Spring Is In The Air

Mornin'!  Happy Spring!  Even though it's now Springtime in Wildwood, we'll continue to see some challenging weather according to my experiences living here for the last 20-some years.  We'll certainly see warmer rays of sun and more birds chirping along with buds on trees and bushes and spring bulbs popping up.  But, the March winds (surrounding us and chilled by the cold ocean and marshes and bay), will keep us cooled along with the fog and April rains it'll be far from feeling that summer, beach feel.  At least for a few more weeks.  With all that said, I'm optimistic, no doubt seeing changes encompass the island with lovely weather filtering in with each passing day.  We're definitely on the upswing!  Welcome Spring!
As for the current weather and the first day of Spring... it'll be sunny, clear and bright with 38° temps feeling more like 33° due to the S-SW breezes at 4-8mph.  Expect a sunny start with clouds and winds checking in this afternoon.  It'll be partly cloudy today with South winds at 20-30mph increasing to 20-30mph +gusting by this evening.  Temps will get up into the low-50s.  Tonight... 80% chance of rain showers ending overnight, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 20-30mph decreasing to 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... sun and clouds mixed, temps in the low-mid 50s with North winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy with 25% chance of rain becoming foggy and damp in the evening, temps in the low-40s and SE winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... foggy start, partly cloudy in the afternoon with 20% chance of a rain shower, temps in the mid-50s and South winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday night... 30% chance of rain with partly to mostly cloudy skies, temps in the upper 40s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.

Ides Of March - Nasty Crapola Weather Coming

This Morning's Webcam Shots - East and West
Mornin'!  It's 41° feeling like 34° with those East winds at 15-20mph  +gusting.  Ms Sun's up and shining through some scattered clouds everywhere. It's the Ides of March known as the day Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44BC.  It's also known as a term representing the middle of the month or the first full moon of the month.  The New Moon is this coming Wednesday but no Full Moon until April 1st.
It's cold outside and feeling very wintry with 5 days to go until Spring.  Crapola weather is heading in our direction.  For today... a mix of clouds and sun followed by cloudy skies this afternoon, with a slight chance (20%) of rain.  Temps will be right near 50° with East winds at 15-25mph.  Tonight... 90% chance of rain beginning with evening showers evolving to a steady, soaking rain overnight, temps in the upper 40s and SE winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... windy with morning showers evolving to a steady, soaking rain in the afternoon, temps near 55° and winds out of the South at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tomorrow night... windy with showers and thunderstorms during the evening and overnight (75% chance). Temps will be in the low-mid 30s with S-SW winds shifting to the W-NW at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tuesday... partly sunny with clouds and gusty winds, temps in the low-40s and W-NW winds at 20-30mph.  Tuesday night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 20s and NW winds at 15-25mph. As I mentioned the New Moon is 3 days away but is already beginning to affect the tides.  The high tides are going to be much higher than normal with steady rains and winds so be aware of tidal/coastal flood during the high tide times.  Know your low-lying areas on the island.  Be mindful of where you park your vehicle.  Do your best not to drive through the flood waters which will be no doubt on the island during this upcoming stormy weather.

Friday the 13th And Winds Are Coming Back

Otten's Harbor at sunset

Mornin'!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  The birdbath's frozen and the furnace is fired up again.  Ms Sun's up and shining over the island and there's no breezes to note. But, winds are coming!  It's the calm before the blow.  We got our wintry mix yesterday afternoon as it was windy with snow, ice crystals and cold rain.  We're much calmer and colder than the last couple mornings (we were waking to upper 40° temps).  Today will be sunny becoming windy this afternoon with winds out of the South at 20-30mph +gusting.  Temps will be in the upper 40s and feel much colder.  Tonight... some clouds filter in, giving way to clear skies overnight, temps in the low-40s and SW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny and blustery, temps in the low-mid 50s and W-NW winds a 15-25mph +gusting.  Sunday... cloudy, slight chance of a shower, temps near 50° with East winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday night... March Is Showing Her True Colors Today As Winds-Are-A-Changing

A Couple Webcam Shots This Morning

Mornin'!  It's 48° in Wildwood NJ.  It's partly cloudy with haze over the moon (it's still on the pre-dawn, dark side) with winds out of the West at 5-10mph.  The status of this current weather is about to change up a bit as the March winds-are-a-coming along with 100% chance of precipitation.  Expect some morning rain (around 10AM), then a mix of rain and snow by this afternoon as temps drop.  This morning's high will reach the upper 50s believe it or not, then falling into the low-mid 30s by later this afternoon.  NW winds will check in later this morning at 20-30mph +gusting.  I guess it's time to fire up the furnace again.  Tonight... partly cloudy giving way to clear skies going into the overnight, temps will be in the mid-30s with NW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... partly cloudy start followed by a cloudy, windy day with temps in the mid-40s and S-SW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and SW winds at 20-30mph.  Saturday... partly clear with some cloud cover, temps near 50° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... partly cloudy with increasing clouds overnight, temps around 40° and NE winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... intervals of sun and clouds, mostly cloudy afternoon, temps in the low-50s and East winds at 15-25mph.  Sunday night... 80% chance of rain, temps in the upper 40s and SE winds at 15-25mph.

Hump Day

This Morning's Webcam Sunrise - North WW

Mornin'!  It's 47° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under some partial cloud cover (mostly on the West side again) with calm Southerly breezes at 6-8mph.  Humidity's 90%.  It's a lovely Winter's morning down the Shore.  We've been having some great weather as of late.  Yesterday, we hit 68° with blue, sunny skies.  I actually gave some of my gardens a little attention.  It was too nice not to.  Today will be a horse of a different color as this lovely weather moment will turn from a calm, blue sky, sunny first half of the day into partly cloudy / cloudy and 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms and rain with the possibility of gusty winds and small hail by dinner time. Temps will be in the mid-50s with South winds at 15-25mph.  Tonight... cloudy, temps in the low-50s, windy with S-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow... 90% chance of rain with strong winds. Rain will evolve from morning showers into a steady, soaking rain by the afternoon, temps in the mid-upper 50s falling to around 40° with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Strap in!  Friday... partly clear, gusty winds (Southerly at 10-20mph +gusting), temps in the upper 40s feeling much colder.  Friday night... partly cloudy,  still very windy with SW winds at 20-30mph, Temps in the low-40s feeling much colder.  Saturday... partly clear with clouds, temps around 50° and W-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Saturday night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and N-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... partly cloudy, 25% chance of rain, temps around 50°, windy with E-SE winds at 15-25mph.  Sunday night... 80% chance of rain, temps in the upper 40s and S-SE winds at 15-25mph.

Fingers Crossed For Yesterday's Weather Again

Mornin'!  It's 43° in Wildwood NJ.  There's barely a breeze out of the South at 2-3mph.  It's partly cloudy (seems more on the west side of the island) as Ms Sun rises in the east.  She'll be up any minute now.  It'll be another lovely day with a touch of the warmth of Spring.  By the way, yesterday we reached 72° with clear, blue, sunny skies! Talk about "a touch of Spring"! It was not what the forecasters were forecasting although dense fog rolled in last night dropping temps significantly.  I'm seeing that today's weather will be foggy and partly cloudy (mostly along the shoreline) with sunny skies by the afternoon, temps in the mid-upper 60s and South winds at 5-10mph.  I'm going to say that we'll have a repeat of yesterday with sunshine with temps getting in the 70s again.  I'm just putting that out there as it's my gut feeling.  Tonight... clear, temps in the upper 40s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny, temps around 60° and Southerly winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly cloudy with foggy conditions, temps in the low-mid 50s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Thursday... 80% chance of rain, a steady rain later in the day, temps near 60° dropping to the mid-40s in the afternoon, winds out of the W-NW at 15-25mph.  Thursday night... cloudy giving way to clear conditions overnight, temps in the low-30s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  It was last October that we saw 70° temperatures so yesterday was not only an unexpected surprise, but a wonderful gift of beautiful, sunny, warm, island weather that Wildwood does very well. It's days like these that being down the Shore is even more of a gift that I'm grateful for. Who knows... with some luck we just might see it all happen again today! Spring is just 10 days away.  Oh... my Chives and Spring bulbs have broken through the ground surface; a sure sign that Spring has sprung here on the island!

Another Gray One

This Morning's webcam beach shot - WW
Mornin'!  It's 44° in Wildwood NJ.  Breezes to note are out of the E-NE at 1-2mph.  I felt no breeze when stepping outside.  It's clear but hazy.  The moon has a haze or ring around it signifying its light refracting through high-altitude, thin ice crystals in the clouds often indicating moisture in the upper atmosphere (I'm thinking fog).  Ms Sun's going to have this haze in the sky too when she rises. It'll be a mostly cloudy day with some morning, hazy sunshine then fog off and on, temps in the low-50s and E-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy / foggy, temps in the low-40s and S-SW winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... foggy, becoming partly cloudy later in the day, temps in the low-mid 50s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 40s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Wednesday... foggy, temps in the mid-upper 50s and South winds at 10-20mph.  Wednesday night... 30% chance of rain showers, temps in the low-50s and S-SW winds at 10-20mph.

Mornin'!  It's the beginning of Daylight Savings Time and we're an hour ahead this morning.  It's 47° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under mostly cloud cover but Ms Sun's breaking through some of those clouds along the shore line creating a perfectly lovely and colorful seascape.  Winds are out of the SW at 8-11mph.  We're still in the "patchy fog" weather as this morning and this afternoon will have partly cloudy / partly foggy conditions, temps in the upper 50s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  There's a 70% chance of rain showers this afternoon.  Tonight... mostly cloudy, temps in the low-40s and West winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mostly cloudy skies, temps in the low-50s and winds light and variable.  Tomorrow night... foggy, temps in the low-40s and winds light and variable.  Tuesday... clouds and fog again, temps in the low-50s and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tuesday night... foggy, 43° and SW breezes at 5-10mph.

March Is In The House

This Morning's Webcam Shots

Mornin'!  March is here!  Strap in!  It's 37° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 37° as the breezes are barely there out of the North a 2-3mph.  Ms Sun's up over the horizon and trying to warm things up. The clouds won't make it easy for her as it's supposed to be a partly cloudy day with 25% chance of rain showers or even a snow shower possible this afternoon, temps will be in the mid-40s with N-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear and moonlit with cold temps (25°), and N-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...  partly cloudy kicking off the week with overcast skies in the afternoon, temps in the low-30s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy throughout the evening with 40% chance of periods of showers after midnight, temps around 30°, and East winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... rain due (80% chance), temps in the low-40s with SE winds at 5-10mph. Tuesday night... steady light rain (70% chance), temps around 40° with SW winds at 5-10mph.  Also... Tuesday is the next full moon "The Full Worm Moon" as well as a rare celestial event.  A total lunar eclipse which will be visible across the nation at different times will be happening Tuesday morning.  As for our area, if the sky is clear, we'll get 20-30 minutes before the moonset (in the West sky) at 6:31AM to see this eclipse. However, it's looking as though the sky will more than likely be cloudy.  But, you never know.  One thing is for certain and that is March brings relentless winds.  So strap in as we face the lion.  It'll be rolling out like a lamb before we know it. We turn the clocks next weekend and Spring is officially 19 days away!

Mostly Sunny Saturday

Mornin'!  It's the last of this cold, snowy, wintry month!  Onward towards Spring!  It's 32° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and shining through some morning haze.  Winds are out of the NE at 1-3mph.  We'll see some patchy fog this morning with a mix of sun and clouds today as temps rise into the upper 40s.  Winds will be light and variable. Looking pretty good for that Polar Plunge today!  Good luck everyone.  Tonight... patchy fog, partly cloudy, temps in the mid-30s with light and variable winds.  Sunday... there's a couple conflicting forecasts.  One says 30% chance of rain between 10-4 with temps in the low-mid 40s and the other says... cloudy with areas of patchy fog, temps in the low-40s and N-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... mix of sun and clouds, temps in the low-30s and NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday  night... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 20s and E-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... cloudy, 80% chance of rain, temps in the low-40s and S-SE winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday night... 70% chance of steady, light rain; continuing late into the overnight, temps in the upper 30s with SW winds at 5-10mph.  20 more days until Spring!  Oh... tonight, there's a spectacular planet parade happening about 30 minutes after sunset  (just after 6pm).  The western planets in our solar systems... Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Jupiter will all rise above the Horizon at the same time - stretching in a glowing arc from west to east.  Four of the planets... Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mercury can be seen by the naked eye.  Now all you have to do is pray for cloudless skies.  And, until next year... it's been a real (not to mention frosty and icy) challenging February.   See ya on the other side!

White Hump Day

Mornin'!  Still snow-covered and crispy out there! We had a little bit of a meltdown yesterday but not much. We might get some rain today along with 40° temps to help with that.
It's 34° in Wildwood NJ.  Winds are out of the S-SW at 10-15mph making it feel more like 27°.  It's mostly cloudy depending on which way you turn.  It seems to be cloudier on the West side of the island. I'm not too sure how much Ms Sun will shine while she rises over the horizon in only a few minutes from now.  It's beginning to brighten that's for sure. There's a 60% chance of rain and/or snow showers this morning changing to rain by the afternoon as the temps rise into the low-40s.  Winds will be out of the S-SW at 10-20mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s with SW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... cloudy start, becoming foggy later in the day, temps in the low-40s with light and variable breezes.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-mid 30s and light breezes.  Friday... sunshine, temps around 40° with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Friday night... clear skies, temps in the mid-30s and light breezes.  Saturday... partly sunny, temps in the mid-40s and SE winds at 5-10mph.  Saturday night... partly clear / partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... partly sunny, temps in the low-40s and N-NW winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday night... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 20s and N-NE winds at 10-20mph.  This coming Saturday is the next Polar Plunge aka Fallen Hero Plunge (supporting families of fallen police officers) held at 15th and the Beach in North Wildwood at 10:45AM. The Meltdown Begins

WWs Pacific Avenue Webcam Shot

Mornin'!  It's 30° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 18° with the NW winds blowing over the snowy island at 18-22mph +gusting.  By my estimates, Wildwood received all kinds of snow accumulation depending on where you measured.  Since it was snowing sideways (thanks to the hurricane force winds), some got 8" while other sections got 16".  We shoveled and moved snow around my property of upwards of 18" in some spots.  Thankfully, we got what we needed cleared away including the sidewalk, driveway and our vehicle that the City plowed in (along with the fire hydrant on the corner which got plowed in and buried in their attempts to correct what Hernando made unsuitable).
We're under partly cloudy conditions at the moment. Not sure how today's meltdown will be as we're going to have a cold, partly sunny day with a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the low-30s and W-NW winds at 15-25mph +gusting.  Speaking of meltdown... after today, it looks like we're going to have temperatures in the 40s for at least the next 5 days as some of Hernando's dumping will slowly melt away.  As for tonight... partly cloudy becoming cloudy late with 50% chance of rain showers, temps in the low-30s and S-SW winds at 15-25mph.  The rain will certainly add to the meltdown.  Tomorrow... rain showers early with sunshine later in the day, temps in meltdown mode at 45° with SW winds at 15-25mph.  Chance of rain is 60%.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and SW winds at 10-20mph.  Thursday... partly cloudy start giving way to occasional rain showers (60% chance), temps in the low-40s and NE winds at 5-10mph.  Thursday night... rain, temps in the low-30s and N-NE winds at 5-10mph.

Monday Blizzard Report

First Photo Of Hernando

Mornin'!  It's 30° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels like 28° with the blizzard conditions still bringing the heavy snow and winds.  Winds are currently out of the NW at 28-35mph +gusting.  Hernando's not messing around.  He arrived yesterday around 2pm and hasn't relented at all.  It's 6am and my house is encased much like the Overlook Hotel in the Shining.  I can't seem to find one window to have a clear view looking out.  I've tried opening the back porch door with no luck.  The front door opened enough to allow me some early morning photos.  It's quiet except for the howling winds.  We're all encased with icy snow.  It'll snow today until this afternoon (2-3pm approxiatmately) with NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  They're saying another 3" at least.  Tonight... Hernando checks out leaving behind partly cloudy skies, temps in the upper 20s and NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... partly to mostly sunny, temps in the low-mid 30s and W-NW winds at 15-25mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps around 30° and S-SW winds at 15-25mph.  Wednesday... kicking off the day with rain, becoming cloudy with temps in the mid-40s and SW winds at 15-25mph.  Chance of rain is 50%.  Rain with milder temps should give us the meltdown needed to crawl out of this winter storm.  36 days till Spring!

Hernando's Check-In Day

Blizzard - February 2010

Mornin'!   It's 40° in Wildwood NJ.  It feels more like 34° with a NE breeze at 5-10mph.  It's raining lightly... more like "spitting"out there.  We have a Blizzard (named Hernando) Warning stamped on our coast today and tomorrow into tomorrow evening which is basically a warning of a Hurricane but with snow.  A blizzard feels like an intense, disorienting assault of stinging, freezing wind with icy pellets and blinding snow reducing visibility of near zero.  It has a deafening, unrelenting roar.  Navigation is impossible, creating life-threatening conditions and a sense of isolation. This basically calm moment in time will turn to pure chaos later today into this evening. Take this warning very seriously.  Expect this early rain to change to snowfall by this afternoon, temps will be in the upper 30s with E-NE winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tonight... snow, very heavy and intense at times, gusty winds will then lead to blizzard conditions, temps around 30° with N-NW winds at 25-40mph +gusting and with it snowing and blowing all throughout the night... at least 12" of snow expected.  One local weather person even mentioned 24".  Tomorrow... another 2-4" of snow with temps in the mid-upper 30s and NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Tomorrow night... still snowing until around 7PM, NW winds at 15-20mph +gusting and at least another inch possible.  On the bright side... Tuesday will be sunny with temps in the upper 30s with NW winds at 15-20mph.  Oh... this in very important to note that this isn't a light, fluffy snow that will begin falling this afternoon.  It'll be what is referred to as "heart attack" snow.  It's heavy, wet and slushy and creates a high risk of heart attacks while shoveling it.  The intense physical exertion of lifting heavy snow can push heart rates to 97% of their maximum capacity and is even more demanding than a treadmill stress test.  It's a "perfect storm" for cardiovascular issues.  Be smart and stay safe.

Hernando's Checking In

This Morning's Webcam Shot - North WW

Mornin!  It's 38° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and doing her best to paint the dark ominous clouds. We currently have very light breezes are out of the NW at 3-5mph. The sky almost has that ... "red sky in the morning..." look.  I take that as a warning and very seriously.   So, the whole of New Jersey is under a State of Emergency according to our new Governor due to this winter storm "Hernando" which has its direct aim on our coast. There's a Blizzard Warning in effect from 1PM Sunday until Monday at 6PM.  There's talk of up to 18" of the white stuff falling on Wildwood.  Winds will be off the chart gusting as high as 30mph +gusting so the drifts will definitely be a challenge.  Blizzards don't mess around. There's no doubt that blowing snow will reduce visibility significantly, not to mention bringing down trees and wires.  Been there; done that in February 2010.  There are 5 links to weather on my blog page under "personal favs"  all of which keep updates with notices, warnings, announcements, and guidance of how to prepare and ride out this bad boy as safely as possible. Offices of Emergency Management all over this State are on "extreme" high alert right now.
For today's weather... we're going to have a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the mid-upper 40s with W-NW breezes at 5-10mph.  Tonight... 50% chance of rain late into the overnight.  Temps will be in the mid-30s with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... rain begins in the early morning, temps will be in the mid-upper 30s with E-NE winds at 25-30mph +gusting. A wintry mix begins tomorrow approximately early to late afternoon as temps drop into the low-30s.  Tomorrow night into the overnight... is when Hernando really kicks in and pummels us with 10-18" of snow (possibly more), temps will be in the low-30s with North winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Monday... still snowing into late afternoon, temps in the low-mid 30s with non-stop relentless NW winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Monday night... cloudy becoming partly cloudy, temps in the upper 20s with NW winds at 20-30mph +gusting.

Gray - Wet Friday

Mornin'!  It's 41° in Wildwood NJ.  It's cloudy (currently a very low ceiling) creating the ocean's roar to be extremely loud.  No rain coming down at the moment but there's rain all around us according to the doppler.  There's 100% chance that it'll rain this morning with temps going up a few degrees into the mid-40s.  Winds are out of the East at 10-15mph and will shift direction to the SW at 10-20mph later today.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the upper 30s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... partly sunny / partly cloudy with temps in the low-mid 40s and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... partly cloudy, temps in the low-30s and winds light and variable.  Sunday... still keeping an eye on a potential winter storm (a Nor'easter) with rain likely (95% chance), temps in the upper 30s and NE winds at 15-25mph. Sunday night... snow begins, temps around 30° with N-NE winds at 20-30mph and the possibility of 3-6 inches of the white stuff accumulating.  Monday... blustery snow showers, temps in the mid-30s and NW winds at 20-30mph.  Snow accumulations around an inch.  Monday night... cloudy with partial clearing into the overnight, temps in the upper 20s and NW winds at 15-25mph.  These still are early predictions and anything could change with this Nor'easter.  I'll keep watching that's for sure.

FOOTNOTE (10:30AM): It's been raining for over an hour and it's coming down at a good clip.  It's currently high tide on the bay/marsh side of the island and as I left the island and just returned, lots of island/street flooding going on. The tide is actually jaw-dropping along the marsh as it's currently a lake with no marsh grasses showing at all!  I saw a lot of hydro-planing by drivers.  Take note of those low-lying areas on the island and do your best to NOT drive through the flood waters.  It's salty and extremely corrosive for the undercarriage of your vehicle.  Also, I just checked this Nor'easter's progress and I'm still seeing snow beginning Sunday night, into the overnight and continuing through Monday until 3pm.  3-5" is likely.
