The Start To Mardi Gras Season

Mornin'!  It's 39° in Wildwood NJ.  We're under clear, starlit skies with winds out of the W-NW at 10-15mph.  Happy January 6th! It's the official end of the Christmas Season.  It's also known as the Epiphany, Three Kings Day, King Cake Day, Little Christmas, Old Christmas, The Twelfth Night (12th day after Christmas Day), Carnival Season, the beginning of Mardi Gras..  Unfortunately, this date will always be shared as it now holds the remembrance of our Democracy threatened and attacked by the violent storming of the US Capitol.
I'll always think of it as the Epiphany commemorating the Three Kings beholding the child Jesus in Bethlehem. And, the official end of the Christmas season and "taking down the decorations" day. It's also King Cake prep day.  Unlike New Orleans, there's not one bakery opened in Wildwood NJ let alone finding some place in the County that  provides these delicious sweet brioche cinnamon cakes. I'll be working on my own dough a little later and hopefully turning out a yummy King cake today.  It's a type of cinnamon bread iced with confectioner sugar icing stuffed with a little plastic baby hidden inside after it's baked. Whoever gets the slice with the baby receives luck and prosperity.
Now for the weather... Expect a sunny day with more meltdown.  We've had an incredible amount of meltdown since the storm as all sidewalks and streets are now clear.  Even the beaches, dunes, lawns and yards are visible again.  Today's temps will be in the low-mid 40s with W-NW winds at 10-20mph. Even with the blustery winds today, we're going to continue with the meltdown of this now "old" snow. Tonight... clouds roll in and by late in the evening, rain and then snow showers begin as temps drop into the low 30s.  North winds will be 10-20mph.  Chance of rain/snow is 100%.  By the overnight (into Friday) the snow will take the lead and be coming down once again and coat the island with anywhere from 3-5".  Bring it!!  We've just dealt with 11+inches so this will be a drop in the bucket for us.  Tomorrow... cold and blustery as later in the morning the snow stops. It'll stay cloudy as flurries continue throughout the afternoon.  Temps will be in the low-mid 30s wtih W-NW winds at 20-30mph.  For the weekend, Saturday will be sunny and cold with a high of 30° and Sunday will be partly sunny turning to mostly cloudy with temps in the mid-upper 40s and very blustery.  I'm thinking Gumbo instead of soup for this upcoming snow event!
