friday night... partly cloudy, temps dropping into the teens as it'll be around 17° with N-NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel like the single digits.  As for this Nor'easter "Fern" which sounds full of herself and superior to me is still formulating and getting her s#^% together, but we all need to seriously pay attention and prepare just in case as we could see some extreme cold temperatures, very strong winds and very heavy snowfall.  Everybody (the local weather man, the weather channel, the Nat'l weather service, AccuWeather are all reporting the same thing... "wiggle room", "all components are not lined up yet",  "the players are not all on the field", "monitoring the development", "potential for a major storm" etc etc. As for our coast, we're in the line of fire for Ms Fern's trajectory and visit this weekend.  No question you should give some thought what you could be facing down the Shore with this potential storm... single digit temps (with incredible windchills), icy conditions, gusty winds, and heavy snowfall are all on the table for Saturday night and overnight, Sunday, Sunday night and Monday until mid-day.  Prepare for the worst is my suggestion.  Just in case.

A Serious "Cold-Snap" Has Checked In

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like 11° with the winds out of the NW at 15-25mph.  It's clear as Ms Sun's on the rise.  She'll be up in minutes  from now.  Speaking of "sun", it'll be another sunny day but much colder than yesterday.  Today's temps will be in the upper 20s feeling more like the low-mid teens due to those W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the low-20s (still feeling like teens) and N-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny day, a little warmer but still with gusty winds.  Expect sunshine and Southerly winds at 20-30mph +gusting but temps will be around 40° feeling more like 30°.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Thursday... sunny, temps in the upper 40s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Friday... cloudy, temps around 40° and N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this coming weekend's weather. A major, widespread winter storm (named "Fern") is coming from the West and South into parts of the Mid-Atlantic and East beginning Friday.  For us along the Southern coast of NJ, things could begin to take shape Saturday night when we could begin to feel the effects of this winter storm.  It'll be seriously cold (20° feeling like 9°) with blustery winds and snowfall up to 8".  Sunday... still very cold (in the teens) and still very windy with more snow accumulating at 3-5".  Sunday night... extremely cold (low-20s feeling like the teens) with more snow 1-3".  All toll: potentially over a foot of snow.  As all forecasts are currently saying... "potentially" and "wiggle room" on how this storm lands here, committing to our area getting a direct hit is vague but this is a widespread storm though as well as coming from the South (which are 2 strikes against us).  Considered a "Nor'easter"... they're not at all kind to us.  Preparedness is key... prepare for the worst like power outtages, icy conditions, more snow than forecasted and all that stuff you need to survive a major storm in place (batteries, chargers charged, candles, coolers, generators, etc). You know... just in case.

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling like 18° with the West winds at 8-11mph.  We've got crunchy, icy surfaces outside this morning.  With that small amount of precipitation last night, we've got white covered grasses, vehicles, shed roofs etc out there at the moment.  It's clear as Ms Sun's about to cross the horizon and warm things up.  Happy MLK day!  A national holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr's birthday and a day of service.  It'll be a nice one with plenty of sunshine, temps around 40° and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the low-20s and winds out of the W-NW at 15-25mph making it feel like the teens.  Tomorrow... another sunny day with temps much colder in the mid-20s and W-NW winds at 15-25mph making it feel 12°!  Wednesday will be sunny with temps in the low-40s.

New Moon Sunday

The Marina - Boat Ramp at 5th and New York Aves.
Mornin'!  It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  It's New Moon Sunday.  It's still dark and mild outside with thick cloud cover and barely a breeze out of the E-SE at 2-4mph.  Just this very moment, the sky has opened up and I'm feeling light droplets of rain.  Before stepping outside, I checked the temps along with the doppler as I do and according to the radar live map, we're colored with thick "green color" meaning moisture is coming down outside.  The only moisture I initially felt was the dampness in the air... no rain or wet droplets.  But now, moisture has begun to fall very lightly and my guess is, it's none of the white stuff or wintry mix with the current temperature.  As for today's forecast... morning rain will be followed by a mix of rain and snow by afternoon. Temps will hover around what they are now.  Chance of rain is 100% with snow (if we do get any) could eventually accumulate to less than an inch later in the day and early evening.  Winds will be out of the N-NE at 10-15mph.  Tonight... 80% chance of snow with temps in the mid-20s and NW winds at 15-25mph.  Snow accumulations less than an inch.  Tomorrow... sunny for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  It is a federal holiday (3rd Monday of January) as we celebrate his life.  It's designated as a national holiday for community service as we recognize his fight for racial equality and play our part by giving back and taking part in helping the community in some way.  We'll have a lovely winter day to do so with plentiful sunshine, temps around 40° and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear with some cloud cover, temps around 20° with NW winds at 10-20mph.  By the way, today's tides will be much higher and lower than normal due to the New Moon.  It'll be pulling on the ocean the same as a Full Moon (2/1/26).  The high tide times are an hour later on the bay-side / marsh-side of the island than the ocean side by the way.

A Clipper's Coming Tonight

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining under the cloud cover.  The bay side / marsh side of the island is cloudy.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 10-15mph making it feel more like 34°.  It'll be partly sunny this morning, turning partly cloudy and finally turning cloudy by this afternoon.  Temps will be in the mid-40s with SW winds at 10-20mph.  There's a 50% chance of rain today.  Tonight... 80% chance of rain and/or a wintry mix with mostly cloudy skies, temps in the upper 30s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow... a mix of rain and snow turning to all snow by the afternoon (snowfall amounting to around 1"), temps will be starting out in the upper 30s falling to freezing temps (upper 20s / low 30s), winds out of the North at 10-15mph. Tomorrow night... snow, becoming clear late into the overnight, temps in the mid-20s with NW winds at 10-15mph. Snowfall around 1".  Monday... generally a sunny day with temps in the upper 30s and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Monday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 20s and W-NW winds at 10-20mph. Good luck to all those plunging into that 40° ocean today.  It's the 20th anniversary of the Special Olympic Polar Bear Plunge on the beach at the Convention Center (Andrews Avenue) at 1:00PM today.

Sunny And Cold Today

Mornin'!  It's 24° in Wildwood NJ.  Add to that the current W-NW winds at 18-22mph and you get a windchill of 11° this morning.  Ms Sun's up and shining.  Expect abundant sunshine today with a high of 36° (feeling more like 26°) with winds out of the West at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tonight... clear, clouds overnight, temps in the low-30s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like the upper 20s.  Tomorrow... cloudy, 30% chance of rain and/or a wintry mix, temps in the low-mid 40s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  It'll feel like the mid-upper 30s (take heed all you plungers).  Tomorrow is the 20th Annual Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge at 1:00PM on the beach at the WW Convention Center and is always something to behold. It's really remarkable to me that human beings make the choice to go to the frigid beach in a bathrobe and flips flops and drop the robe and sandals and ready themselves to run into a 40° ocean on a windchill kind of day. Keeps me shaking my head for sure. Back to the weather... as for Saturday night... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 30s and much lighter winds.  Sunday... there's a piece of a Nor'easter heading our way so expect some moisture in either rain or a wintry mix.  There's a 70% chance of snow Sunday with less than an inch of snow possible, temps will be in the upper 30s with North winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 20s and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Monday... sunny, mid-30s and W-SW winds at 10-15mph.

Sunny Morning - Cloudy Afternoon and Evening

1/12/2013 - 1/14/2021
Mornin'!  It's 42° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  There are some light, feathery clouds on the west side of the island but barely a cloud along the horizon.  Winds are light out of the S-SW at 3-5mph.  It'll be a sunny start with clouds gradually filtering in and by this afternoon, become overcast and cloudy.  Temps will be in the upper 40s with S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... cloudy, with a slight chance (25%) of a rain shower, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... possibility of lingering rain showers or snow flurries, partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and gusty winds out of the W-NW at 20-30mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy and windy with temps in the low-20s and W-NW winds at 20-30mph making it feel like 13°.   Friday... sunny, temps in the upper 30s with gusty winds.  Saturday... partly clear with clouds in the mix, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... cloudy with 30% chance of snow showers, temps in the low-mid 30s and NW winds at 10-20mph.  Today will be 5 years that we lost Freddy.  In fact, his birthday was just Monday and he would have been 13 years old.  There's almost barely a day I don't remember his lively, fun spirit.  Having a digital photo frame for a number of years now, (thanks to my children) not only does it bring fun, past memories of family and friends but there's so many memorable shots of Fred displayed almost 24/7 for my viewing pleasure.  Here's some.  Freddy will always be my sweet, happy companion and seashore pup as he forever lives in my heart.
