Winter Storm and Coastal Flood Warnings

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood.  The clouds are checked in.  The winds have begun to make their presence known and the Warnings and Advisories are posted as I type.  The Media is totally hyping up this eminent storm like no tomorrow.  How's "Historic Blizzard heading to our coast" sound?  That's the one that freaks me out.  Hey look...we survived the Blizzard of February 2010 and had no power for 6 days and nights.  I'm hearing "power outtages" and it's one phrase that makes my stomach queasy.  So, here's what I know.  Today will be cloudy with light rain showers filtering in first.  Temps will be in the low-mid 40s as the winds begin to pick up offshore (E-NE) at 26-35mph.  By sometime late this afternoon...this rain event will turn to a snow event as the temperature begins to drop.  It'll be snowing and cold and extremely windy tonight.  Here's a cut and paste of one of the weather reports I find to be most accurate in my daily research.
* Hazard types...heavy snow with blowing and drifting from extreme heavy winds.
* Snow accumulations...12 to 16 inches.
* Timing...light rain will affect the morning commute. Snow will become heavy at times late this afternoon through Tuesday morning when snowfall rates of a couple of inches per hour can occur at times... then taper off during Tuesday afternoon.
* Precautionary/preparedness actions...
* A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow is expected... and very strong winds are possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible at times.
* Coastal Flood Warning in effect from 11 PM this evening to 7 am EST Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal Flood Warning...which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 7 am EST Tuesday. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
* Location...coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware... including Delaware Bay.
* At Cape May... New Jersey (oceanfront) high tide occurs at 1:24 am Tuesday... with a forecast tide level 7.5 to 8.0 feet above mean lower low water.
* Impacts...numerous roadways will flood and minor to moderate property damage is likely. The Tides and wave action will result in moderate to severe beach erosion.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
* A coastal Flood Warning indicates that moderate or major tidal flooding is imminent or occurring. * * Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.
