Mornin'! Happy New Year's EVE! It's gonna be a quiet ending to 2010 as the weather is calm, quiet and mild this last day of the year. It's currently 35° in Wildwood with sun-a-blazing. No clouds yet, but there's a chance of some clouds entering the mix today. We'll be in the high 40's, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see 50° temps today (forecaster says we'll be flirting with the 50's) and more meltdown continuing! Winds will out of the SW at 10mph. High tide:4:18p.m.; Low tide:10:17a.m.; Ocean Temp: 38°. Tonight will be calm, clear and somewhat mild for New Years Eve as temps won't be much colder than 33-34°. See ya next year!

New Year's Eve eve
Mornin'! Not too much longer now...bye-bye 2010. It's looking like another one of those very pretty horizon mornings in WW...muted tropical colors in the darkness. It's cold though as its currently 19°. That'll all turn around as the sun's coming and temps are rising big time and heading to the low-mid 40's today! Even warmer tomorrow and warmer still on Sunday. Nothing at all like last weekend. It'll certainly give our island a meltdown for sure. Winds will be out of West at a calm 5mph. High tide:3:12pm.; Low tide:9:14a.m.; Ocean temp:35°...4 more degrees lower and you'd have Titantic ocean temp!

Hump Day!
Mornin'! It's currently 30° in Wildwood as the horizon turns various shades of coral. I love that. Not a cloud in the sky as dawn arrives. Clouds will enter the scene later today. Not total cloud cover...just some clouds will be in the mix of a pretty mild, sunny, winters day. Temps will go to the mid-upper 30's and winds will be out of the NW but much more gentle at 10-12mph. The snow will be melting for sure. Still looking at rain by Sunday, but for now and up until then...dry and mildly winter-like. High tide:1:57p.m.; Low tide:8:08a.m.; Ocean temp:34°.

Still brisk and blustery
Mornin'! Winter's going to continue roaring in with blustery, cold, conditions today. It's currently 27°/chill factor in the teens with clear skies and should be mostly sunny today with temps in the mid-upper 30's. What's ugly is the winds...those Westerlies are bringing strong gusts of up to 40mph today and snow drifting is gonna continue for sure. High tide:12:57p.m.; Low tide:6:57a.m.; Ocean temp:35°. The weekend's beginning to look much milder with "meltdown" temps coming around (forecasters are saying in the 50's). I'm thinking maybe too much thaw too quickly with a chance of rain sometime over the weekend as well...uh...time to be thinking getting the submersible pump dusted off as the key word here will be "flooding."

What do I say?
Mornin'! It's currently 25 degrees in WW. Winds are gusting up to 40mph giving us a Chill Factor of 12°. The island was plastered with a snow blizzard all day yesterday beginning at 7a.m. and winding down sometime overnight. The City is closed. The island is closed. Our Cable just came back on. The Hot water heater is still off. Our electric is on. The house is encased in snow as the front door is sealed shut by a snow drift. Thankfully no pipes are frozen. Although next door looks like they may have had a pipe break as frozen water's encased down the side of their house right at the outdoor shower location. Working for the fire department one gets to see frozen pipe breakage as a winter epidemic. So far, no plows have gone down our street. Vehicles are buried and snow drifts are past my knees. Forecasters are saying that by noon, we should begin to see peeks of sunshine. The winds will continue to be relentless though making it seem like we're continuing to have some wild weather. High tide:11:57a.m.; Low tide:6:18p.m. What else can I say?

Happy Kwanzaa!
Mornin'! Today marks the beginning of Kwanzaa. It's also "Boxing Day". But, I'm still soaking in Christmas. Hope Christmas met everyone's expectations. Mine went over. Family, good health, diamond earrings and a Kindle...can it get any better? How bout "Advisories"? They're out there today..."Weather advisory", "Winter Storm advisory", "Coastal Storm advisory" and "Coastal Flood advisory". It's currently 27° in Wildwood. It's quiet and still after receiving a light dusting of snow last night. There's a light breeze coming from the North at 8mph and a slight chill factor making it feel like 18°. The sunrise will be obscured by clouds as the beginning signs of a snowstorm is heading in our direction and light snow has just begun falling and will continue throughout the day. Forecasters prediction is 6-10 inches on the island. Winds will begin picking up and blowing at 25-35mph from the N-NW with gusts. I would imagine we'll be looking at snowdrifts by the game tonight. "Let's Go Eagles...clap, clap, clap, clap, clap!" Snow will continue until tomorrow, ending with snow showers Monday morning. High tide:10:56a.m.; Low tide:5:29p.m.; Ocean temp: 39°.

Merry Christmas!
Mornin' and Merry Christmas! Hope you were visited by Spirit of Christmas last night! It's currently 27° with clouds obscuring the "red" horizon; that's right..."red". And, we all know what "red sky in the morning" means. Temps will go up to the mid-upper 30's and those pesky NW winds...have turned into light breezes today at 5-10mph. Clouds will hang over the Wildwood all day with peeks of sun allowing the roar of the ocean to be clearly heard, but more importantly...bringing snow flurries throughout the day. We're not going to have a white Christmas as there's no accumulation predicted, but there's a "Winter Storm Watch" posted now! What did I tell you? Beginning late tonight, there's a 90% chance of a light dusting of snow. Then, tomorrow...a steady snowfall of 3-6 inches are predicted over the island throughout the day. The forecasters thought this "Snowball Express" might make a stop over the island Sunday night...but it looks like it's dropping by tomorrow morning and visiting the island all day. High tide:10:03a.m; Low tide:4:38p.m.; Ocean temp:39° Get the shovels and boots ready and have a wonderful Christmas day! Oh...by the way..."Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning."

Happy Christmas Eve!
Mornin'! It's here! The sun that is; greeting the morning of Christmas eve. Temperature is 28° and heading into the low-mid 30's. Today's a carbon copy of yesterday and Wednesday. Dry, partly sunny-cloudy (you decide) and cold. The N-NW winds are still hanging over the island at 15-25mph and still gusting. High tide:9:14a.m.; Low tide:3:05p.m.; Ocean temp:39°. The "Snowball express" is heading in our direction. Forecasters are not completely committing to where it shall pass, but they're now saying there's a 40% chance of snowfall in WW beginning Sunday evening. This "Express" could stay right beneath Delaware and the Delaware Bay and head right into the sea, but ich denke nicht so. Not sure how much, but we'll have snow cover...I'm just saying. It'll be clear tonight though for Santa's flight across the world!

Father Christmas on Christmas Eve eve
Mornin'! Happy Holidays! It's 36° in Wildwood with winds out of the NW (those pesky Northwesterlies) at 20-25mph with gusts of 30mph making it feel like 28°. Right now the skies are clear and starlit with that bright moon still hanging around. Today will have a mix of sun and clouds and almost be a repeat of yesterday as temperatures will stay in the low-mid 30's. High tide: 8:27a.m.; Low tide:3:02p.m.; Ocean temp: 37°. Looks like Christmas Eve will be a repeat of today. Christmas Day may even do the same. At this point, all forecasters are being vague on a winter storm heading in our direction for the day after Christmas. For now all charts are saying 60% chance of precipitation for late in the day Sunday. I'll be watching closely as my gut feeling is telling me Wildwood should have thermals, boots and shovels ready...I'm just saying.

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Mornin'! I'm not really dreaming of a white Christmas, but there's a 50% chance we'll get one. Well, actually the day after Christmas is the one to keep an eye on for snow; which I'll keep both eyes on. It's currently 28° in Wildwood before sunrise this very cold, clear, moonlit morning. Not much of a breeze to speak of, but those wonderful NW winds will be appearing a bit later at 15-20mph. Love those freezing, biting winds that go right through you. (A bit of Christmas sarcasm). Starting to see the waters surrounding us begin to freeze now. Temperature will rise into the mid-upper 30's and it will partly sunny or partly cloudy today. You pick. High tide:7:35a.m.; Low tide:2:18p.m. Ocean temp:40°.

It's Winter!
Mornin'! It's officially Winter...I've been waiting to blog that for some time now. Seems like it's been winter for weeks but it's just beginning today at 6:38p.m.; the shortest day of the year. I say bring it on. From this day forward...longer days and the countdown to Spring begins...90 more days! For now though...chilly in Wildwood as the Harbor's beginning to freeze. We had a glorious lunar eclipse in the middle of the night with the full moon turning orange as the it moved in front of earth's shadow. Pretty cool. Last time that occurred...1638. Wonder what the Pilgrims thought? For today's weather...pretty much the same as yesterday. It's currently 30° and will only reach the mid-30's with partly sunny skies. The NW relentless winds are hanging around at 15-25mph gusting at 35mph making it feel much colder due to the chill factor. High tide:6:58a.m.; Low tide:1:32p.m.; Ocean Temp:39°. The high tides and full moon will have a major affect on the flooding of the island today...remember not to drive through it as it's salt water! Full moon rise today: 5:11p.m.

Last Day of Autumn...more daylight!
Mornin'! We're just about there...1st day of winter that is! Enjoy this last day of Autumn as it's starting out clear, still and a balmy 26°. The horizon's looks like it's straight off an artist's pallet. It will reach the mid-upper 30's today and there's mixed reports on the weather in WW today. One forecaster is saying clouds will enter the scene along with flurries throughout the day. Another forecaster says sun and cloudless skies. So, I'm scratching my head on this one today. The way the sky's looking right now...not a cloud anywhere and at daybreak...it's clear and still. All forecasters are saying "becoming breezy" as N-NW winds at 15-25mph winds with gusts even stronger wafting over our island later today. A big, bright moon is out there (moonrise today: 4:06p.m.) and will be officially full starting tomorrow and here's some exciting news about that moon...everyone knows that "the moon on the breast of new-fallen snow gives the luster of mid-day to objects below." That is, except during a lunar eclipse. The luster will be a bit "off" on Dec. 21st, the first day of northern winter, when the full Moon passes almost dead-center through Earth's shadow. For 72 minutes of eerie totality, an amber light will play across the snows of North America, throwing landscapes into an unusual state of ruddy shadow. The eclipse begins on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21st, at 1:33 am EST (Monday, Dec. 20th, at 10:33 pm PST). Our coast being EST will have to stay up late for that one. The tides will surely be effected as well. High tide:5:50p.m.; Low tide:1:20p.m.; Ocean temp:41°.

Sunday before Christmas!
Mornin'! It's 6 days until Christmas! It's only 2 days until the Winter Solstice which means a couple things...1st day of Winter; the Shortest day of the year; the day that initiates the start of longer days; and the next Full Moon. But the focus is on today. The Coastal Nor'easter that was being closely watched and predicted to hit our shores today...is skipping us by. We'll see mostly clouds and a dusting of snow or even up to an inch if it leans in towards Wildwood's coast. But, it's looking like just a cloudy day event although some sun make peek in now and then. Temps will be in the mid 30's. Breezes will be out of the North at 20mph giving us the "raw" feeling. Good day to finish the Christmas baking! High tide: 5:56p.m.; Low tide:12:04p.m.; Ocean temp: 42°.

Saturday Mix
Mornin'! It's currently 19° in Wildwood. The sun's just about to break the horizon and welcome the day. There will be a mix of sun and clouds on this brisk winter's day. Temps will rise to the mid-upper 30's and the winds will be out of the NW at 10mph. High tide is 5:10p.m.; Low tide is 11:19a.m. and the Ocean temp is 40°. There's still a good amount of snow covering the island. It's mostly compressed and icy, but still hanging around. Hopefully, the temps today continue to do the meltdown. As for the winter Nor'easter cruising not far offshore, looks like WW will likely get bypassed as the New England States will take the brunt of this next storm. I'll be watching closely.

Sun and balmy temps
Mornin'! It's currently 25° in Wildwood this early morn. Skies look clear as the horizon's turning gold and coral colored right in front of my eyes. We'll have balmy temps as the thermometer may get up to the high 30's today with sun shining most of the day. There will be a light breeze out of the NW at 10-15mph. That sun will be melting the snow that we received yesterday. WW got over an inch receiving our first snowfall! You talk about "Christmas Spirit." It's all over the place! High tide:3:31p.m.; Low tide:9:40a.m.; Ocean temp:39°. Tomorrow: a repeat of today. Sunday: more "Christmas Spirit."

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Mornin'! The weather forecasters are saying "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" as snow is predicted today in Wildwood. I'm thinking a Clydesdale drawn sleigh on a snow covered road gliding through the woods at dusk; or better yet, a packed Wildwood Christmas in July beach celebration with Santa waving! It's currently 25 degrees with temps going into the low 30's if we even get there at all. The winds are out of the W-SW at 5-15mph. The Cape including WW will be on the northern-most fringe of a snow storm and we may see steady snowfall and up to an inch of snow today beginning this afternoon. Afterwards, it'll be gray and flurrying into the evening. High tide:3:31p.m.; Low tide:9:46a.m.; Ocean temp:39degrees. FOOTNOTE: It's 1:30p.m. and there's a snowstorm covering the island. It's snowing sideways and laying. Should be an interesting drive home. I'll say it's beginning to look alot like Christmas!

Hump Day Mix
Mornin'! 6 more days until Winter and I couldn't be more excited...not! The only thing exciting about Winter being less than a week away is the days begin to grow longer. Have you been noticing how low the sun is in the afternoon? Sunset is 4:37p.m. today! That'll start to change on the 21st. Speaking of 21, it's currently 21 balmy degrees in Wildwood this still windy, partly cloudy morn. The horizon's looking fairly clear as the clouds are not completely intruding on the colors of the sunrise. Temps probably won't get out of the 20's today. Winds will continue to rip over us from the NW at 15-25mph and that's not including gusts. More snow flurries/squalls are in store again today. Clouds will be hanging around most of the day creating that Hump Day Mix...sun, clouds, winds, flurries. WW had some major flurrying action happening all day long yesterday. It went well with the Christmas music playing in the office. High tide:2:37p.m.; Low tide:8:45a.m. Ocean temp:39° (it's starting to get near the Titantic water temp of 31°).

Getting the Winter Blast!
Mornin'! I'm having serious flashbacks this morning as the howling winds, the cold house (especially the floors), the hot water heater pilot blown out, freezing cold temps...21° - chill factor of 8° are all bringing me right there to last February. It's left a major imprint. Wildwood is noisy, dark and ominous this morning. No display of color on the horizon as huge, thick clouds are moving rather quickly across the dark sky right in the direction of the sea. Winds are roaring out of the W-NW at 20-30mph. It's bitter cold and will stay that way much of today as the temperatures may not see the 30's. Plus, there's not going to be much sun to speak of...just clouds with snow showers and/or flurries. A raw winter blast is in store for us on the island. 7 days until Winter! High tide:1:38p.m.; Low tide:7:44a.m.; Ocean temp:40°. FOOTNOTE: It's 10a.m. and it's really snowing out there...big snow squall and it's laying!

Monday's Mix
Mornin'! What a "Mix" Wildwood has in store today. It's currently 39° as morning darkness continues to cover the island. Once daybreak unfolds the mix begins. Here goes: overcast, spritz/showers, rain, possible snow flurries, periods of sun and winds. Lets talk about those winds shall we? They're heading this way from the NW and will be ushering in arctic winds/air at 30-40mph. That sounds horrible. But, it's a fact. Even though temps will stick around the high 30° mark today, they'll begin to tumble as those arctic winds will begin creating chill-factors. By tomorrow, it'll feel like the teens and forecasters have even mentioned single digits. The long underwear from the recent beach bonfire is still at my fingertips thankfully! Today's High tide:12:49p.m.; Low tide:7:01p.m.; Ocean temp: 44 degrees. 8 more days until Winter and with that...longer days begin!

Warmer than Normal
Mornin'! The weather forecaster got it right today...it's warmer than normal with unseasonable temperatures. It's currently 52 degrees in WW and will reach the upper 50's today. It'll be cloudy and gray with periods of rain all throughout the day with a possibility of sun peeking through every so often. Some areas may see 60°. Breezes will be gusty and from the south at 15-30mph. Let's just say...the ocean roar is making its presence known big time which is one of my favorite things. High tide:11:55a.m.; Low tide:6:26p.m.; Ocean temp:44°. The seasonable temps will be returning by Tuesday so enjoy this balmy reprieve.

Seasonably Mild Saturday - "Happy 50th Frank"
Mornin'! It's 27° in WW this cold, crisp, pre-dawn morning. The horizon's looking lovely with every color in the rainbow welcoming the sunrise. The weather folk are saying today will be sunny and "seasonably mild" but I'm thinking that should be "unseasonably mild." WW shouldn't be having temps in the mid-upper 50's in mid-December. Yet...today's temps will be up there; contrary to what's coming next week...that is..."seasonable temps" and they're my words. Today, breezes begin at 10mph from the SW and switch to the SE later this afternoon...we'll probably start hearing the ocean roaring right about then. Ocean temp: 43 degrees; High tide: 11:07a.m.; Low tide: 5:41p.m. Tomorrow...rain, then winter.

TGIF!
Mornin'! It's 28° in Wildwood this cloudy, dark, still, morning. The horizon's looking a bit obscured by clouds as the sky is brightening with brilliant reds. Not much of a breeze out there. A Southeast wind of 10mph will breeze over the island much of today beginning a bit later. Temperature is supposed to get into the 40's today with some sun and some clouds. It'll partly sunny or partly cloudy today. Isn't that 6 of one; half dozen of the other? It'll surely be more comfortable this weekend than it was this week beginning today. Each day the temperature will rise and by Sunday be in the mid-upper 50's. Tomorrow will be the best of them all as Sunday will be a washout. High tide:10:22a.m.; Low tide:4:57p.m.; Ocean temp: 42°. (Next week: frigid temps are coming.) 11 days until the Winter Solstice and the full moon.
Thursday, December 9, 2010
We're talking not many days left...
Mornin'! 12 days until the shortest day of the year and the 1st day of Winter. 16 days until Christmas. 22 days until 2011. 101 days until Spring. 182 days until Summer. I had to put that in there; you know...give us some hope. It's currently 28 degrees in WW. In fact today's weather forecast is almost a repeat of yesterday and the day before and the day before that. Temps will rise into the mid-30's; winds will be a bit calmer still wafting from the NW at 10-20mph and thankfully without the big gusts. Those gusts are killers especially with a 2-door. Today doesn't look too bad as it will be clear skies with sun (probably ineffective)as well as periods of cloudiness. High tide:9:38a.m.; Low tide:4:12p.m.; Ocean temp:40°. Next week's supposed to be colder than the last week. December's supposed to be the coldest of the Winter months this year. Remains to be seen. FOOTNOTE: It's 11:20a.m. and it's snowing! No mention of that from our forecasters! Come on!
