Hot in the City

Mornin'! I can hear Billy Idol singing now. It'll be HOT in the city once again. Hazy, Hot and Humid and much like the tropics again today. It's currently 73 degrees in WW but feels much warmer due to the humidity. A nice thunderstorm shook the house around 4a.m. and lightning lit the sky. It's quieted down now as daylight greets the morning. No storm. No rains. No breeze. Just total stillness and thick oppressive humidity with the ol' back bay fragrance wafting over the island. We may see breaks in the heavy clouds throughout the day. But, there's a 90% chance they'll return. Temperature will rise near 90. High tide is 10:14a.m. and ocean temp is 78 degrees. There's not much of a breeze out there, but when one passes through it will be light and coming from the southwest.

Tropical Tuesday

Mornin'! It's hazy, hot and humid again in WW. We're feeling a bit like the tropics. It's currently 75 degrees and heading up into the high 80's again. This humidity will be bringing tropical rains, showers, sprinkles and perhaps a downpour today. Well, at least that's what I'm hearing...60% and by this evening...80%. You may even catch a rainbow or two. Tropical breezes are 10mph coming up from the south. High tide is 9:22A.M. The ocean has a Key West feel to it...79 degrees!

Dog Days of Summer (thanks Jim)

Mornin'! It's hot in WW. 70 degrees even before the sunrise. The temps will rise to 87-89 on the island today. Southwest breeze at 5mph. High tide is 8:30 this morning and ocean temperature is get this...80 degrees. That's a fact. I was in the ocean yesterday...warm; very very warm.
The dog days of summer, the sultriest time of the year, have undoubtedly arrived.
Some believe that the wicked, mid-summer heat drives dogs mad, hence the expression. But as every pet owner knows, prolonged heat waves do just the opposite. The poor pups pant listlessly in the darkest corners of our homes, hardly lifting a paw.
In fact, the expression has little to do with our canine friends. The dog days (or the dog days of summer) correspond with the rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. In the northern hemisphere, the dog days now fall from July 3 to August 11.
The star Sirius, which means “scorching,” is the brightest star. The ancients believed that Sirius contributed heat to the sun, thus making it the most blistering time of the year.
The dog days were also believed to influence people’s behavior. Feeling tired and listless? Do the dog days have you dragging your feet? Are the plants in your garden wilting? Do as the ancients did. Wait for nightfall and then shake your fist at Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'! Rain is outta here and Sun's back in full form this 73 degree, slightly breezy morning. I can hear the roosters loud and clear while the Beatles are singing "Good Morning" on my ITunes. (by the way, if you log on any KeyWest Webcam in the early morn...you hear the roosters live cockedoodle-doling to each other!) But back to our island...WW is currently 73 degrees and will be sunny and warm today. It's going to be less humid but still warm as we head back into the high 80's and may even hit 90 today. NW breeze at 8-10mph is blowing the trees. High tide is 8A.M. this morning and the ocean temp is 76 crisp degrees. Perfect beach day to me. Sounds like something to cockedoodle-do about!

Saturday with Scattered Showers

Mornin'! The sunrise is trying with all its might to show itself through some heavy cloud cover this morning...very overcast. The porch is actually brightening up a bit and I'm seeing bright skies and some sunshine through the curtains while I blog away. It's extremely humid...100% humidity! It's currently 73 degrees in WW and feels much warmer. Temps will rise to the high 80's today. Clouds with periods of sun will follow us as we're expecting rain or a chance of rain most of the day. Let's put it this way...scattered thunderstorms are predicted throughout the day, but it won't be a complete washout. With that said...the thunderstorms could produce very heavy rain if you get one. Winds are from the S-SE at 10mph. Ocean Temperature is 76 degrees and high tide is 7:40pm tonight. Pack a sweatband and umbrella today for your outdoor activity. Tomorrow: clouds gone, hot and looking like a beach day!

WW's cooking this weekend!

Mornin' and happy friday! We're cooking in more ways than one as we approach the weekend here in WW. The heat and humidity are still hanging around, but the cookers and smokers are firing up for a 3-day event at the 12th annual NJ State BBQ championship & Blues Festival beginning this afternoon. As Rachel says..."Yummo"! It's currently 73 degrees in WW as the sun climbs into the sky. It will be hazy, hot and humid once again as the thermometer reaches the upper 80's at the shore. A slight SE breeze of 5-9mph will be felt while you're munching on a rib or sipping a cold one and listening to some of the best live blues music. If you opt for the beach...high tide is this evening at 6:19p.m. and ocean temp is 76 degrees. There is a 30% chance of a shower today and even higher 80% chance tomorrow. But, don't let that stop you from stopping by for really excellent BBQ in Anglesea! The aromas will keep you close to shore.

Tropical Thursday

Mornin'! I'm listening to Al Jarreau's "Mornin'" as I type...great way to start the day. Has a spiritual feel to it. WW has a tropical feel to it this morning. The humidity is way up there but doesn't feel as intensely hot as the previous days this week. It's cloudly and hazy. It could be hard to find a cool spot on the island once the sun pays a visit. That humidity will make things feel heavy and oppressive. It's currently cloudy 75 degrees, very still with a 30% chance of rain this morning. There's a slight ocean breeze at 5-10mph and temps will go into the high 80's and may touch 90 again today. No wonder my Jasmine and Croton plants and little Lime Tree are doing so great out back. High tide is 5:27pm today and ocean temp is 75 for those of you hitting the beach later as blue skies are predicted by this afternoon. Weekend preview (my favorite weekend of the summer - The Anglesea Blues Fest!): Friday's looking ok...sunny and hot. Saturday: could be a part washout with 50% chance of rain. Sunday: looking like a beach day. I'll be blogging.
