Sunny Morning / Partly Cloudy Afternoon

Mornin'!  August is taking his bow today and bidding adieu. It's 61° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 69% with a dewpoint of 52°.  Winds are out of the N-NE at 5-10mph.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly.  The weather loveliness continues. We're going to have a sunny start, some clouds rolling in later this morning with increasing clouds this afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-mid 70s with NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps where they are now (low-60s) and NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the low-mid 70s and E-NE winds stiff at 15-25mph. Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the low-60s and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Well, this is it August... you've been relatively good to us in the weather department.  Aside from the effects of Hurricane Erin during the New Moon and all that flooding it brought, we had a nice month with mostly low humidity and good weather "beach" days.  Until next year, see ya on the other side!

Happy Labor Day Weekend

Mornin'!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 77% with a dewpoint of 60°.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly and winds are out of the W-SW at 5-7mph.  More beautiful weather as we kick off this year's Labor Day Weekend.  Although not an official start to a weekend, it is here in Wildwood.  Most weekends begin on Thursday nights here.  And, this holiday weekend is no exception.  Everyone in my neighborhood seems to have arrived as indicated by parked cars everywhere as well as all those nighttime outdoor spotlights that glow brightly everywhere in the neighborhood darkness creating light pollution like no other.  No doubt, there's much more to come before all is said and done Monday night. A mass exodus is up ahead as the Shoobies and Bennies check out after the holiday; some until next year.
As for this beautiful weather, it's going to continue through Wednesday.  Expect the weather to cooperate for those coming down the shore. We'll have plentiful sunshine today with temps around 80° and W-NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... clear, temps in the upper 50s / low 60s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... mostly sunny, temps in the mid-70s and NW winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear skies, temps around 60° with N-NW winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday... sunny, temps in the mid-70s with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Sunday  night... clear, temps in the mid-60s with light and variable breezes.  Monday... mostly sunny, temps in the low-70s with E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday night... clear, temps in the low-60s with E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tuesday and Wednesday's weather looks like it will continue with the same exact weather.  No more Friday beach tips.  You can always check on previous Fridays if looking for tips.  Speaking of "Fridays", due to the incredible water damage here last Friday by Hurricane Erin (300 miles off-shore) and her incredible push of ocean waters flooding our island, the fireworks launch site and equipment was damaged bringing Friday Night Fireworks to an early close.  There are many, many things happening this weekend all throughout the entire island... North Wildwood, Wildwood and Wildwood Crest.  Just check out the Calendar of Events on this blog page.  https://wildwoodsnj.com/
Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone!  Be safe!

New Moon Saturday

Mornin'!  It's 66° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 70% with a dewpoint of 59°.  Breezes are out of the SW and Ms Sun is up and shining brightly.  It's a beautiful seashore morning.  We're going to see abundant sunshine today, temps in the upper 70s and South winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... mostly clear, temps around 70° and South winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the upper 70s, S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... partly clear, temps in the upper 60s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... partly to mostly sunny, temps around 80° and West winds at 10-15mph.  There's still a coastal flood advisory posted until tomorrow morning at 2AM.  We could see localized, moderate flooding tonight along tidal waterways, vulnerable low-lying roads during tonight's high tide. Remember those high tide times, and don't drive through flood waters. The island is still saturated from good ol' Erin's relentless shoving of ocean waters not to mention it's the New Moon today and that invisible moon is pulling and pushing our tides exactly as if it was a full moon.  Also keep in mind that the ocean's high tide is an hour before the back of the island's (marsh/bay) back side of the island.  There's also a High Rip Current posted which is as dangerous as it can get.  If heading to the beach, honor those flags that are posted on the beaches and swim only near a lifeguard.

A Much Needed Beauty Ahead

Last Night's Tide Surge

Mornin'!  It's 62° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 73% with a dewpoint of 54°.  Winds are out of the North at 10-12mph.  And, it's sunny.  Ms Sun's up and shining brightly in the cloudless sky!  It's the first day this week that sunshine greeted the day.  Sunday was the last day we had sun shining here.  And, we're going to have abundant sunshine with a lovely day ahead as temps will be in the upper 70s, low humidity and NE winds a bit stiff at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear skies, temps in the upper 60s and South winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... another sunny day, temps in the upper 70s and South winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the low-70s and South winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... a mix of sun and clouds, temps in the upper 70s and S-SE winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday night... partly cloudy with a 25% chance of a rain shower passing through, temps in the low-70s and S-SW winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... mostly sunny, temps near 80° with West winds at 5-10mph.  It appears that next week will be on the sunny side unlike this past week.  We had some major flooding here on the island last night.  Especially during the high tide times. The back of the island... the bay/marsh side received major flooding as well. Thankfully, we moved our car to higher ground unlike some who inevitably got water seeping into their vehicles on the low-lying streets. We traversed the 4+ blocks in water almost up to our knees at times and witnessed vehicles driving around creating wakes as though there wasn't a care in the world.  We arrived on our majorly flooded street to fine our property came out mostly unscathed.  Trashcans and some planters and containers were on their sides floating around.  I have a huge chunk of wood with metal hardware still attached to it that's blocking my front gate obviously having floated right up our driveway onto our property.  The beaches remain inundated with water from the incredible storm surge of water but now seems to have receded and amazingly has soaked up most of the invasion of water. The ocean came under the boardwalk last evening which is reminiscent of the 50s and 60s when I was a kid.  North Wildwood's webcam shows the beach is back unlike last night when there was no beach to be had anywhere.  However, a lot of kelp and seaweed lines the shoreline. If you were one of those who were driving around the island in that deep water last night, you're in trouble with major salt corrosion.  I'd try and find a way to  powerwash underneath your vehicle asap. As for today, tomorrow and Sunday... you've got some nice weather ahead albeit a rough ocean with dangerous rip currents still on tap.  Stay safe!

Safety First Today

Mornin'!  It's 68° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 95% with a dewpoint of 69°.  It's raining lightly with winds out of the NE at 20-25mph +gusting.  The Advisories are still up and still in effect... "High Surf Advisory" until 8pm Friday; "High Rip Current Risk" until Friday evening; "Coastal Flood Warnings" in effect until 2AM Saturday morning. Hurricane Erin is making its presence known. It's a Category 2 Storm off the East Coast. It's unusually large and delivering dangerous conditions to our beaches even though it will stay well offshore.  It's currently 200 miles parallel to our east coast (E-SE from the North Caroling coast) and at the moment slowly tracking N-NE.
With that said, it'll be a miserable, cloudy and very windy day with occasional light rain showers mainly in the morning thanks to Erin.  Temps will be in the low70s with N-NE winds at 25-35mph +gusting.  Chance of rain is 70%.  Tonight... cloudy becoming clear late in the evening, very windy with North winds at 20-30mph+gusting.  Temps will be in the low-mid 60s.  Tomorrow... sunny, temps in the mid-upper 70s and NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the upper 60s and Southerly winds at 5-10mph.  As for this weekend... Saturday will be sunny, temps near 80° and Southern winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... sunny, temps near 80° with S-SE winds at 10-20mph.  Be aware of today's high tide times.  Know your low-lying areas on the island.  Don't drive through flood waters.  Don't enter the surf.  And, be safe out there!

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 85% with a dewpoint of 68°.  Winds are out of the E-SE at 10-15mph.  It's gray and overcast with nothing but cloud cover this morning.  We're going to have a mostly cloudy day with 30% chance of rain showers throughout most of the day as well as possible peeks of sunshine later this afternoon.  Temps will be around 80° with E-SE winds at 10-20mph. Tonight... mostly cloudy, temps around 70°, East wind at 15-25mph, 30% chance of rain late tonight into the overnight.  Tomorrow...  eyes are on the tropics as we're looking at a rough day down the shore due to hurricane Erin. The center is currently off shore less than 500 miles S-SE of Hatteras, North Carolina.  It'll continue to move N-NW toward our waters.  Expect rain showers tomorrow (40% chance), cloudy, very windy conditions (N-NE at 25-35mph +gusting), temps in the mid-upper 70s.  Thursday night... cloudy, becoming clear overnight, temps in the low-60s and North winds at 25-30mph +gusting.  Friday... sunny, temps in the upper 70s and N-NE winds at 10-20mph+ gusting.  Saturday... sunny, temps in the upper 70s with South winds at 10-20mph.  Sunday... partly to mostly cloudy, temps in the upper 70s and South winds at 10-20mph +gusting.  There are currently 3 Advisories posted for the Jersey coast and Wildwood.
#1: High Surf Advisory in effect until 6PM Friday.  Waves in the surf zone are expected to be 5-12 feet from now until tomorrow night.
#2: High Rip Current Risk through Friday afternoon. Life-threatening rip currents.  Do Not enter the ocean as these dangerous rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deep, gripping waters.
#3: Coastal Flood Warning from 5PM today until 2AM Saturday. one-two feet of inundation above ground level waters expected in low-lying areas on the shorelines and tidal waterways. Expect road closures, shoreline erosion especially Thursday night during the high tide time.  There's a New Moon Saturday which is adding to the pull of the tides. Remember the high tides times are approximately an hour difference on the ocean side of the island to the back-bay/marsh side of the island (an hour later).  Local major flooding impacts are very possible.  Take precautionary, preparedness actions now.
High Tides: 6:02AM and 6:29PM
Low Tide: 11:49AM

Stay Out Of The Water

Aerial Shot of the North End of the Island
Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87% with a dewpoint of 63°.  Winds are stiff out of the E-NE at 15-20mph +gusting.  It's raining lightly.  It's been raining lightly since yesterday.  We'll have a gray day with showers off and on throughout the day (50% chance), temps in the low-70s and East winds at 15-25mph.  Tonight... cloudy with 25% chance of rain, temps in the low-70s with those East winds at 10-20mph +gusting.  Tomorrow... same.  Showers on and off (50% chance).  Possibly peeks of sunshine in the afternoon, temps in the upper 70s; perhaps hitting 80°, E-SE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, 25% chance of rain, temps in the low 70s with E-NE winds at 15-25mph. Thursday... windy with rain showers (50% chance), temps in the mid-70s and NE winds at 25-35mph. Thursday night... cloudy and windy, temps in the low-60s and North winds at 25-35mph.  Hurricane Erin is still out in the Atlantic creating some issues.  It's far offshore (750 miles S-SE of Cape Hatteras and the outer banks of NC) and is currently a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds from 111-130mph.  It's capable of causing catastrophic damage.  As for our Jersey coast, the storm is already creating dangerous rip currents, high surf and upcoming potential coastal flooding.  Beaches were closed to swimming yesterday and I'm guessing the same for today and tomorrow.  There's a High Surf Advisory posted until Thursday night. Once again, know your low-lying areas in Wildwood if here.  Know your "high" tide times and be aware when traversing around the island. Obviously, there will be flooding in various sections of Wildwood.  Also, there's always 2 high tides in a 24 hour period.  The ocean's high tide is always one hour ahead of the back bay / marsh area high tide.  Be careful not to drive through flood (basically ocean) waters which are extremely damaging to the undercarriage of your vehicles.

Sunny Sunday

Mornin'! It's 78° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 84% with a dewpoint of 71°.  Ms Sun's up and shining with breezes out of the SW at 4-6mph.  It's a warm, lovely morning along the coast.  Expect sunshine today with some cloud cover from time to time.  Temps will be in the low-mid 80s with S-SW stiff winds at 10-20mph.  Pack a bungee for that beach umbrella.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the low-70s and W-SW winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow... very windy with showers developing in the afternoon, temps in the mid-upper 70s and NE winds at 20-30mph.  Chance of rain is 40%.  Tomorrow night... rain showers early with extreme stiff winds out of the E-NE at 20-30mph.  Temps will be in the upper 60s.  Tuesday... cloudy, 20% chance of rain, temps in the mid-70s and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tuesday night... partly cloudy, 20% chance of showers, temps in the upper 60s and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  It appears like the rest of the week into the weekend will be sunny but very windy.  Hurricane Erin (currently a category 3) is traveling north in the Atlantic and is currently located 140 miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico or 330 miles E-SE of Grand Turk, and is moving W-NW at 14mph and being fed by warm waters. It seems to currently have a very low probability of hitting our coast. However, it's being continuously monitored and what will be a certainty is how it will affect our surf and rip currents.  It will no doubt generate extreme high surf and very dangerous rip currents which will probably close our beaches for a few days this week ahead. Just to add too that the New Moon is next Saturday and since it pulls our tides just like a Full Moon, we'll inevitably see incredibly higher than normal tides along with strong storm surge and tidal flooding on the island.  Just prepare in knowing your low-lying areas on the island as well as those high tide times.
High Tide: 3:16PM
Low Tide: 8:31AM
Sunrise: 6:14AM
Sunset: 7:51PM

Friday's Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette Techniques for what it's worth: There's beach smarts and etiquette happening for sure but not as much as you'd think.  On a regular basis, some beach-goers never cease to amaze as they haven't got a clue how to make an easier, pleasant, fun, but more importantly "considerate" beach day happen.  Following these tips is one way to make it happen.
*Beach Stuff - what to pack... bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings), shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord, attachable sand-bag, umbrella screw etc. to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes, a small trash bag to collect any trash you accumulate. Oh... speaking of "bags" there are no free bags provided in grocery or convenient stores in New Jersey. Plastic bags are a big "no-no" here.
*When setting up your spot (campsite) at the beach, give those around you a little courtesy and be kind as to not to set up too close to them.  It's always amazing to watch arriving folk completely unaware of their actions as they begin setting up their umbrella, blanket and chair only inches away from those folks already settled in and believe it or not, there's no one else yet at the beach except you. It often feels like new arrivals seek out others to sit close to.  It happens more often than not and I have yet to figure out this strange phenomenon.  There's an enormous amount of empty beach space for everybody yet settling down into a spot (too) close to someone seems to be more common than not.  It's very weird.
*Know your "tide" times.  You can always ask the lifeguard as they will know.  If the tide is at its highest when you arrive, you can set up right at the water line. It takes 6 hours for the tide to go from High to Low and then turn around and begin to go from Low to High (12 hour total).
*Know your wind direction... if a "West" wind is on the forecast, you can count on the biting greenhead flies as they catch the Westerly "land" breezes and then come looking for you and are as hungry as mosquitoes.  Always remember to pack that insect repellent along with sunscreen.
*Tips for setting up your umbrella:  it's about that "wind direction" along with wind speed.  On a windy day, take those extra steps to secure your umbrella.  Umbrellas should be secured at least a foot into the beach sand.  Sand screws or sand grabbers are great for securing umbrellas and even better if you dig a hole first before twisting that screw in and then packing it with sand.  Also, a bungee cord or sand bag attached to the umbrella then to your cooler or beach cart works wonders. It's common to see umbrellas launched by the winds and more often than not into unknowing folks who are about to be impaled by an airborne, out of control umbrella. And, while the entire family is in the ocean not realizing that their umbrella is 2 blocks away and the person safely retrieving it has no idea who the umbrella belongs to.  Also, when opening your umbrella... face into the wind. For some reason, folks turn their back on the wind and open the umbrella. Thus... you now have an inside out, out of control parachute along with those gusts of wind on your hands.
*Beach Etiquette.  Wildwood has soft, powdery sand. When you walk directly next to someone who's laying on their blanket, your kicked-up sand will almost certainly be tossed all over them; especially if it's breezy.  Be conscientious of where you're walking. Teach your children these same courtesies at the beach. Explain that it's not okay to run or chase one another around someone else's blanket or chair. On a breezy day, you will be covered in a light coating of sand thanks to wind but even more so due to some of those thoughtless beach folk. Oh, the same goes for that Suntan lotion... when you use the "spray" sunscreen, be aware of where all that misty sunscreen is going (most into the breeze for others around you). Here's an idea... spray with one hand as you cup the nozzle with the other applying as you deflect the spray from your neighbors eyes and mouth.
*If shaking out towels or blankets, be conscious of that wind direction and always shake away from those sitting nearby. Duh.
*Suggestion for those with babies or toddlers...  plan your beach day with taking a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will more enjoyable with those babes in their safe little mesh, private encampment as they're able to play, eat and sleep while enjoying your day at the beach.
*Suggestion for those with babies or toddlers...  plan your beach day with taking a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will more enjoyable with those babes in their safe little mesh, private encampment as they're able to play, eat and sleep while enjoying your day at the beach.
*Phone use... take it somewhere else. Talking loudly or working on your phone for all of us to share with you really sucks.  Phone calls should be taken as far away from the people relaxing on the beach as possible.  Go to the Dunes.  Trust me, no one wants to hear your conversation; especially "on speaker".
*There is "no smoking" of any type on the beach.  There's "no smoking" on the boardwalk.  New Jersey has legalized Marijuana and you can smoke it privately on your property but not openly in public.  The only Pot dispensaries are in North Cape May and West Cape May and none in Wildwood.  Wildwood has yet to approve any selling of Pot.
*For the pooches, there are two dog parks right on the beach.  At 24th at the Beach in North Wildwood and one in Wildwood between Glenwood and Maple on the Beach.  The Glenwood Avenue dog beach has just been rated #1 dog park in the country! Dogs must always be on a leash when not in the dog parks. And, you can walk your dog on the beach when lifeguards are NOT at their posts and only then.  No dog walking on the boardwalk at all.
*If you enjoy music on the beach... remember to pack your headphones.  Believe it or not, the majority of beach folk would much rather listen to the sounds of the surf; not your choice of music blasting next to them from your Bluetooth speakers.  Sorry... but it's something that happens all the time and it sucks.
*Feeding seagulls is a no-no.  Eat and snack smartly.  Using flailing hands when expressing oneself while holding lunch is a magnet for swooping gulls.  Drop just one potato chip and you'll have seagull havoc.  Eat conscientiously under your umbrella or chair canopy.  Seagulls are vultures and are smart and endlessly eyeing beach goers eating habits.  They're relentless in trying to find the opportune moment to swoop down and pluck lunch right out of your hand or mouth (seen it happen many times). They watch and wait and know.  By the way, seagulls know "chip bags" and if you have an unsupervised beach bag with chip bags exposed, they'll think nothing of helping themselves to that bag and will share their newly acquired bag of potato chips with all the other gulls while you're in the ocean taking a dip.
*Playing ball, Frisbee, horseshoes, corn hole, kite-flying, ladder toss, spike ball, paddle ball, volley ball, Kan-jam, beach darts etc. shouldn't be played by the people sitting nearby.  Play ball and games at the back of the beach away from where everyone is sitting (it's only common sense and respectful).
*Observe all posted signs and warnings... Beach closures due to weather, rip currents or storms, surfing only on "surfing" beaches, no alcohol or pot, no dogs or pets.  If in doubt, just ask the lifeguards.
*Never leave trash on the beach.  Better yet, pick up any that you may see whether it's yours or not.  There are many, many trash and recycle containers on the beach and surrounding areas.  You might as well use them rather than let all that trash drift off and fly into the ocean for the fish to eat or get tangled in. Remember... whatever the fish eat, we eat too.  Plastic is an epidemic.  Speaking of plastic... New Jersey no longer has plastic bags at stores and shops.  It's now all about bringing your own (preferably reusable) bags when you shop to save the planet from those "fly-away" plastic ones.
*Lastly, be courteous and respectful.  Courtesy is key.  Be kind and considerate of all those enjoying this beautiful moment at the beach along with you. Teach your children how to do it. Keep the profanity at home, the music low and give everyone space.  It's a lot of fun being at the beach.  Let's enjoy together. Happy Beaching!

Cloudy or Smokey?

Mornin'!  It's 71° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87% with a 65° dewpoint. Breezes are out of the N-NW at 2mph.  Ms Sun's trying to break through as it's cloudy.  Or, maybe smokey from the Canadian wildfires.  It'll be partly cloudy and hazy today with temps around 80° and E-NE winds becoming East this afternoon at 5-10mph.  Tonight... cloudy, temps just where they are now along with East winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a rain shower, temps in the mid-upper 70s and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the low-70s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Thursday... mostly sunny, temps near 80° and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.  As of 5AM this morning, tropical storm Dexter was reported about 300 miles north of Bermuda and is packing winds as it's chugging along the Northeast.  The only impact to the East Coast will be very rough surf for the next couple days and eventually traverse to cooler water hopefully dying out.  Regardless, this is the time to think about and prepare for the hurricane season.  Get the "go-bag" ready with chargers, water, food, paperwork and necessities.  Know your evacuations routes.  Oh... the Full Moon is this coming weekend.  The tide waters will inevitably begin to swell and bloat and fill the beaches and marshes with much higher than normal tides.  Know your low-lying areas and always be aware of tidal flooding.  Don't drive through flood waters.

Happy Monday With More Lovely Weather

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 80° with a dewpoint of 57°.  Ms Sun's up and shining over the morning haze in the sky.  Breezes are out of the North at 2-4mph.  It's a beautiful morning to be down the Shore.  Except for the throngs of visitors still packing the island and seagulls squawking in the neighborhood, it's calm and quiet this morning.  Windows are still wide open allowing that sea-air to seep in. All is good!
Expect another beautiful day here with plenty of sunshine, temps around 80° and E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tonight... a few clouds, temps in the mid-60s with light and variable winds.  Tomorrow... a mix of sun and clouds in the morning, followed by cloud cover in the afternoon, temps around 80° and E-NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... cloudy, temps in the low-70s and East winds at 4-8mph.  Wednesday... considerable cloudiness, temps in the mid-upper 70s and E-NE winds at 10-20mph.

Autumn's Still In The Air

Mornin'!  It's 64° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's way down at 79% with a dewpoint of 57°.  Breezes are out of the N-NE at 6-8mph.  It's hazy with Ms Sun up over the horizon warming things up even though it still has the autumn feel to the early morning. All the windows are still wide open with a light seabreeze wafting in the house.  And, the seagulls are loud and boisterous this morning as their laughs reflect the beautiful weather this morning.  Expect a beautiful day much like yesterday with plenty of sunshine, low humidity, temps around 80° and NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tonight... a few passing clouds otherwise clear skies, temps in the mid-60s and NE winds at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow... the hits keep on giving with plenty of sunshine, temps around 80° and E-NE breezes at 5-10mph.  Tomorrow night... clear, low-70s and Southerly breezes at 5-10mph.  Tuesday... partly to mostly cloudy, temps around 80° with East winds at 5-10mph.

Preview Of Fall

Mornin'!  It's 65° in Wildwood NJ.  Humidity's 87% with a dewpoint of 60°.  Winds are out of the N-NE at 6-8mph.  It's clear as the sky is becoming lighter with  dawn fast approaching.  What's really amazing is that it feels like Autumn outside.  Not to mention that the island is packed with vacationers and weekenders and I'm sitting here with all the windows of my house wide open and I can't hear anything but distant sound of ocean waves as well as the some seagulls squawking.  Not one air-conditioner is humming anywhere!  Now that's a strange phenomenon especially in August.
It'll be a lovely day with mostly sunny conditions, temps around 80° and windy with NE winds at 10-20mph.  Tonight... clear, temps back into the mid-60s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Tomorrow... mainly sunny, temps around 80° and NE winds still stiff at 10-20mph.  Tomorrow night... mostly clear, temps around 70° and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Monday... sunny, temps around 80° and NE winds at 10-15mph. Tuesday... the same.  A really nice stretch of weather happening down the Shore.

Rip Current: High Risk: Dangerous Rip Currents today.  These currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.  Pay attention to flags posted on the beaches, swim only near a lifeguard if your beach is open.  If caught in a rip current, relax and float.  Do Not Swim against the current as you'll get nowhere fast.  When able, swim in the direction parallel with the shoreline until the current moves away. Wave for help if at all possible.  This Posted Risk remains in effect until tonight.

Windy Friday - 1st Day of August

Mornin'!  Happy August!  Welcome!  It's 69° in Wildwood NJ.  The heatwave seems to have finally broken.  Humidity's still up at 95% with a dewpoint of 67°.  Winds are very blustery out of the N-NE at 20-25mph +gusting.  It's gray.  Cloud cover all over.  No sunrise photo ops this morning.  We're about to have a blustery, much cooler day down the shore.  Expect cloud cover, 25% chance of rain, temps in the low-mid 70s with those Nor-easter (N-NE) winds at 20-30mph +gusting.  Tonight... partly cloudy, temps in the mid-upper 60s (no typo), and NE (still blustery) winds at 15-25mph. Tomorrow... mostly sunny with a few passing clouds, temps in the upper-70s / low-80s (much lower humidity),  and NE winds at 10-20mph (pack a bungee).  Tomorrow night... clear, temps in the low-70s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  Sunday... sunny, upper 70s and E-NE winds at 10-15mph.  There's a "High Rip Current Risk" in effect until tomorrow night.  This means "dangerous" rip currents along the coast.  These currents can sweep even the best of swimmers from shore into deeper, unruly, out-of-control waters.  Never swim alone and only near a lifeguard.  If caught in a rip current... float, don't swim against the current,  if able swim in the same direction as the shoreline and try and wave for help.  Personally I'd recommend NOT going into the ocean during these rips.

And those... Friday's Beach Tips and Beach Etiquette Techniques: for what it's worth as so much of my observation or my recommendations on how to have a pleasant beach day is not followed or given an ounce of thought. There's beach smarts and etiquette happening for sure but not as much as you'd think.  On a regular basis, beach-goers never cease to amaze as they haven't got a clue how to make a pleasant, fun, but more importantly, a "considerate" beach day happen.
*Beach Stuff - what to pack... bottled water, a spray bottle of water for you never know what, a hat, footwear, towel, sunblock, insect repellent, first aid kit (I include a tiny bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings), shade (umbrella, canopy of some type), a bungee cord to secure your umbrella for those windy days, something to read, sanitizing wipes, a small trash bag to collect any trash you accumulate. Oh... speaking of "bags" there are no free bags provided in grocery or convenient stores in New Jersey.
Also, a bungee cord attached to the umbrella then to your cooler or beach cart works wonders. It's not uncommon to see umbrellas launched by the winds and more often than not into unknowing folks who are about to be impaled by an airborne, out of control umbrella.
When you walk directly next to someone who's enjoying their beach visit, your kicked-up sand will almost certainly be tossed all over them; especially if it's breezy. Oh, the same goes for that Suntan lotion... when you use the "spray" sunscreen, be aware of where that spray your using is being directed by the wind and who's receiving coverage other than yourself.  Here's an idea... spray with one hand as you cup the nozzle with the other applying as you deflect the spray from your neighbors eyes and mouth.
*If shaking out towels or blankets, be conscious of that wind direction and always shake away from those sitting nearby. Duh.
*Suggestion for those with babies or toddlers...  do not plan your beach day without bringing a "pack-n-play" for them as I can assure you that your beach day will inevitably more enjoyable with those babes in their safe little mesh, private encampment as they're able to play, eat and sleep while you enjoy your day.
