Looking Very Good For The Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and calm (not much in the line of breezes).  Dewpoint's 62° and humidity's 75%.  The ol' salty marsh fragrance is coming over us from the SW and it's evident immediately when stepping outside this lovely morn. It'll be a warm, sunny day down the Shore with temps tapping the 80s and breezes out of the S-SW at 6-10mph.  Tonight...mostly clear with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the S-SW at 11-15mph.  Tomorrow...warmer (mid-80s) with some clouds in the mix with a 20% chance of showers tomorrow night into Monday.  One forecast that I research and trust to give mostly accurate reports never mentioned rain at all for Sunday or Monday.  Your guess is as good as mine but overall I'm going with this weekend being a keeper!  Oh...and btw, any forecast that has breezes with "west" in it...be aware that westerly winds of any kind can bring the biting greenhead flies so pack the insect repellent in your beach bag.

TGIFriday the 13th!

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Ms Sun's up and at'em with light breezes out of the E-NE at 3-5mph.  It's lovely.  Humidity's up there...85% and the dewpoint is 70° but it's still a perfectly lovely morning down the Shore.  It'll be summery and beautiful and warm again today. Skies will be clear and vivid blue with some picturesque clouds as temps climb near 80°.  Breezes will be out of the East at 9-11mph.  Tonight...clear, temps down to low 70s and breezes out of the S-SE at 7-8mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  Sunday may begin with showers but turn into yet another lovely day!  Great weather this weekend for the North Wildwood Blues/BBQ Fest (one of my favorites).

And...it's Friday and you know what that means...
Friday Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette~
~Remember to pack water, hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, and shade (umbrella or sand chair with a canopy). If packing an umbrella be aware of wind speed as you may have to take extra steps to secure it such as sand (screw) grabber or bungee cord.  It's pretty amazing how not secure some umbrellas can be as the wind launches them directly toward you.
~Never leave trash on the beach and even better yet...pick up any that you see whether it's yours or not.   Note trash and recycle containers are situated everywhere.
~Don't forget those cigarette butts...collect and trash them.  Or just don't smoke and pollute the lovely sea air. Never stick them in the sand and leave them...that'll be tomorrow's find for the little kid digging in the sand.  Plus, cigarette filters take years to decompose and could be taken to the ocean by the tides giving sea life harmful/toxic cigarette filter tidbits to swallow. Smoking is banned on the Boardwalk in all the towns by the way.
~Remember to pack headphones for your music device or at least keep the volume down to a minimum (believe it or not no one wants to hear your music not to mention your beach neighbor might be quietly trying to listen to their own music).
~Kindly give your beach neighbors space when selecting your beach campsite. Courtesy is key. Careful not to plop only inches from others' blankets/umbrellas.
~Teach children some beach etiquette. Running (basically "kicking") and dispensing sand nearby others as well as throwing sand is a no-brainer but sometimes you'd never know it.
~Feeding the seagulls is a big no-no. Eat and snack smartly. Using hands to express emotion when holding your sandwich up or out is a magnet for swooping gulls. Dropping one potato chip thoughtlessly will create seagull havoc. Eat under your umbrella or hooded sand chair as the seagulls are much like vultures and are endlessly eyeing beachgoers eating habits.  They're relentless trying to find the right opportune moment to swoop down and pluck your lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times).  If successful, seagull havoc begins as 40 other gulls come in for a food fight of your scattered lunch.  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if they see one sticking out of your unsupervised beach bag, they will think nothing of helping themselves and remove the bag of chips from your bag as well as share their newly acquired snacks with their gull friends while you're taking a walk or a dip (seen it happen many times).
~Playing ball, frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, or kite-flying etc is a no-no at the beach.  I mean on the back side of the beach (dune side) or other designated areas is more appropriate for active beach games.  Stay away from those camped out that are simply trying to enjoy their quiet, relaxing beach day.  The beach patrol will probably stop you if playing in the wrong area anyway.
~Shake towels and blankets away from others noting the wind direction.
~Observe and follow posted beach warnings (closed beaches, no alcohol, strong rip currents, surfboard/boogie board area etc) and always pay attention to lifeguards.  If in doubt...ask the lifeguard (they're terrific people).

New Moon Thursday

Mornin'!  It's 72° in Wildwood NJ.  Thunder and lightning woke me this morning as one of those scattered thunderstorms is passing over while I blog.  It's raining with no winds happening at the moment.  This is going to pass as Ms Sun is waiting in the wings brightening things up as it'll be a mostly sunny day with temps in the upper 70s (maybe tapping the 80s again) with breezes off the ocean (E-NE at 8-13mph).  There is a 15% chance of a passing shower today (might want to keep that in mind). Tonight...mostly clear and lovely with temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the East at 5-8mph.  Tomorrow...much like today (once this thundery weather system clears on out).  The weekend's looking pretty good too (Sunday's the warm one). Hurricane Chris has headed away from the US coast too but the rips currents will still be felt today.  Take precautions while swimming in the ocean.  And, the "New" moon is today.  A New moon has the same effects and pulls on the tides same as a "Full" moon...note how high the tides get today and do your best "not" to drive through the salty, corrosive water.
High tide:7:55a.m. and 8:12p.m.
Low tide:1:42p.m.
Ocean temp:72°
Sunset:8:25p.m.

Warm Hump

Mornin'!  It's 73° in Wildwood NJ.  It's a bit of a muggy morning with 72° dewpoint and 97% humidity out there.  We're under partial cloud cover but Ms Sun will rally and be shining down warming us big time today and very soon.  Temps will get up into the low-mid 80s but will feel like a warm one with the intense humidity and sunshine.  Breezes are nothing to note at the moment but will wift (waft) in from the E-NE, then E-SE then eventually East by this evening all at 7-9mph.  Tonight...partly cloudy with temps down to the low 70s. Tomorrow...warm with a 20% chance of showers.  I can only hope as it's been pretty dry here with no rain since the end of June.  I've been on faithful watering detail as of late.  Oh...that ol' Hurricane Chris is still off the Carolina coast and creating some major wave action which is affecting us...we're seeing "moderate" rips currents so be very conscientious when stepping into that ocean!
High tide:7:00a.m.
Low tide:12:45p.m.
Ocean temp:76°
Sunset:8:20p.m.

More of the Same Loveliness

Mornin'!  It's 67° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling a little more humid (humidity's 81%). It's a beauty out there with Ms Sun pouring down and very light breezes out of the East at 2-4mph.  Oh...there's the aroma of the salty marshes too.  It all works perfectly well together.  It'll be a warm one today with plenty of sunshine and temps in the low 80s with W-SW breezes at 5-7mph.  Tonight...clear, temps in the low 70s and breezes out of the South at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow...more of the same.  This Category I hurricane "Chris" is still off the Carolina coast and is creating dangerous rip currents off our coast at least until Thursday.  The sand will be extremely hot today...remember footwear.  And the "new moon" is coming this week (Thursday)...note the high tides will begin being higher than normal.
High tide:6:23p.m.
Low tide:11:49a.m.

Sunny Monday

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and calm (breezes out of the N-NE at 3-4mph) with lots of happy seagulls laughing in my neighborhood.  The AC is still off and all the house windows are wide open.  It's a lovely, cool, autumnish kind of morning and feels nice outside as well as in the house.  It'll begin to heat up beginning today as temps tap 80° with plenty of sunshine and breezes out of the S-SE at 6-8mph.  Humidity and dewpoint are low now but will begin to rise up throughout the week.  Enjoy today as it'll be a "10".  Tonight...clear, low 70s with breezes out of the S-SW at 7-9mph.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention hurricane Chris off our southern coast creating some rough surf for the Carolinas.  No Coastal Watches or Warnings are in effect.  As far as the Jersey coast is concerned, we're looking at very rough seas and dangerous rip currents by the middle of the week depending on how Ol' Chris moves about.  It's expected to head away from the U.S.

Ocean temp:75°

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood NJ.  It's feeling a bit like that first day of school on an autumn morning out there!  It's a little breezy N-NE at 5-8mph.  Humidity's low and it's cool and refreshing.  It'll be a pleasant sunny day albeit breezy with temps in the mid-70s and breezes out of the E-NE at 15-20mph (pack the bungee cord to anchor those umbrellas).  Tonight...clear, with temps just tapping 70° and breezes out of the East at 8-10mph.  Tomorrow...sunny and warm as the winds check out with a near perfect beach day on tap!
