Perseids tonight!

Mornin'!  It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  It's another muggy and humid start to the day as Ms Sun's working her way through the morning haze.  Not much in the line of breezes but they'll ramp up later.  It'll be a hot and humid day with temps in the low 90s and breezes mostly off the land (SW) at 10-20mph.  There's that 20% chance of a passing shower and/or thunderstorm so keep one eye on the doppler.  Tonight...a mix of mostly cloud cover with some starry skies and an even greater chance (50%) of a passing shower or thunderstorm. Winds will still be out of the S-SW at 17-26mph. The weekend's still looking mostly decent as this sunny, hot weather will continue and also keep the weather unsettled due to the heat and humidity.  The doppler will tell us if and when those showers or storms are heading over our island that's for sure.  Tonight's the beginning of 2 night meteor shower event.  The Perseids meteors show up every year in August when the earth ventures through trails of debris left behind by an ancient comet.  This year the earth is having a closer encounter than usual and the result will a spectacular display of meteors (shooting stars)...rates could soar to 200 meteors per hour! The best place to view is either in the Pinelands or the back bay. Keep in mind that Light Pollution (street lights, boardwalk lights, motel lights, vehicle lights etc.) will decrease the chance of seeing them.  Oh...the sky must be crystal clear too so forget about it if the clouds join the mix.  Happy viewing!
