Sunny Sunday

Mornin'!  It's 59° in Wildwood NJ.  It's sunny and bright with some small puffy (aka cumulus) clouds in the blue skies.  Breezes are out of the N-NE at 10-15mph.  We've had some major winds the day but they've calmed down considerably.  We've had some unusual high tides too.  That full moon brought tidal flooding to the island on last night's high tide.  Especially in the back side (harbor / marsh / bay) of the island.  The streets in my neighborhood were pretty impassible but you'd never know it the way some people drove through the depths of the tide water creating wakes.  I just hope they realize that they drove through salty ocean water and their undercarriage is the thing that will suffer most.
It'll be a sunny Sunday with temps in the mid-upper 60s and SE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... some clouds will give way to mainly clear skies.  Temps will drop in the low-mid 50s along with S-SE winds shifting to the NW at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunshine with some clouds, temps in the mid-70s and West winds at 5-10mph.  High tide times today could bring more flooding on the streets.  Just be aware of where you park and leave you vehicle.  Since we're becoming the golf-cart capital of the world as of late, I know that those vehicles would never take to tidal flooding or any flooding for that matter.  If you're on the island especially when it's the full moon and the winds are wafting the way they were (extremely strong off the ocean), it's island flooding time.  You need not a drop of rain for the streets to become impassible.  And, we could very well have a very high tide again here on the back of the island this morning as this 9:05AM Ocean high tide will be a 10:00AM back bay high tide this morning.  You've been put on alert!
High Tide: 9:05AM and 9:21PM
Low Tide: 3:01PM
Ocean Temp: 62°
Sunrise: 5:34AM
Sunset: 8:21PM
Moonrise: 9:30PM
UV Index: 8 (high)
Rip Current: moderate

Wow on your pic of the high tide. Does that
mean flooded basements too? I didn't notice
any lawn chairs etc. floating away or is
everyone always prepared for tides this
high? Thanks for any info.

Hi T~
Due to the extreme onshore winds on Friday and Saturday along with the Full Moon, the island received some major beach erosion again along with extreme high tides. On the ocean side... the waves crashed over the sea wall onto the streets and on the marsh side... the harbor filled the streets. There aren't as many basements as you would think here. Most homes are built on pilings but some folk do make their ground level floors into storage, rec rms. bars, extra bedrooms etc. Without a doubt, there is water seeping in to those ground level floors. As for floating furniture... I've seen many things floating in flood waters including lawn chairs. But, not this time. On Saturday night when the waters rose our neighbors (3 different families not quite acquainted with that type of flooding) were all outside loudly panicking over the rising waters as they maneuvered vehicles in the flood waters in their pajamas. Hubby and I found it pretty amusing. Fun on Saturday night!
