Mornin'! It's 76° in Wildwood NJ. Humidity's 93% with a dewpoint of 74°. Just an fyi... the ideal humidity level is between 35 and 60%. If the humidity is 93%, that means that the air has soaked up 93% of the moisture in the air and can only soak up 7% more. It means the air is extremely heavy with moisture and very uncomfortable. Oh, and the dewpoint... when around 55° feels perfectly comfortable but higher than 65°, that oppressive heat, moisture and heavy air weighs down greatly on the body. Another fyi... when you hear "It's 85° outside, but with the high humidity, it feels like 92°, that "92" is the combination of the actual temperature plus the dewpoint aka the "Heat Index".
Back to the weather... Ms Sun's up and shining over the island. Winds are out of the S-SW at 3-5mph. It's a very muggy, humid morning out there with hardly a breeze. I was wrong on yesterday's weather as it never rained or stormed. It was a hot, sunny, humid day. Any storms out there were all around us and wanted nothing to do with us. We are after all in the "Cape May Bubble". The Term "Cape May Bubble" is often used to describe situations where predicted rain events or storms have the Cape and surrounding towns in their paths but split, change course or just dissipate leaving our area relatively unscathed while those regions surrounding us experience the full force of the predicted weather event. The "Cape's" climate and unique location (a peninsula bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay) plays a significant role in shaping our weather. Also, the Sea Breezes play another crucial role in our "Bubble" phenomenon by influencing weather patterns and storm paths. While the Cape's Bubble may not be a physical shield warding off severe weather, the unique combination of geographic location, sea breezes, and atmospheric conditions often influences our weather making it seem distinct from the rest of New Jersey. Our local geography has a significant impact on our weather. Now, that I've made that clear and covered my butt for the wrong weather yesterday, let's try it again for today and tomorrow. Today will be a mix of sun and clouds (more clouds in the afternoon). There's a 20% chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorms. Temps will be in the mid-80s with Southerly winds at 5-10mph. Tonight... 60% chance of rain including thunderstorms. Temps will drop into the mid-70s with South winds at 10-20mph. Sunday... 70% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms, temps will be in the mid-80s with South winds ramping up at 10-20mph +gusting. Sunday night... 40% chance of rain, temps in the low-70s with South winds at 5-10mph. Monday... patchy fog to kick off the week with a sunny day once the fog burns off. It'll be hazy, hot and humid with temps near 90°. There's a "Flood Watch" in effect from midnight tonight until Sunday night. Some of these predicted storms could result in rains of up to 5" creating flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas. And, Monday is the "New Moon" which mean basically, no moon to be seen. But more important it affects our tides exactly as a Full Moon would. If by chance, we do get the rains that are in this weekend's forecast and this New Moon is on tap... prepare yourself and be aware of localized street flooding. Be cognizant of where you drive and park your vehicle. The Jeeps have invaded Wildwood as The Jeep Invasion is happening this weekend as well as the renowned "NJ State BBQ Championship and Anglesea Blues Festival" is cooking up some great grub and music in North Wildwood! Have a happy and safe Weekend!
