Storms-A-Brewing!

2015-Jonas
Mornin'!  It's 74° in Wildwood NJ.  It's dry.  It's gray and cloudy.  It's extremely windy (N-NE at 35-40mph).  Tropical Storm Hermine has its sites on our coast as it makes its way northeastward from the Carolina coast today.  It'll crawl offshore throughout the Labor Day weekend regaining strength.  Heavy rains and flooding in its path.  We should expect significant storm surge, high, intense surf, high winds and beach erosion throughout the entire weekend into Monday.  Tropical Storm warnings are in effect as far north as Sandy Hook NJ.  Rains should begin later this morning / early afternoon and continue to ramp up as we go.  Steady rains are predicted to commence this evening and go non-stop until Monday morning.  Add to that the storm surge (high ocean and back bay waves created by the storm's intense, non-stop winds) which will inundate the island.  Some of the meteorologists have mentioned Hermine packing as much punch as Jonas.  I'm signing off today and beginning preparations to hunker down.  We're moving our vehicles to high ground (for me it's City Hall's municipal parking lot in Wildwood), then removing all porch furniture, plants and whatever else we can remove and tie down.  Been there done this before and it's no joke.  What's amazing is how crowded Wildwood is at the moment.  It doesn't seem that anyone took heed on the warnings and stayed home as everywhere you look, the island is jammed packed with vehicles and people.
God help us all!
